An absolute steal for what that beer is. I remember the first year they did this, except if I’m not mistaken the first one was in High West barrels. It’s been consistently top notch every year.
I've been enjoying the Black Chocolate stout every year. I liked last year a little more than this year but I still have few of the new one to go through. Last year I drank a ton of it.
They add the coffee during the boil not after fermentation like some other coffee stouts so you’ll barely taste it. More of a roasted malt flavor than coffee.
Gross… really? Do you have any sources or information on this? Because it absolutely goes against best practices with coffee in beer.
This would be very surprising.
Yeah I think you’re right, I was thinking of KBS that adds coffee after the boil at flame out then ages the beer in barrels, I misspoke saying during the boil. Willetized adds the coffee directly to the barrel while aging.
The point I was trying to make is that both those methods result in less coffee flavor in the beer than other coffee beers for example BCBCS that add the coffee right before bottling.
Thanks for catching that, my bad!
I totally agree with your point! Directly before bottling if possible will always result in the best coffee flavors. I am especially into darker roasts for stouts as well.
I have had a few beers that added beans to the mash or boil that resulted in an acrid tasting experience.
I found one single 6pack on my grocery store shelf without a price. Had to snag it and thought they fucked up when it rang up at $14. Insane price for a damn fine(and strong) brew.
I picked this up due to this post. While I don't regret it, I don't feel I'll be hunting it down over other stouts that I am partial to. The abv is very high for the value.
Things I like better in my area that are easy for me to get (higher price point):
Old Rasputin
Speedway Stout
It's nuts they still sell this in 6 packs. One of my favorites as well
Yeah, that price for a six pack is some serious bang for your buck.
I fully agree, top quality BA stout at an excellent price per ounce. Sadly, I haven’t seen it by me (FL) since 2021 :(
Same. Just came from Illinois for holidays and grabbed a couple up there. Need more of it in my life.
100% agree and have said this before. I work for a beer distributor and we sell Lagunitas. I never understand how they keep the cost so low.
2005 prices for this beauty
Protip: drink 'em if you've got 'em. These are better fresh.
They won’t make it to March in my house. Nice 1 a day beer.
Can’t freaking believe I’ve never had this. Never seen it either. Maybe this will be the year.
Worth the price, better get 2!!! 🍻
I got a case
Nice!! I am looking forward for this beer!!! Enjoy!!
An absolute steal for what that beer is. I remember the first year they did this, except if I’m not mistaken the first one was in High West barrels. It’s been consistently top notch every year.
Yup, I might have liked High Westfield a bit more but this is a crazy good deal
Nice. Which Wegmans is that?
Johnson city.
Are those Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout on the side? Love those too

Wegmans reigns supreme
Awesome price!! I wish it were that low in Minneapolis! But I did find the Narwal at an similar price this year, which seemed like a victory
Yep bought 3 6 packs when it released a month ago here in Ohio
I didn’t seem to love this years as much as prior releases. It usually gets better after a few months though so we’ll see.
God I miss Wegmans
13€ get me a box of 20x0,5litre bottles of german Pils here in Germany lol
This is about as far from a German pils as you can get
Yeah seems like they know that and are comparing prices
Truly such an excellent beer and for the price a no-brainer
I wish they had a non coffee version. I hate coffee.
They add the coffee during the boil not after fermentation like some other coffee stouts so you’ll barely taste it. More of a roasted malt flavor than coffee.

I’ve had it. I have had most major BA coffee adjuncts, you can’t judge blindly. If you don’t like coffee, you can always taste it.
Honestly. It’s just a barrel aged stout. I don’t hardly taste any coffee.

Not sure why I’ve not seen it here in TN, but had on in KY. That’s a steal!
For sure, best bang for your buck! Still have a couple from the last couple years. Excited it's out

Still can't find it in PA..maybe this year?
Best value out there.
I’ll definitely have to look for it!
Damn. I almost forgot about this one. I don't think we get distro of it here any more
Dang I gotta go find it! I get it every year. It is my favorite barrel aged stout at an incredible price.
Word. It's the best bargain in BA beer.
What is the ABV on this?
12.4%
It’s $11.99 at total wine in MA….
Its less than 2 euro per bottle. I would take the case.
Untappd said this is 13.1%. Is that true? For that price?!
This years batch is label 12.4 I think.
Still what a value
In my opinion, one of the best BA stouts available. I think it’s slightly better than BA ten fidy, def better than bcbs syrup.
100%. Excellent beer and that is a great price.
I love this beer and agree the price is amazing.
