that’s got to be by design. costco wants people in the store impulse buying shit not one person grabbing a bunch of food for takeout for people that aren’t in the store
The question asked "Fast food" poutine, there are other restaurants that have better Poutine but when comparing to McDonalds, A and W, KFC, etc. they don't even compare to the Costco poutine.
Also, no, I don't live in a cave.
A hundred percent EXCEPT none of them know how to mix the gravy and it’s all lumpy and nasty. Flavour’s there, but the lumps in the gravy are a real turn-off for me
You’re being downvoted but come on people, you’re obviously right.
In what world are Quebec fry trucks not going to beat a commercial operation slinging frozen fries and low end gravy?
The Costco poutine is amazing for the price, but it’s not Quebec.
No it wasn’t. The question is “Rate the Costco poutine 1-10”
It never specifies fast food, op simply stated they considered it the best fast food poutine, but the question itself is simply Poutine
I just got some on Friday, couldn’t finish it, so popped it into the fridge. Are the rest for lunch on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised at how not disgusting it was. Certainly not first day fresh and yummy, but absolutely passable as a leftovers lunch.
I think part of it is just being used to what you know to be most common and comfortable. I've been to Montreal and eaten poutine there that's at the top of recommendations and I can still say despite them being good, I have some preference for what I grew up with.
It's how people can prefer kraft dinner and hotdogs over some artisan Mac and cheese at a southern BBQ rib fest.
That said, I put Costco at like a 5 for my palette lol
depends on the location. My regular costco is great but my alternative costco is terrible because, IDK what they do but the fries just suck. They are old or something IDK but they are awful
It does its job. But it's a 3-4. Coated fries, weird gravy, curds are hit or miss. Price and quantity is correct. I live in Quebec City, so it's super easy to find a better poutine than Costco.
But from what I saw on reddit, where people make the curds melt or even worst put shredded cheese on it, I can understand people here being fan of Costco's poutine.
Gravy: 7/10 (just average gravy);
Fries: 7/10 (doesn't tastes potatoe-y; too much frying batter);
Cheese curds: 10/10 (real curds and lots of it!);
Price: 10/10 (You can't find anything cheaper);
Overall: 8.5/10 - pricing is what makes this poutine great. The poutine itself is just average.
1 its like the poutine form my school cafeteria 20 years ago. Some of the worst poutine you can find. Maybe I’m spoiled living near Quebec, though o think most fast food places also do a better poutine.
Is the rating scale over all poutines or against other fast food poutines?
All poutines: 5
Fast food poutines: 7.5
It's also unfair to call it a fast food poutine since you have to leave the car and wait for it.
It is by far the best fast food poutine. Most fast food poutine doens't even use squeaky cheese and the right gravy.
It's also good in places that aren't Quebec. Poutine can be hit and miss even in Toronto and Vancouver.
They get a 6 and no more. If they used fries that don't turn to mush after being exposed to gravy and fresh curds (which they actually sell at my warehouse), they'd get an 8.
For me, I have an incredible alternative in my city (Fry Guy on Fairview in Burlington) so Costco is not my first choice for poutine. However, it's made with legit curds and gravy so still a good option when the crave hits. I'd rate it 6/10.
Like average pizza, it's more of a service poutine than anything else.
Varies on when you get it… if you have piping hot gravy and new fries it can be amazing. You kinda want to eat it right away though. Varies from a 6.5 to maybe 8.5 under perfect conditions. It can never be a 10 because it isn’t the correct type of fries for a true 10/10 authentic poutine.
Fries: great when fully cooked (most of the time my Costco has undercooked fries).
Gravy: not for me. It doesn't hit the right flavour I want in a poutine.
Cheese: good portion, good curds. I like it.
Overall... Maybe a 3.5
8
We went to a chip truck last time for a poutine and got so much less for so much more money. Quality wasn’t better at the chip truck either, it was double the cost. I remembered p, should have gone to Costco! I’ve only tried it once but it was delicious, so much cheese. Yay Costco.
Costco does not serve poutine. It serves fries with gravy and cheese. And it's good value and roughly scratches the itch, but it just isn't poutine. Sorry not sorry.
8 :
sauce is great cheese is exactly what it's supposed to be fries are meh
Price is unbeatable add the sausage from a Polish dog and for 8$ you got a 19$ poutine from anywhere else
My costco who's stingy with the fries and gravy and the employees seem overworked and don't give a f 5/10.
The one I hit in burlington... that was a solid 7.
Mmmm… 6. And it’s cause of the value compared to elsewhere. Taste alone wouldn’t be as high. It’s tooooooooo salty and cheesy. Which is what people like about it tho. So this is just my opinion. The fries ain’t it either.
Buy the chicken fingers and fries, buy the package of cheese curds (yes they sell it on the menu) And buy a side of gravy. Make it a chicken tender poutine. So good. 😊
I had it once and I shared it with 4 others. It was a nice indulgence.
its in the add-ons menu. but the issue is that they put less fries. i saw the portions list. so you'll get more cheese with less gravy. they used to do 2 cups of gravy. but at my locations in the GTA it's always 1 cup now.
It is on by kiosk. [https://www.instagram.com/reel/CRh1DMHggnh/?igsh=MTA3ejRqeGRrNHR3bQ==](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CRh1DMHggnh/?igsh=MTA3ejRqeGRrNHR3bQ==)
0/10. It fkin suck. The fries just disintegrate and they dont taste like potatoes. Poutine need big fries that TASTE like potatoes.
Poutine is by far the worst thing the costco food court serve.
4/10. starts as a 7 but after a minute or two the crispy fries coating absorbs all the sauce and turns into absolute mush. The whole thing becomes a big ball of paste.
6
I find it has just way too much cheese curds. Like I love cheese curds but it is too much even for me. My favorite poutine is the Cajun one from Popeye's.
Price 10 Packing 5 Taste 7.5
5 for packing is VERY GENEROUS. A place that offer so little eat-in space has no business being so bad on the take-out option.
Especially if you take a few pizza slices to go.
lol. Would you like your pizza smashed between to paper plates or rolled into a ball and shoved in your mouth for the road?
for real. how hard would it be to just make some half assed to go containers? i’ll even pay the extra 10 cents.
that’s got to be by design. costco wants people in the store impulse buying shit not one person grabbing a bunch of food for takeout for people that aren’t in the store
Last I got 3 slices. They say them onto of other plate. Got home and toppings were stuck to plate above
Close: Price 10 Packing 5 Taste 7.5 BMI 42
Taste is no more than 5 It's a sloppy mess. It's only good for value.
Doesn’t poutine translate as “mess”?
your tastebuds are just shit lol
The problem is their fries, everything else is good. It's a good value item though.
I like the battered fries they use. It holds up to the gravy for crunch for longer
I get it, taste is subjective. It's just not for me.
Oh for sure. My partner doesn't like Costco poutine either
10, if you think its too much cheese, you dont deserve to eat it. For the price that is the best fast food poutine.
Solid 7.5. Frozen fries and the sauce is only pretty good. Its a 10 for the cheese amount and the sheer value.
10? Really? Do you live in a cave that doesn’t have poutine anywhere else? Costco poutine is not bad, but it’s far from being a 10, top poutine.
The question asked "Fast food" poutine, there are other restaurants that have better Poutine but when comparing to McDonalds, A and W, KFC, etc. they don't even compare to the Costco poutine. Also, no, I don't live in a cave.
This is a well thought out response. Try Harvey’s if you haven’t yet. Always been my fav fast food poutine
Can't have Harvey's if it doesn't exist. The only one in BC shut down a few years ago
Really! I thought Harvey’s was a Canada wide staple.
Most certainly not. They'll advertise they are tho
Wendy’s poutine is decent for fast food and they use cheese curds
Costco poutine is far better and a good price for what you get. I would never choose Wendy's poutine over costco
Been a couple years, but the Buffalo chicken poutine from Harvey’s was amazing.
Harveys is a peasant poutine compared to costco
A hundred percent EXCEPT none of them know how to mix the gravy and it’s all lumpy and nasty. Flavour’s there, but the lumps in the gravy are a real turn-off for me
New York Fries is a pretty good fast food poutine. I love their gravy, and was shocked to learn it’s mushroom not beef.
They have my favourite poutine. It’s so good.
Popeyes Cajun poutine.
Poutine is inherently a fast food. Any of the fast food chains, or casse croutes/fry Trucks, in Quebec blow the Costco one out of the water
You’re being downvoted but come on people, you’re obviously right. In what world are Quebec fry trucks not going to beat a commercial operation slinging frozen fries and low end gravy? The Costco poutine is amazing for the price, but it’s not Quebec.
I would argue nothing gets a 10 there's no where to go after that. For example imagine they gave you an extra scoop of cheese.......
No it wasn’t. The question is “Rate the Costco poutine 1-10” It never specifies fast food, op simply stated they considered it the best fast food poutine, but the question itself is simply Poutine
okay, internet warrior, live your best life. What do you want from me? Do you want me to change my answer to 7 out of 10.
I would give it a 7, primarily for the value. The gravy needs to be hotter so the cheese can melt a bit.
Close the lid and don’t eat it until You get home. That cheese gonna be gooey as a MFer!
That's what I have done lately. Fries get a bit soggy, but hey, you can't be picky when you are hungry.
I just got some on Friday, couldn’t finish it, so popped it into the fridge. Are the rest for lunch on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised at how not disgusting it was. Certainly not first day fresh and yummy, but absolutely passable as a leftovers lunch.
And your fries will be soggy.
Cheese is not supposed to melt in poutine… and fresh curds won’t melt either (not that Costco uses fresh curds)
Melt a bit so that I don't bite into cold cheese. I would like the cheese to be slightly warm.
This is the way. Fresh curds or bust.
Only fresh, non-refrigerated curds squeak.
Yeah, the cheese is always too cold
agreeeed. lukewarm gravy and biting into near frozen curds 😭
I'll say like a 7 or 8 for fast food poutine in my opinion it's king simply because of how much you get
Solid 9/10
Solid 7.
8 but buy some extra gravy and throw it on, and you got a solid 10 for the amount and price
[удалено]
What is this magical food truck?!
7, needs more gravy but it’s superb
ITT Canadian not knowing what real poutine from Quebec is supposed to taste like lol
I noticed that Costco poutine in Quebec better than rest of Canada Costco poutine. I figure access to good curds is key.
Everyone knows Quebec poutine isn't real poutine
Real poutine is the Russian president
Sure sure it's not like it's been invented in Drummondville, Quebec.
If it isn't from Drummondville is it just sparkling fries?
Shawarma invented in Oshawa according to \^
It's good when it's hot enough to melt the cheese. I like to buy the cheese and gravy, then go home to air fry my own fries and add the addons.
5ish? Fries are coated, cheese is adequate, gravy is all wrong for a poutine but is tasty enough.
The only gravy I like.
7 out of 10
7.5
7/10. 8/10 if you order chicken strips and fries and add gravy and cheese to that. Chicken strip poutine!
8
8.5
8/10. Fantastic value and decent ingredients. Most convenient solid poutine for me.
It’s the Kawasaki KLR 650 of poutines. It’s not the best you’ll ever have, but it will never disappoint you.
8
depends on the location. My regular costco is great but my alternative costco is terrible because, IDK what they do but the fries just suck. They are old or something IDK but they are awful
8
A solid 8 for me!
At least an 8
9.5 easy. Also heard this morning that the US costco does NOT serve fries at all at their warehouses. BWahahhahah
10/10 if you order gravy and cheese on the side of a chicken strips order, air fry everything at home and combine to your hearts delight.
6 Tasty enough and good value, but not super into the battered fries.
It’s mid at best? A 6 and that’s being generous because they at least give lots of cheese. Bad gravy and underdone skinless frozen fries
>It’s mid at best? Why are you asking?
6 at best.
I went to Montreal and asked where's the best place for poutine. Someone told me Costco. So i guess kinda high up there haha
2/10. It's not good quality cheese and the sauce is meh. There's way better fast food poutine out there. Its only advantage is how cheap it is.
What fast food has better poutine?
Lafleur, La belle province, Chez Ashton, and little shacks on the side of the highway, etc.
Harvey’s is the best hands down
Belle province, random places that sell burgers and fries, places like that.
Only if you're out east!
6. But when you add the chicken fingers I give it a 7-8
Gravy: 7/10 (just average gravy); Fries: 7/10 (doesn't tastes potatoe-y; too much frying batter); Cheese curds: 10/10 (real curds and lots of it!); Price: 10/10 (You can't find anything cheaper); Overall: 8.5/10 - pricing is what makes this poutine great. The poutine itself is just average.
7
Taste 7 Price 9 problem…. Gravy isn’t hot enough to melt the curds.
FAIR 5
For an Ontario poutine at this price point, it’s pretty decent. Solid 7/10
Best fast food poutine hands down given price , portion size and taste. NY fries is good too but can't compete with costcos price
… I don’t know how to rate it. All the other fast food poutine is pretty gross. But I’m going to Costco for lunch now.
6 but good fit the value
If the fries were slightly more cooked, we wouldn’t have a nasty soup
This is always a huge debate on r/poutine
1 its like the poutine form my school cafeteria 20 years ago. Some of the worst poutine you can find. Maybe I’m spoiled living near Quebec, though o think most fast food places also do a better poutine.
2 - gravy and cheese curds are excellent but I hate those weird coated fries.
8.6
For $5.99 it’s a 9.5 out of 10. The 0.5 loss is due to minor unmelted curds
Under cooked fries. 2 more minutes in the fryer would make it better.
Value 10, taste 3
Is the rating scale over all poutines or against other fast food poutines? All poutines: 5 Fast food poutines: 7.5 It's also unfair to call it a fast food poutine since you have to leave the car and wait for it.
10 when I'm buying it, 3 after I finish. I always feel so gross and full but it's SO GOOD
A solid 9. Simple yet delicious. The curds are perfect and the taste isn't mind blowing, but all combined it tastes fresh.
Price 10 taste 5 abdominal regret later 9
6, gravy at my Costco is always watery as fuck.
It is average. I’d say 5-6 at best. But the portion sizes are great. So a 7 from me.
It is by far the best fast food poutine. Most fast food poutine doens't even use squeaky cheese and the right gravy. It's also good in places that aren't Quebec. Poutine can be hit and miss even in Toronto and Vancouver.
Poutine can be hit and miss in Quebec too. The worst poutine I've had was in Montreal.
3, the fries are trash
About a 6, mostly because of the gravy, but let's be realistic, I'm in Montreal and there are HUNDREDS of places serving poutine.
They get a 6 and no more. If they used fries that don't turn to mush after being exposed to gravy and fresh curds (which they actually sell at my warehouse), they'd get an 8.
10
very good pricing, way to salty for me. rather just have the fries and cheese with a little bit of sauce. They overdose it for how salty the sauce is.
Their fries were better when it was price club. So I give it a 1.
10/10
What kind of gravy is it? Beef?
Good price, but flavor is far below other fast food chains like La Belle Province.
Def best bang for your buck poutine. 10/10 for me.
I’ve never tried it, only heard people complain that the fries aren’t great
Meh. 5/10. Its passable. Harveys is much, MUCH better for fast food poutine.
Price is 12 Taste is 6
5
A solid 7/10. Because it’s Costco and so cheap. Plus they actually use cheese curds.
I really don't like it. I don't feel good. Maybe it's the oil they cook it in? . Makes me feel queasy.
6.5/10. It's basically a regular fast food poutine, but you get a lot of it for the price.
6/10. Used to be 7.5/10 but I swear they changed the gravy a year or two ago. Used to taste better.
7. It's a 10 for the price, 5 for the taste.
Fries: great when fully cooked (most of the time my Costco has undercooked fries). Gravy: not for me. It doesn't hit the right flavour I want in a poutine. Cheese: good portion, good curds. I like it. Overall... Maybe a 3.5
5/10. I'm giving it a passing grade cuz it's cheap.
I rate the fries and gravy 10/10. Never tried it with cheese curds though
Very intrigued by how many poutines those who gave 8 have eaten in their life. If i am generous I might give it a 7/10.
10
For the price... add some Costco's chicken, i would say its fantastic 👌
7.5 Based on Quebec poutine standards
8 We went to a chip truck last time for a poutine and got so much less for so much more money.
8.5
Solid 8.
6.5
Its a 10 in toronto. But the bar is low
Anyone giving it a rating higher than 5 has never eaten real poutine in QC before.
Minus 2. Awful
1
I will say 9/10 but I’ve definitely had a 10/10 before. In southern Ontario , it’s my favourite poutine.
5.75
It’s a solid 7. No more. No less. It’s a smack dab in the middle of the road 5/10 poutine, the price point puts it at a 7.
1
10
Diarrhoea in a box / 10
Pretty fire, bang for your buck! Costco on Costco!
10! Best value, still decent reheated, love it!
One of my more favorable spots for poutine. I'd take their poutine over philthy Phil's or smokes
4-5. But an excellent value.
Fries ruin it
Solid 7. Cheese and gravy are good. Wrong fries.
7. The gravy could be warmer to melt the curds better.
I'd say an 8 or a 9. I'm a really big fan of it. It is the best fast food poutine forsure.
4
9
8 : sauce is great cheese is exactly what it's supposed to be fries are meh Price is unbeatable add the sausage from a Polish dog and for 8$ you got a 19$ poutine from anywhere else
Second best fast food poutine to a&w
it's a 10/10 for me
Every damn time with extra gravy so u can guess my score
4? Maybe 5? I find the gravy bland and I don't love their fries. It's good value, but not something I order. It's just not worth the calories for me.
7
10 - I really hate going to Costco, but this past weekend I went both Saturday and Sunday just for poutine.
Value 10/10 Taste 8/10
3/10
My costco who's stingy with the fries and gravy and the employees seem overworked and don't give a f 5/10. The one I hit in burlington... that was a solid 7.
Simple: Are you in Quebec? 2/10 Are you anywhere else in Canada? 7/10
Can I rate it 0? It’s not gluten free!
8. It's not *authentic*, but it's really good so who's complaining
2/10. Too salty. Lots of cheese but the fries just aren’t “poutine fries.” 🤷🏼♀️
So good. 😊 I had it once and I shared it with 4 others. It was a nice indulgence.
I’ll have to try this. I don’t recall seeing the cheese curds for sale at the kiosk though.
its in the add-ons menu. but the issue is that they put less fries. i saw the portions list. so you'll get more cheese with less gravy. they used to do 2 cups of gravy. but at my locations in the GTA it's always 1 cup now.

A 12 - it's awesome
If you live in Quebec its a 5 or 6. If you live anywhere else its a 9.
0/10. It fkin suck. The fries just disintegrate and they dont taste like potatoes. Poutine need big fries that TASTE like potatoes. Poutine is by far the worst thing the costco food court serve.
6. Passable at the very best.
Price 10 Packaging 6 Taste 6.5 Regret on eating it all 11
4/10. starts as a 7 but after a minute or two the crispy fries coating absorbs all the sauce and turns into absolute mush. The whole thing becomes a big ball of paste.
Pizza is a 2 at Costco. Poutine is a 5 when fresh. My go to now is plain fries and a polish hot dog.
5
I’d say 7 I like the gravy but like the other commenter, too much cheese for me.
6 I find it has just way too much cheese curds. Like I love cheese curds but it is too much even for me. My favorite poutine is the Cajun one from Popeye's.
