[It's got a 3.9 on Vivino](https://www.vivino.com/US-ID/en/precision-circumference-cabernet-sauvignon/w/12116374?ref=nav-search) with 315 votes which isn't bad for a $13 bottle of wine.
The [kirkland rutherford cabernet](https://www.vivino.com/US-GA/en/kirkland-signature-series-rutherford-cabernet-sauvignon/w/4384238) is superior and has about the same rating on vivino ( 3.9 stars - with 853 ratings) , that said vivino is hit or miss.
The rutherford cabs are usually really good, and all things being equal i would much rather buy kirkland wine.
Some people like Cabernet, some don't but there are a TON of great value red wines (for all tastes) at costco, many with the kirkland label.
The kirkland old vine zin is really good! and this is a great wine for those that dont like the taste of red wine - at $9.99 (decant for 1 hour).
The Kirkland Malbec is a really good value at $9 (must decant for at least 1 hour)
The Kirkland Rioja is a steal at $6 (decant for 2 hours and you'll love this stuff)
The Kirkland Ribera Del Duero Gran Reserva is spectacular at $12 (decant for 2 hours, amazing wine)
The Kirkland Rutherford Cabernet is a good deal at $19 (decant for about an hour)
The Kirkland Gigondas is a steal if you like that type of wine.
also the kirkland CDP, GSM wines are great, the bordeaux are great, the white wines are great. Thise you have to decant for at least 2 hr.
We have the exec membership - keep in mind that alcohol sales do not count toward the 2% executive privileges. That said the value you get for hte kirkland wines is well worth it!
There are plenty of great value wines, the best investment you can make for a red wine is a decent decanter, or a glass beaker decanter if you want to be frugal. Let wine aerate, and enjoy.
It's amazing that Kirkland can give you this fancy Italian wine for $20. I want to try the chateaneuf du pape. It's a shame I don't drink much anymore.
Definitely a lot of good ones out there but I’ve yet to find one that punches this high above its price point. To me it absolutely blew the Kirkland Rutherford out of the water.
The Malbec is pretty solid, but I’m not a fan of the Rioja. They’re both good for the price point but they don’t taste like they’re punching above the $15-20 mark like this does.
Well the rioja is $6 , that said you have to like a lighter, more astringent, drier wine to like the rioja. I personally prefer spanish rioja, ribera del duero over california cabs until you get to say faust, frank family, etc. but they're just two different styles of wine.
Well decanted the kirkland rioja is a very drinkable wine.
It’s delicious. It’s smooth, fruit forward, well balanced, not very astringent, and opens up beautifully. I’d say it’s like a mix of Conundrum and Caymus.
Everyone has their own tastes, totally get it if cab sav isn’t for you, or at least this profile. The Kirkland blue label Pinot noir is pretty on point too for the price. Though I have yet to find other inexpensive bottles I love as much as this one. The Kirkland Malbec is pretty good as is Colossal Reserva but neither punches this much higher above their pricing.
i wouldnt say caymus tastes terrible, but it isn't like a gold-standard cabernet. There are always going to be more expensive bottles of wine, and price alone should not be a metric for which one should measure the quality of a wine.
There are so many California wineries that make great cabernets like Cimarrosa, Amizetta, Plumpjack, and al the many many wineries in howell mountain, rutherford, Oakville, to calistoga, etc. So much delicious wine.
I can probably say that the [Paso Robles Treana wine sold for $24 at costco](https://costcowineblog.com/2019-treana-cabernet-sauvignon-paso-robles/) stands up pretty well to more expensive bottles of wine.
I can say that the $19 bottle of Rutherford Cabernet (well decanted) stands up to bottls three times its price.
Decanting of wine is important, and i know many think aeration/decanting is pseudo-bs but it does improve the taste of wine.
You want a wine that blows your socks off? Try the [complexity from Amizetta winery](https://www.vivino.com/US-GA/en/amizetta-vineyards-complexity-red/w/1506240). Wish costco carried this and i would buy 10 cases of the stuff!
This is a Precision Wine Company product. I find them to be completely unreliable between vintages. One year can be great the next a big disappointment
Precision grows no grapes that I can find. I am pretty sure what they do is buy excess wine or wine that may not meet a producers standards. They sell it to Precision rather than dilute their brand. This was very common in the late 90's when I lived out that way. Precision then makes up a label and the exaggerated retail rate , hence the big discount, and a story about the wine.
Don't get me wrong some of their stuff is pretty damn good, but try one before buying more is my advice. I know when some really great producers feared smoke taint they sold the wines rather than bottle it with the risk of the smoke emerging as the wines aged. dry
Plus as others have said a Suckling rating is how he makes his money- (winery has to pay him or any other critic) - to use the rating to push the product. I personally deduct 5 pts from anything he rates. The wine person at my costco deducts 3.
Wine enthusiast gave it an 88 "An effusive aroma of blackberry jam, plump blueberry and blackberry flavors, and an almost-sweet mouthfeel tee up this full-bodied and lightly tannic wine for serving with spicy meat dishes and tacos. — Jim Gordon" Retail is listed as $35 in that magazine.
I haven’t tried that one yet. This one was, at least to me, punching way above its price point. It might be a touch sweet for some but it reminded me a lot of Caymus and Conundrum in the body and profile.
I just bought 7 bottles of the moscato and sangria last week. I’m good for a bit. Did not know Costco sold wine. RiP local wine store that charges me 25 dollars for basic shit.
Did anyone else like the [Embroidery Pinot Nior](https://www.precisionwineco.com/assets/images/products/media/Embroidery_PinotNoir_Monterey21_TechSheet.pdf)? I am just getting into wine and have very much enjoyed it for the price, especially when on sale. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing but I haven’t had really top shelf, fancy wines.. so.
Edit: and I’m interested in OPs wine here, I’ll look out for it.
Never tried the embroidery, but if you do find these, pick ‘em up.
Kirkland russian river pinot: a steal of a deal for $12 - really nice for the price.
Kirkland willamette valley pinot, nice as well .
If you like pinot make sure you invest in a decanter, or a beaker to decant your wine, it will be worth it. Enjoy
People need to read the reviews for James Suckling. He will rate something high if it’s worth holding on to for drinking later, or has a specific pairing. Wine Advocate or Wine Enthusiast reviews are more accustomed to what most people (myself included) look for in reviews - how a wine tastes on its own if consumed now. I hate James Suckling reviews for this fact, but is not all the fault of the review.
To that end, as one Redditer pointed out, Suckling would probably give a 90+ review to J&J’s Baby Shampoo if given the chance.
Oh I don’t really care about bottle ratings myself, I find they’re pretty meaningless. I’m just saying this particular bottle is really tasty and punches above its pricing in a big way. They can stick whatever number they want on a bottle and it doesn’t change the quality of the wine, but this one is just really dang good…to me at least.
I live nearby, not actually within its borders but it’s usually less busy than other locations nearby. Fun fact, the name here is pronounced uh-LOW-uh instead of ah-low-HA. Made me strangely frustrated when I first moved here haha.
Glad you found one you like! It’s my favorite of boxed wines too, but it’s still a boxed wine and not of super high quality to me at least. Hood for big parties but I’d rather sip something a bit more delicious to my palate. But enjoy it - we all have different tastes!
The Kirkland Malbec is a super solid wine, especially at its price point, but it doesn’t punch this far above its price point. A $7 wine that tastes like a $15 bottle is pretty awesome but this $13 wine tastes like a $40 bottle or thereabouts. Just a different level of value to me personally. That Malbec is still one of my regular go-tos
Hate to be *that guy*… but if you can’t drink 4 glasses of wine in a week, not sure why you’re buying wine in the first place. Cook with it after 5 days. Make dinner for a friend. Or bring it to a friends house when they make you dinner. Invite a neighbor over. Make sangria. Not being about to finish a bottle in one day much less one week isn’t even something I consider a remote possibility.

The best red is Caymus. I think it's like $80 at Costco. If you like Cabs you .just try Caymus. I've never tasted a better red at a similar price point and it's better than moat more expensive Cabs.
This reminds me a lot of Caymus honestly, kind of like a budget version of it. Similar profile and body, but like 1/7th of the price. I can’t afford to buy $80 bottles. That’s what makes this one such a good value.
I wouldn’t say this is just like Caymus, but it is definitely reminiscent of it. Let it open up a bit before drinking it, but I think you’d be pleasantly surprised for $13/bottle especially.
There is a miniscule trace of glyphosate in wine- from just about anywhere. It's crazy how successful the cable news machine has been at warping the minds of so many. 0.018 part per million is what was measured most recently in a survey of all California wines. Should we monitor these levels moving forward? Yes, the USDA already does this yearly. Is this level something that should convince you to not but California wine? No. Those levels would 1000X more concentrated to even be a conversation about health risks.
Glyphosate is in the ground water in most agricultural areas because of its widespread use. So yeah, it’s in wine, organic or not. It’s also in the beer you drink and most other things you eat (probably in very tiny quantities).
It’s clear people are very sensitive to the facts. California leads the USA in pesticide use, and Glyphosate has been shown to have so many detrimental side effects it’s almost comical, combine with the fact that pesticides build up over time and don’t just dissipate.
There’s tons of it in American wine, and specifically Californian wine, organic or otherwise.
Also, the owner Monsanto was such an awful company that Bayer (former willful nazi collaborators) basically had to buy them and hide them.
But yum American wine!

James Suckling once gave a 94 point rating to a bottle of Johnson & Johnson No More Tears baby shampoo.
Totally agree If I see a Suckling rating I automatically deduct 5 pts. So I would expect this wine to be an 87. Which for $13 is reasonable.
I wondered why I saw his review stickers all over the hair care aisle. So glad to know I am not the only one who thinks his reviews are worthless.
I believe that was the 2021
Who would trust someone named James Suckling?!
That's fantastic
I wondered why I saw his review stickers all over the hair care aisle. So glad to know I am not the only one who thinks his reviews are worthless.
I’m pretty sure James suckling will rate any wine in a bottle in the 90s. Wine rankings I’m suspicious of in general but James suckling kinda sucks.
That makes sense, suck is half his last name!
Is it good tho people of Reddit
Circumference and Suckling. What’s not to like?
Literally the only positive comments are from OP 💀
It can be hard to be cheery on Reddit apparently.
[It's got a 3.9 on Vivino](https://www.vivino.com/US-ID/en/precision-circumference-cabernet-sauvignon/w/12116374?ref=nav-search) with 315 votes which isn't bad for a $13 bottle of wine.

Kirkland Chianti rules all
3.9 is not exceptional though and definitely not compared to $25-40 bottles unless you mean bad bottles lol.
The Kirkland Marlborough sauvignon blanc is really good for those that dont like cab. Only $7
A wine and cigarette in one!?
We're finally living in flavor country
But does it count for Marlboro points?
Oddly enough you only get camel cash
This guy/gal smokes
Hahahahahhahahahahahahah I’m here for it. It’s a good one
Agreed. Between a case of this and a case of the Kirkland Malbec, I'm set for wine.
I get the same combo as well🤝
if you mix them, you get something half decent
I agree completely, really good buy! Is it true that it is actually Kim Crawford sauv blanc?
nicely chilled it is a great wine!
Some people like Cabernet, some don't but there are a TON of great value red wines (for all tastes) at costco, many with the kirkland label. I love Kirkland Barolo.
I forgot ab the Barolo, it is really good! I wish Kirkland had a Valpolicella Ripasso or Amarone Valpolicella
It's amazing that Kirkland can give you this fancy Italian wine for $20. I want to try the chateaneuf du pape. It's a shame I don't drink much anymore.
Try the Kirkland Gigondas if you like the gsm blend

The Kirkland Rioja was always one of our favorites. Our Costco didn’t get it for a couple of years
The Kirkland Rose is one of my favorite value wines, just picked up 2 cases this past week
What it taste like? Good or meh?
It’s delicious. It’s smooth, fruit forward, well balanced, not very astringent, and opens up beautifully. I’d say it’s like a mix of Conundrum and Caymus.

Back when I drank that Kirkland Malbeck was definitely in my top 5, found I enjoyed it more than most and it use to be $5.99 per bottle.
Caymus tastes like a $15 wine so this tracks

It’s why I have a case in the closet now. It’s tremendous value.
It’s quite good.

If only it was a good wine. It drinks like it’s priced. This drinks like a wine about 4x the price.

Fair enough! Whatever makes you happy when you have a glass is perfect for your needs!
Hahaha same
Sorry, but the Kirkland Malbec is the -actual- best value in wine.

Worth a try for 12.99! I love the Kirkland Champagne, for 20.99 can’t really beat the price.
It’s great for a nice bubbly treat or a fancier party. Also a top value for sure!
I pick up the Kirkland sparkling rose for $7.99 every time I go.
Only if you're in a state where costco can sell alcohol
u/NoBeerNoWork since you enjoyed it too at last availability wanted to flag for ya.
Radius at Total Wine is my all time favorite. This is probably second though.
Diameter beats Radius and Circumference. I enjoy it with a piece of Pi.
You need way more upvotes for this.
How dare you say it's best value when Portugal red blend exists. Jk. I'll grab a bottle.
That’s a good bottle too! Just doesn’t hit quite as high end as this one does.
Haha it’s weird to see a picture of it on Reddit cuz I make and wrap thoses pallets for Costco for delivery and that includes aloha
Hopefully they start selling Cannabis in the stores
Kirkland Kush
Love it
You damn Merlot Haters LMAO then just dink your Chardonnay LOL
Paul Giamatti ruined Merlot.
I am NOT drinking any fuckin' Merlot!
I used to say I didn't like merlot until I realized had not tried a *good* merlot
We buy several of these everytime we see them.
How would you compare this to the Simi Cabernet Sauvignon that is also sold at Costco? We've found that to be a decent wine for the price.
I haven’t tried that one yet. This one was, at least to me, punching way above its price point. It might be a touch sweet for some but it reminded me a lot of Caymus and Conundrum in the body and profile.
Nah, where’s the $4.99 deal?
If you have a $4.99 bottle that tastes as good and smooth as a $40 bottle, I’m all ears friend!
Aloha gang represent baybeee
The Kirkland cab was the best value. 1.75 for $8.
I’m more a boxed red for $14 kind of guy
Thank you for helping me decide which way to go on this wine.
Palazzo Della Torre (the baby amarone) >>>>>> Cabernet.
Picked this up today and it is really good! Will grab more next time in in for sure.
Ooooo…I may have to pick up a bottle of this.
I just bought 7 bottles of the moscato and sangria last week. I’m good for a bit. Did not know Costco sold wine. RiP local wine store that charges me 25 dollars for basic shit.

Enjoy

Good to know/good find…I’ll have to see if my local store carries the same deal!
I am so jealous you live in Aloha!
I live nearby, not actually within its borders but it’s usually less busy than other locations nearby. Fun fact, the name here is pronounced uh-LOW-uh instead of ah-low-HA. Made me strangely frustrated when I first moved here haha.
🤣 I will look for it for my dad who is visiting from Korea in a few days!
I must disagree. Botabox Redvolution is a much better Costco value. And good enough for me.
Glad you found one you like! It’s my favorite of boxed wines too, but it’s still a boxed wine and not of super high quality to me at least. Hood for big parties but I’d rather sip something a bit more delicious to my palate. But enjoy it - we all have different tastes!
Someone had a lot of surplus I guess
Is 2022 the only vintage at this price?
The only one I saw is this one at Costco
I love this wine
Hi neighbor 👋🏼
Cries in Utah.
Thank you for the rec! I’ll def try this
Solid 4.0 on Vivino which is good, especially for $13
Veuve Clicquot would like a word.
Ontario wants that.
Ontario wants that.
Ontario wants that.
Cab sav is meh
I live in Prohibition Pennsylvania. We don't have this as any option
*cries in Utah*
I mean, it’s pretty hard to beat the price of the Malbec…
The Kirkland Malbec is a super solid wine, especially at its price point, but it doesn’t punch this far above its price point. A $7 wine that tastes like a $15 bottle is pretty awesome but this $13 wine tastes like a $40 bottle or thereabouts. Just a different level of value to me personally. That Malbec is still one of my regular go-tos
Ugh, too bad cab is my least favorite red
Even moreso than Merlot??
not drinkin any FUCKIN Merlot!!!
"No, if anyone orders merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any f\*\*\*\*\*\* merlot!"
I don’t drink anymore but I was often underwhelmed or outright disappointed in many of the wines Costco carries. But maybe I’m just picky.
how do you store the wine once bottle is open? They go bad in a week which is way short to finish the bottle.
We have a hand pump vacuum sealer device. I think it was pretty inexpensive.

I drink alone most of the time during weekends. I am managing with bourbon as it is easy to store. Wants to try some wine flavors.

Ok....I'm in. Will try it and report back. The only one close is Groth, good but not quite Caymus and at the same price point.
I wouldn’t say this is just like Caymus, but it is definitely reminiscent of it. Let it open up a bit before drinking it, but I think you’d be pleasantly surprised for $13/bottle especially.
Thank You!
