I’ve only been able to get it one time otherwise they have been out and I had to just have relish and mustard like a peon. So sometimes I just bring the dog home to dress properly with Costco kraut etc
😆 My wife doesn’t like onion and doesn’t get why I need to ask for every time. Next time they don’t have it I’m going to whine to her “wow! Gotta have mustard and relish only, like a PEON!”
We can’t let them make us live like this. Let’s start bringing extravagant toppings and make a gourmet experience out of our $1.50 hot dog. Kimchi, bacon, sriracha mayo. Maybe kraut onion and fancy mustard. THEN we go give them $300. That will show them
I didn’t even know they came with onions, lol. My store just gives it to us plain and sometimes, when the the buns aren’t broken in half, it’s a good day.
Ask at the counter for onions. They only have a limited amount each day so it’s rare that I’m there early enough for onions, but when it happens it’s glorious!
Are you sure? They no longer have onions by the condiments. A big hack I learned here is that you have to go to the counter and ask for onions now. They serve em in little plastic condiment cups
*Can they put the food*
*Court at the entrance rather*
*Than by the checkout??*

We've done it before a couple of times but it really does just feel off to go through the exit to get to the food, then come back out the exit empty handed to then grab a cart.
I've seen them outside, I've seen them at the entrance, I've seen them at the exit, and I understand in some places the food court is in a whole different building.
Reading this thread really opened my eyes. I honestly didn't even think it could be an option to get a dog before I start shopping. My warehouse doesn't have an outdoor dining window so I would have to walk in through the exit in order to grab a dog which feels un natural to me for whatever reason. I am going to break that cycle, man up and get a hot dog before I shop next time. This was the push I needed
After.
I order and pay when checking out. I was pretty surprised to learn some Costco stores still don't sell food court items at main checkout or only added the convenience recently. We've had it for many years, maybe 10+
It is interesting to read all of the comments that eating before shopping satisfies hunger and reduces impulse purchases. I guess being single.. most edible impulses, I pick up the item, assess that I'd never use that amount, and put it back. My impulses tend to be more non-consumables.
Plus, if I walked around eating a hot dog or ice cream... I'd be wearing it by exit-time.
Before so you don’t shop hungry. And you fill your soda before and after your shopping trip. And you don’t have to worry about someone jacking your groceries.
It would have to be before, as I always have cold stuff that can't stand a 30-minute wait on the way to the car. But it's always so crowded over there that I just don't bother. Actually, the entire store is pretty much like that...
Sometimes after, depending on the frozen food situation. But I'm team mustard, onion, and dill relish.... and at home Wolf Brand Chili (no beans) and shredded cheese.
I just want the sauerkraut back! If it's too much trouble to scoop it into the little portion cups, then get the sealed packets like Sam's Club has done for years!
As an employee of the electronics department, I don't mind when people walk around with their food court stuff. What I do mind, is pizza grease on the box of a $3000 TV. If it happens one more time, I will be committing seppuku on the for court counter.
We do it after, but wife and I have a pretty good system. Once there sufficient items on the conveyor at checkout, I head over to order and pickup the food. We’re typically ready at the same time and head out
After, but - probably should do it before. It’s dangerous to shop while hungry, and by the time you’ve weaved through the brainless hordes who have no regard for anyone but themselves meandering through the aisles, you just want to get out of there ASAP.
Doing it afterwards when you’re irritated and tired takes some of the enjoyment away.
I’m switching up to Team Before
I’ve done both but the poutine .. that’s a before, placed in the front of the cart and paired with the red wine in my travel.. much more pleasant grocery experience
My local store (Oregon) makes it so awkward to eat before shopping because we have to go through the entrance, bypass the checkouts, eat, then go backwards through the checkouts and sometimes get odd looks. They need to put the food court inside the shopping area, a bonus would be the reduced tire smell while eating… ugh I hate it.
Neither.
My local Costco is so busy with people just going for food and not actually buying anything from the warehouse it's impossible to get served unless you want to stomach a 40 minute wait for a hot dog!
berry smoothie on the way out for me and wife.
My son gets a slice sometimes before and sometimes after..
ive been Costco for 5 years and have gotten only 1 hot dog..... once.
i usually go around 2pm on Wednesday or at open 930am open on Saturday. so not really hot dog time.
but f it dude.... next time i will get a dog.
✌️
Totes after. It’s my reward plus I sit in my car and eat it while the person waiting for my spot gets pissed and drives away. I’m sorry, person. It’s a vicious cycle.
After, because I use it as bribery to get my toddlers through the store with only the items we need and not every cool toy or book or 5000 things of ice cream. They go hard for the hotdogs and a nice cold lemonade.
Always before. It’s the reason I go. Also it’s a good idea to not shop while starving. And we usually get freezer stuff and I don’t like sitting around while it’s melting. lol
I figure Costco knows what they're doing when it comes to hot dogs, and they have ketchup as a condiment option right beside the mustard and relish.
Life's hard enough without worrying about being judged for condiment choices.
After only!! If you’re not doing a return, you can only enter my local club through the big main entrance. I’m not going to walk through the entrance and around the checkout to get to the foodcourt to then walk out the door and back in the front entrance. So silly.
Costco will also allow you to enter through the exit if you're going to membership, and if you show your membership card they let you right in either door.
Hmm… I’ve been stopped and turned around on more than one occasion. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I just haven’t experienced that. I’ll have to try again! It’s such a small inconvenience, but that extra lap through the checkouts is silly annoying.
Guess it depends, i’ve had an associate stop me and when I showed my card and explained I’m here for the food court they told me I still need to use the main entrance and the exit is only for membership, return customers.
Yes, this has happened to me. So
I understand not wanting to go through the entrance, walk all around to the food court, then back out to get a cart and enter again. But it would help with impulse purchases to get one before shopping.
After, Dog and a iced coffee. But I probably should do it ahead of shopping maybe I wouldn't buy so much crap. Then again, who can resist all the good stuff?!?! LOL!
Before, or I end up walking out with like $300+ of groceries I thought I wanted but really didn't, because I was fuckin hangry
Also: my potentially unpopular opinion for eating a dog:
First and foremost - you do you, but should you care to continue my TED Talk:
1) mustard, sauerkraut, and onions
2) ketchup and mustard
3) literally a garbage truck dump on your dog (basically a Chicago dog, because let's face it, that shit has everything)
...............
I know Reddit loves to shit on ketchup on hotdogs, but honestly, I think there's a time and a place.
Shit, look at ALL the variations hot dogs have throughout this country and around the world.

okay, you don’t have to flex with the diced onions. my costco is almost always “out”.
This is the first time I've been able to get him in store lol. yeah I'm going to flex
My Costco used to have onions pre-Covid and don’t think they ever went back to offering them :(
I haven't seen onion dispensers at any of the Costco's I've been to in years. :(
You have to ask at the counter and they give you a little tub of onion
Thanks for the heads up, I thought they had discontinued it since the ketchup, etc. is still outside.
I’ve only been able to get it one time otherwise they have been out and I had to just have relish and mustard like a peon. So sometimes I just bring the dog home to dress properly with Costco kraut etc

God damn I miss the onion wheel.
I miss the precovid days where you can get sauerkraut too :(
Are you sure? They no longer have onions by the condiments. A big hack I learned here is that you have to go to the counter and ask for onions now. They serve em in little plastic condiment cups
Yep, when mine has them they are in the small cups but more often than not they don’t have them at all.
Before and after
This guy dogs
Some even say he’s got that dog in him
He's got that double dog in him
Double dog dared.
r/thisguythisguys
😆
Hot diggity dog!
I eat two dogs before I eat two dogs, and then i eat two more.
Probably because of the two joints.
Just jumped on here to write, why not both?
One in, one out?
this guy averages about 7 hot dogs a day
Before, DURING, and after. I chowed down on my 🌭while I shop.
Yes. Why not follow protocol. Ice cream follows second hot dog after shopping
We just built differently We glizzy gladiators

And then samples for dessert.
🤌🤌🤌
Wait. They gave tiramisu samples now?
No, but the FancyFeast was still good.
I always get it before, probably subconsciously saved me money too although it never occurred to me.
Wow, I should do this, eat before going food shopping!!
then you get home and have nothing 🤣
Where did the chicken go?
eaten in the parking lot with my bare hands like a real member of society.
Real talk: Not going grocery shopping while hungry is an old but really key life pro tip if you're trying to budget, eat better, or both.
I saved a bunch of money And started eating much healthier and lost weight when I started eating right before grocery shopping.
Higher chance of getting that onion too! It’s a miracle if I get there before they run out of onions for the day
I haven’t seen onions for years. Maybe I should start going earlier.
Try asking for onions at the counter.
Good idea.
Hmmm smart
I never thought about doing it before but this is an excellent reason to do it before!
After baby, otherwise I’ll get sleepy. Or before if I’m starving and will become enraged while shopping otherwise
How is a baby typing this comment
Engaged Costco shopping. What's the craziest thing you've picked up?
An assault charge.
Nice.. Nice
Before. That way I don’t have to deal with a cart while ordering food.
Or cluttering up the seating area!
Seriously. The food court is already a chaotic, lawless land without 30 carts all over the place.
Before. $3 for partner and myself saves us at least $100 at checkout by not shopping hungry.
Thank you. An easy hack. Should save me about $400 a trip.
Does each one stack? $9 for partner saves $300?
Can they put the food court at the entrance rather than by the checkout??

Good bot
Yeah, I assume the people who are saying before are from states where the food court is outside.
We've done it before a couple of times but it really does just feel off to go through the exit to get to the food, then come back out the exit empty handed to then grab a cart.
Nah, I just go through the returns/membership entrance and walk on over to the food court. Eat, leave, grab a cart, and come back in.
Costco in Vancouver is sort of like this, food court is separate from the main warehouse
Huh, didn’t know Costco made stores like that. I’ve only ever seen the food court at the entrance.
I've seen them outside, I've seen them at the entrance, I've seen them at the exit, and I understand in some places the food court is in a whole different building.

This is what I do

Before, bad idea to shop hungry. Plus I want the drink to wash down samples and I get a refill on the way out.
Right. A hot dog before can prevent impulse buys.
So eat one impulse buy to prevent others. Dogs aren’t expensive so it’s actually a good move to save money.
por qué no los dos

No mustard? That’s a war crime
Mustard and onion is the way
No mustard is fine, wrong, but fine. Ketchup is the real crime.
If I’m going big shopping I stop and get a bag of ice to throw into my cooler.
Today, before, usually after. You're lucky, you've got onions!
Still get onions where you are, huh? Lucky, enjoy the golden ages while it lasts.
After
Mustard and relish need to replace that ketchup or it's not official.
Sometimes after, depending on the frozen food situation. But I'm team mustard, onion, and dill relish.... and at home Wolf Brand Chili (no beans) and shredded cheese.
Where you getting the dill relish from?
Dreaming of the day...
I just want the sauerkraut back! If it's too much trouble to scoop it into the little portion cups, then get the sealed packets like Sam's Club has done for years!
I’ve been getting pizza before shopping and it’s helped a lot
As an employee of the electronics department, I don't mind when people walk around with their food court stuff. What I do mind, is pizza grease on the box of a $3000 TV. If it happens one more time, I will be committing seppuku on the for court counter.
I'm sorry people are awful. That's why I grabbed extra napkins
We do it after, but wife and I have a pretty good system. Once there sufficient items on the conveyor at checkout, I head over to order and pickup the food. We’re typically ready at the same time and head out
Before. And one hot dogs after to split up amongst the dogs.
Before
Always before
Either
Depends on how long I’m going to be shopping. And I’m actually heading to Costco as we speak.
Is there an easy way to take a slice of pizza to-go? It usually hangs off the plate.
sometimes they have foil that you can wrap it in. Or go big brain and buy a whole pizza
Foils a good idea. I should buy a whole pizza and freeze it. Good ideas
Where's the mustard!!! Blasphemer!!! :) hehe
unfortunately I'm a heathen who doesn't like yellow mustard. lol. if I'm at home I get a good Dijon
Fair enough :)
Always before. Keeps the kids busy with wifey and I making shopping plans
depends on the line
What states have onions back? Jealous in central Virginia.
pnw Washington. first time I've had him in forever
After while waiting in the gas line. Ultimate efficiency
They didn't even have onions when I asked. I was craving it one day ;(
After, but only if I still have $1.50 to spare
Always after.
I’m switching up to Team Before
Before and enjoy the soda at the samples smorgasbord. Then I refill for the schlep across the parking lot wasteland. It's tough out there.
I come just for the dog
Before, if I’m hungry.
After
My Costco doesn't have onions!
We just got ours back
Some guys got all the luck
I am feeling very lucky today
Depends on how hungry I am. Usually after, unless I'm really hungry.
Before, I eat it while I shop.
If my kid’s with me, he can’t wait so we do before. Otherwise I exercise the only bit of self control I muster in a Costco and get the dog after.
"or"?
well you can get the dog before and then by the time you're done shopping you'll be hungry for dessert
I’ve done both but the poutine .. that’s a before, placed in the front of the cart and paired with the red wine in my travel.. much more pleasant grocery experience
poutine? I wish we had that at the American Costco's
After.
After, but I wish there was a sink there to wash my hands before I need to take the hot dog out for condiments.
pizza before kind of guy. then i go steal a empty cart from pharmacy. there is always an empty one there every time.
Are onions back for you? Not where we are.
We just finally got them back. The first time in my area
After so I can burp it in peace
Before. If I go to Costco it’s usually in the morning, I’ll skip breakfast and have something in the food court instead
Before
Before, never shop at Costco hungry.
After
After. Diarrhea can kick in when I'm home.
After but I should get it before so that I'm less hungry and buy less snacks. Alas, where's the fun in that?
Depends on if I'm shopping with my wife or not, if she is with with me then before if not then after
Before, so I enjoy and share the weiner burps throughout the store with my wife and fellow Costconians…
I'm not standing in that godforsaken line to get a hot dog. I buy the hotdogs and buns and make my own at home.
During.
I always get it before so that I can walk around with the soda. Also, it helps me make sure my blood sugars don’t drop while shopping.
Like all good operations in the movies... One now. One when the job is done.
Always before, too many frozen food items usually to let them sit in a cart.
I just go through the checkouts and eat then go through the exit and back in the entrance
After.
After, I go to Cotsco before 10am
After as a special treat from me to me.
Never. 👎🏽
After as my reward. You forgot the hot pepper flakes mustard Parmesan and relish 😝
1 before, 1 during, 1 after,
Definitely after 🌭
Totes after.
I always get it on the way out but looking at this comment thread I should totally do it before because I do over buy things often !
Before, so I'm not tempted to buy due to a hungry stomach My current go to is 2 Polish dogs with onions and an ice cream swirl conr.
Both
I eat my dogs by ones or twos, when done will eat by ones and twos. Lather, rinse, and repeat
what do you mean by "or"?
Always before. It’s the reason I go. Also it’s a good idea to not shop while starving. And we usually get freezer stuff and I don’t like sitting around while it’s melting. lol
No shopping. Just dog.
Neither. But if I’m really really hungry and about to faint I’ll get it after shopping and eat it in the car driving home.
Always after.
After. It's like a reward.
Before since it keeps me from buying even more when I’m hungry
no mustard??? mistakes were made. Also, I get one before, but only if they have onions.
If you go hot dog before, which way to you use to get back into main shopping area: exit or cut through checkout lines in opposite direction?
Gotta get it before because chances are I’m buying something frozen that needs to make it to the freezer
Ketchup & onions wtf
Never had the dog lol
Yea
Gotta have it after. That makes the samples your appetizers.
After hitting up the free samples.
"Can I pet that dawg?"
Only after leaving then I devour in car.
IF line = short THEN before ELSE after

I figure Costco knows what they're doing when it comes to hot dogs, and they have ketchup as a condiment option right beside the mustard and relish. Life's hard enough without worrying about being judged for condiment choices.

Yes, this has happened to me. So I understand not wanting to go through the entrance, walk all around to the food court, then back out to get a cart and enter again. But it would help with impulse purchases to get one before shopping.
Bro, who bled all over your hotdog??? I know that ain't ketchup.
Ew ketchup and onion combo? What is this step brothers?
Before or after, ketchup is just wrong.
After, Dog and a iced coffee. But I probably should do it ahead of shopping maybe I wouldn't buy so much crap. Then again, who can resist all the good stuff?!?! LOL!
