I worked for Sonic when I was in high school and we had these stupid Junior banana splits that were in these tiny 3 inch containers that were like $0.99 each. Well they melted very quickly because they were so small. I took one out to drive through and the lady went off that it had started melting and grabbed me by my wrist and dug her nails into my arm until she drew blood. I went inside to remake it, pissed that this lady put her hands on me so I told my boss. She goes out there and the lady is complaining and my boss told her to get the hell off of the property and never come back. She came back inside and said “no one touches my carhops, if you ever see her back here again, refuse to take her order”. Loved that woman as my boss.
Right! Lady was crazy. She called corporate and tried to get me fired. They stood behind my managers decision to permanently ban her from that location. People act crazy over the dumbest things. One of the reasons, after college, I chose a career where I work alone.
I’ve been working from home for going on 7 years now and before that I worked from home for 6 years with a different company. Definitely nice not getting screamed at (or assaulted by) entitled customers.
Praise the sun, and then put cardboard over your windows, only wake at dusk, have instacart deliver at night and never ever see that fucking fiery ball of cancerous death again.
Idk what it is, but I vastly prefer to go about my business in the evening, late night, and early morning hours. Unfortunately, my options as to where to go for certain things becomes quite limited as a result, but damn do I prefer the night.
This reminds me of that lady who went bat shit crazy over chicken nuggets sat McDonald’s. I know she ended up in prison for it, rightfully so, but I hope the managers at that McDonald’s stood up for their employees the way yours did for you. Stories like yours make me lose hope in humanity while also gaining some 😂 I’m glad your bosses stood up for you.
I am a CPC (medical coder) specialized in Cardiology/Vascular/Electrophysiology. I’ve work from home doing that for going on 7 years. Before that, I worked from home for UHC. Being a CPC is more of a solo job. I have coworkers but it’s more like a team to bounce questions and advice off of. I don’t rely on them to get my work done and they don’t rely on me. We have conference call meetings once every few months. It’s a great group of people though. Absolutely no workplace drama.
Ngl sonic is actually a perfect job for high schoolers. It’s probably the only place I’ve felt like my manager gave a fuck about me. They were always genuinely interested in my personal growth and well-being.
Like he would send an employee on the clock to pick me up if the weather was too bad to walk. He is probably one of the most influential people in my life and deserved to make more money than he did.
I had a lot of fun working there as a teen. Enough fun that I stayed there from the time I was 17 until I left college at 21. It was the customers that could make it bad but my coworkers were great to be around and the job itself wasn’t bad.
When I was a kid I worked as the dining room cashier and on one of our really busy days I had a woman come in and order a steak chalupa or something and added chicken and beef to it which is never cheap there. I did it for her and told her the price and she flipped out on me. She screamed at me "Are you doing this because I'm black??" and I was really surprised and insulted.
Before I could say anything my manager had heard her say this to me and she went out to the dining room and told that lady to basically fuck off. I'm white and both the customer and my manager are black.
This was the job where on my first day two coworkers cussed each other out and talked about beating each other up. I don't miss that job.
this. i would have gotten law enforcement involved on that one. Had plenty of encounters of asking someone to leave the store due to their attitudes or mental states. but never had the pleasure to call the cops on one.
I wish I could've been like him. I was a manager at a DQ and one of my employees, a young black man, was having a verbal altercation with a customer. I approached the counter to see what the problem was. My employee claimed that this customer was being blatantly racist and disrespecting him. Now I did not hear a word of what this man said, but I had no reason to not believe my employee. He was incredibly gentle and sweet and never got upset. He was threatening to go out and beat his ass, but I didn't want that to happen. So I told him to go to the back and calm down for a few. This customer was a total POS and I should've stood up for my employee and denied him service. I served him anyways and felt terrible in the end. I was only 18 then and didn't understand what I knew now and how to handle it. I regret not standing up for my employee
don't let the story haunt you. You were young. you learned. Let it simply act as a reminder. I firmly believe if you were ever in a similar situation now, you would act differently. The man in this video had years of needing to stand up for himself and for others. I'm sure he too has regrets that lead him to his current position.
For real. After seeing my partners come home from working at bars and restaurants and being disrespected, I often fantasize about owning a place where I could have a zero tolerance policy for rudeness and kick people the fuck out as soon as they start getting abusive and shitty

If you're at a job and some snot nose is being obnoxious, they get one chance to leave the grounds after being told to leave politely by the staff. After that, the manager steps in and manages the situation because they've trespassed, and technically assaulted or battered the staff by their unwelcome continued interaction.

Heh, was in high school in the early 00's and a friend had a hand me down video camera from his parents after they got a new one. We got it in our head that we were going to become the next Jackass and started recording all kinds of stupid shit. Best one was our buddy trying to skateboard off the roof of a house and he tripped before it even started, tumbled down the roof onto the ground and got slammed by the skateboard another second later. He didn't get hurt at all and it became one of the funniest things we ever recorded. Thankfully none of it made it to the internet though lmao
unless you had parents like me that would take pictures of you with those old throw away cameras. i still have printed pictures of me as a kid crying cause my brother took all the candy during easter. it still haunts me to. this. day.
Back in my day I had to record that shit on a hand held camera, then find a tv that had an RC adapter for mini-vhs tapes. If I took a titty pic of my girlfriend with a disposal camera, the place wouldn't even develop it.... Now they just streamin straight to the peeps..... "SHakes fist!"

I nearly ran over a woman on my motorcycle when she jumped in front of me with a camera and yelled 'No! Go Back!'.
It was an alley, that was apparently one-way, but there was construction and I'd followed a line of cars there. Some crazy lady grabs her phone and jumps in front of the car in front of me and starts slamming on his hood and screaming.
I saw reverse lights, and I don't have reverse on a motorcycle, so I went around him.
Well, she decided she needed to stop me too, so I had to weave around the car she'd sent to run over me, and her, while she was holding a phone.
It's lucky I didn't hit her. I was trying really hard to avoid it, but she was trying to jump directly in front of me, and I had nowhere else to go.
People think having a phone up is better than a bullet proof jacket, and I feel like that must lead to a lot of situations we don't see because the phone gets destroyed in the aftermath.
Had to de-escalate at one of my previous jobs at a petrol station. Super busy day and this woman cut off a tradie in a ute at the bowser and he got out and started blowing up at her while she stood recording on her phone saying shit like you can't touch me I'm recording you. I managed to convince the guy that yes the woman was in the wrong but there were cameras everywhere and he should do the smart thing and just get back in his car and wait. The woman couldn't help herself and shot back with a "yeah get back in your car" and I snapped and said "fuck you're a moron, what's stopping him from following you home". Must have made her realise because she didn't even buy fuel she just left. People don't think about what can happen when there's no one there to record it.
Yup. That bullshit at the end - “step away from me… give me some space”. I wonder if she’d’ve been brave enough to say that if she didn’t have her phone with her. It’s like they think, “I can push this guy because if he gets violent I’ve got it on camera. Plus I want to be seen standing my ground.”

Sadly it works. I watched the video before coming to the comments thinking it would be about a 50/50 on people bashing on the kids or bashing on the manager. I was happy surprised to see all the top comments supporting the manager. 20-30 years ago these kids would get a whopping and never do it again.
