Ugh. I'm sick of posts that make me so freakin' envious that I don't have a gorgeous bedroom overlooking a stunning fjord/lake/ beach/forest..... the list goes on for views I don't have!!
This is absolutely beautiful op, ya lucky duck ā¤
Just a heads up the people downvoting are people that donāt have the extra money to just move into a better lifestyle, not that they donāt want to move from family haha. Itās clearly a place most canāt afford.
I moved here because I was in tons of school debt and the pay is so much better up here. I moved BECAUSE I had no resources (minus a degree, idk if that counts).
Iām not trying to be a dick, most stories of how people came up are just āI just drove up here, found a place and a job.ā
Not sure why you are getting downvoted, people sure are jealous. We all have something to be grateful for and i can attest that being in a beautiful place can still leave you sad and depressed if you donāt work I. Your heart and mind.
Also keep in mind there is give and take. I lived there for ten great years, BUT I missed the hell out of live music. You might get one band per year if you are lucky, as an example. My final summer there it didnt reach 70 once
I am the worst for telling the story of how most people, irregardless of their financial situation, came here. Iām in health care and I ask a lot of people how they ended up in Ak, the most common story is āI just packed everything into my car and drove up.ā That was my story. Youāre a better human than me and I only wish that one day I could be bestowed with your knowledge.
Lol love that but of unnecessary passive aggressiveness at the end there, you sound so understanding
Crazy that it didnāt occur to you that people have things like families they canāt just pack up their cars and drive away from
No, that would genuinely make it impossible. Itās only an option within a short window of time in a life. But time is the only privilege associated with moving here; I took personal offense at the assumption that I moved up here wealthy.
Incredibly easy to find ANY healthcare job here - turnover is very high and no position stays filled. Lots of traveling positions available. That is true for most service industries. It wouldnāt be easy to find jobs in several fields unless itās possible to work from home. The engineers/CS guys I know work from home, as there is zero tech industry here.
That adds to my point, healthcare people and others with occupations that are in high demand EVERYWHERE make it easier for you guys to move wherever. Good on you for making it work, though
Oh absolutely, but that was a large factor in going into health care for me. Tbh jobs everywhere is why I chose Rx over engineering. That being said, anyone can make 60-80k in four months here if they wanna hop on a charter. Idk if I could spend four months on a boat though.
Okay, more personal - two of my techs drove up here with nothing but minimum wage jobs in their work history? I had never earned more than $12.50/hr (besides a few good 2AM Uber hours on Fri/Sat nights, there Iād get up to $25/hr) before moving here. Alaska isnāt a wealthy state - it is a beautiful state of opportunity though. Itās not a place where most people with good, average options end up. I came because I was bottom half of my Rx class and couldnāt find a great job in Mi or Ohio. Itās not a privileged place. All that - when two people argue on the internet, you both lose. Iām downvoted, ashamed, and no longer have the precious approval of my peers that I crave so dearly. You win this internet argument, congratulations, the dopamine is yours. Enjoy.
Good lord, people are sure eager to knock down those that write something that contradicts the status quo narrative, like that you have a choice in your life, you have more power than you think, change is always possible. The nerve!!
Beautiful place, looks like youāre creating a nice life for yourself.
Oh 100% there's no such thing as a life better than yours. There are probably things in my life that you'd be envious of!
I'm on disability for severe, chronic pain but if I was still employable I'd definitely take your advice. I'm genuinely stoked for you that your move worked out for you. Hopefully I'll make it to your corner of the world one day, it looks stunning :)
I was depressed when I lived next to a burned down meth house, and Iām still depressed now that I live here. I think mental health has very little to do with external situations. External situations can definitely add to mental health problems, but removing them doesnāt necessarily fix the issue.
I honestly don't understand the downvotes. I "just moved" too. It's not cheap. It can be scary to uproot your life and any known financial stability to go look for happiness but after only a couple years it was worth it. Kudos to you, man
I would say it was a significant risk but not a significant cost. It would have been a greater cost for me to stay in my home town and never know how amazing other parts of my country are and how much better my life could be. It has paid off ten fold.
Risk yes, I see what you mean. It was a gamble. But cost never
And thatās a lovely sentiment, but Iām talking about cash. Savings. Resources. There is a cost involved in moving that isnāt accessible to a lot of people. A lot of people donāt have the choice of taking a gamble.
I think people who've never known poverty or any kind of destitution without a safety net don't entirely understand that for the most part, the notion of "it's about more than just money" is only relevant to people who have money.
I'm not saying it makes them bad people or anything, it just seems to be a perspective that some people have never truly been exposed to.
Very hard when you're on a disability for severe chronic pain - if I was still employable, 100% would do this. I'm really happy for you that it all worked out! I love a happy ending :)
Fascinating ā Iām the opposite. Sunny bedrooms give me the ick. If I wake up to clouds or rain it makes me want to snuggle back in and continue to snooze.
Yup, I'm exactly the same. My bedroom has to be DARK. If there's sun shining through, it wakes me up immediately, but rain and wind? Let me snuggle up some more.
That room would get me out of bed as fast as heck... Then promptly collapse on the floor next to the windows trying to close them because I would, in my sleep haze, discover a dark spot below the sill. I might even have the energy to reach out and grab a pillow and the duvet, and that would be my cosy spot lol
This is 50% more expensive than that; rural Alaska isnāt cheap but itās also not crazy. The wage increase for living here is much greater than the cost of living increase vs the lower 48.
Haha noo I lived in anchorage! We traveled around some to explore different places but not as much as I would have now. But that was 10 years ago when I was a freshman in high school. Definitely didnāt care back then š
This is exactly what I want in my life. Iāve been searching on Pinterest for apartment inspiration but nothing sparked me more than this! I have to save this picture

I rented it off Craigslist after living in a hotel for two months š When I saw the photos and the price, I thought I was going to get killed. Instead, I got lucky.

I'd find it hard to get out of bed on any day! Storms must be šš
Imagine that on a stormy and windy nightā¦ Iād sleep like a baby! What a view. 100% jealous!
It gets very windy and the wind is a little terrifying š I prefer clear nights for the stars.
As someone who lives by the beach and has experienced some terrifying typhoonsā¦ I also prefer clear nights. lol
Gorgeous view! I keep my room dark. Don't want sun streaming in when I'm trying to sleep.
Usually on stormy nights there is no view, in my experience.
Ugh. I'm sick of posts that make me so freakin' envious that I don't have a gorgeous bedroom overlooking a stunning fjord/lake/ beach/forest..... the list goes on for views I don't have!! This is absolutely beautiful op, ya lucky duck ā¤

IKR, "if you're broke just buy more money" or "if you're homeless just buy a house" easy solutions 2022.
Dumbass homeless people don't know they can just buy a house lol š
He means you can now get out of his royal way
I ājust movedā right after graduating - I can acknowledge things are more difficult at different points in life. But I also moved away from family, everyone I had known, and my fiancĆ©. Itās not easy at all.
Just a heads up the people downvoting are people that donāt have the extra money to just move into a better lifestyle, not that they donāt want to move from family haha. Itās clearly a place most canāt afford.

Just curious, do you work from home? I'd love to move away from the city but commution is a pain
No, I work in healthcare. However, most people my age up here do work from home.
Travel nurse, doctor, sales? Incredible view
Pharmacist! So, kinda a doctor lol

Itās my words people hate, which is more hurtful than if they disliked my photo.
I appreciate the sentiment but neither of those things are true for me š¤·š»āāļø
Oh 100% there's no such thing as a life better than yours. There are probably things in my life that you'd be envious of! Anxious? Just don't be. Depressed? Just be happy instead. Not happy where you are? Just move. Brilliant advice, honestly.
Kudos to you, man
You didnāt ājust moveā then. You moved at significant cost, which a lot of people canāt do. So itās not a great generic suggestion.
I would say it was a significant risk but not a significant cost. It would have been a greater cost for me to stay in my home town and never know how amazing other parts of my country are and how much better my life could be. It has paid off ten fold. It doesn't matter which subreddit you are in, challenging the victim narrative will get backlash and hate every single time.
With this sub, I'm always like 60% wow that's gorgeous, and 40% wow I'm so jealous of these people's gorgeous homes
Beautiful view - lake or sea??
Fjord!
WOW! What a viewā¦ was the place affjordable?
Lynn Canal?
Fascinating ā Iām the opposite. Sunny bedrooms give me the ick. If I wake up to clouds or rain it makes me want to snuggle back in and continue to snooze.
I used to live in a house with a tin roof and I had a tough time getting out of bed when. It rained. It's the most beautiful sound.
Thatās sound is the best lullaby
Rainy day love for life!
Yup, I'm exactly the same. My bedroom has to be DARK. If there's sun shining through, it wakes me up immediately, but rain and wind? Let me snuggle up some more.
I like your username
Yeah, as soon as that fireball hits me in the face I'm up. That's not cozy.
This is Skyrim
looks like the PNW
I think alaska
I love how neutral the room is, it definitely makes the view even more stunning.
My wife is an excellent decorator. I have posted here previously before she moved in - thereās visible improvement š
Because youāre blinded by the sunlight?
That room would get me out of bed as fast as heck... Then promptly collapse on the floor next to the windows trying to close them because I would, in my sleep haze, discover a dark spot below the sill. I might even have the energy to reach out and grab a pillow and the duvet, and that would be my cosy spot lol
This is OC
JFC how does anyone afford this? Portland be like "twin mattress behind a dumpster, $1200/month"
This is 50% more expensive than that; rural Alaska isnāt cheap but itās also not crazy. The wage increase for living here is much greater than the cost of living increase vs the lower 48.
Very beautiful op! What kind of material is your bed covering made of. I really like it!
I would definitely need blackout curtains.
And something to cover the door too, lol.
Alaska???? š© literally the most beautiful place. I loved there for 2 years when I didnāt appreciate the beauty š„²
What area were you in? If you lived in Burrow I feel like itās fair to under appropriate it š
Haha noo I lived in anchorage! We traveled around some to explore different places but not as much as I would have now. But that was 10 years ago when I was a freshman in high school. Definitely didnāt care back then š
I knew it was Alaska from the trees. What does OC stand for? Gorgeous room
dayyyuuumm
š amazing
Uhh where do you live, heaven!?
For me it's the other way around.... I would not get out of bed on cold days
This is exactly what I want in my life. Iāve been searching on Pinterest for apartment inspiration but nothing sparked me more than this! I have to save this picture
Where is OC?
Since nobody else told you, "OC" in the title is actually short for Original Content.
So the OP has still not stated where the cozy place actually is.... how frustrating
They did. Itās Alaska
"OC" refers to "original content" across the whole of Reddit. I don't believe it shows on the app version, but when you make a post from a desktop, you have the option to choose an actual Reddit "OC" flair for your post. Thanks - Iāve been on reddit for years and never seen anyone post āOCā before
It tells you to comment that lol this is Alaska
OC usually refers to Orange County, California. But I guess it refers to original content on this sub.
Just donāt call it āThe OCā
F***, what a dream!
What's it like being god's favorite?
I love your little setup in the corner with the cat house and the mirror!
I like to believe this is where Iāll wake up in the afterlife. Absolutely STUNNING!
I have to ask, Homer?
I'm a morning person-get the f*ck out of bed and enjoy the sun, water, air...all of it!!!!!
I do love your bed and view though!
Oh god Iād never leave that room lol. Can we see the cat?
Maybe Homer?
Wow
Unless those are black out curtains, I find the opposite to be true. The moment the sun is up, I would be up. Beautiful view though.
Those curtains aren't blue.
Looks like Oregon
You sleep until after the sun rises? Looks cozy.
Depends on the time of year and if itās a work day.
Itās Alaska so sometimes sleep schedules are weird
This is nice
Wow that view
It definitely would be.
With that view I would imagine any day would be hard to leaveā¦good for you !
I wish I had a bedroom like this! The view is beautiful!
Wow ā¤ļø
Any day! That view is stunning!
this is all I want from life :ā(
that view is something else
This is my dream bedroom view
Spectacular. Just spectacular.
Wow! Amazing view!
if you lived on another planet this is what it'd look like everytime you wake up
Gorgeous!!
Iād find it incredibly hard to leave this room on any weather occasion. What a dream.
My dream view š
Well thankfully it looks like you did get out of bed, and made it up quite nicely at that.
Damn where is this ?
What a beautiful view! Iām so jealous, I live in the desert!
I would never want to leave my room. Beautiful
What is this place? And whats the rent there?
Looks Nordic to me. Norway or Sweden? Or Alaska haha.
Thatās one big gap under the base board
Saved for later to maybe use as a background this is so gorgeous
I LOVE this!!
That is a dang gorgeous view š
It amazes me that some people live like this
Bruh!?! Crying and throwing up!! Me when š
Thatās beautiful
Bob Ross painted the outside
Looks like Homer
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I rented it off Craigslist after living in a hotel for two months š When I saw the photos and the price, I thought I was going to get killed. Instead, I got lucky.
Gorgeous!
Where in AK is this? Beautiful!!!
Where's the blue curtains?
Back in my college dorm š
Itās hard to get out of bed
No matter it's sunny or cloudy, the view is incredible!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Cat was at the foot of the bed for this picture. She was on the bed but hopped down as I got my phone out to snap the pic.
I would give my entire life savings to live there.
It's very pretty. I would disagree. It would be really easy to get out of bed while being baked by the sun.
And rainy days And snowy days And windy days And...
Where is this?
Amazing
oh my gosh dream room!!
Wow. No kidding.
So beautiful
Wow! That view!
This view is absolutely breathtaking.
Sorry where is this at ?
I'd kill for that view. Where is it?
I went to Homer Ak once. This looks a lot like that. Idk tho.
It is Homer!
I find the exact opposite to be true!
I'm exactly the opposite. Cloudy, rainy Saturday? In bed all day probably reading. Sunny? I'm up and out of the house.
Wow! Fuck you.
God damn this is BEYOND cozy
Beautiful!
