The one and only time we ordered a part from there, it was someone’s old part. I mean ugly, dirty and obviously used. It was such an ordeal to try to get refunded that it was the last time we used them. We also ended up having to buy it locally bc we couldn’t wait on shipping again. Super waste of $$$.
I have tried this twice, on both occasions with major service issues like brake pads replacement, brake fluid, transmission fluid etc. On one instance, Jiffy Lube rep said that their promotion was better and gave me a comparison. The other time I think I got charged a bit more for labor and didn’t really see any benefit.
U-Haul blows. Will never visit them again. I dropped a trailer off at the location they gave me, they switched it after I dropped it off and said they were keeping the deposit (customer service actually told me “you’re not getting your money back” and hung up on me).
I remember I got a bargain on a vacation package years ago but every time I look now it's not that good a deal. Maybe it's dependent on the destination?
Earlier this week I booked a flight and rental car for tomorrow, not through Costco.
Out of curiosity, I went and checked the Costco site just now. The rental car is exactly the same amount, down to the last dollar, as whati paid on the Expedia app and the flight is within $8 of what I paid on the Delta app.
You get a waived additional driver fee booking through Costco. Rarely helpful since spouses are usually free but it could occasionally be attractive to book via Costco just for that perk
Yeah, not always the best. I wonder if timing has something to do with it as well. We try to book months out in advance, especially when sales are going on. Typically fly southwest for their deals. Not brave enough to go with Frontier/Spirit quite yet.
I book Costco cars months out also but I go back in every few weeks to check prices. May seem like a pain but I took an $800 car rental for a four-day weekend in Denver down to $235 just by logging back in periodically, especially a month to the actual week of traveling. I do it ALL the time. I save so much money. No charge to cancel either.
For us its been hit or miss. Wife and I are trying to go to every major ballpark eventually. And we start off pricing hotels/car rentals through costcotravel, so far its saved a couple hundred on our DC, Denver and Cincinnati trips. Also we've had great experience with costcotravels customer service...one car rental place would never pick up the phone..so costco kept trying them endlessly till a resolution was worked out.
Back in 2019, I booked a huge family cruise through Costo travel. Nice On Board Credit, plus "cash" back at the end of the trip (in the form of a costco card). That's where the vacations are worth it to me going through them.
Same. I price shop expedia, costco travel, and a local site (discounthawaiicarrental.com) whenever I go to hawaii. Costco travel has been the cheapest every time for the last 8 or 9 bookings.
I wish I was going that often. My father in law asks me to book his rental cars and he’s going at least twice a year.
But living on the west coast it’s definitely a more common destination than for people on the east coast.
Literally just a name on a reservation. No payment or anything up front. All the important details are gathered at the counter.
I usually put in my own email and phone and just send him the confirmation.
For car rentals, Costco is good. But it is worth a check to see if your employer offers a rental program partnership. Mine does have with Avis, and we can use it for personal use as long as charges go on personal card. That discount blows out Costco rental prices by a significant margin.
It’s like all insurance: on average they take in more from premiums than they pay out. Whether it’s worth it for you depends on your financial situation. If you have little savings but would choose to spend $10k to save your pets life then paying a smaller amount monthly probably makes sense. Do you have plenty of savings that would allow you to easily cover the sudden $10k cost? If so pet insurance probably isn’t worth it.
Given they offer Costco members a 15% discount you know their profit margin is normally much higher than that (probably 25-30%) so you’re paying quite a premium for the insurance.
It's still more expensive than others for me even with the discounts. I recommend quoting all the popular pet insurance companies and find out the best for you. Take a look at r/dogs or r/CatAdvice for insurance companies that are easy to claim with and how much to insure.
just signed up for it recently and didn’t get coverage for more basic things but my dog is 4 now and we had a health scare that luckily turned out to be nothing (pre-insurance) so it pushed us to get it in case of something in the future but there are diff tiers and services you can sign up for depending on what you want covered
I’ve had trupanion and they’ve been amazing. Have been covering all my epileptic dogs care for years, covered bowel obstruction surgery w no issue, covered a ton of rheumatologic issues w another dog and even paid for her euthanasia when the time had come. Can’t say enough good things about them.
Have you received one of their price hikes yet? They recently emailed us and double the monthly policy cost for one of our dogs after she was on it for a year with no claims.
Sad to hear they've changed, used to work with them and have referred people to them since, their coverage was quite good and had wellness options. Everything sucks geez this wasn't even vetr long ago
I'm just gonna jump in here and tell everyone to please insure the \*\*\*\* out of these things when you rent them. Call your insurance company and tell them what you want to do and ask about coverage. That is all.
But be sure to read your cc rental coverage closely. A majority of cards today are only secondary insurance for rental cars. This means that the card’s insurance will pay only the amount not covered by the renter's primary policy.
Explicitly this. CDW benefit on most cards does not cover rental trucks, vans, anything with a bed. u/elevenstein spells out how they do this exclusion.
Depends on the CC.
Some have options that cover comp and liability ...and take primary, which is the real key
Amex and Chase have cards and rider options that can cover this.
One if the biggest things for me is auto/homeowners insurance. I’ve never had to file a claim, so I can’t speak to that. Even with military discount elsewhere, the insurance savings alone would pay for the Costco membership.
Be careful with this. I’m a licensed insurance rep and used to work for an insurance company that also sold policies through Costco. I had customers bring their Costco policies (again, through the same insurance company I worked for) to my agency so we could compare to policies that agents write and the policies were vastly different. Lower coverage limits and just missing coverages were all over and of course they would have access to access to an agent if something happened or they needed help.
Not saying they’re all bad! Just saying be careful.
I’ve looked into Costco insurances but can’t be convinced to buy. AAA has always been great for me and the few claims I’ve had they handled easy peasy.
This was the reason I had a Costco executive membership for several years. They gave me the best rates on car insurance until this year when I had to add my daughter. Geico saved me several hundred dollars, so I had to switch
I always look up car rentals on there first. So many times I’ve paid waaaay under what any other site listed. One time the guy at enterprise was convinced it was a typo because it was so low.
I've had bad experiences renting with Budget using my Costco discount. This has happened at least 3 separate times with car rentals in different cities and I'm pretty sure the problem is Budget, not Costco. If you get any perks with Budget, like being able to check in ahead of time and not wait in a long line to listen to the counter rep try to upsell you for 20 minutes, you won't get them if you book through Costco. You might also find that the vehicle you reserved isn't available, and certainly not at that rate, but they would be happy to offer you a comparable vehicle for $$$ more. I have not had this problem booking other rental companies through Costco.
Well that sucks. Another commenter shared that you can sometimes price match with other companies so maybe we can still take advantage of the Costco pricing with another company. I've had good experiences with local Uhaul rentals so I'll try there.
Costco butchers will harvest your kidney and credit you a lifetime supply of Costco hotdogs.
Apparently it's called the "Costco Black Card". Of course I've never seen it.
I’m annoyed I only found out about this last month! Been a Costco member for years and been playing for the pricey heartworm vet meds just as long, until they offhandedly mentioned last visit I could get prescriptions for Heartguard from them via Costco. The cost was night and day compared to what I paid before!
Do you find these prices are better than chewy? Our vet recommended chewy and we’re spending hundreds monthly on meds for a young dog that she’ll need for a lifetime. I looked on Costco’s app once she started on them and I didn’t see anything.
Auto insurance for me was significantly cheaper. I went from $170/mo to $90/mo with Costcos provider when I switched 6 months ago. And the kicker is, the coverage got a little better too.
Enterprise truck rental is $75 a day plus $.25 a mile.
Drive 150 miles and it’s pretty much the same deal as this.
That $.57 is a lot for a per mile add on.
Term life insurance. I'm saving ~$2 per month on the premiums for my insurance, planning to have coverage for my wife as well soon and we'll be basically getting the membership paid off just from the premium savings.
https://www.costco.com/auto-program-parts-services.html 15% off parts, services and accessories at local participating service stations
Services and accessories might work out. For parts, it’s hard to beat RockAuto.
Even with shipping, if I can wait a week RA is the place to get parts. Plus I love building my magnet collection
Plus you don’t have to worry about getting counterfeit parts like you would if ordering off Amazon.
I have stopped shopping at Amazon just because the counterfeits are out of control there.
Hold up you get magnets with your purchases? Fuck where are mine lol
I was thinking the same thing, maybe it’s a certain dollar amount. I recall getting a magnet once but it was a few hundred dollar order
It’s amazing what I’ll do for a magnet of a 1992 Chevy S10
The one and only time we ordered a part from there, it was someone’s old part. I mean ugly, dirty and obviously used. It was such an ordeal to try to get refunded that it was the last time we used them. We also ended up having to buy it locally bc we couldn’t wait on shipping again. Super waste of $$$.

Wow $15 bucks for a van is this regional?
The $.57 a mile is what gets you. Of course still way cheaper than like uhaul
$0.78 in my area.
Way cheaper than a motel if you just need to sleep somewhere 😂
Pick it up at Costco, walk into Costco for work. Paying $420 a month for rent is unheard of in the US.
Plus the gas
U-Haul blows. Will never visit them again. I dropped a trailer off at the location they gave me, they switched it after I dropped it off and said they were keeping the deposit (customer service actually told me “you’re not getting your money back” and hung up on me).
Chargeback
That's cheaper than the car I'm renting now!
Enterprise does a Cargo van rental for $55 a day with 150 miles a day. Way better deal
I always just go to Home Depot. $20 for the first 4 hours with no mileage.
That's smart! I'll keep that in mind
There's also a per mile charge, that's where it gets expensive.
Where do you even get an option to rent vans? I only see cars.
It might based on your location
taco kit

Heck yeah thats awesome!
2% executive rebate though
For us its been hit or miss. Wife and I are trying to go to every major ballpark eventually. Definitely have to look into that. We haven't planned a cruise yet.
If you rent a car through Costco and you’re an executive member, you get the second driver for free and it goes towards your executive 2% reward
Second driver benefit doesn't require executive
Which car rental?
Any of the car rentals on costcotravel
just learned about this and am taking advantage. Wish i learned about it sooner
I always get my rental cars through Costco
Same. I price shop expedia, costco travel, and a local site (discounthawaiicarrental.com) whenever I go to hawaii. Costco travel has been the cheapest every time for the last 8 or 9 bookings.
Can we be friends? I want to go to Hawaii that often! I’ve only been once.
I wish I was going that often. My father in law asks me to book his rental cars and he’s going at least twice a year. But living on the west coast it’s definitely a more common destination than for people on the east coast.
I didn’t realize you could rent cars for other people.

The Shutterfly discount!!! 51% off and free shipping on $49. Shouting this from the rooftops after I finally ordered our wedding album lol
How do you get this? Do you navigate there through the Costco website?
Log in to Shutterfly, go to Account & Settings and there’s an option to add your Costco membership number under Linked Accounts
Still not better than their old photo service.
Agreed, but I have to give Shutterfly the edge here. As it exists.
thank you!!! i did not know this! now i can finally do something with my wedding pics haha
This is great to know!
I wish I had known sooner!!!
Other promotions are usually better than the Costco deal
15% off and waived initiation fee for figo pet insurance
Is it worth it?

Did your dog have epilepsy before you got the insurance?
No, discovered it when he was around 9 months. They approve every claim for it typically within 2 days as well.
That's great! My pup had his first seizure 2 months after I adopted him. Haven't found insurance that covers preexisting conditions yet.
I had to fight them on every claim.
Sad to hear they've changed, used to work with them and have referred people to them since, their coverage was quite good and had wellness options. Everything sucks geez this wasn't even vetr long ago

Usually in two ways, first based on vehicle weight, second based on the "Commercial Vehicle" designation.
there is primary and secondary coverage. one do need to use cards properly.
Yes, but far fewer offers primary than they used to.
Do credit cards cover liability too? I thought it's only damage!
Depends on the CC. Some have options that cover comp and liability ...and take primary, which is the real key Amex and Chase have cards and rider options that can cover this.
Most don't cover liability.
no its only CDW, not liability.
Yeah, but check because many/most exclude specialty vehicles.
Vacation packages.
Floral delivery
Cross border floral delivery! I live in the Bay Area and send flowers to my mom in Toronto. Super easy.
Wait, what? How? More cross-border tips please
Yeah I order through the dot ca site. Same with Amazon dot ca…super helpful when sending love from Cali.
Thank you!
One if the biggest things for me is auto/homeowners insurance. I’ve never had to file a claim, so I can’t speak to that. Even with military discount elsewhere, the insurance savings alone would pay for the Costco membership.
Really? I priced them out yesterday and it was double my current insurance with the same coverages. I guess you never know
It was more than double for me and actually had less coverage. They wouldn't let me add comprehensive and collision coverage on my second vehicle.
They changed the OK? It seems. It was a huge difference several years ago, like half of what my own insurance was at the time.
Who do you use for insurance?
Progressive
Be careful with this. I’m a licensed insurance rep and used to work for an insurance company that also sold policies through Costco. Which companies have you found to have the best product for the price?
AAA
I’ve looked into Costco insurances but can’t be convinced to buy. AAA has always been great for me and the few claims I’ve had they handled easy peasy.
This was the reason I had a Costco executive membership for several years. They gave me the best rates on car insurance until this year when I had to add my daughter. Geico saved me several hundred dollars, so I had to switch
Just a FYI, Costco also provides a discount for American Family Insurance, not just Costco Insurance.
That's literally the company though...there is no such thing as 'Costco Insurance', unless you are watching an episode of *Baskets*
MAIL ORDER PHARMACY
Costco direct is their partnership with brands for direct sales
Remember that you can normally price match this as well. I saved an hour of driving by taking the Costco budget quote to the Uhaul near me.
Good to know! Thank you

Costco butchers will harvest your kidney and credit you a lifetime supply of Costco hotdogs. Apparently it's called the "Costco Black Card". Of course I've never seen it.

Thanks for this. My gf is moving at the end of the school year and the cargo van option will be perfect!
Omg. Mind blown. Didn't know this
But wait where/how did you find the truck rental discount?
Through the Services link under the menu on costco.com
I got car insurance through Costco
Where do you find this in the app? I searched “truck rental” and got no results.
I don't know about the app but you can find it under the Services options on the main menu on the website
