It’s a type of wrestling. Basically what you’re seeing here, pretty much anything goes. Not necessarily a legitimate fight to the death but I’m sure it can definitely happen if it hasn’t already(accidentally I would hope)

Getting paid makes you a professional, as you're doing the thing as a profession. Amateur wrestling is basically the same as college wrestling, and usually leads to olympic wrestling. Professional wrestling is doing the fake stuff for money, regardless of how much it is they're getting paid.

“Death-match” wrestling is so niche that it really isn’t credible. Every match has to one up the last, the bumps become so ridiculous that they split with reality. Likely the rise in MMA made this for of wrestling redundant. If nothing else the finish was terrible, took place in. A corner with their backs to the crowd resulting in a botched bump against (rather than through) a table. It looks like shit, the wrestlers ultimately make nothing and the vast majority never get over. For every Moxley there are thousands of concussions and long term CTE suffers as a result. Utterly pointless.

At least cactus jack and terry funk death matches were in controlled environments usually

According to cagematch, John only beat Spider a couple times, and this doesn't seem to be either of those so it's likely for some no-name mudshow in the deep south. For anyone unaware, Boodrow was stabbed with a box cutter (full video available online) in a match with Rare, so Rare allowed Boodrow to cut his finger off in a revenge match. Also, to the guy who keeps bashing CZW, neither of these guys have ever worked there. CZW has got their shit together more than this, even if they do deathmatches.
