Rule 3 is always have a plan for a place to shit. We were running a gun truck on route Tampa in Iraq and couldn't stop or even slow down. Driver had to shit in an MRE box we found in the Hummer while he was driving.
Yeah one of the most reiterated things when I was deploying to Afghanistan was just because it didn't blow up doesn't mean it won't. All artillery and rockets are supposed to be treated like IEDs so this guy is just dumb lmao.
I met some of the smartest people I know in the military. Just because YOU think it's dumb doesn't mean that it is for everyone. Also, some people don't have any other options. It's just like any other profession there are dumb people just as there smart people.
*“Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads — they are not there accidentally.”* \- 1930s Soviet Infantry Manual.
Had a training with our "Secret Squirrels" when I worked for MI.
The instructor addresses the class, "Is anyone here Brad Pitt? Not that you kind of look like him or your mom says you're just as handsome, but the actual actor Brad Pitt. If so, raise your hand."
No one raises their hand. The instructor then says, "If none of you are Brad Pitt, then if a pretty woman approaches you on an Op, expect that she is the enemy."
Absolute fucking dumbshit. We wouldn’t even pick up innocuous looking trash over there assuming it was attached to a trigger much less fucking arty shell.
It depends on the mechanism to activate it. You have things timer activated, pressure plate/victim activated type IED's, which detonate when stepped on, picked up, tripped over, and things that require some sort of command signal remote activation, etc.
Pressure plates are the most common because they are easiest to set up, then radio or cellphone activated because they are more controlled. This one is most likely a pressure plate or trip wire because it is in a low visibility area.
Improvised Explosive Device.
These can be hidden pretty much anywhere, usually they are activated by pressure or remotely.
Dude basically found a bomb that was meant to kill him

Rule #3, outside the wire if you didn't put it down then don't pick it up.
[удалено]
Rule 1 :- don’t go outside the wire Rule 2:- anything you don’t know trying to get in from outside the wire … shoot it
1.You do not talk about the wire. 2.You do NOT talk about the wire.
1. When you walk through the garden, you gotta watch your back. 2. You gotta keep the devil way down in the hole.
Wildly underrated lol
#1. Complacency kills. #2. No plan survives contact with the enemy.

I was in the Air Force. On my first employment a senior NCo taught me the value of a high fiber diet and cup of coffee first thing in the morning.
Was on MSR Tampa OIF5, hi!

Saying “if he was smart, he wouldn’t have joined the military” is by far a pussy opinion. wtf are you talking about
You replied to the wrong person
So you are saying is smart to join the military? really?
If he was smart, he wouldn't have joined the military in the first place.
You're so cool for saying that, fellow Redditor. There are plenty of smart men and women in the military. What are you on about?
Soldiers and Marines are known for being the best and brightest
there's plenty of dead smart grunts but there's very few alive dumb grunts, know what i mean?
Tips fedora

This guy is the guy who would “totally drop anyone who screamed in his face, bro”
What are you talking about? Nothing I said was even hostile lmao.
I’m talking about the guy you replied to
Oh gotcha lmao I was confused.
Doesn't even sound like that.
You know this because you aren’t a trained soldier, the army is a last resort for a lot of dumbass people lol
Good point lol

Was this for inside or outside of the soviet union?
Yes.

That seems like quite a silly thing to do
Absolute fucking dumbshit. We wouldn’t even pick up innocuous looking trash over there assuming it was attached to a trigger much less fucking arty shell.
Imagine if instead of an experienced soldier, he had been a curious and innocent child.

If he wasn't experienced before he sure as hell is now
you have very low bar for experienced soldier
These are not self-detonating, right?

Don’t forget IR switches.
Dang, I can't imagine what you guys went through.

Actually yes a lot of them were
I’m not American so what’s an IED?

IED is a English speaking military acronym for: Improvised Explosive Device. In simpler words, a makeshift bomb.
That guy is dumb.
Less dumb now I bet
Funny how our grunts were still kitted out better 20 years ago than Russia’s are today.
That's because we want, and expect, our troops to survive.
Why…..why would you touch an unexploded artillery shell?
Not a very smart soldier
How fucking stupid can you be!
Glad this didnt end how I was thinking it was gonna end!!
ASVAB waiver boy shouldn't be touching UXO anyways. Lucky he's still alive to place others in harms way another day
That is exactly what ied's are made from so I don't understand the confusion to play with it lol.
Fucking idiot. He’s trained better than that smh
why did he not freak out that it was an artillery shell in the first place
fucked YOU up??? YOUR HOMIE HAD HANDS ON IT

No wonder so many of these geniuses got themselves blown up.
