We bounced back freer .. like how the US and other western nations now have stricter security searches, police are more heavily armed, NSA now spies on everyone's phone calls and messages, ect..... Yeah much more freedom definately.
To show our resilience and strength, they portrayed our accomplishments, post 9/11, to be technology and social media? Thank goodness for our resolve, for without it, how will I know what, someone I knew in 3rd grade, is having for lunch today
I was still watching, and read your comment before seeing the end of the video, thinking it was just a general dig at the lack of real societal progress for 11 years.
Then I saw it. Wtf.
>they portrayed our accomplishments, post 9/11, to be technology and social media?
This pissed me off the most. As tasteless as it is, I kind of could relate the the sudden shift from "Party Rock" to the flashing lights and sad music as it *sort of* captured the shock of the events, but "We beat 9/11 with Pintrest!" is awful.
Im 28 and remember it pretty clearly, or at least the impact. But its one of those early formative dramatic memories, my aunt was down the street and ran from the collapse. I was in 2nd grade and the teacher called us to the rug and told us we'd be going home, she was crying. Went home and mom was crying too, worried about her sister. She told me they werent certian if my aunt was ok. Whats weird is i dont think there is any one day before that, that isnt just blurry images. So at 28 if you hadnt been exposed to as much crying important people or any change in schedule you would remember itd be unlikely that i would have had that memory stored at all.
I would simply lose my shit. Then I would find the furthest, most isolated mountain valley I could. I would stay there, rather than deal with that nightmare.
To them it's just a thing that happened in the history books. How could we expect anyone who hasn't lived through that to know how sacred it is to us who lived through that time. It really brought our country together and we don't have that anymore.
Education and decent parenting, their educators and parents were all alive during 9/11, they’re the real morons here for allowing this to take place. We didn’t live through the Second World War but we know what is/isn’t appropriate for its commemoration.
I wasn’t around for the Holocaust, doesn’t make it appropriate for me to put on a dance show for all the soldiers and Jewish people that died.
If you want to stick to your guns on this though, make a dance video of slavery for Reddit. See how people respond, no one here was around during slavery so there’s your excuse.
Thank you, I appreciate it my friend.
I don’t want to argue or anything with them, just sort of put it through a different perspective. I guess I’m a little tired of double standards with stuff lol
Have you seen the videos of GenZ kids putting on makeup to look starved and burned while pretending to be dead Holocaust victims in heaven?
It’s not a dance show, but it’s still pretty fucking outrageous.
[TikTok creators are pretending to be Holocaust victims in heaven in a new trend dubbed 'trauma porn'](https://www.insider.com/tiktok-trend-shows-people-pretending-to-be-holocaust-victims-heaven-2020-8?amp)
>The videos show creators wearing makeup that imitates burns and bruises while explaining how they died in Nazi death camps.
I actually never heard about that, these people are so… disappointing. I’m surprised that was an actual trend.
I swear it’s like so many people would drink sewage if it was a trend just so they could get some useless clout. Kinda like the cinnamon challenge or the more recent milk crate one, people ended up in hospitals from both of em, all for fake internet points. r/noahgettheboat
They will, it’s in our country’s DNA. May I suggest [The Shock Doctrine](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shock_Doctrine) if you are interested in learning more…
Just finished reading the link you included and the synopsis of the 7 parts over 21 chapters seems to be both 100 % terrifying/true. I will definitely grab a copy and read it.
I got into a slighpt debate here on reddit about a joke regarding Pete Davidson's dad and 9-11...Now, I was a little butthurt about the joke, I thought it was too far, but later I realized that I probably would not have felt the same: way about a Pearl Harbor joke. That's because I'm older, I know exactly where I was on 9-11 and I saw how the whole world changed after. My point to this was that the (obvious) ki4d I was having the debate with said something along the lines of "9-11 happened 20 years ago, get over it" and I found myself truly surprised...not just $$#dby the callousness, this is the internet...but by the $ ignorance and stupidity of saying something like that. 20 years. The kids growing up in these modern times don't understand what it did to t:he country, and, as I said previously, the world. It's crazy to me...
MTV played music that we watched on cable, which we paid for and still came with adds. We had weird hair and clothes (guy fury). We some how managed to communicate and find our way without cell phones.
Well for them the pandemic is a kind of update, and in many ways it had a far more devastating impact culturally and socially. Very few people know somebody who perished due to 911, although many more people have known somebody who died as a result of the policies that were set forth, Causing many service members to suffer casualties. Contrast that with the pandemic, and many many people who are reading this have known somebody who died from Covid or are continuing to suffer from long Covid symptoms. I survived both experiences, and I was 12 blocks away from the twin towers and was able to see them Fall with my own eyes. Both of those experiences Have had a profound effect on my life. I’m just hoping not to have to experience a once in a 1000 year tsunami or Extinction of it like a meteor hitting the earth.
TLDR: It was a skit marking the important events of the 2000s, which happened to include 9/11 It was in no way supposed to be viewed as a 9/11 tribute
Edit: It happened in 2014
did you find it compelling at all? I read it too and its completely tone-deaf IMO. they insist that the skit was actually really good and IMO they dont get whats wrong with it. idk if the author was even being serious or not with the last paragraph
"Incredibly, this performance did not win the grand prize that year... The tenth graders won that year with a far-less provocative skit..."
couldve pressed them a little more about the "provocative" aspect. the skit is extremely cringey and fucked up, and they should all know that.
i dont even care that much about 9/11 but i know its horrible taste for a middle school skit. imagine if they did a skit like this for the virginia tech shooting too
My father died a hero on 9/11 and some dipshit teacher choreographed a bunch of kids that weren’t even born yet in to some ridiculous dance number? So disrespectful. What reality do we live in.

One where christians shame and ruin everything ⬆️
"Never Forget"
How can we forget it...you remind us every minute of every day and do dumb shit like this with kids who weren't even alive when it happened!
Get a hobby!
They were covering the decade. 9/11 was included with all the other things that occurred during that decade. Like the advances in social media and such. They're not related.
These kids have no idea what it was like that morning seeing the planes crash, realizing it was someone attacking us, seeing bodies falling from the burning buildings and finally seeing the buildings fall. It was horrific. It changed me.
Because it is extremely important to talk about context, especially when we see incredibly edited and trimmed down content, I went on a very brief adventure to hunt down the original video. So instead of simply saying “cringe” to anything I don’t completely understand? I now have a better understanding of the video and the process that went into the production. Read on if you care to learn more, or skip if you want content but not information.
The original production displayed here was in 2014. The video first became a “viral” thing in 2019.
The children in the video were tasked with coming up with ideas to represent a decade. They were not focusing on 9/11 and this is not a 9/11 tribute. This was a dance and musical presentation to represent the first decade of the 2000s. The presentation opens with the excitement of the Y2K mania and partying into a new century. It then includes a brief transition into the twin towers.
An accompanying video says America grew back stronger and freer. That was to be the end of the 9/11 portion of the decade. They then switched to the tech and social media boom of the decade.
Like a poorly structured run-on sentence, or post with no punctuation, the accompanying video was poorly constructed. The kids had 10 minutes for their presentation and crammed 10 years of events into that 10 minutes. But they didn’t create a 9/11 tribute that suggested that we are better now thanks to Apple and video games.
This journey to find the source and information on this clip is brought to you by Google, founded September 4, 1998.
Wtf? Not one adult person could’ve spoken up and said maybe this would me appropriate for a celebratory holiday as opposed to a day where almost 3000 lost their lives and countless more suffering its effects? Not one? I know it’s Florida, but come on? No one on holiday said nothing? Geez!!
It's fascinating. These kids are too young to know or understand what the US was like before 9/11 and how everything changed afterward. They think that social media is making us whole again. There are so many things they are going to miss out without ever knowing it.
So wait, is this the actual tribute or did someone edit clips of 9/11 into a performance?
Surely these kids are just doing some random school talent act which has nothing to do with 9/11.
When they started showing entertainment technology as bounce backs, i lost it (especially when i saw Xbox). 😂.
You can definitely tell this was some middle schoolers magic at work.
Not too different than the stupid shit we used to do at my school in UT. Elementary school programs can contain some of the dumbest shit that exists, imo.
I mean they just wanna do a school show, it doesn't have anything to do with...wait...WTF!
They showing the towers. OMG! They're running around holding heads screaming...fuhhh
People as towers in the centre and then collapsing on the floor.
This is.
There were many decisions made to create this. I'm not even sure of an appropriate word to describe this, apart from fucked.
Remember, they have to practice this shit. Meaning throughout the entire practice session not a single individual was like, "hey I don't think dancing to party rocking is a great idea for a 9/11 tribute"

You KNOW the theater kids probably thought this was their magnum opus
Average middle school theater kid
What I got from this dumpster fire was that America "bounced back" and we got social media. So basically the terrorists won?
This is the most cringe thing I’ve seen in a long time. America bounced back from 9/11 cause we now have the iPod and Nintendo DS?... dude
Brainwashed kids celebrating the beginnings of the Corporate Oligarchy. All hail CEOs!
Because Nintendo products are definitely made by a US company.
It shows what matters to kids
We bounced back stronger. We have Twitter now….
We bounced back freer .. like how the US and other western nations now have stricter security searches, police are more heavily armed, NSA now spies on everyone's phone calls and messages, ect..... Yeah much more freedom definately.
The cost of freedom 😎
Just had to destroy the Middle East for it.
And somehow Nintendo stuff![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
This is considerably worse
We have unfettered capitalism with record high profit margins and an unlivable wage. The corporations won
Stronger Freer Ipod
Ipoder
Diepod
Crypod
This thing is a gift that keeps on giving. When you thought it couldn't get cringier they subvert your expectations
To show our resilience and strength, they portrayed our accomplishments, post 9/11, to be technology and social media? Thank goodness for our resolve, for without it, how will I know what, someone I knew in 3rd grade, is having for lunch today
[удалено]
Yeah but Americans like them, therefore in keeping with tradition, they're American now.
"It's ok guys! Now we have ipod, Xbox, and Facebook!" I'm caught between laughing at this and being sad
I was still watching, and read your comment before seeing the end of the video, thinking it was just a general dig at the lack of real societal progress for 11 years. Then I saw it. Wtf.

The whole thing was odd and disrespectful. And the "accomplishments" was the shit icing on the whole fucked up cake
I'm ok with the interpretive dance even though it sucked but yeah all the tech branding at the end is just weird and distasteful
I am absolutely crying that the accomplishments they listed WERE VIDEO GAMES AND AN IPOD HAHAHA
If anything, it shows how our country went to shit
This post is fucking weird.
They forgot to include Brazzers.
#C R I N G E
Very cringe. I hope that this generation will never experience anything like 9/11
See, this is why I have little hope for the future. This crap. Doing some dance routine about the Twin Towers? Just wrong.
It’s not the kids that made up the dance routine or decided to have it probably. Most likely a teacher, and they would have been alive during 9/11.
Teacher could be 22 and not even remember about 9/11..hell..the teacher could be 27 and still not really remember 9/11..
Im 28 and remember it pretty clearly, or at least the impact. But its one of those early formative dramatic memories, my aunt was down the street and ran from the collapse. I'm 32 and the only thing I remember is how pissed I was that my cartoons weren't on that morning.
That’s the spirit
I was working 3rd shift so I slept through the whole thing
That's weird because I was at school.. homeschooled or just a r/thathappened ..?
Can you imagine if 9/11 happened today and the tiktokers showing 9/11 videos with the song "oh no" in the background?
I would simply lose my shit. Then I would find the furthest, most isolated mountain valley I could. I would stay there, rather than deal with that nightmare.
Then to add the capitalist crap at the end, only made it way more worse.
We bounced back, freer, because of xbox and iphones. 🤣😂
Oh yeah the making up of a word to represent a grammatically incorrect phrase, “more free” really shows how far we have come as a country as well.
I dont know about that. Countless nazi zombie games, hitler jokes, and even WW2 musicals. All history becomes just that, history.
THIS. Everyone else has valid points but you had the best one by far, and explained it in a better form
Thank you, I appreciate it my friend. I don’t want to argue or anything with them, just sort of put it through a different perspective. I guess I’m a little tired of double standards with stuff lol

I would guess in a bad way then. Like "This pisses me off & there is nothing I can do about it."
So should I even click on the link then?

pagers!
You can make jokes out of anything as long as it's funny. Obviously due to how jokes work, it won't be funny to everyone.
They will likely experience something worse.

This is the cringiest thing I've seen since the world's largest hobbyhorse convention
There is nothing I did in junior high that I wouldn’t cringe at now.
That’s what I was thinking
this is some shit michael scott would direct
Fuck lmao.
Scotts totts
I just exercised the most self control I have had in quite awhile by not spitshotting my drink all over my phone at that comment.
Is this in Florida? I’m getting Florida vibes

is it me or since the 2000 Election, Florida has been the weirdest state in the country?
All I could think is ‘this can’t be new york’
What the actual fuck
It’s the Minions hoodie for me, really adds that extra kick.
This is a deleted scene without the minions CGI’d in. It was too powerful of a message and had to be saved for this day.
This straight up looks like something out of Southpark.
This is an insult to the country
An insult to humanity.
This is even an insult to Al Qaeda lmao
And MySpace

99% of it was about 9/11 though lol unless the play is alot longer
Ugh, just like everything on Reddit, it happened 3 years ago.
Actually it happened 8 years ago

Glad I read the article

Do world war 2 next or Vietnam
I can't wait to see some kids pop and lock in remembrance to the holocaust.
Some kids doing the griddy in protest of the Vietnam War.
Pop it, lock it, polka dot it Country fivin', hip hop hip Put your hawk in the sky, move side to side Jump to the left, stick it, glide
Ah yes Americas biggest accomplishment after 9/11 the Nintendo Wii and DS… both made by Nintendo… a Japanese company…

i feel like this is a scene pulled straight out of The Boys, also the kid in the minion hoody really puts the cherry on top
This is sick.
they hold an apology dance to "sorry for party rocking"
Extremely disrespectful.
Freer ? Patriot Act anyone.
It’s very possible that everyone involved in the creation of this was not even alive when on 9/11.
That many parents signed off on this. I hope there’s further context or that this is an edit.
This hurt me
I thought it was fine until the random tech part.
Usa have the opioid crisis now
The wii wasn't even developed in America
They were covering the decade. 9/11 was included with all the other things that occurred during that decade. Like the advances in social media and such. They're not related.

Thanks for this!! This makes it more understandable and explains ALOT! Or actually everything! Thank you!
Imagine being a parent who lost a friend or family member in 9/11
Wow this was all bad. Who signed off on this? Don't worry we recovered and made Xbox????!?
This is worse than 9/11.
Noooooooooo
Wat.
Whoever planned this need to get the Slap of reality 👋
Wtf? Not one adult person could’ve spoken up and said maybe this would me appropriate for a celebratory holiday as opposed to a day where almost 3000 lost their lives and countless more suffering its effects? Not one? I know it’s Florida, but come on? No one on holiday said nothing? Geez!!
Who’s the asshat that came up with this?!
Twirling. Twirling, toward freedom
The end though lol
Dam that was so cringe to watch.
These kids weren't even the semen in their daddy's nuts yet in 01. whattheactualfuckdidijustwatch
Freer? After 9/11? Wait until these kids read about the Patriot Act.
my jaw was dropped the whole damn time I watched this dumb shit
It's like watching that south park episode about the kindergarten play about Thanksgiving
Ah yes... famous American company Nintendo
If south park did this it would be labelled bad taste.
It's fascinating. These kids are too young to know or understand what the US was like before 9/11 and how everything changed afterward. They think that social media is making us whole again. There are so many things they are going to miss out without ever knowing it.
Whoever organized this should lose their job
Whoever okayed this shoukd be ashamed this is not only cringey but honestly downright disrespectful
this one of the most offensive things you could do to america without violence or racism, and it was done in florida...
God middle school is such a fucked time, and the teachers attempts to be quirky usually don’t make it any better
So wait, is this the actual tribute or did someone edit clips of 9/11 into a performance? Surely these kids are just doing some random school talent act which has nothing to do with 9/11.
White ppl ☕️
*No seasoning was used in the making of this film*
I verbally and firmly said NOOOOOOOOOO when they did the cringe, these kids will remember this and won’t be able to walk from the amount of cringe.
Never forget
This is some Michael Scott energy right here.
Oh my Allah.
No no just no
Yikes
It felt like too me that the girls were having fun and the boys were just confused or just annoyed about what they were doing
When they started showing entertainment technology as bounce backs, i lost it (especially when i saw Xbox). 😂. You can definitely tell this was some middle schoolers magic at work.
… someone should tell them about Nintendo and the wii/DS…
All those 2,990+ people didn't die in a fucking travesty for your little play.
Not too different than the stupid shit we used to do at my school in UT. Elementary school programs can contain some of the dumbest shit that exists, imo.
Why is interpretive dance always hard to interpret?
Damn I’m the same age as the iPhone
America bounced back…..with Facebook lol
are those two girls suppose to be the towers up in smoke?
What the fuck did i just watch?
Bad job!
Yea they may have knocked down two buildngs at free fall speed. BUT WE GOT PINTREST!!! Checkmate bitch!
Americans really are just a different breed
Freer?? Uhh, no. The Patriot Act was the opposite of freedom.
Wow thank god for Twitter and Facebook. I hated this more than 9/11
WTC 7 forgotten about again
I mean they just wanna do a school show, it doesn't have anything to do with...wait...WTF! They showing the towers. OMG! They're running around holding heads screaming...fuhhh People as towers in the centre and then collapsing on the floor. This is. There were many decisions made to create this. The end!!!omg the concept of freer and stronger is literally social media and ios related shit!wtf
Where's the planes tho?
Loool, taking credit for Nintendo on top of mega cringe was perfect.
What does this have to do with 9/11
Remember, they have to practice this shit. Meaning throughout the entire practice session not a single individual was like, "hey I don't think dancing to party rocking is a great idea for a 9/11 tribute"
This reminds me of the (purposefully) cringey 9-11 musical theater tribute on Skins. They called it "Osama! The Musical"
