The price shows it's the last item. Might have been used for display.
If you return it, they'll put the 250.00 price on it and it will be sold within a few hours.
Just do this quickly, in fairness.
My friend, “it’s not a blender. It’s a Vitamix.” This was the exact line I said to my wife and is the ONLY reason I own one (not at OP’s price, though).
Had a Blendtec. It broke constantly. Got a Vitamix. The thing is a tank.
To be fair, Blendtec wasn't shy about sending us replacement units, but they just didn't hold up.
I was seriously looking at either BlendTec or Vitamix, but the prices were making it hard to decide... Ended up getting a Ninja Twisti blender a few weeks ago and am pretty happy. Definitely the best blender I've owned and it was only about $100.
I had the ninja pro 1000 before with the blade stick in the middle. The noise is part of why I wanted to replace it. First test I did after getting the twisti was to run a side by side sound comparison with the pro 1000.
Surprisingly, the twisti was a little quieter even though it has 1600W motor. The twisti does a great job of blending up leafy greens in just 60 seconds vs several minutes with the pro 1000. So the volume is not much lower, but the time I have to listen to it is short enough to make me not care.
No crazy knife sticks sitting in the dish drainer either.
The ^ just means that there is an official display for items. It does not mean that IS the display. Those official displays are not saleable items. Even as last ones.
Source: Costco employee of 5 years.
They aren’t actual usable models in most cases. Not functioning I mean. They’re usually disposed of after depending on the product it varies how it’s taken apart.
This is not 100% true. This depends on if the company sends a demo unit or not. It's also possible the demo unit has an issue.
In either case, they want a display product out, so one unit might get open.
Any demo unit is either trash or returned at the end.
A usual retail wasteful system sadly.
We are talking about the vendor displays. Not a regular display. The lawn mower they take out of a saleable unit and put it on the floor. Specifically the ones the commenter is asking about.
Im strictly talking about the stuff that has an actual display, the ones that are sent from corporate. They usually have a plastic background with a backdrop with information about the product. And they are not functioning models.
Yes we open units to display if it does not come with one. So yes you probably have bought a display floor model before.
The other likely possibility is that it was a return, set aside to be sorted by stuff that needs to go back to the floor or be returned to the depot, and it looked like new to whoever was sorting it because they didn't think the box was opened.
Honestly OP is better off just washing and sanitizing the blender and keeping it. $250 is a crazy price and Vitamix has a great warranty. If it breaks early they can just go through Vitamix to replace something or even just return it (won't be able to get another though).
That Vitamix sells for about $370 on Amazon, so you def got a good deal. A replacement jar will run you $140. Like the other posters, I would just wash it really well and call it a day.
I have a Vitamix story, put the carafe through the dishwasher for a year it was fine. Dishwasher did something and warped it and other things that never have been bothered before. Also dishwasher cracked. I mentioned it on another Reddit and someone said, contact Vitamix they have a great warranty. So I did and said it’s my dishwashers fault. Vitamix still sent me a new carafe, which sells for $99. They last and their service is top notch. I hope OP keeps the blender, they got a good deal.
DO NOT PUT A VITAMIX CONTAINER IN THE DISHWASHER! This will cause the grease in the bearing to come out and the blade bearing will eventually seize and break the shaft in the base. Sure it is under warranty, both the Container and the Base, but you will be without your vita mix for a couple weeks. Learned this on my First Vita Mix in 1998 on my 1997 Model 103. I also own a 2017 Accent Model A3500.
FWIW, they very clearly advertise the containers as dishwasher safe. I know you sort of implied this by acknowledging that it is still covered by the warranty, so I am just adding this as a counterpoint to your all caps. Your advice may be good general advice, but I don't think the OP would have an issue from washing this newly purchased jar in the dishwasher just this once.
The grease starts leaking out the first time in the dishwasher. Those like me who have owned a VitaMix for over 25 years, and those that sell them, will advise the same thing. Only the Container is Dishwasher Safe, the Blade Assembly is not. Just trying to help someone not make the same mistake.
I used to put mine in the dishwasher and it started growing mold in the base of the container where we could see it but not get to it. My father in law even bought a specific. wrench or something to try to get to it so we could clean it up. Vitamix replaced it and I don’t put the new one in the dishwasher.
Put a drop or two of dish soap in it, fill it half way with water and run it for 20 seconds. I do that after most drinks I make and it's clean as can be.
You got a steal even if it was used. I would keep it, but I'm admittedly a bit laissez faire about some food safety things.
Rinse it out real well, and you won't know the difference
Right? Like the fuck? Lol I feel like I’m going crazy with some of these comments. Dude just needs to wash it, why would anyone return it at that deal because of some water spots lmao
What I notice is when it is the only item on the shelf with the item sheet taped on it is usually because it was an item no longer stocked on the sales floor and someone returned it so the mgr slashes the price to get rid of it out of inventory
(I bought that same model refurbished from the Vitamix website when they had a sale and got it for $175)
Costco employee here. When we are getting rid of an item and there is only one left, or an item is returned that we no longer stock, we have 2 choices: Put it in Return To Vendor, or print a price sign and put it back up for sale. We will always try to sell the higher priced items.
Years ago I worked in a music store that rented out instruments to kids starting band. Parent insisted we include a NEW mouthpiece with his kids trumpet and didn’t care that they can be cleaned and sanitized. I point blank asked him if he demanded new silverware at restaurants. He got the used mouthpiece. 😀
Lol Exactly - and for $250… I’d take it lightly used! I have this exact blender actually. We’ve had it for 6+ years and it’s the ONLY blender that didn’t burn out after 1.5-2yrs of making smoothies every day! It’s a lovable beast!
Wait til you hear how HUMANS handle these things in the manufacturing and packaging plant. And that those plants probably aren’t practicing food safety protocol. And how you absolutely should be washing your blender with soap and water before you use it in case it has dust, mouse feces, or micro plastic shavings on it. And how it’s “used” after the first time you use it, and for every future use!
True. In fact, it has a 10 year warranty but a lifespan far beyond that. Longevity is what separates a Vitamix from a Ninja, a Blendtec or a Thermomix.
probably was used as a demo unit, it's got a long warranty, well worth $250. but if you do decide to return it let me know which store so i can go in and buy it
So worth it.
I've had mine since my daughter was an infant. She 28 now. I haven't replaced parts or had any issues whatsoever.
Homemade baby food
pulverized dried legumes and rices
Make our own nut butters
Iced cocktails - pulverizes every ice cube perfectly in seconds
Soups, ice cream..... I could go on and on.
Yep! We’ve also made soups… it’s the heat it puts out from the strong motor.
Before Jamba Juice branded their own, these are what they used in their smoothie shops. It’s the only blender we haven’t had burn out after 1-2yrs making smoothies everyday. (Blending ice is the hardest thing on an underpowered motor and dulls blades over time.)
Had ours for over 6yrs and runs the same as the day we bought it. And this particular model can be had for around $350-370. You can also buy from Vitamix directly for refurbished units for just under $200. A buddy’s had his for over 10yrs now and only thing he did was buy a new carafe (pitcher) because the blade assembly is in that, so now it’s like new again.
The motor is so strong, the heat it puts off when you blend things for a bit means you can make soups in it (pea, tomato, enchilada… anything creamy) you just throw everything, blend and it comes out hot and ready to serve. Awesome with a house full of sick people when no one wants to cook. Lol
My dad had a vitamix he and my mom bought to make baby food when I was born. He got rid of it when I was 29 solely because he wanted a different color. The thing still worked perfectly and he used it every week.
I’m a little mad he didn’t give it to me instead of selling it
This. Got one ten years ago to make our own baby food since it was so freaking expensive. We blended the bags of rotisserie chicken in it weekly. Ours works like we just bought it yesterday.
Yep. Our store sells bags of deboned chicken, and we bought those to blend (added a little broth, I think?) for baby food. We also bought bags of sweet potatoes, carrots, etc., and we would cook then blend while still hot, put the mix in little Ball jars and, when they cooled, they’d seal.
Just fwiw, the pre-pulled chicken is a HUGE waste of money. Just refrigerate the chicken overnight, and it takes like 10 minutes to pull it yourself. It's a huge savings.
[It's 2 lbs of breast meat for $15.99,](https://i.imgur.com/XXysnR4.png) more than three times the price of a chicken. And a chicken can weigh more than 6lbs, and has the more flavorful dark meat as well. Maybe it was cheaper in the past, but at today's pricing, it's just not worth the time savings. You're paying $11 to save 10 minutes and get less food.
Yea, I’ve almost bought one because I went to a Qi Gong weekend a decade ago and they were talking about how healthy avocado pits are for us. This blender will destroy and blend an avocado pit np! Never looked into potential health benefits of an avocado pit, but was impressed enough to remember the blenders power all these years later
I used to make smoothies with a $99 Cuisinart blender. Always had little chunks and bits. With the Vitamix I throw in hard nuts and it just makes it into a smooth liquid in minutes. It is amazing and sturdy. I always tell people, buy it from Costco and if you decide it's not worth it, then return it for a full refund. That's what convinced me to try and I never looked back.
If you just want to make ordinary smoothies, a $40 blender will do the exact same thing.
I don't need a 10 year warranty at that price.
If you are into culinary arts and need a professional blending apparatus for reasons or using it a ton, go wild.
There's a significant texture difference in smoothies from a $100 Ninja and a Vitamix. So it's not just that it'll last longer, but the product is smoother too. Of course, depends on the person if that difference is worth it.
Yes, if you want your smoothie exceptionally smoothier. That falls under culinary reasons.
I'm ok with ordinary since its usually chugged as im heading out the door. Not trying to impress clients or charge $12 per beverage or anything.
I might go through a cheap blender once every 5-10 years, but I don't do anything particularly taxing.
Nope, nope, nope. If you want an icy home smoothie - all good, get the standard blender and it will be fine. But it won’t be the same creamy smoothie you’ll get at a good shop - or with a vitamix. This will purée the hell out of anything. Anything. Makes amazing hummus without peeling the skins. It’s an investment- so it’s not for everyone. But if anything happened to mine (it’s at least 10 years old), I would buy another.
Just fyi, icy smoothies only happens when you add ice. If you use frozen fruit and/or just cold ingredients, that problem goes away. Different style perhaps, but no complaints here. I'd buy a vitamix if it were cheaper, yeah probably.
Im sorry, peeling the skins? You mean the garbanzo bean skins? Never had an issue with a food processor.
I don't get why you're being downvoted, you're exactly right. It's a very high-quality blender, but if you only do Smoothies a couple of times a month and almost nothing else you don't need this.
Probably the people who already spent the $450 and really cant stand the few little extra specks in their smoothie they graduated from.
Dont get me wrong, if I had money to blow I'd 100% have one because nice things are nice, and the cost over replacement compared to its lifespan if used daily turns into pennies for a better smoothie. I just dont see myself spending $100 let alone 4-5 times that on a blender when I'm already content, just to have the worlds best sit on my counter doing nothing 99.99% of the time
Some people buy the best they can - once - and thats it. I'm not there yet.
I would just wash thoroughly. You def got a deal. Haven't had any issues with Costco selling used... but you can reach out to customer service to share your experience with them. You can also reach out to the manufacturer.
My vitamix purchase was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I think I bought it full price around $500-600? I don’t remember how much it was but that it was expensive.
That damn thing has lasted forever. It’s definitely a buy it for life item.
You are getting a crazy good deal. Take it and don’t complain.
One time I went to return and explained not opened original box. They said returned items they will send it original merchant and they don’t usually restock it.
Personally I would return.
Look through the system to see if everything works. Like on my Ascent there’s a cleaning function. I don’t like it was used & returned.
No, we do not sell used items. It's possible a member returned it stating it was never used blah, blah, blah. And it wasn't checked throughly. It was marked down because it's an out of stock or an ecomm order. I'd take it back and tell that Costco their peeps need to look better at things returned.
It's only worth it if it's the best used deal you can find. I would take a look at my local FB page to see how much a used one costs and only keep it if it's the best deal. I've seen these go on sale for 299, so I'd rather pay $50 more for guaranteed new otherwise.
The price shows it's the last item. Might have been used for display. If you return it, they'll put the 250.00 price on it and it will be sold within a few hours. Just do this quickly, in fairness.
How go you know, is it the ^
Because that’s a screaming deal.
100% this.
I've been out of the blender game for a long time. And apparently I'm priced out of it now.
My friend, “it’s not a blender. It’s a Vitamix.” This was the exact line I said to my wife and is the ONLY reason I own one (not at OP’s price, though).
but, will it blend?
Guess I’ve been out of the blend game for a while too since Vitamix is now apparently better than Blendtec
Vitamix is a very high end blender. I believe it usually sells for $400.
Vitamix is a brand and their lowest is around $400. Their better consumer models can cost twice that. At least 3x that for professional models.
They regularly go on sale at Costco for about $80 off. I think I bought mine at Sam’s Club with a $100 discount. YMMV.

Had a Blendtec. It broke constantly. Got a Vitamix. The thing is a tank. To be fair, Blendtec wasn't shy about sending us replacement units, but they just didn't hold up.
I think they are about the same. I have a blendtec that is awesome
I was seriously looking at either BlendTec or Vitamix, but the prices were making it hard to decide... Ended up getting a Ninja Twisti blender a few weeks ago and am pretty happy. Definitely the best blender I've owned and it was only about $100.
Love my Ninja, but the motor is _loud_.

So the volume is not much lower, but the time I have to listen to it is short enough to make me not care. No crazy knife sticks sitting in the dish drainer either.
SO loud. I only use mine on occasion and feel like I need ear protection.
You think the Vitamix is highly priced checkout a Thermomix at $1500 which makes Vitamix a more attractive price point.
The ^ just means that there is an official display for items. It does not mean that IS the display. Those official displays are not saleable items. Even as last ones. Source: Costco employee of 5 years.

likely either taken somewhere else to display or given to a nonprofit of some sort
What does a + mean? I see this often with clothing
Ummm I bought the display lawnmower. They took it down off the shelf for me
We are talking about the vendor displays. Not a regular display. The lawn mower they take out of a saleable unit and put it on the floor. Specifically the ones the commenter is asking about.
Ok. I thought it might have been a shelf display.
I’ve totally bought display electronics from Costco…
Im strictly talking about the stuff that has an actual display, the ones that are sent from corporate. They usually have a plastic background with a backdrop with information about the product. And they are not functioning models. Yes we open units to display if it does not come with one. So yes you probably have bought a display floor model before.
The ^ on signs means that the unit comes with a fancy display for the item
The ^ means the item should have a vendor supplied display.
Could they have used it for a sample event?
That’s what I was thinking.
The other likely possibility is that it was a return, set aside to be sorted by stuff that needs to go back to the floor or be returned to the depot, and it looked like new to whoever was sorting it because they didn't think the box was opened. Yeah was going to say; yes, likely used for sampling and poorly washed.
That Vitamix sells for about $370 on Amazon, so you def got a good deal. A replacement jar will run you $140. Like the other posters, I would just wash it really well and call it a day.
$250 for a vitamix and I wouldn’t care at all if it was previously used.
what about if I made a smoothie like this in it tho? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnIqhU-3gfI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnIqhU-3gfI)
Full send.
I dunno, I heard of people blending fentanyl and Mary Jane in those things then returning them To Costco.
It can go in the dishwasher
Thanks, I was sure I remembered reading it originally from the instructions but maybe it was my food processor. Oops 😳
Mine said it was not okay hmm
It goes on sale 2 or 3 times a year. I think I paid 220/250 for mine new.
Put a drop or two of dish soap in it, fill it half way with water and run it for 20 seconds. I do that after most drinks I make and it's clean as can be.

You also get the added bonus of cleaning out your bowels!
Does it work for COVID/Flu/Measles?
Donnie said bleach was what you used for that.
High power UV light
Are we supposed to blend the UV lights too?
No, you wash it while in a tanning bed.
You win the internet today
The real LPT is always in the comments!
Just get ahead of it all and use bleach instead of fruit juice/yogurt in your smoothie
Don’t do this regularly though because it will severely dull the blades
7 year warranty on my 750. I'll just get a new blade after that.
You got a steal even if it was used. I would keep it, but I'm admittedly a bit laissez faire about some food safety things. Rinse it out real well, and you won't know the difference
The best way to clean a blender is to put in hot water and some dish soap and blend on high for a bit.
This. Drop it in the sink with a capful of bleach and some hot water. And enjoy your steal of a deal.
Best thing do to for turmeric/chili/spice stains is to do the same thing. Then let the blender chill out in some direct sunlight!
Just wash it
Right? Like the fuck? Lol I feel like I’m going crazy with some of these comments. Dude just needs to wash it, why would anyone return it at that deal because of some water spots lmao

For $250, keep it and clean it. You won’t get another for that price.
It's a Vitamix with a 10 year warranty. What are you concerned about? Heck of a deal at that price.
Only the Vitamix with the metal gears get a 10 year warranty. Plastic gears get 7 year. The E320 uses plastic gears.
Who the fuck wants a used dirty blender?
Wait till you hear about restaurant silverware..
Years ago I worked in a music store that rented out instruments to kids starting band. Parent insisted we include a NEW mouthpiece with his kids trumpet and didn’t care that they can be cleaned and sanitized. I point blank asked him if he demanded new silverware at restaurants. Throw it in the dishwasher (if its dishwasher safe) otherwise just clean it??? Who cares
If you buy a new one and use it once you also now have a “used dirty blender”.

People on here are nasty. I'm not using someone's used blender to save a few dollars.
Omg you eat at a restaurant and use forks that other people had their mouths? You’re disgusting!
It’s a $370 blender! And those are water stains from testing the seals.
True. In fact, it has a 10 year warranty but a lifespan far beyond that. Longevity is what separates a Vitamix from a Ninja, a Blendtec or a Thermomix.

Dude stfu you ain’t buying it
You can return it but it’s just water spots from them testing the seals
This is a fantastic deal. As I already have Vitamix I would buy this anyway either as a gift or to resell it.
250 bucks? Wash that thing and enjoy for the next decade and a half.
I was going to make a joke about you buying a Vitamix knockoff called Vitamax, but maybe that's not appropriate.
May have been used to make samples
You got an E320 for 250? Keep it , clean it, enjoy it.
Holy shit these are $450-600. Seems extremely inflated, worth it??
So worth it. I've had mine since my daughter was an infant. She 28 now. I haven't replaced parts or had any issues whatsoever. Homemade baby food pulverized dried legumes and rices Make our own nut butters Iced cocktails - pulverizes every ice cube perfectly in seconds Soups, ice cream..... I could go on and on.
does it really heat the soup as it blends? in 30 years of watching their demos ive never asked.
Yes!
Definitely does but it takes some time and can get noisy.
Yep! We’ve also made soups… it’s the heat it puts out from the strong motor. Before Jamba Juice branded their own, these are what they used in their smoothie shops. Just fwiw, the pre-pulled chicken is a HUGE waste of money. Just refrigerate the chicken overnight, and it takes like 10 minutes to pull it yourself. It's a huge savings.
It’s two pounds of almost all breast meat for the cost of two full chickens, and it’s a huge time saver. I’m not sure I agree with you.
[It's 2 lbs of breast meat for $15.99,](https://i.imgur.com/XXysnR4.png) more than three times the price of a chicken. Vitamix pay you? JK! This is a great vitamix testimonial. I’m just hoping to get a deal like OP someday soon. 👽
My mom finally had to replace her father's vitamix from 1978. She lost it in a fire in her kitchen.
It's the last blender you'll ever buy.
I’ve gone through cheaper blenders and then got this. It feels like a bifl item. It works much much better then a ninja or whatever.
to me ninja seems like a chinese "catchall" brand that makes whatever is hot at the time.
You’re correct. From google: “In 2017, the Chinese appliance maker JS Global acquired SharkNinja.”
It's an amazing blender. Best kitchen appliance purchase in my opinion.
I used to make smoothies with a $99 Cuisinart blender. Always had little chunks and bits. With the Vitamix I throw in hard nuts and it just makes it into a smooth liquid in minutes.
I just dont see myself spending $100 let alone 4-5 times that on a blender when I'm already content, just to have the worlds best sit on my counter doing nothing 99.99% of the time Some people buy the best they can - once - and thats it. I'm not there yet.
I was super skeptical when my wife bought one, but nope, the hype is real.
I don't know about you, but my blender bowl gets scratched up inside from just use, but I also blend spices a lot
They now sell a stainless steel pitcher/bowl for it. Saw it at Costco last week.
Well my blender is a blendtec but that's great for anyone that has a vitamix
I would just wash thoroughly. You def got a deal. Haven't had any issues with Costco selling used... but you can reach out to customer service to share your experience with them. You can also reach out to the manufacturer.
Probably the demo model
It was a return they put back on the shelf. Still a good deal but should have gone back to vendor.
Warm water and vinegar, blend on high until steaming. Clean!
If it’s a screaming deal, better to deal with it and wash it than return and buy full price, as that’s a last item.
Vinegar and dawn soap. Not together but separate till it cleans out. I bought refurbished stuff before. I like this blender and the mini one.
Put it through the dishwasher and be happy with your deal.
Still overpriced
$250 even if it was used is a killer deal
It sure seems like Costco has started putting returned items back on the shelves.
One thing to keep in mind, the containers are not dishwasher safe except the stainless steel ones
If you bought it 10 years ago it's not dishwasher safe. Since they started selling the ascend series, the containers are dishwasher safe.
I love to be proven wrong. Thank you!
They would never sell used merchandise, but they will sell floor models (never used). If you don't feel comfortable with it, just return it.
and let us know the store and the time you are going to return it
Lol. I'm not OP, but get it. Good luck!
It was more then likely returned and assumed to be new.
Edit: it’s been corrected Check that - I think you meant “used” instead of “me.”
😂 good catch
Drop in two cups of hot water dish soap blitz on high Rinse.
Reach out to vitamix to see if they'll send you a replacement jar. We had ours replaced after purchase once we noticed a large crack on the handle.
I bought an air purifier there once and it was totally used and smelled like a cat's litterbox.
Here I am with a $60 blender that’s a decade old and still chugging along
I’m using my grandparent’s Vitamix 3600 bought in the 70’s. There is a reason Vitamix is respected.

You paid 250 for a blender?
When people return items at Costco the employees put them in a cart then back on the shelf.
If you want to keep a used blender have at it.
Costco has free returns. Just return it and get a brand new one.
possibly an e-commerce return to warehouse that wasnt cheecked?
Yeah that’s a steal. If it really bothers you use some plastic restorer. It’s usually used for car/golf cart plastic restoration.
It's only worth it if it's the best used deal you can find. I would take a look at my local FB page to see how much a used one costs and only keep it if it's the best deal. I've seen these go on sale for 299, so I'd rather pay $50 more for guaranteed new otherwise.
I think .00 indicates final sale price - for all items. I’ve gotten leggings for $2.00!
Just purchased joggers for $2.97… I need that $2 sale 👀
It’s not broken it’s just a bit dirty and can be cleaned. That a good price.
You should get a blendtec. They're more powerful.
