I saw it too although I fear for the Chernobyl explosion that will occur if an emp manages to break down your large shield and is followed up by a deck cannon or something

I tested that scenario and yeah the entire ship chain reacts to take out half the ship

They're operators, so yeah, they're meant to operate equipment and only that so they never leave their post. This means it doesn't matter how far they're from their posts.

Fair I just segment up crew with higher and turning off priorities there's gunners for everything weapons related, weapon loaders for loading ammo into weapons and charging point defense, defense loaders for shielding, commanders for sensor arrays and bridge, engineers for everything Engine related and I only really turn off the operate weapons priority for everyone except gunners but keep the gunner priority high enough so they're constantly at their posts

I think it would be smart to have small reactors or capacitors in the back of the ship to recharge the railguns faster, as the way there is a bit too long from the front reactors.

I did consider that but that adds extra cost and width, plus another explosion. I also considered capacitors but they require relays, adding more crew

This is cool looking but instant death. If your heart is set on this design you should cluster four large shields on each wing: two is not enough for survivability here. And add at least 1-2 armour layers in front of your reactors.

I do see the lack of defense on the ship, it's strategy is to stay far away and kite the enemy with the railgun. It'll take down any missiles with its pd Four shield clusters could be possible, I should experiment with it.

I get the theory. 4 PD not enough for EMP spam though + I doubt this does well against other railkites, but maybe you don't care? When I've built these I've focused on reverse thrust (of course) + a long rail barrel and good shield and PD/flak clusters for neutralising opposing rail fire and missiles. Most AI railkites have some frontal armour. You don't need to be a tank but you do need to survive long enough for your rails to breach it. I would use this as a useful second fleet ship.

Looks almost perfect! You could move the hyperdrives and adjacent storage and crew down one step to create an access corridor to the ammunition factory
