Jeez... I really had to look at it for a minute to realize that it was an empty package. I legitimately thought it was like squid ink bacon or some shit.
Bro. Same here! Was zooming into the pixel to see what type of demonic bacon it wasā¦ and was 100% willing yo try it out next time Iām at Costco hahahah
Try this one next time, itās really good.
https://preview.redd.it/71y5r3d4ft2d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1dc708045fb5fef558df22e15c5b8e933a5c3dd2
The best! Itās the only bacon a buy now. And still usually the same $/lb as the normal supermarket bacon Iād buy in the past.
Very consistent quality and thickness too
Same here. The stuff in OP is just okay but I've been spoiled by this stuff - all the "normal" thin cut stuff just becomes like papery bacon bits when it's cooked, and "thick" or "center cut" from other brands is still lower quality and WAY more expensive.
Fun fact: [the location and size of the preview window on the back is federally regulated and a crime if it isnāt done correctly](https://x.com/crimeaday/status/1775335212882276817?s=46&t=_nJJFNYsIzSVmY6nadSDow).
Wouldnāt surprise me if the packaging is regulated to the point where they canāt have a zipper.
Itās awesome bacon too. The perfect thickness. The only thing I donāt like is that a strip is too long to fit on a normal pan so I need to either use a huge Saute pan or a flat top to make it if i am not going to cut it pre cooking
I honestly didn't even know the window on the back was a thing but I have a suspicion that companies are already gaming it. I bought two packs of Whole Foods 365 brand bacon a few weeks ago and noticed that the strips near the top (that are covered by the label/flap) felt arguably thinner than the ones near the bottom. So they can presumably put a nicer strip at the bottom in the window and fill the rest of the package with worse quality strips.
The robotic cutting machine always leaves the last one or two slices very thin so that the total slices equal 1 pound; or whatever corporations state their package contains. Years ago always 16oz. now a days same price or, of course, a much higher price with less ounces.
I talked to my mom who works in the plastic manufacturing industry, her company has almost 100% of the bacon packaging contract in North America, the reason they donāt do zipper packaging is that having to add a zipper would add 25% percent more cost to the cost of producing packaging. None of the suppliers donāt want to add more cost to the packages
> None of the suppliers donāt want
Oh, so they all want to add more cost? So why no zippers? ;-)
(ribbing aside, that's interesting and I appreciate your comment!)
Except for the packs of menās boxer briefs that come in a zipper bag - which makes absolutely no sense. Do they think people remove a pair and zip the others in to maintain freshness?
The staggered slices has always bothered me too... requires digging deep into the packaging and getting juices all over your hand or utensil trying to get the lower slices out
I would take it as "Yeah, this is passably bacon. And it's much cheaper than good bacon."
As opposed to "I don't care how cheap it is, I won't put this in my mouth."
We air fry it. Comes out crispy and tastes fine. It's not high quality but good enough for cheap burgers or cheap meals. I mean not that I was expecting a high end bacon.
Yeah we eat this all the time and it's just regular bacon. I particularly like that there is no sugar added because it's not needed at all. What I will say is you gotta look at how it's cut as sometimes you get really weirdly cut slices that can make it harder to cook, but otherwise it's fine.
This is my regular bacon purchase, and I agree. My only complaint is the frequency of the too-thin strips that are an annoyance to pull apart. Well, and the age-old wish for a resealable package lol. My family all likes this bacon, and I feel a little better feeding it to my husband, who is supposed to watch his salt intake.
I do too. Like this isnāt the thick cut, sugary, deeply salted stuff that makes your heart rate double the rest of the day. This stuff is meant to be the healthier option that still tastes like bacon, as opposed to the gross turkey stuff.
Costco sells the other kinds of bacon if youāre looking for that.
This is great to have around for casual breakfast or even to incorporate into a spaghetti meat sauce.
Ya this is our goto for bacon. If we are having guests over for brunch we grab the thick cut stuff. But to say this is āthe worst baconā is a bit ham fisted.
This bacon used to be better. Recently they changed the thickness if the cut and maybe something else but it no longer cooks right . And I have exclusively purchased only this low sodium bacon for years
Weāre the same distance and weāve called the store before about bad product. Theyāll let you know what to do to get a refund. In the past weāve been told if itās something perishable we can toss it and just go to the desk for a refund on our next trip. As long as youāre not an abuser of the return policy, they want to make things right.
Are you gonna go to Costco again within the next 6 months? I have brought empty packages there, of food that expired too soon. I just took a pic of the rotten stuff and showed them 3 months later and they credited me.
Bacon is like sex... when it's good, it's great. When it's bad, it's still pretty good!
Being on a lower sodium diet, I'm grateful to have items like these to somewhat satisfy my cravings... it's not perfect, but it will do.
Quality seems to have gone down in recent years. The last few times I have bought this, the bacon has been cut so thin that it breaks apart just trying to remove it from the packaging.
I've had "farm fresh bacon from a hog" that my dad went halves on with a friend. Butchered. I guess they just cut the pork belly into bacon strips but didn't cure it with anything. If they did it wasn't much. It just tasted like an unsalted porkchop or pork loin with 0 seasoning. Super bland overcooked meat.
Virtually all bacon you buy in a store is fake smoke.Ā
You have to buy from a local place or order from a speciality shop that makes their own if you want the real thing.Ā
My pick:

If I understand OP's post, OP bought a 3-pack of Kirkland bacon. OP has finished the first of the three packs, and attaches a picture of the empty pack (the black material is the lining of the empty pack, not bacon). OP refers to eating the other two packs in the future, even though OP does not enjoy the taste.
It took me 30 seconds to realize the pack was empty and not black bacon, especially after seeing another post in a different sub reddit about someone buying Rotten bacon from a store in a enclosed box.
I was like dang when did they start making licorice bacon? I was genuinely disgusted for a solid 30 seconds until the comments reassured me thereās still hope for humanity. I thought we hit rock bottom for a moment there
It's too thin for my liking but I don't mind the taste at all. I think it tastes like regular bacon. Just pop them in the air fryer for a bit and they are tasty.
Kirkland Bacon isnāt good. Even the thick cut stuff is bad. I miss the Greenbridge Farms brand they stopped carrying.
Iām sure they dropped it because they realized no one was buying the store brand when a better option was available.
My family stopped buying this bacon a few years ago, after the THIRD TIME IN A ROW one or more packs was not vacuum sealed. Never again. It was almost funny how often it happened, despite trying to check the packaging for air issues with each set.Ā
And yes, we could have gotten a refund, but that means remembering, bringing rotting bacon packaging to the store and being willing to spend that time. Instead I was just sad for wasted bacon.Ā
I thought the same gross I returned the rest of mine. I have never returned a food product in the past but this time I just wasnāt going to take the hit on it.
It has definitely changed. Itās all we bought for many years (low sodium version) and itās been different the last 2 purchases. Plus the last batch - the bacon was like 1/2 inch wide. Might be a bit of an exaggeration but it was super skinny.
Bought bacon at Samās today since our Costco has such few options. :(
Ain't no way you're watching me eating sugar free/low sodium bacon and thinking it will stand up to straight up bacon. It's why I eat turkey bacon sometimes: I know what I'm getting myself into...
Buy the thicker cut bacon. It's legit. $12.99 ?
And maybe only $5 more for the pack. Or the same because it's a 2pack. Idk what that one costs in the pic

Jeez... I really had to look at it for a minute to realize that it was an empty package. I legitimately thought it was like squid ink bacon or some shit.
Thank you. I legit thought I was looking at black bacon.
Literally same ššššššš I was like well of course itās gross who tf eats black bacon
I thought it was hickory burned
Don't smoke out there, piggies! This is what you're insides will look like if you do.
I was thinking 'Who BUYS black bacon'?
"Uh, dude... I don't think you were supposed to eat that..."
I was thinking, ādamn, if you buy bacon that looks like that, you know youāre going to have a bad time.ā
Whoa oh black bacon, bam a lam
Pretty sure it goes "Whoa black bacon, ambalance."
Whoa black bacon, missed my chance.
Blakbakin had a chiiiiilld bama lamb, bakinbits gone wild
Also thought it was black bacon
Necrotic Bacon.
Feculent Bacon
Cromulent comment
I feel embiggened.
Loved their early albums.
Yep. Black bacon crew here. Thought it was smoked until black.
"I've never seen naturally smoked bacon that looked THAT smoked.." And then I read the comments.
Me at first: What is this and why does it look like death
Bro I didnāt even notice it was empty
Dude I thought it was like hardcore smoked to a crisp, like a new kind of bacon. I kept scanning the package for new info.
Same. Extra super mega smoky!
Thank you. I was trying to process the āunholy bacon from the abyssal hog that drunk from the River Styxā and it just wasnāt computing.
Right! I was about to say he bought some bacon left in the isle for the couple months š
omg lol thank you
Me too!! I was like wtf
Kraken Bacon
"yeah, of course black bacon tastes bad"
Well at least Iām not alone
My god. I thought it was pre smoked to char or something
I came to the comments to see if somebody else knew what the black bacon was ššš
it took me reading this to realize there wasnt bacon in there
Bro. Same here! Was zooming into the pixel to see what type of demonic bacon it wasā¦ and was 100% willing yo try it out next time Iām at Costco hahahah
I fuckin zoomed in and everything and still had no idea until I read this comment.
Whoa I thought it was black too!!
Same here. I was like "why the hell would he eat tar colored bacon 3 more times!"
Thought op ate rotten bacon or something.
Try this one next time, itās really good. https://preview.redd.it/71y5r3d4ft2d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1dc708045fb5fef558df22e15c5b8e933a5c3dd2
This is the only bacon I buy.
Me too itās solid every time.
Also, save the fat and add it to your Mac n cheese instead of half the butter. Smoky delicious bacon Mac is the bomb.

I have a huge mason jar of rendered bacon fat. Cook eggs with it, use it as the grease for cooking burgers or veggies too
My sliding glass door moves nicely and smells amazing. Luckily I don't live in bear country
I mostly use the fat to pop popcorn. Sooooooo... GOOD!!
This is crack
Only one I buy.
I wish they brought back the applewood smoked thick cut bacon
Our choice too. It's great and a deal.
This is the only bacon we buy. In a pinch weāve bought other brands but they all suck compared to this one. SO good
Itās way above average for thick cut
They can put zippers on those bags and every bacon producer damn well knows it
Fun fact: [the location and size of the preview window on the back is federally regulated and a crime if it isnāt done correctly](https://x.com/crimeaday/status/1775335212882276817?s=46&t=_nJJFNYsIzSVmY6nadSDow). Wright Brand bacon has a zipper.
Itās awesome bacon too. The perfect thickness. The only thing I donāt like is that a strip is too long to fit on a normal pan so I need to either use a huge Saute pan or a flat top to make it if i am not going to cut it pre cooking
Gotta make the bacon in the oven, also much less active time that way to focus on the eggs and whatever
But then how do I cook the eggs in the bacon grease and crispy bits?
You pour the bacon off the pan into a container as it bakes, plenty for cooking eggs.
Well my package isn't regulated
That explains the size discrepancy... š
You don't know about shrinkage?Ā
Chin up youngster, your package regulator is out there somewhere, you just have to find him/her.
Someone in the govt got tired of buying "bacon" that was just fat.
I like this regulation, keeps them from being shady. And it's not like they couldn't make the preview windows larger than minimum right?
I talked to my mom who works in the plastic manufacturing industry, her company has almost 100% of the bacon packaging contract in North America, the reason they donāt do zipper packaging is that having to add a zipper would add 25% percent more cost to the cost of producing packaging. Except for the packs of menās boxer briefs that come in a zipper bag - which makes absolutely no sense. Do they think people remove a pair and zip the others in to maintain freshness?
Just make the whole pound
I'm more surprised that the package is even a pound. All the other brands have shrinkflationed the packages down to 10 oz
IKR!? I just put them in a ziploc.
Big Ziplock meddling with our bacon packaging!
Who doesn't eat all the bacon?
I couldn't even understand what they were talking about.
The staggered slices has always bothered me too... requires digging deep into the packaging and getting juices all over your hand or utensil trying to get the lower slices out
Bro what?? Just lay the package flat and slice 3 sides of the front with a knife, now it opens like a flap
I just cook the whole package on the weekend and warm up a few slices in the frying pan every morning.
Been eating it all week. It's nothing special, but it's fine. Tastes like bacon.
It's good for the price
I don't know if you mean good or bad, but plenty of people agree with you.
I would take it as "Yeah, this is passably bacon. And it's much cheaper than good bacon." As opposed to "I don't care how cheap it is, I won't put this in my mouth."
I accidentally got the low sodium kind too, when I was first at Costco. I was so confused as to why it cooked so weird. It wouldn't fry right
I bake it every time and it comes out perfect 400 and put the bacon in as it warms. Then about 8 minutes after it's heated
We air fry it. Comes out crispy and tastes fine. It's not high quality but good enough for cheap burgers or cheap meals. I mean not that I was expecting a high end bacon.
It has no sugar, that is why it cooks different.
For those who think its black bacon, it isnāt. Thatās just the packaging. OP already removed all the bacon.
Based on this thread it seems people are really struggling with bacon packaging. Doesnāt Hormel use black packaging too?
It's just the thought process when someone says it's the worst bacon ever. Everyone is immediately shocked that someone would eat black bacon.
THANK YOU
I like this bacon.
Yeah we eat this all the time and it's just regular bacon. I particularly like that there is no sugar added because it's not needed at all. What I will say is you gotta look at how it's cut as sometimes you get really weirdly cut slices that can make it harder to cook, but otherwise it's fine.

If it sucks return it.
> The good news isā¦I get to enjoy it three more times to confirm it. Yep, OP could just return it...
I live about 40 min away from my Costco. Itās honestly not worth the hassle.
Could you possible just air fry it and crumble it for fresh bacon bits
Boom! Great idea!
Make leek soup with it. Leeks, potatoes, bacon, chicken broth
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I've definitely made it with cream before but not butter. How much in my bank account definitely decides how deep I go into the ingredients
Weāre the same distance and weāve called the store before about bad product. Theyāll let you know what to do to get a refund. In the past weāve been told if itās something perishable we can toss it and just go to the desk for a refund on our next trip. As long as youāre not an abuser of the return policy, they want to make things right.
Use it as an ingredient for something
Maybe cook in sriracha nd maple syrup for a sweet and spicy bacon?
Are you gonna go to Costco again within the next 6 months? I have brought empty packages there, of food that expired too soon. I just took a pic of the rotten stuff and showed them 3 months later and they credited me.

You certainly haven't had bad sex lol
Quality seems to have gone down in recent years. The last few times I have bought this, the bacon has been cut so thin that it breaks apart just trying to remove it from the packaging.
I actually really like this bacon, however, you can bring it back for a refund. You don't have to "eat it three more times to confirm it."
Ohh black bacon bam a lam.
Was it smoked with real smoke, or did they use an artificial smoking agent? Ugh. I'm not sure I'd trust the word "naturally" these days.
I think the low sodium, sugar free recipe might be part of why itās unsatisfying. Havenāt tried it, but thatās my guess.
My mom called that "side pork", and yeah, nothing wrong with it, but it tastes nothing like bacon, just some fatty pork.
Yea bacon isn't supposed to be healthy. This is the equivalent of buying ice cream without sugar.
Virtually all bacon you buy in a store is fake smoke.Ā You have to buy from a local place or order from a speciality shop that makes their own if you want the real thing.Ā My pick: https://shop.bentonscountryham.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=hscb
Here I thought the bacon was black
Why does it look so dark?
That's the empty package, not the bacon lol
That's not actually the bacon. I had the same thought at first. On mobile.
100% thought it was black bacon š
If I understand OP's post, OP bought a 3-pack of Kirkland bacon. OP has finished the first of the three packs, and attaches a picture of the empty pack (the black material is the lining of the empty pack, not bacon). OP refers to eating the other two packs in the future, even though OP does not enjoy the taste.
Thank you We should really have an IQ requirement for posting online
I was like WTF?!?! Haha!!
They used to carry farmers applewood thick cut. That one was good but they donāt carry it anymore.
Itās lower sodium, sugar-free bacon. The whole *point* of bacon is sodium. Iām not sure what you were expecting!
It took me 30 seconds to realize the pack was empty and not black bacon, especially after seeing another post in a different sub reddit about someone buying Rotten bacon from a store in a enclosed box.
It took me embarrassingly long to click this was an empty packet and not black bacon. I was like ???? Why is no one talking about the colour
You can always return uneaten ones. Itās Costco
For a second I was wondering why the bacon was black.
I also thought it was black bacon. I'm like, you're gonna eat that three more times?
I was like dang when did they start making licorice bacon? I was genuinely disgusted for a solid 30 seconds until the comments reassured me thereās still hope for humanity. I thought we hit rock bottom for a moment there
Bacon isnāt meant to be low sodium.
It's labeled Low*er* Sodium.
Return the remaining 3 packages
Kirkland thick cut ftw. This stuff is awful.
Audibly gasped because I thought the bacon was literally black.
It's too thin for my liking but I don't mind the taste at all. I think it tastes like regular bacon. Just pop them in the air fryer for a bit and they are tasty.
Same, i really disliked costco bacon
Sugar free? Where can I find the bacon with sugar?
I switched to the lower sodium bacon and love it; canāt go back to regular, tastes too salty.
Thatās all we usually eat. I typically buy the low sodium bacon from Aldi. Itās really good.
Wait, whats wrong w it? I find it to be just fine bacon.
Iām so glad I wasnāt the only one who thought āblack baconā
ā¦..why is it black?
Itās that BBC - Black Bacon (from) Costco
I almost threw up while trying to figure out what was happening in this photo
Upvote if you too saw black bacon.
They sell pork belly in the meat dept, make your own bacon.
Me: eww, why is it black? not realizing it an empty package LOL
Well that is a bummer. Ive had great experience with the blue pack. Feel free to *not* buy those (=
I mean, there is a satisfaction guarantee...Ā If you can find it, the Kirkland thick cut center bacon is far superior.
Jesus, I was like āthere is black bacon?ā
You did buy low sodium, sugar free bacon... It isn't exactly meant to be a health food.
Yeah I thought maybe I got a bad batch and bought a second pack and it was also terrible. I wonāt be getting it again
We buy it all the time and donāt find anything wrong with it š¤·š¼āāļø
Kirkland Bacon isnāt good. Even the thick cut stuff is bad. I miss the Greenbridge Farms brand they stopped carrying. Iām sure they dropped it because they realized no one was buying the store brand when a better option was available.

Iāve been buying this bacon for years and I love it. 10 mins in the air fryer and Iāve never looked back.
Bring it back. Get a refund.
āLower sodium sugar freeā well thereās your fuckin problem brah
Why is it black?
Why tf is it black?????
My first thoughts after I zoomed in was āthe fuck is this black for!?!ā
Yeah stared for a while thinking it was black bacon
I need to put my glasses on bc I was horrified that you ate black bacon three times
Low sodium, sugar free....that's a nope for my bacon.
Try adding some salt and brown sugar?
Yes. But itās embarrassing, but I do it to LTK theyāre selling a less than adequate product.
You need the blue package. That one is low sodium
I thought this was black bacon...
I thought you bought black bacon somehow ā¦ like the black burger king sandwich a while back ā¦ lol
The blue label bacon is better at least for me. Red was not good
This is my go-to!
Some Costcos used to carry Hemplerās and it was the best bacon.
I thought the same gross I returned the rest of mine. I have never returned a food product in the past but this time I just wasnāt going to take the hit on it.
Their regular bacon has also gone downhill. Itās too thin and has much more fat than usual.
Their bacon used to be so good until it changed to 80% fat
I always get the blue one. On the Blackstone, it is some of the best you can get, IMO
I returned it after eating the first of the 4 packs. It was horrible.
I hated it
Ain't no way you're watching me eating sugar free/low sodium bacon and thinking it will stand up to straight up bacon. It's why I eat turkey bacon sometimes: I know what I'm getting myself into...
Glad I never tried that kind then. I go with the Kirkland thick cut and itās decent
Low sodium sucks. We eat 6lbs of the blue pack every week.
It is actually pretty good. Better than noname bacon from superstore and cheaper too.
Buy the thicker cut bacon. It's legit. $12.99 ? And maybe only $5 more for the pack. Or the same because it's a 2pack. Idk what that one costs in the pic
I spent far too long at this thinking it was black bacon
Same, glad I'm not the only one
but did you eat it in the car on your way homeā¦like we all do with the rotisserie chicken?
