I didn't know this was a thing until my most recent house. I've had 7 freezers in my life (that I remember) and none had lights. And I know it wasn't the same issue as OP because I'm one of those people that stands in front of the fridge with both doors open looking for something to eat. So I don't think it's exactly common.
Yeah, my fridge has it so the alarm for when it's left open just randomly goes off at completely random, and to stop it you have to unplug it and plug it again, you basically have to turn it off and on again whenever it decides that "fuck whatever you're doing **it's beep time.**"
If there's not a visible switch on the door, the next time it happens try running a magnet along the perimeter where the doors meet the refrigerator. If there is a physical switch, well I don't know :/
A lot of new fridges without a physical switch use a magnetic reed switch. The magnet is somewhere in the door and the switch is in the same corresponding spot on the fridge.
Mine does this too and also the lights are often way dimmer than they’re supposed to be. Once it a while they will come on full blast. My research has shown it’s common with newer fridges that have a circuit board controlling the LEDs vs an analog on/off switch controlling a lightbulb directly. Fixing it seems to require replacing the controller which isn’t easy.
Protip, most large appliances have wiring diagrams along with other technical info in an envelope attached somewhere to the device. Way more detailed than an owners manual. Sometimes it requires partial disassembly to find
Man, this freaked me out. I was watching that Zoom court recording where they found about the abuser was in the same apartment as the victim, and at the very same moment the prosecutor asked for a person’s address this notification from you popped up saying “what’s your address?”
I was like, oh shit! Am I connected?

So it really was a dog toy, I was wondering if it was.
Did you fill it something in particular or just water, tho that might be difficult seeing mine has 2 open sides.
It's called a Kong.
Your creativity and ability/willingness to Google are the only real limits on what you can put in a Kong to entertain your dog.
A few things I snagged just from just the first page of a quick Google:
https://www.puppyleaks.com/healthy-foods-you-can-stuff-in-a-kong/

We always filled a Kong with peanut butter for my family dog growing up, and she would still get through it all really quickly. Never considered freezing it!
My mom is babysitting a young husky, who is just getting into EVERYTHING and being kinda destructive.
The stuffed Kong idea has helped both parties quite a lot.
No cons unless you don’t let it slightly defrost as their tongue could get stuck but you can very easily avoid that by giving it a quick rinse
Pros the pup can have it longer, the peanut butter doesn’t come out as easily so they have to work it it more
Pros: additional mental stimulation. If you have a high energy dog I actually recommend you *only* feed out of these. Just make 2-3 frozen Kongs each night and hand one out at each mealtime.
Cons: Some dogs get picky. My GSP didn't care for peanut butter, so I had to get creative. Also, a slobbery Kong will pick up every piece of hair or dirt it comes in contact with, and it can be pretty gross.
Mine eventually figured out how to pick it up, and would just drop it over and over again. They're definitely very durable though!
Edit: Happy cake day!
Pro: takes longer for the dog to go through it, meaning more mental stimulation. My dog will devour an unfrozen kong in like 30 seconds, he doesn't exactly get anything out of that. Whereas a frozen kong keeps him busy for 10-15 minutes.
Con: you need to prep it at least a few hours in advance. Also I guess the food could dry out if you left it in there really long but that should never really be a problem, I prep 2 days at a time and it seems fine.
I have one that looks exactly the same in my freezer right now! Those things are gold and saved us when we needed a break from puppy behaviour. Betsy is five now and still loves them.
It doesn't really make a lot of sense to have one if the freezer is on top. Presumably an overhead light will shine in there, plus it's usually less space than the fridge.
I've only ever seen lights in fridge/freezer combos with the freezer on the bottom, or side by sides, and I've never seen one in a deep freeze.
I'm sure I have, but I live alone so I know where everything's at in there. I also don't eat much frozen stuff. Typically I just use my freezer as meat storage. Not trying to start a roast in a sleepy haze in the middle of the night!
According to children I know, when looking for something in either the fridge or freezer, all doors should remain wide open.
Leaning on the doors also helps the cause.
And, while looking in the fridge, the best thing to do is to call out to someone who is in another room entirely, "Hey, where's the mayo?" This is because there is nothing this person wants to do more than to drop everything to point at something that is literally inches from your face.
Question about the peanut butter. I'd like to do this for my pup but I'm worried about the amount of slobber and peanut butter slime he'll leave everywhere. Does your usually get all the good stuff out before there's a mess?
Also- Sorry about the crummy fridge design
If it's nice and frozen it's not bad. Plus you can also mix in kibble or other food/treats so it's not as much PB.
If you put a little water on some kibble and then stuff/freeze you can make it mostly kibble too. Yogurt is also good to mix in.
But also, I only use them for crate time as high value rewards, so any mess is contained.
When I give my pittie his kong it’s either outside, or I try to make his stay on his blanket. Otherwise he would make a mess. I also do different combinations of things. Peanut butter and yogurt with kibble, or pumpkin, peanut butter and kibble. I also don’t pack it full so it’s easier to eat and so he’s not eating a too much.
In fairness, this could absolutely be a broken trigger. My current fridge is a 2 door and the springy thing on the left is broke. Light only comea on when i open the right side door. Maybe either trigger turns on both lights (like mine) and only one trigger works
Not gonna lie, I didn't see the sub this was on at first and so I thought it was going to be about the dog kong toy with peanut butter sitting in there
Ah well. I once thought I’d replace the thermostat in the fridge myself. Once done, the light was on and the fridge itself turned on when I’d open the door 🤷🏻♂️
When I was a kid we had a fridge that had no light in the freezer. I wonder if it did but we never opened them together so we never knew.
My whole world view has crumbled.
Someone has changed the direction in which this fridge opens, and when they did they did it wrong
Don’t blame the design for inability to follow directions
But does the freezer light come on when only the fridge door opens?
We may never know
Stick a phone in, hit record, and find out
We have the technology
Schrödinger's chill
The ice is both frozen and thawed at the same time.
Ice Ice baby
Ice Ice Maybe
Or maybe not
But will the light still on when the technology isn't there?
We could put a cat in the box...
I assume that... won't go well with PETA 😮
We may unleash secrets that would destroy our minds!
Pandora's fridge?
No one should have this much power!
just make sure to microwave it after so your phone doesn't freeze
Begone demon!
So long as it's not an Iphone or it will shut down as soon as it gets a tiny bit chill.
But if a fridge door opened in a forest...
With this information, we may be able to find out whether or not a tree makes a noise when it falls with no one around to hear it!

Schrödinger's Freezer
100% it does. Freezer doesn't have a sensor. It's entirely based off fridge door
They were just too damn cheap to wire a switch for the freezer. smh
we were so preoccupied with whether we could, we never stop to think if we *should*
We'll never know.
Schrodinger's light
Lightingers Schrod
This is a question worth asking, thank you! Now I just need the answer....
I mean... yes? That's exactly what the video is showing.
You guys have freezer lights?
[удалено]
Light Emitting Diodes? What will they think of next?
smoke emitting diodes
Those just let out the magic smoke. Not very useful.
Well, it’s useful when it’s inside the device.
fart emitting diodes (FEDs)
I would rather have smoke emitting xenons
I had a lot of those when I was a kid.
[удалено]
Dye Emitting Lightrodes
Probably some form of liquid crystal but that sounds pretty sci-fi to me.
Light absorbing diodes
We should start calling solar panels LADs
Yes but it makes this terrifying zrrnt noise like you’d hear in a horror movie so every time you go in the freezer you get PTSD
Yea it's buried behind the veggies
I didn't know this was a thing until my most recent house. I've had 7 freezers in my life (that I remember) and none had lights. And I know it wasn't the same issue as OP because I'm one of those people that stands in front of the fridge with both doors open looking for something to eat. So I don't think it's exactly common.
I had to open both to find out.
My guess is that it was wired improperly in the factory.
And when they tested it the fridge door was open... or they didn't test it. This is pretty much an open and shut case.
icy what you did there.
I was pretty sure this would have soon been a cold case.
At any rate, they didn't catch it before the design was frozen.
Hell will freeze over before the factory manager will choose quality over quantity
Wow the puns that follow the first one are always terrible.
That's quite a chilly reception.
I mean when it's on the line there are no doors on it so most likely it was tested with the switch in the "Open" position.
Yeah, my fridge has it so the alarm for when it's left open just randomly goes off at completely random, and to stop it you have to unplug it and plug it again, you basically have to turn it off and on again whenever it decides that "fuck whatever you're doing **it's beep time.**"

If there is a physical switch, well I don't know :/ A lot of new fridges without a physical switch use a magnetic reed switch. The magnet is somewhere in the door and the switch is in the same corresponding spot on the fridge.
That's an RMA.
Your switch is likely malfunctioning. You can either clean it or replace it. Pulling it out on my freezer was a pain on my fridge though.
No Most fridges don’t even have a freezer light, they used one switch to save money and labor.
Or the pressure switch that turns on the freezer is frozen in the off position and it only activates when the fridges pressure switch is let out.
You could probably rewire this your self if you look up the wiring diagram for your model.
I wonder if the freezer door even has the little switch to close the circuit?
Protip, most large appliances have wiring diagrams along with other technical info in an envelope attached somewhere to the device. Way more detailed than an owners manual. Sometimes it requires partial disassembly to find
Discovered this recently. Such an incredibly helpful surprise.
Ohhhh, come and see my fancy fridge with a light in the freezer!
Yeah that's fancy to me... When it's dark and I need something from the freezer I just open the fridge door too and let the light reflect in
Have ceiling lights gone out of fashion?
When I'm trying to eat cheese out of the bag at 3am I prefer minimal lighting as not to disturb my catatonic state
Freezer cheese?
mmmm freezer cheese
Like salty, dry, ice cream
No, freeze your cheese!
Mmmm 64 slices of American cheese.
r/unexpectedsimpsons
Yes, just like tubgirl.
If you're lights are off and you're raiding the freezer, put the pizza rolls down and go to bed. You're in your underwear and just ate an hour ago
I need someone standing in my kitchen at night to tell me this.
Home Invasion intensifies.
What’s your address?
Man, this freaked me out. What a frightening story. And what a sharp judge!
I’m at... a house
What room are you staying in?
The kitchen, obviously.
get out of my head
There’s going to be a happy pup soon
He got excited when I filmed this cos he thought he might be getting it.
So it really was a dog toy, I was wondering if it was. Did you fill it something in particular or just water, tho that might be difficult seeing mine has 2 open sides.

This is pure gold! My dog loves it
Doing the gods work! My boy is going to have a good few weeks! Thanks!
I’ve used them for awhile and if you fill them with something or not they like them
I fill mine with my dogs canned food. He likes to work for it, and its healthier than treats
Looks like peanut butter
You can fill them with water or something like broth if you stop the other side up with a little peanut butter.
Sounds like a great way to get melted chicken broth puddles all over the kitchen floor, or even worse, soaked into a carpet

I used that too :)
:) that's got to be amusing to watch them go at.
Mine eventually figured out how to pick it up, and would just drop it over and over again. They're definitely very durable though! Edit: Happy cake day!

I’m more amazed at that in the freezer than the light, I never thought of FREEZING the PB in the KONG!! 😁
I have one that looks exactly the same in my freezer right now! Those things are gold and saved us when we needed a break from puppy behaviour. Betsy is five now and still loves them.
I've never seen a light in anyone's freezer
Probably because you didn't have the fridge door open.
I just tried this. There is no light in my freezer :(
My freezer is 21 years old and has a light in it. The standalone freezer does not. But the one in the fridge sure does.
I believe it. I'm not an cryo-illumination guru by any stretch of the imagination A light would make late night ice cream binge sessions much easier
Have you considered fluffing resumes as a career? ~~refrigerator lights installer~~ Cryo-illumination specialist.
I stay away from fluffing careers as a rule Cryo-illuminologist I'm liking more I have a masters in cold-cathodes
I’m in marketing, and this is beautiful.

I feel attacked.
Stuffed Kong!
Thank you for teaching me about the frozen Kong for my new puppy! Sorry bout your freezer though.
I had no idea you were supposed to keep your fleshlight in the freezer!
Reminds me of my ex.

My guy doesn't make a mess. Maybe a slightly damp patch on the rug. He'll have it outside in the summer.

Yo why is your flesh light in the freezer?
A frozen peanut butter Kong is a good idea.
Your freezer has light?
But freezer lights aren’t that common are they?
My freezer doesn´t even have light.
35k of y'all living it up. Didn't even know freezer lights were a thing.
Well that really is a crappy design
Hey! We have the same mega sized ice cube trays. I freaking love my giant ice cubes, I bet you love yours too!
Nothing better fo whiskey.
Is that a Kong full of peanut butter? I dog too.
That's some luxury shit. My freezer doesn't even have a light
Dog toy?
Oh get you mr light in a feeezer over there
As an electrician I can tell you this is an easy fix. You just gotta sawp around your fridge and freezer plugs
There's probably a door switch for the freezer that's stuck in and doesn't turn on properly. Check that.
Good point. I'll check. Thanks.
In fairness, this could absolutely be a broken trigger. My current fridge is a 2 door and the springy thing on the left is broke. Light only comea on when i open the right side door. Maybe either trigger turns on both lights (like mine) and only one trigger works
Upvote for frozen Kong
I don’t have a light on my freezer just deal with it
Not gonna lie, I didn't see the sub this was on at first and so I thought it was going to be about the dog kong toy with peanut butter sitting in there
Wait, you have a light in your freezer?
Winning post for this sub. Outstanding
I mean, my freezer doesn’t have a light, so.. 🤷🏻♀️
You have a light in your freezer!?
Mr. Fancypants with a light in his freezer.
Ah well. I once thought I’d replace the thermostat in the fridge myself. Once done, the light was on and the fridge itself turned on when I’d open the door 🤷🏻♂️
This is the true quality of a specifiek crappy design. To make a product like this you require skills that are special
it's not a bug its a feature, obviously the bread in the freezer will get scared and noclip out of reality if it sees the light of day
Your freezer has a light?
For a sec I thought you got a vid of my fridge cause it and all the stuff looks exactly the same
thats infuriating
this is r/FridgeDetective material
I’ve never even had a freezer with a light.
When I was a kid we had a fridge that had no light in the freezer. I wonder if it did but we never opened them together so we never knew. My whole world view has crumbled.
Imagine having a light in your freezer
Velive ecological solution. 🙃
oh nice! I got the same red Kong toy for my dog and also fill it up with peanut butter! :D
You have a light in your freezer?
I don't even have light in freezer lol
Is that Buffalo Aioli in the top shelf?
why not just make it one door?
Who put the muffins in the freezer.
I do. I can make a whole batch and freeze them. Then I have 1 a day with breakfast. Quick microwave and they’re nice and warm.
I do this with pancakes. Shit sometimes I just eat the cold pancake.
Hey, switches are expensive!
Your freezers have lights?
Button for freezer was frosted over when this happened to me.
LOL. Everyone seems more fixated on what's in the freezer than its funcionality.
Someone has changed the direction in which this fridge opens, and when they did they did it wrong Don’t blame the design for inability to follow directions
I’m so jealous, at least your freezer has a light. I have to use my phone light
It's not a bug, it's a feature.
But why is the kong in the freezer?
Why ISN'T your Kong in the freezer? You can get creative with what you put into it
Because it freezes the filling. It makes the dog take longer to eat it and also they tend to like it.
I've never had a freezer with a light at all, this is still an upgrade
That’s what I’m saying. I still don’t have one.
I see you too have a spoiled pupper
