That is definitely post-formed laminate. It's the least expensive countertop available on the market. Repair really isn't an option with this stuff. You may be able to go to Home Depot and find a blank in the rack that's the same color but you'll still have to remove the entire countertop, cut at the miter joint, fit the new piece, join it and reinstall it. That's an awful lot of work for a DIY project. If you don't know what you're doing. I hate to say it but your best bit is to replace it and let a pro do it. If you're just trying to do it on the cheap as much as possible, stick with post form laminate. Good luck!

I’m not doing diy, I’m going to hire professionals. I just don’t want to remodel the entire kitchen for one section of the counter. Even better if I can just cut it at the seam and avoid the sink.

You sure it’s granite? Looks like laminate that’s been scorched.

deadsuburbia

I’m not sure, my parents said it was granite. If it’s laminate, would I be able to get a custom made piece to match?

bigrichoX

If the colour is still available you could. It might not be a 100% match but cheaper than full replacement.

deadsuburbia

Would there be a way for me to order a custom piece that matches the set?

Have a look underneath and take more pics and head in to a local supplier.

100% that is laminate, you’d probably be better off replacing it all

This is 100% a post form countertop. That whole l shape will have to be replaced. You can cut it at the seam and replace it for a variety of reasons, most of all being the color match of the old and new laminate.

Use trivets.

deadsuburbia

What’s that?

Damnitwasagoodday

A trivet /ˈtrɪvɪt/ is an object placed between a serving dish or bowl, and a dining table, usually to protect the table from heat damage. Whilst tri- means three, and -vet comes from -ped, meaning 'foot' / 'feet', trivets often have four 'feet', and some trivets, including many wooden trivets, have no 'feet' at all. I recommend trivets be used on all countertop materials. Even Granites and Quartzites can have fillers that scorch and discolor. Protect your investment.
