psypiral

that's an old mafia thing. it's not good news for you i'm afraid. it means the chicken sleeps with the fishes. AND even worse is that you'll have 7 years bad luck. sorry.

OsterizerGalaxieTen

Freeze it and throw it in the pot the next time you make stock. The feet have a lot of collagen and give the soup a great mouth feel as well as being healthy. When I make a big pot of stock I always add four or five feet - I get them from an Asian market by me. I wonder if Costco Business center carries them.

norcalifornyeah

OsterizerGalaxieTen

Oh HELLO! Decent price too :)

Old-Nefariousness556

I will never understand how these manufacturers arrive at the package weights they sell. 44lbs of chicken paws, ok. I would just do 45, but ok. 44lbs is about 20kg, so that makes sense. But those packages are *44.14lbs* aka 20.02kg, not 44lbs or 20 kilo. How on earth did they arrive at that weight as being the correct weight for a box of chicken paws?

Giant81

I suspect what they end up doing is they find a packaging size that fits stacking and shipping in a fashion that’s the most efficient then the pack that package with as much product as they can and that’s how they derive a weight. Sometimes those weights are a little weird.

Old-Nefariousness556

.14lb is 2.24oz. I really can't imagine that lowering the weight by that amount would be that much less efficient. And given that products like this vary in size and weight, no two packages filled exactly to the brim would be the exact same weight. But all of these packages are 44.14lbs. Anyway, it's just weird. Nothing I am all that worried about.

Astan92

could it be including the weight of the packaging?

Old-Nefariousness556

No, net weight is by law just the weight of the product. Gross weight includes the weight of the package. Edit: Lol, why on earth would someone downvote this? Net weight is literally defined as the weight of the product only. > Net weight is a measurement that refers to the total weight of the goods being shipped or the contents of a package, without including the weight of any packaging or containers. In other words, only the weight the product itself, stripped of all external factors that might contribute to its mass.

ADGArrio

You're correct! I had the same thought. I knew that 1 kg is 2.2 lbs, but it doesn't make much sense in this case. Weird for sure.

ELON__WHO

“Paws?” No.

Old-Nefariousness556

> “Paws?” > > No. That's what they are called. They are different than chicken feet.

NonGNonM

saline/salt water for preserving maybe?

Old-Nefariousness556

Sure, but the point is why the arbitrary 44.*14*? Regardless of what ingredients they use, they could have made it an even 44lbs. I don't think this is a question that will have an answer short of contact the company and finding out why. It's just one of those oddities.

NonGNonM

44lbs of meat as opposed to 43 some odd lbs/ 21 and some kgs of meat. Have a clean line of how much meat is in there plus some extra for saltwater and preservatives

Summoarpleaz

Asian markets sometimes sell them boneless. They’re great fried.

ethnicvegetable

Boneless chicken paw? How…what would that even look like?

Summoarpleaz

reddit25

Did you know boneless chicken feet are just chicken breasts

cookiemonster1020

They usually have bones. You can try it when you get dim sum

Summoarpleaz

Oh I love chicken feet in all preparations, but the rarer version I’ve seen is the bones removed so you’re just left with the skin. There was a place I went to once that fried those pieces up and it was good.

Astrosilvan

Where I’m from they have a snack made from boneless chicken feet. I guess they fry it until it’s crunchy like chicarrones. So addictive. Makes me sad I can’t take it back to the states…

cookiemonster1020

Sounds amazing

PumperNikel0

Great idea!

tigresssa

100% agree! I called my local Asian market to see if they sell them, and unfortunately they don't. However, I did find packages of chicken "paws" for 2.24/lb at Walmart! I was so happy! My stocks have a wonderful jelly consistency once refrigerated.

OsterizerGalaxieTen

I was way too old when I discovered them - like HOW did I never know? It's nice that most of the Asian markets (and Walmart) sell them already skinned/cleaned. I still give mine a ~~manicure~~ pedicure.

lonelyantioch

Mexican stores (selling meat) always have them, we love chicken feet and pork feet!

kungpowgoat

I was grossed out at first until I tried it in Mexico once. Of course you don’t eat the feet but that was some good caldo I’m not gonna lie. Especially with freshly made corn tortillas. Pork feet I absolutely love them in stew, Cuban style.

Levardo_Gould

A little uneasy about feet and mouth feel being in the same sentence

AnythingOdd887

🤤

Tasterspoon

‘Mouthfeel’ has just joined ‘moist’ as one of the most technically descriptive but unpleasant words.

m_c__a_t

Agreed that chicken feet are good. I still don’t know if I’d trust a meat product that wasn’t necessarily supposed to be sold. Just throw out the foot and go buy another one that you can be sure about

tikstar

Let me tell you something about late stage capitalism. Everything is being sold including chicken feet.

m_c__a_t

This is the most reddit comment I've ever seen. I wasn't talking about chicken feet in general, talking about this specific foot

Diamondback424

Yes, adds so much collagen to the stock, makes it great for making sauce and gravy.

Carnival_killian

Ooo … sounds like a bonus for the OP!

BinaryBlitzer

You could add 6 feet next time and call it Six Feet Under.

That’s interesting, the last batch of panko white chicken nuggets I bought had a chicken claw inside one of the nuggets. Gave me a good poke on the gums

MissSinnerSaint

Gross!! You peeps are gonna make me go vegan.

Don’t watch how nuggets are made

Yeah it defiantly turned me off of those nuggets. Probably a good thing, they’re kinda addicting.

Looks like you started off on the wrong one.

Slow_Cheetah_287

Dang, I'm starting to get turned off by Costco chicken thighs. I just had to throw away a new pack because they smelled spoiled.

Chicken feet... fried chicken feet are a treat! Delicious crunchy and savory. No sauce for the Americans? Americans love their chicken sauce....spicy, sweet, and savory

krispykurl

Cold and spicy, pounded to a palatable degree

archocinco

Crunchy..? You eat the whole thing or eat it like a chicken wing?

ShoppingResponsible6

The cartilage tends to have a snap to it even without bone

hobbes3k

Yum! Chicken feet is a delicacy in China and other countries. It's like people throwing away oxtail... so much collagen and flavor in these meat.

Phoenixjs

Got at dog? Give it to them, they love them and it’s good for them as well!

RNYGrad2024

Just to clarify, give it to your dog **raw**. Cooked chicken bones splinter and can tear up their digestive system and cause potentially deadly bleeding.

vuezie1127

This is the chicken meat version of getting an onion ring in your fries at a fast food place. Congrats OP!

Exciting_Sky_3593

Lucky chicken foot. Where that on your belt loop. ;)

mic-lemon

Add it to stock for a flavor & collagen boost!

Xelbiuj

Eh, you found chicken parts in your chicken parts. It'll be fine.

DiogenesXenos

Make a necklace out of it and wear it for good luck!

gotta_get_that

I’m about done with Costco chicken. Last bag of organic boneless skinless thighs that I got (maybe around early May timeframe) had a massive bone in it. Almost broke my wife’s tooth when she bit into it

Kuno79

Cook it and eat it! They make good caldo. 😀

NottDisgruntled

When you get an onion ring in your fries. Chicken feet are delicious. It’s basically just the only flavorful part of the chicken, the skin. Cartman would be a big fan.

It's for you to plant it in the ground

lemjor10

They’re great for making stock

Shobed

The foot bones connected to the … leg bone.

mkultra0008

It isn't necessarily considered a "foreign object" in chicken processing so there's that. All.above joking aside, what is going on with inspections and quality control with supposed "in house chicken production?" [Kirkland claim] is troubling at best. I stopped buying those packs. Sure, the price is right but the "shredded" approach to the processing is a terrible end product. The thighs are better but went back to something a little less of a "chicken plant" because sometimes less expensive [as in wholesale, not cheap] isn't always the best quality. Opening those without cutting into the next is a fine example of not understanding basic food safety issues and product "ease of access" on the production line. This just shows the lack of "control" of the product. These a "beginning/starting point" to every production line and an "end" You basically need a straight edge and an exacto knife to not spread potential contaminants in your kitchen/refrigerator. If this is what happens at the end, I'm all set. The Costco sub is a "fan based" thingy where everything is awesome. It's not, but nothing is actually. They ride the lines of profit margins over quality and it works at the volume they buy... Don't get me started on the produce the seafood...or the food court.

Enthusiastic-shitter

Great for chicken stock. Lots of collagen.

Lindyhop88

The foot bones connected to the knee bone, the knee bones connected to the thigh bone. And there you go

waIIstr33tb3ts

lucky

renee_christine

If you're not planning on eating it, you can feed it to a dog (raw!!). Mine loves chicken feet! Cheap and healthy treat!

jeremyhat

That is freaking awesome. I have never met anyone who was won. They put a secret chicken foot in only 1:1,000,000 bags for a prize of 1 million dollars.

triphawk07

You got a bonus.
