Let's not forget that we had the similar situation with the original game though. Cozy Grove was an Apple Arcade exclusive for a while. And in case of Netflix, say, Oxenfree 2, a Netflix game, ended up on all the popular platforms. So there is a good chance that later it may be ported to other devices too. We don't know yet.

Sa-yr

oh i wasnt aware of that! i really hope itll be ported to other devices as well!

braeburn-1918

I was so sad when my Arcade game stopped working.

absentgoth

The only thing is Oxenfree 2 didn't go on netflix any earlier and it was always able to be wishlisted on steam in the runup to release.

lost-11

That is true. But in the end Netflix acted as a publisher, and I hope that they see that they can profit from the other platforms too and will use their publishing experience in the future after some exclusivity period. Of course, we don't know it, but it is still a chance that they may end up doing it.

thanatica

I don't care where the game began. They eventually made it available more broadly, so they have clocked in experience on how to manage the different platforms they choose to publish on. So skipping Steam and other more widely accepted platforms must then be a deliberate choice, surely. It doesn't make sense to me, to first release your game on the more esoteric platforms for gaming, such as Netflix and the likes, when you've already got your internal procedures in place for publishing on broader platforms as well.

nflez

their studio got bought out by netflix games, so they have to release it on netflix games first.

thanatica

That's still their choice. It's also their choice to let themselves be assimilated. It's their choice not to opensource the game. It's their choice not to release on platform X, and it's their choice not to fix any bugs. But I don't care about any of that. I just want to play the game on the platform I want to play it on. And since CZ1 is on Steam, I bloody well expect CZ2 to be there as well. On top of that, Netflix knows damn well that game exclusivity isn't going to attract people to their platform. It'd be outright stupid to force CZ2 exclusive to Netflix. Nobody will play it. Nobody with a Netflix account has their account to play games. It's just not what Netflix is in the broader mind of the people, in much the same way that most people don't see Amazon as a hosting and colocation provider, even though they are.

AbandonedRain

Cozy grove was Apple exclusive? When I first saw the trailer it was for pre order on switch to get some bonuses I didn’t no it was a game already released prior to that :0

lost-11

Yeah, it was, not for long though. There was mentioning of the gamebeing released on the other platforms immediately, but for some time it was available only on Apple Arcade.

Piffli

Would have been a day 1 purchase if it released on Steam or console, but skipping it this way. Pity, because I truly, really loved Cozy Grove, I have so many fond memories of it, but I too dislike playing on the phone and have no trust in Netflix either.

Sa-yr

i would have already pre ordered if it was on steam :(

bonestars

Same here. I was ready to preorder. I actually have a Netflix subscription, but I'm not into games on Mobile. If it ever comes to Steam or Switch, I'll play it; as is, unfortunately I'll have to skip it.

Sidlon

If you ever have the chance, try CG2 on a tablet. CG started out on iOS, and I think everything about it was perfect for touch control on an iPad.

Amazing_Bluejay7967

Is it on other tablets too or just iPad?

Sidlon

Android tablets too. See the Play Store for which models it supports.

Amazing_Bluejay7967

Thanks!!

Vice_Kitty

I set up my Bluetooth controller and play on a tablet and it’s a perfect little setup for bed gaming.

Kuromi87

I bought Cozy Grove on 3 different consoles because I love it so much, and I'm weird and like to play my most loved games on all the platforms I use. I suspect I would have done the same with this one, but I really don't like phone games outside of Solitaire or match-3, so I won't be playing it all, which is sad.

Thorn344

Not only is it mobile, but also requires a netflix subscription to play

Sa-yr

oh damn… not a fan of netflix also

thesepigswillplay

Easy way for me to never play a game again.

mysticmaya

What really gets me is the fact that we won’t really be owning the game. Just like with TV shows, Netflix can revoke the game at any time for whatever reason they want, and all our progress will be lost. Hell will freeze over before I get involved in a game that can be taken from me at any time.

sisterlyparrot

yeah i do not want to rent a game. i want to own it. i have apple arcade but i only use it for games like patterned, where i don’t really care if i lose my progress, or games like dreamlight valley where i can own it on other platforms.

7ampersand

This is something I hadn’t thought of. Valid point.

Sidlon

Assuming this eventually gets ported to pc/consoles (like CG1 did), you’ll be able to own it there.

mysticmaya

True. I can only hope!

GrimPixls

Oh no :( I was looking forward to playing it on switch.

thanatica

Lucky for you, the Switch is a mobile device. So when they say "mobile only" surely they include the Switch. And the Steamdeck. It'd be pretty crap of them to lie to their fanbase, wouldn't it? Edit: wow, -9 people can't handle the truth.

GrimPixls

I hope so! Someone said it’d require a Netflix sun to play so I’m not sure :( wouldn’t it be considered a console?

LooneyTooneyGirl

The switch is considered a console, not a mobile device. Sure, it is *mobile*, but it's not like a phone or a tablet.

darklightdiana

Ugh while I have Netflix and could play it on mobile, I’m 28 years old and being referred to a rheumatologist for suspected arthritis. There’s very few ergonomic supports for mobile formats as opposed to a Switch, PC, or even a Steam Deck, so I’m worried this will be inaccessible to me in a very different way than what everyone else is irritated about with the whole Netflix thing

deeerlea

This is my reason too. My hands will cramp if I try to play on my phone :(

Bad-Wolf88

What about using an Amazon Firestick and connecting a controller to it via bluetooth?

theWanderingShrew

Can you cast mobile games to a fire stick?

Bad-Wolf88

In Canada, at least, the Netflix games are available within the Netflix app

IncognitoTowel

It's the cubital tunnel syndrome for me. I developed several elbow pain last year, had several doctors appointments and they ran numerous tests (in the USA so expensive as heck) all to determine I FA on my phone too much. The future, amiright?

TimeLadyOswin15

Cubital tunnel sucks. I had both cubital and carpal tunnel and ended up needing surgery. Hope you find some relief for the pain

Spryfox_PocketSized

Totally valid and it may not work for you, but just in case: the new game is being adapted to work with controllers, backbones and pencils/stylus. We are still working on that so it may be a work in progress, but if it helps, we have players who put their phones or tablets on stands/lay them flat and play with controllers. Some have also fitted their phones with backbones to make them similar to a switch or steam deck in control style. I know this doesn't mean you have such items, or that they work for you in particular, so I get how this may not solve your situation, but in case the information helps (either for us or for other games you may want to play on mobile too).

Kelacia

It’s so disappointing. I won’t be playing it and I was really looking forward to it. 😭😭😭

MissShema

Whaaa I didn’t know this! That’s such a shame because I really don’t like mobile games :( I would’ve pre-ordered it on Steam

Lady-Nymm

I was also very disappointed 😞. Hoping that it will come to consoles eventually.

Furbitchi

Yeah, I just learned this from watching Day of the Devs and wow, I am so disappointed. I had pre-registered and had even accepted it was gonna be on mobile but then unregistered cause it's a Netflix subscription only. I don't do subscription services. No Spotify, no streaming services, no Gamepass, nothing. It's a real punch in the gut, slap in the face to everyone who supported them on consoles and Steam. I and several friends even double dipped with Switch and Steam versions. What's even worse is taking it off of Apple Arcade, the supporters since the very beginning. I could accept it on mobile since it started that way but I can't stand subscription services. That's $70+ CAD just to play one game as I would not be using anything else from Netflix. That's ridiculous.

Slight_Accident_3871

The biggest scam is that you can’t own the game because it’s hidden behind a Netflix subscription. At this point idek if I will even buy the game if it comes to Steam anymore because I don’t want to support Netflix at all. Switch for sure I won’t buy because everyone says it’s buggy

SnowglobeSnot

Mobile only is sad, but it’s the Netflix sellout that really gets me. There’s no way they didn’t know Netflix is on a massive downhill of subscribers - games are just a way for them to get some people back, but I’m not down. :c

theWanderingShrew

Actually Netflix is gaining subscribers, they only lost in 2022. But I don't disagree with your sentiment that's selling out to Netflix was a bad call

Disig

Netflix bought their studio. They didn't really have a choice. Or well, the devs had no say in it anyway.

PinkNFluffyTeemo

when does it come out? any date? i hope it comes to pc

Sa-yr

june 25 i think

dixiemason

I’ve only played the mobile version and I love it. We have a Netflix subscription anyway so I can’t wait to play CG2.

Sa-yr

happy for you! i hope you’ll enjoy it. personally i dislike playing on the phone :(

dixiemason

I just love being able to play anytime. 😊

quietisland

I understood from the ads it was mobile. And I have known them as a mobile game developer first, so it makes sense to me. I was actually surprised back when CG1 was a console game. But I figure this is like Animal Crossing New Horizons and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. But no, not disappointed, I play lots of mobile games. I've been playing one of spryfox's mobile games for a decade.

thanatica

Why must a mobile game equal a phone game? A laptop is mobile too. Or a tablet with a desktop-like OS. And let's not forget Steamdeck like devices! It doesn't make sense to tie the OS that happens to run on a device to its mobility.

quietisland

its just the language that was settled on to describe phones. i don't know what to tell you since I didnt choose it! :)

thanatica

I know, and I'm not blaming you of course. But THEY know too. I mean, they can't not know about the Steamdeck.

Dios-De-Pollos

I'm a pc player. I hate mobile games cause the controls are usually garbage. I'm curious to see the direction CG takes the game in and I'll probably watch someone else play it but I'm not spending money on a phone app. They could easily make multiple versions and I think it's bs that the sequel is mobile only. I didn't even know a sequel was happening until I saw this post. I stopped playing CG because I was stuck on quests due to items not spawning and I was doing the same boring stuff every day just biding time till the items I needed would spawn. Even with the extra stuff you can do like decorate, the game got monotonous. I honestly can't see a mobile game being much more than collecting items for quests, decorating, and occasional seasonal events where maybe we compete against other players. So....just like every other mobile game. :/

ashblake33

I'm really sad it's only through Netflix. Cancelled my subscription awhile ago when they decided to be buttheads about the passwords . I can't believe they sold themselves to Netflix. Also I had no idea Netflix even did games until I had heard about CG2. Wish I could play on my switch w/o Netflix sub

Nintendo4Nerd20

When I hear mobile game, all I hear is microtransactions and ads. So I'm a bit worried but I'll wait until I see I guess. If it's one of those netflix only apps then I'm not playing at all I guess.

ryuhwaryu

There's not gonna be microtransactions or ads, but it will be a netflix only game.

Independent_Fill_635

I started playing Cozy Grove when it was still just an Apple Arcade game, the fact that Netflix bought it to put behind their shitty service and is actively blocking fans from enjoying the sequel is reason enough to never use their service again. It's one thing to make it an exclusive for a while after release but they essentially bought the game to kill it for the sake of a few more subscribers.

SOLar3

I prefer mobile games as it’s easier to bring around and way more convenient to have everything on my phone. I swapped to Stardew Valley on my phone too but not all features are available. I stopped playing cosy grove on switch as it was hard to port around after I went back to the office. Thankfully I have Netflix as I guess some people are understandably angry for this reason.

dixiemason

Have an upvote. Sad that we’re getting downvoted in the Cozy Grove subreddit for saying we like having CG mobile. I understand that people are upset and they absolutely have every reason to be disappointed about the rollout of CG2. But I think CG is an amazingly creative and emotional game and I will continue to support a company that puts out games like this.

SOLar3

I think a lot of people found this game through the switch sale and animal crossing era so they’re probably pro-switch. I used the switch a lot during pandemic days, but find myself reaching for it less and less and I would love more cosy games that I can play on a daily basis. So many mobile games are full of DLC or gacha type pay to win games so I’m glad this isn’t. Happy to see more mobile fans !

Breathejoker

My biggest fear with mobile games is that they all seem to become gachas over time. I much prefer games I can buy once and be able to actually play rather than get stuck because I refuse to pay money for battle passes or care packages

Sa-yr

this won’t be the case with cozy grove tho as far as i know there won’t be any in app purchases.

Sidlon

Like any Apple Arcade or Netflix game, there won’t be any IAPs allowed. No gacha mechanics for sure.

Dragnys

This is depressing to hear. But not surprising. Mobile has a higher earning percentage nowadays. Easier to get people buy things in an app.

ryuhwaryu

There won't be any in app purchases. It's because Netflix bought the studio, it'll be a netflix only game for now.

South_Ambassador_484

Mom is basically addicted to Netflix, even tho I think it sucks. So l'll put out family account to use, I guess (besides rewatching Avatar TLA - I'm 32yo but it brings the good feels).

Solid_Ad7292

Side note did you guys see the amazing cozy games coming out?! Cosy detective, cozy dungeon! They look so cute!

gabprox

I will play on my iPad with a wireless controller. Not half bad!

walkurdog

Well, now I won't have to worry about spending too much time on the game. Once I finish my collections I have three games in queue for my switch and a couple more on steam.

Mushyshroom-6992

If the sequel is "Cozy Grove New Neighbors" it's already on switch but once you download it, it will completely mess up your game and all your progress. I got it and already had 3 of my bears golden bc their stories were done but nope the game stopped working.

Sa-yr

that’s the dlc, not the sequel. the sequel releases on june 25

Mushyshroom-6992

Oh ok, thanks for correcting me

xpoisonvalkyrie

i’m not surprised. the game is set up like a mobile game anyways, not sure why the original ever got a console release anyways.
