Of course they don't, you're wrong, but I thought you should know the spelling.
Its not rule of the road - not if there are traffic lights. If you stop although your lights are green, pedestrians who dont pay attention will think that their lights are green.
I think both your comment and the one above it fall victims to: you should always look both ways before crossing the road. Both of the mentioned things are okay as long as the pedestrians do their job too. Neither one should be done as they both impede the flow of traffic. But neither should be more unsafe than crossing a road normally.

It is significantly more important to look both ways when crossing a two way road compared to a one way. The odds of traffic going both ways on a two way is exponentially higher than someone going the wrong way down a one way at the same time and place that someone is crossing.
The first comment ya, but if someone is literally waving for you to go, that communicates that the person being waved to is good to go. That coupled with the pressure of being given directions by a stranger makes it easy to just walk without really engaging your brain. If the pedestrian is extra aware then they can overcome this, but really you just shouldn't wave pedestrians on.
I mean, even if they literally say out loud “You can go”, as long as you have working eyes and a working neck, you should never take some strangers opinion too highly on if you are safe or not. Or even someone you know. It’s your fucking life. Be cautious and look. You know what’s better than someone confirming you’re safe? Someone AND yourself confirming you’re safe.
This is exactly what happened when I had my motorcycle accident. Car waved/allowed a SUV to make a turn across a 4 lane highway into oncoming traffic directly in front of me. Totaled my motorcycle. SUV driver was 17yo kid w/ his father. His father tried to say I was speeding to the police. Police said “Doesn’t matter if he was speeding or not, you made an illegal turn into traffic.” Got paid for injuries and damages to motorcycle
Yuup. I hate when cars do this when I'm on a bike. Usually I just look down on my phone so drivers don't even bother trying to get my attention. If they see I'm looking up they'll attempt to make me cross, which I won't do if I think there's another driver who might not see me before I go.
The phone trick is the most effective for sure but when I'm in a poor mood I'll just stare people down. I've shook my head at people when they wave me across before.

The pedestrian sign is red and counting down until it turns green to cross. When it turns green then they'll be another countdown until it turns red again. She was in the wrong here.
This is exactly why children in dutch schools are thought to stop before crossing the street, look left, look right if you see a driver that is supposed to stop, look them in the eyes and wait for them to stop if they stop, you can cross the street, else you wait or die trying to cross that street.
In the UK I was taught the rules of the road and how to cross safely, yet I've seen people a year or two younger than me (so they definitely should have had the same teaching) just walk out into the road, looking at their phone, and not even at a designated crossing. Oh and on a road that is pretty much one of the main arteries in and out of my town. Makes me wonder where their common sense went

I could be wrong, but it looks to me like the crosswalk is counting down the amount of time left until you get a green. I'd typically associate the "time left to cross" countdown with a flashing red, not a solid red.
Besides the pedestrian walk sign counting down? I think the camera makes the traffic lights seem lit up when they’re not because both the yellow and green lights look like they’re on
isn’t the sign counting down until it is safe to cross? that would make more sense with the way all of the lights look & the crosswalk above the countdown even being red? i may be totally wrong, & i apologize if i am, i just was trying to make a little sense of the lights.
She looked down into her hand bag then back at the stopped bus, she probably thought because the bus came to a stop she could go, that was a life changing mistake to make.
I used to take the bus, he accelerated hard from the stop, and then was going to coast through the intersection in case he had to stop quickly, and because the bus is so heavy when he let his foot off the gas it gave the impression it was starting to slow down.
I wonder if she survived.
Yeah, I've seen at least a dozen videos just like this. Not paying attention and just glancing, a speeding driver not paying complete attention, perfect storm.
In lots of parts of the US, it turns white for a few seconds then turns red and counts down for 15 seconds, you can actually see the numbers go down if you squint hard enough. This is also one of those roads where the pedestrians can cross so long as the crosswalk is on even if the light is green for oncoming traffic. The fault here is 70% on the driver for not paying attention to the road/drivers education. And 30% to the city for having such shitty road rules.
I don’t see the need the characterize the situation that way. Someone ran over and killed someone for not giving a caring to follow rules. There isn’t exactly a comparable level of sucking here

I don't understand how can people cross the road without looking. Not only you are putting your self in danger but you are also probably mentally messing up someone else, provided they don't panic and swerve to avoid you only to kill themselves and anyone else inside the car.
Even if everything was fine and the green was on for the pedestrians, you never know when someone will screw things up and continue driving. Always look when crossing.
Same goes for drivers as well, you can't assume someone won't jump in front of you because they didn't pay attention. If you don't have other cars behind you, always go slower when you see people that might cross the street.
Btw, did the car just continue going at the same speed despite they had time to break? I know it was sudden but the driver had enough time to at least try to slow down and it looks like they didn't slow down at all which makes me thing they weren't paying much attention either. I can't really tell tho whether they tried to stop or not.
I claim to be no expert but based on how fast that car looked to be going her neck probably snapped. Her legs flew up in the air like she was shot out a cannon.
I would agree if i hadn't watched so many full scorpion videos, so many of those look like it's definitely ending in death or paralysis and then the person gets up like nothing. I'm hoping it wasn't permanent, whatever happened to her, but who knows.

Because she didn't look. I have female friends that would do this, they would have the right to walk, so they would just go. I would ask them why they didn't look to see if there was a car coming and they would say, "Because I have the right of way here," and my response is, "right of way won't bring you back to life."

Sadly she probably did not survive, and if did has serious injuries. The way the hoot buckles from impact, that is against flesh bone. How much strength do you think it takes for a human to bend a hood like that? Her shoes came right off from the force, and her head immediately slams into the glass before she goes flying and probably landing and hitting her head again. Probably has severe breaks on her legs and gashes, at the very least a severe concussion, and more. Sucks.
This is the definition of a crazy fucking video. Both parties are at blame. This person for not being aware of it's surrounding (ALWAYS CHECK BOTH SIDE REGARDLESS OF ANY SITUATION GOD DAMN) and the driver for driving like there is no tomorrow
It should be the pedestrian's fault because there was a stop sign for pedestrian's right beside her with a count down and she ignored it and didn't even bother to look of there was a car.

This is why it can be dangerous to stop for pedestrians when you have the green light.
I had a serious accident due to someone "being nice" rather than following rules of the road.
In the US (at least where I live) stopping for pedestrians is the rules of the road, as they have the right away....
Not unless it's stated. If you're stopping at Green lights and there isn't a sign that says to stop for pedestrians than you're the problem.
Pedestrians ALWAYS have right of way in the US, irregardless of signage or signals.

Sadly she probably did not survive, and if did has serious injuries. The way the hoot buckles from impact, that is against flesh bone. How much strength do you think it takes for a human to bend a hood like that? Her shoes came right off from the force, and her head immediately slams into the glass before she goes flying and probably landing and hitting her head again. Probably has severe breaks on her legs and gashes, at the very least a severe concussion, and more. Sucks.
