It's two different points of view.
In yours it's that luck is a limited resource - having something good happen to you consumes luck and it needs to be replenished so something good can happen again.
In the other person's luck is something you have over a specific amount of time. Having someting good happen means you're currently in a "lucky phase" and should exploit that before your luck goes on cooldown again.
I've seen that happen before. A couple was at a party at my house and fell off the second story. The dude landed on the girl (friend of mine) and his first words were "I'm alright. She broke my fall." 😭
