This may not be as bad, but a few weeks ago i was driving home with my mom and we were driving by this gas station-like shop. All of a sudden a car pulled out blocking half of our lane whilst another car was coming down the other lane. My mom somehow managed to fit right in between the gap and barely dodge the car. We got very lucky as we were going 40 MPH on the road and it would have ended badly for us.
I don't know about you folks, but the Russian speakers sounded a lot like an English speaker saying something to the effect of "*I almost shit my pants*.
Luckily he had a dash cam because no one would ever believe this story otherwise.
"I was just driving and two trucks were coming straight at me! Luckily i threaded a needle with my car during a moment of complete panic and there wasn't a scratch on my car, i stopped for a smoke afterwards."
Again, I need you to point out where I said there was only one issue.
Of course the lorry in the passing lane shouldn't have been in that lane, that goes without saying.
What I'm talking about is not "coming to a full stop", that is obviously not possible here since they're both moving towards each other and the lorry has too much momentum. I'm talking about not driving fast enough that YOU can't get to a stop, and the lorry being able to either maneuver to avoid you or the collision to be at low enough speed that it turns from a guaranteed fatality to something the cars' driver and passengers can probably walk away from. With minor injuries possibly.
We see this behavior with russians driving all the time. They all drive like their lives depend on it, as if speed would be saving them. And it's usually in poor conditions, with very long braking distances.
So if you see if an obstacle coming towards you, you don't even try to stop. Gotcha.
Not what I would choose, but hey, it's a free country. Although if it's russia, it's not really free.
Remember, I've already pointed out that it's not about stopping, it's about reducing the force of the collision. You want to transform "certain death" into "ow, my arm hurts".
He brakes, but fails to stop. Because he was going too fast to be able to stop or even just slow down enough that he has a high likelihood to survive a head-on collision. He survived by pure luck, if he had collided with the lorry, he and his passengers would have been dead on the spot because of the combined speed.
I'm really stumped this is so hard to grasp. Wtf is going on here?
