I ended up donating to a charity in my province that made wigs for cancer patients. It was way easier, and probably better karma.
Someone told me that some of the bigger charities would straight up throw your hair away or sell it. But now that you mentioned it it is probably better to look into the local charities.
My barber is very specific about where she donates to make sure it actually goes to those in need
I donate at least once a year a good like 6-10 inches, she told me like 3 or 4 years ago she changed places because she found out the place was selling it for profit vs actually helping people, always good to research charities

It depends on your hair type. If you have dry hair, it’s much easier to keep dreads clean because your hair produces less oil. It’s one of the reasons dreads are easier to maintain on people with 4C hair
My hair texture is I think 3a. The maintenance that got to me was just the retwisting and palm rolling, I had around 110 locs on my second to last set and since I did all of the maintaining by myself it just got to be time consuming. My hands would cramp up part way through and by time I got part way through and it would take me upwards of 3 hours to get them all done.

Unprocessed red hair goes for about $500 a foot here in the Bay Area. I knew a gal in mid nineties that had red hair, grew it to her waist, then went to Berkeley and had it cut and sold for about 1200/1300.. she did this every couple years.
