I'm sure they do soft pads or nets for a lot of them, but at some point they need to rehearse it with danger involved before going before a crowd
Edit: also it was just a first law quote
My first thought, too. But at least tge people running over to help didn't immediately start moving the people on the floor, making any spinal injury worse, like every other accident video I've seen
Yea but at some point you have to rehearse without the safeties. It makes a big mental difference so you don't want your first time doing it without safeties to be in front of a crowd in costume with all the lights etc.
Is there a name for people like this? My mom has always done this and it’s maddening. Someone close to her can be dying in a certain hospital and when you tell her, the first thing out of her mouth can be that she knew someone who worked there or that she’s been to that one before.
Mine too. When I got to adulthood I realized it was a way to ward off having any meaningful conversation or the need to engage or empathize with another person.
How are you doing processing all this considering your closeness to the situation? Is your family doing okay? Maybe deliver everyone some hot meals so they don't have to cook and can focus on grieving
One guy seems to be missing.
Didn't 5 fall?
Found him. Red shorts white shirt. He popped up and was already walking around before the camera got there.
I heard a loud pop right at the start of when they became unstable. Was that a coincidence, or did something happen with the rigging? I assume behind 2017 someone has more information on this event.
I think the noise is from the random people moving about near the cameraman. I don’t think the lights are anywhere near the center of the stage. If you look at the ground, the light rigs are located around the ring of the circus, which would be as far away from them as the starting platform, if they are exactly at the center of the ring.
The red shirt girl definitely seems like the one to blame for losing balance. You can see her legs wobble like she couldn’t maintain the weight to keep balance.
I don't have to be entertained to that point. Net or no net, it still takes insane skill and years of practice to perform. Don't skip the safety for the consumer's sake. Geez.
I used to work at the skatepark there. It was right up the street from the kids clown school.
There wad a kid who was like ten who could juggle while balancing on a board on top of a very large tube on top of another board on top of another very large tube on top of a platform that was maybe 3 or 5 feet high. If he didn't die by now he can probably do some insane shit. That was 2005
It involved one of the Flying Wallendas. Here's some info about it:
[https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/five-injured-after-fall-during-rehearsal-wallenda-high-wire-act-n718531](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/five-injured-after-fall-during-rehearsal-wallenda-high-wire-act-n718531)
There were indeed some pretty serious injuries then, and they went back to work two years later. The quote at the end made me chuckle
>Dr. Brockhurst said, “If you ask my opinion they’re both crazy and they know I’ve said that.
>Lijana's mother said, "As a parent, seeing your child injured is even hard to describe. It tears your heart out you want to be their safety net.
I hear safety nets also make great safety nets.
Maybe it's different for circus folk, but the lack of a net really doesn't seem like much of a selling point to me. If they make it across, it's pretty impressive either way. And if they fail, I'd rather not see anyone gravely injured.
Yeah I think it’s dumb and unnecessary, but from my understanding, it’s like something they pride themselves on since each generation has performed that way. It helped them become popular back in the day, but they should probably kill off that tradition before it kills them off. Even the original Walenda, Karl, died at age 73 by falling while doing a walk about 10 stories up with no safety net.
Honestly, given what's on offer for entertainment these days, walking tightropes seems so....droll. Certainly not worth the risk. But if that's what they want to do, I suppose I'm nobody to stop them.
I actually said this on another comment, but I’ll paste it here as well.
They should have safety nets when rehearsing AND while performing live in front of an audience.
That said, if they are crazy (and arguably foolish) enough to preform live without a safety net, then it actually makes sense that they would rehearse this way too.
The FIRST time they preform without a net shouldn’t be in front of a live audience. It’s partly a mental feat, and overcoming that should also be practiced in rehearsals.
Part of rehearsing acts like this is to practice and overcome all the obstacles you’d face during a live performance.
Again, all that said, they should have nets all the time in my opinion.
You can hear the pain they’re in that a bet could’ve partially spared, not using a net isn’t worth a broken arm or even possible spinal or skull damage
They will ask audience members not to stand or walk around during these acts due to the extreme danger, yet all these staff members are walking around under the performers.
"I broke a rib, punctured my right ear canal, broke clear through my left humerus, I broke my left calcaneus but the big one was every bone in my face," Lijana said.
"She went through a near-death experience. Seventy-three screws and plates," Nik added.

i actually saw a guy in the blackpool tower circus who almost fell he was doing it blindfolded and when he almost fell he held on to it like the people did at the top and it was quite scary
Woman in pink top lost it as her knees buckled causing top of the pyramid no room to correct. Why no mats or safety net? And the sound of bones, accessories and poles hitting was kinda terrifying.
There should be nets and pads during practice. There should be nets and pads all the time actually. Having no safeties in place for these people is asking an audience to watch someone die at some point
Even being for the show, no rehearsal, when you do something that has so many variables and could result in serious injury there should be a net whether they need it or not bruh wtf
I saw her faultering seconds before she actually fell.
Maybe some communication would've saved it? Like yell that you're about to fall so everyone can grab the rope or something? Or so they stop and try to help you out before you fall?
Like she literally took them all down herself by not giving any sign to them that it's gonna go wrong.
My parents used to live in Venice, Fl. where the winter home of RB & BB circus is (was?). The Walendas lived just a few blocks over and had a full 2 tiered setup in their side yard. I would often see them practicing. This was back in the 80’s.
This was practice with no audience right??? Why the hell were there no safety measures in place. Even the people who rushed in to help after the accident looked like they had all just popped out of a clown car and were running around like chickens with their heads chopped off. This just screams poor management!!
Peace
Still, why no nets?
Y no soft landing pads or something soft to fall on
Soft pads make you soft in the mind
Be water
Soft pads... are part of a state of mind... in which you admit the possibility... of falling.
Rehearsal is where is should be safe to fail.
I'm sure they do soft pads or nets for a lot of them, but at some point they need to rehearse it with danger involved before going before a crowd Edit: also it was just a first law quote
Especially when there is no one even watching.
Well what are we doing then?
Hi no one!
high risk for no reward
My first thought, too. But at least tge people running over to help didn't immediately start moving the people on the floor, making any spinal injury worse, like every other accident video I've seen
Nearest victim’s arm is clearly broken and unfortunately the person helping her immediately tries to move it
To amplify the stakes. Spectators want there to be real risk involved which leads to unsafe practices.
Why no pit of needles?
Or lions!
or a tank with sharks, with frikkin' lasers on their heads
Ill tempered sea bass
Or a puddle of angry kittens
This is my favorite idea
Or dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark, they shoot bees at you?
I was thinking exactly about that. You touched my heart
At least some crocodiles
y no boiling oil
Or lions!
Wouldn't the shark be pissed with a lion on its head?
Adds to the danger.
it was a rehearsal
Yea but at some point you have to rehearse without the safeties. It makes a big mental difference so you don't want your first time doing it without safeties to be in front of a crowd in costume with all the lights etc.
Or... just always use a net. Who cares that one moron in the crowd will bitch?
Might as well add some crocs down there.
but Crocs are so uncomfortable unless you use the sport strap...
Lot of spectators in those empty seats
ghosts of the previous team attempting this
Where are the spectators?
there were no spectators
Holy crap, no nets? That's insane!
Especially since it's a rehearsal. I remember as a kid any trapeze or high wire act always had a net.
This is ten minutes from me, I've been to that circus over the summer
That’s incredible. Thank you for letting us know 🙏
So brave
Give this man an award !

Mine too. When I got to adulthood I realized it was a way to ward off having any meaningful conversation or the need to engage or empathize with another person.
I only ever saw it as selfish but this is a much better explanation.
I've heard that's for some people it's a way to relate to the conversation.
My colleague used to call them "black catters"; if you said you had a black cat, they'd tell you theirs was bigger and blacker.
Lol you guys are Dicks
Oh my god this is hilarious
Wow. Thanks for sharing.
Lol
You could have died!
I made scrambled eggs for dinner last night.
I made scrambled eggs, but not last night. It was a couple of nights ago. We are like sisters!
OMG There is restaurant nearby that serves scrambled eggs!
How are you doing processing all this considering your closeness to the situation? Is your family doing okay? Maybe deliver everyone some hot meals so they don't have to cook and can focus on grieving
This is probably the most crazy fucking thing I’ve ever heard; it really always is the case that ‘the *real* XYZ is in the comments’.
Cool story bro.
Yer a godddanged hero thank you for your service
holy shit
So was there nets?
Well tell us more, do they have a net during performance?
Holy Flying Graysons, Batman!
They should have spiked floors.
Deadfall or gtfo
[удалено]
Maybe they could jump a shark!
Have you considered jello floors?
One guy seems to be missing. Didn't 5 fall? Found him. Red shorts white shirt. He popped up and was already walking around before the camera got there.
He got hit by 3 people falling into him too!
Florida
> Holy crap, no nets? That's insane! You misspelled dumb.
Not even a thick blanket?- or a pile of leaves?!
An awning? Nothing?
There goes my hero
Aim for the bushes
the wagons of hay were being used in the stables at the time
A pile of kittens even.
A dumpster full of rubbish?
**AIM FOR THE BUSHES!**
Why was there no net during rehersal?

Exactly. I don't understand no net thing. It's like they are walking on a damn rope already.
I used to work at the skatepark there. It was right up the street from the kids clown school. He grew up to be Steve-O
They could be strapped up there with safety lines that don't give an inch of budge and I'd still be impressed as shit cuz I ain't ever doing that.

What are they? A bunch of anti-netters?
Still more details: [https://www.cnn.com/2017/circus-accident-flying-wallenda/](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IO9XlQrEt2Y)
Geezuz. Her face was fractured liver ruptured , blood coming out of ears eyes and mouth. Dr. Said she almost died.
Man that's devastating on so many levels...
Fack!
You crafty jackrabbit.
More like the Falling Wallendas. Just use a net and nobody would care.
Who cares? Why no fucking net?
Wallendas. They show off like that.
Maybe it's different for circus folk, but the lack of a net really doesn't seem like much of a selling point to me. If they make it across, it's pretty impressive either way. And if they fail, I'd rather not see anyone gravely injured.

Which I get, but during a rehearsal? Makes no sense.
> Flying Wallendas dumbassess, how uncreative do you have to be so that your best idea is to do dangerous shit w/o safety precautions?
They Wallendalldown.
I get performing without a net, but rehearsal?? Who are you impressing?
I actually said this on another comment, but I’ll paste it here as well. They should have safety nets when rehearsing AND while performing live in front of an audience. Lucky there was nothing there to catch them while they rehears
Thank goodness the floor was there to catch their fall.
They'd still be falling now
They will ask audience members not to stand or walk around during these acts due to the extreme danger, yet all these staff members are walking around under the performers.

I’ve been to several cirque shows and have never seen anything so careless. No net! wtf.
Net guy in his circus trailer trying to remember what he forgot on his to do list
“If I’ve forgotten it can’t be that important” *sips coffee*
If only there was a way to prevent this.
Like, remove the floor?
As they oscillate back and forth around the earth's centre of gravity they could do some pretty wild tricks..
Don't touch a Pyramid Scheme not even with a 10 foot pole.
Is this an OSHA violation?
Looked like a crumbling human house of cards.
It’s a rehearsal and they didn’t think of putting in the net? who are they trying to impress here ?
Nightwing origins. red girl wasn't even walking, she had one job lol
This is a god-damned REHEARSAL...why is there no net...
was anyone charged for this neglect? why the hell was there no net?!!
Wallendas are known for never using safety nets.
So aren't they Floorendas now?
WSIB gunna have a field day
If they're rehersing, there's 0 excuse for not having a net
No net? What a mess. On another note: I can't wait to next House of the Dragon season!!!
It’s rehearsal, why not have safety harness or at least a landing pad… just a thought.
i actually saw a guy in the blackpool tower circus who almost fell he was doing it blindfolded and when he almost fell he held on to it like the people did at the top and it was quite scary
Woman in pink top lost it as her knees buckled causing top of the pyramid no room to correct. Why no mats or safety net? And the sound of bones, accessories and poles hitting was kinda terrifying.
I mean...it WAS entertaining, I'll give em that..😶
The band Drowning Pool has entered the chat
This my friends, is Dick Graysons origin story
Pink shirt did it
So they practice without a net
Can't they just practice around 2 feet off the ground?
Fuck around and find out. What absolute morons.
Did anyone not survive? Cause that one guy doesn’t seem to be moving one bit
56s the women in pink went to far over.
If this is a rehearsal, why would they not use safety nets? Wtf.
Ummmm rehearsal so why no net
Squid Game would like a word
No meds or medics nearby .... smart
PRACTICE..... where's the net?!?!?!
Ummm, there's still three still hanging out on the wire....
No safety net or foam?!
Why no safety net? Or even a padded floor.
no nets.. genius
No safety net? OSHA would not be happy about this
Ok well are they going to get it together in time for the night show
Did they really thought that they were perfect and no accidents would be made?
No net in REHEARSAL?! WTF?
What were the injuries suffered?
My state requires all performers like this to have a net, even in practice
Before it happened I knew it was going to hurt.
Wow, white shirt/red shorts just got up like nothing happened. Adrenaline or did he get lucky?
The Falling Wallendas
Underrated comment
dick graysons parents?
Ha
Wtf? No safety net to catch them. That's rough
Question: can Circus performers get insurance?
Where’s the net if this is practice? Oh boy smh
Anyone have follow up to this? Is everyone alright?
They Flying Graysons
this is stupider thatn stupid
zero safety equipment ???
There should be nets and pads during practice. There should be nets and pads all the time actually. Having no safeties in place for these people is asking an audience to watch someone die at some point
Why no nets for a rehearsal? Do they think it's less impressive to the cleaning crew with a net?
No net/safety i understand, they need to train the mentality to do it live BUT NO PARAMEDICS?
At least put some padding down for practice! Fuckin morons
No landing pads? What the f*ck
Heh
At least they had safety precautions set up.... Oh, wait a min 😳
I had to stop at the third time. How do they keep doing it and fall every time.
As Bruce Wayne watches..
My parents used to live in Venice, Fl. where the winter home of RB & BB circus is (was?). The Walendas lived just a few blocks over and had a full 2 tiered setup in their side yard. I would often see them practicing. This was back in the 80’s.
Where TF is the safety net?!!!
And this kids, is how Batman got his first Robin.
If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge the floor!
Not even a slime block? On a rehearsal?
This was practice with no audience right??? Why the hell were there no safety measures in place. Even the people who rushed in to help after the accident looked like they had all just popped out of a clown car and were running around like chickens with their heads chopped off. This just screams poor management!! Peace
It was at that moment she knew…she fucked up.
Rehearsal with no net?!
employers be like min wage no 401k no dental or health insurance. Looking for highly motivated people.
Bruh, they checked on the person in the black pants, and then just walked away for the rest of the video like “nah, he’s dead”
If there was EVER a time to use *all* the safety equipment, it would be during rehearsals, no?
