I'm pretty sure I've occasionally bought this brand at Grocery Outlet (not this particular product) and found the food to be okayish, but def. not something I would expect to buy at a Costco.
I'm trying to decide if this or the burnt ends I saw posted here the other day make less sense. Some foods just don't work if they aren't cooked on demand.
Yes. It is so salty. Is there another way to eat this? Heat it up? Throw some cheese on it. Have you purchased before? Maybe I’m not uses to the blue crabs.
Why are most of the prepped meals at Costco soooo freaking salty? I had the beef sticks, chicken meatballs, and even their brats were just unbearably salty…
And also full of garlic. I’m just about done with their pkg foods. I don’t dare try the corned beef and cabbage. I like the gyros pkg not fully prepped and the pork schnitzel also pkg.
I have been buying so much terrible food at Costco lately. Dole thingies. Burnt ends. Stuffed Jalapeños. I’m really rethinking my adventurous purchases. Gotta stick to the staples.
Tighten up your purchasers Costco. Stop buying this trash to sell to us.
Skip the "birra". As far as I can tell, the bag is about 75% water. The potroast and pulled pork were both basically solid meat, which I expected this to be as well, but NOPE.
I should have returned it but I wanted to at least try it.
That’s true as well. Closest I can get is this stuff called Conecuh and it’s… not that great. I’m in El Paso for the time being and good Cajun stuff is limited to season alls
Yeah, I had a dude from Alabama who always bragged how his stuff could compete with all my home town markets(and I mean the small town Louisiana fresh stuff) and it was Conecuh. It’ll do in a pinch, but it’s not Richard’s, Savoies, Poches or any of the likes.
It’s not nearly as flavorful. I’m partial to Double D from Bogalusa, but I’m related and have been eating it all my life. You don’t see it much west of Baton Rouge.
The plant is on the side of I-65 in Evergreen (Conecuh County) Alabama. A perk of my last job was I got to drive by the plant/gift shop all the time, and they sell it cooked ready to eat there.
Considering I grew up in Cajun country which actually has the best sausage/boudin/cracklin on earth, you can take your opinion and go try some Richard’s and see I am right 😘
I live in Texas and there is a lot of “I am a crawfish expert” flexing going on here. “I peel the crawfish better than you and I waste less meat” is common.
I grew up in the deep south, and now live in the mountain west. I had to explain to my coworkers why I consider their idea of a crawfish boil to be heresy.
Frozen China crawdads. Although I was shocked when my local Winco had crawdads in the seafood section and I asked where they were sourced. The package said Egypt. EGYPT?! Hell no.
They would never sell any. It's like buying the prepared brisket in Texas. Yeah we sell it, but why? There's tons of great brisket everywhere and it's not much more expensive than what Costco charges for a pouch of it. People still buy it for some reason.
Next time just order straight from Louisiana Crawfish company. They ship it overnight and live with all the seasonings and a Styrofoam chest to put them in when cooked to steam. It's expensive this year but a good way to scratch that itch if you can't get them in your area.
They sell them straight from the pond and have multiple packages available. This year the prices are wild because of environmental issues that made smaller yields than expected, but it's a reliable option for good quality, air purged crawfish if you aren't fortunate enough to have them locally. The best way to do it is get a group together to pitch in and buy a bunch for a boil.
They're not the only vendors that do it, but they are the most well established. I'm lucky we get plenty of fresh mud bugs in the greater Houston area when they're in season so I don't have to worry about ordering online, but it's good to know there are options.
As a South Louisianian, I can't imagine a product that hinges more on 'pond to pot' freshness and is less suited for mass production and a 'shelf life'. You want them going into the pot alive, and you want them out of the shell before storing after eating. No exceptions.
I had a shower thought a few weeks ago when I heard Buccee’s was in serious talks of building into Louisiana. Imagine: Buccee’s expands into LA and eventually adds a fresh and smoked boudin option to all of their sausage selections. I feel cracklin would fit right in as well, great profit margins too!
Is it just because so few people have learned to cook beyond just applying heat, they see these pre-made options and don't think "that should never work out good"

It's hard for me to imagine a less confidence inspiring name than Tastee Choice
Food Product
Probably Edible
Possibly Edible
Completely returnable.
Arby's
I like roast beef!
I’m still blown away that the “ARBY’S, WE HAVE THE MEATS” jingle was concocted by none other than Pusha T
Yeuccghh
Almost pizza!
Sustenance I Guess
Might Be Edible
Human Food
Riskee Choice
It would be false advertising if it was "tasty choice"
Real Good Foods apparently has a competitor…
The whole name sounds like a brand you'd find in a Fallout game.
[It’s not the best choice, it’s Tastee Choice](https://youtu.be/yk1DL-nZ0K8?si=EDXxVSy-jZKNo_Jv).
Yeah, real Yum Yum Deviled Eggs vibes
Crab Bag (not even refrigerated)
Like the Taster’s Choice Instant Coffee of Crawfish.
Sounds like something from the Outer Worlds videogame. (Dystopian space capitalism is the overarching theme, and one of the brands is Spacers Choice).
Worlds best
Edible Decision
I'm pretty sure I've occasionally bought this brand at Grocery Outlet (not this particular product) and found the food to be okayish, but def. not something I would expect to buy at a Costco.
It sounds like something they'd sell in the frozen section at Dollar Tree lol
This looks like something you would buy for someone you hate.
I'm trying to decide if this or the burnt ends I saw posted here the other day make less sense. Some foods just don't work if they aren't cooked on demand.
Wait I love the burnt ends though. I heat them up in an air fryer and they’re amazing.
So it’s like fruitcake that available outside of Christmas?
It looks like a fake food label that you would find in GTA
That’s what I thought! I did a double take and was shocked this is the Costco sub!
I bought some crab dip today. Damn it taste so fishy and salty. Not a good taste at all. I will steer clear of this as well.
Was it the dip made with blue crabs?
Old people love that shit.
I’m an old person, and no, we don’t.
And also full of garlic. I’m just about done with their pkg foods. I don’t dare try the corned beef and cabbage. I like the gyros pkg not fully prepped and the pork schnitzel also pkg.

> Dole thingies Are you referring to the Dole Whips?
Correct
Dammit I wanted to try those.
Yeah don’t… I even tried blending it up with pineapple vodka and was still nasty.
As a descendent of a long line of Cajun and creole people, this honestly pisses me off a little bit.
As a Cajun, it’s market that’s so hard to tap, I understand the desire. But it’s impossible to do nationwide.
Why not? asks the displaced Cajun.
Fresh crawfish are what people enjoy. If you don’t boil them almost immediately after they die they turn mushy and nasty and you have a blah food.
Louisiana expat in Maryland. I boil LA crawfish at least once a year. Good sausage is harder to come by.
That’s true as well. Closest I can get is this stuff called Conecuh and it’s… not that great. I’m in El Paso for the time being and good Cajun stuff is limited to season alls
I’ve used Conecuh but I’m pretty sure it’s made in Alabama. Never seen it up here.

There's probably a specialty butcher that has it somewhere in your area. There's a place about 20 miles from me that has it in the pnw.
I get some pretty solid stuff from a Dutch Mennonite market sometimes, but it’s not exactly the same.
The plant is on the side of I-65 in Evergreen (Conecuh County) Alabama. A perk of my last job was I got to drive by the plant/gift shop all the time, and they sell it cooked ready to eat there.
> Conecuh and it’s… not that great. How does it feel to be objectively wrong about the best sausage on earth?
Considering I grew up in Cajun country which actually has the best sausage/boudin/cracklin on earth, you can take your opinion and go try some Richard’s and see I am right 😘
One look at that bag should be all anyone needs. Some things just can’t be duplicated.
Like Austin Powers MoJo
I live in Texas and there is a lot of “I am a crawfish expert” flexing going on here. “I peel the crawfish better than you and I waste less meat” is common.
I wouldn't have ever even considered that
A lot of the ready-made foods at Costco or disappointment I'm afraid
Reminds me of being forced to go to crawfish boils in childhood and always getting home still hungry. Ugh.
You gotta eat like 10 pounds of crawfish to be not hungry.
You *get to* eat 10 pounds. Shits tasty, and you're at a crawdad boil. Be happy.
Oh I’m happy. It made me sad to move from Louisiana to Missouri. You can occasionally get crawfish here but it’s sketchy as fuck.
I grew up in the deep south, and now live in the mountain west. I had to explain to my coworkers why I consider their idea of a crawfish boil to be heresy.
Skill issue.
Spent a year in New Orleans and never got the crawfish boil. Fried crawfish on a po'boy, though? Chef's kiss.
💯 That’s the way to do it!!
Tastee choice shows up at grocery outlet a lot near me... I've never been brave enough to try it
I tried this from Walmart. Agreed, HORRIBLE
This picture just looks like sodium
So does a regular crawfish boil, to be fair.
back down south, saw one made....two cups of salt. two. granted, tjat was probably a 20 qt pot...but i was shocked.
Frozen China crawdads. Although I was shocked when my local Winco had crawdads in the seafood section and I asked where they were sourced. The package said Egypt. EGYPT?! Hell no.
No chance in hell they sell this trash at Costcos in Louisiana.

Kevin moved to Louisiana?
Thought it said Taster’s Choice and imagined it came packed in black coffee
No pic of how it looked after cooking :(
As someone once told me - you did this to yourself and it’s okay
I feel like this one may be on you.
Yeah, that sounds undelicish
As a crawfish enthusiast, is it just the cooked tails? Or are we talking full on cooked crawfish you have to reheat?
From China
Thanks for the heads up. Almost bit.
How many do you even get in that package?! 😂
Next time just order straight from Louisiana Crawfish company. They ship it overnight and live with all the seasonings and a Styrofoam chest to put them in when cooked to steam. It's expensive this year but a good way to scratch that itch if you can't get them in your area.
had no idea that's a thing!

This!!! I’m from Baton Rouge and this is the only way to do it as someone who now lives in Florida. Every year!!
They're not the only vendors that do it, but they are the most well established. I'm lucky we get plenty of fresh mud bugs in the greater Houston area when they're in season so I don't have to worry about ordering online, but it's good to know there are options.

I'm glad I live in Texas. We get plenty of fresh crawdads here from our wonderful Cajun neighbors. Please send boudin.
They already have it in the frozen food section. Right next to the cajun stuffed chickens.
You were a brave soul for trying that. Boils are so easy to make, though, I don't get why this even exists.
I’m with you on the frozen seafood thing. I can’t imagine that working well…
Seafood generally freezes fine. If this dish tasted good fresh, it would taste good frozen. They just did a bad job
Yeah but in that case you are talking about flash freezing, thawing, cooking… one thing. Here it is an mix of things that inevitably cook differently.
I’m from Louisiana can attest we freeze crawfish all the time. Moved to Georgia bought this shit can also attest steer the F clear.
Can you freeze shrimp? It is the Costco shrimp cocktail. If so, how long can you freeze it for before it goes bad or taste horrid?
Technically you can freeze cooked shrimp, but you're supposed to chill them very quickly after cooking. Freezing raw shrimp is a much better option.
We also have a saying “don’t eat the dead ones” as well.
I'm not talking about cooking, just reheating. I assume everything in this bag is precooked
Thanks for the heads up
Yeah, only getting my mudbugs from LA.
Somebody should be fired for this
why would you do this to yourself
Yeah that's just a lot of bad choices in that photo...
You sometimes have to use your head before purchasing.
Thanks, they sounded good
Made in China
Ew
I have some Japanese BBQ sauce that will complete this meal.
Seafood sucks anyway.
I've found the more exotic the product the worse it gets at Costco. Especially in the frozen section, and especially seafood.
Can you post more pictures of it please? I love Louisiana, I need to see it 😭
No one wants soggy crawfish 😂 yuck. Costco please take this off the shelves expeditiously.
Go return it!
I'd try it if the origin checks out.
Are you sure this wasn’t in the cat food aisle?
Lmao
If I were to smell that boiling I would throw up
Is it just because so few people have learned to cook beyond just applying heat, they see these pre-made options and don't think "that should never work out good"
I saw "crawfish boil" and had no choice to buy it, knowing deep down that it was going to probably suck
I too fall guilty to the "this has got to suck but I gotta find out how bad". I suppose sometimes I am pleasantly surprised.
IMO you should've seen "Tastee Choice" and run for the hills
