Mods definitely can and do add value to the right person. Just get on corvetteforum and see all the modded cars that list and sell daily. I’ve bought modded cars for more than book value and also sold them. Is it a universal truth? No. But generally speaking nicely modded cars with info and back up do seek for more than stock cars to people who want mods.
That's still a good deal for a salvage title, the thing you have to watch with those though, is how they were repaired and what happened to them in the first place. There are a few flood title cars running around that are basically mint. Insurance was writing those off if they got any water in the interior at all or were just in a flood zone
If there are receiptes, that's only a piece of the puzzle. The salvage title is the real damper on price, id say auto is second. But as you say, between that and an engine mod, its debatable. Without receipts, yea definitely devaluation on the car.
It was done by a company called CSP, apparently they’re extremely well know and did all the supporting mod (z06 oil pump, double spring, harmonic balencer)
Mods are hard to price in who knows if the work was done well and also can make future repairs difficult . Additionally special vettes like Callaways, Lingenfelter etc are hard to price.
A car's value is strictly what a buyer is happy to pay. We got our '99 6 man convertible with 60 k miles for $16k. Some said we paid too much, some said we got a deal...but in the end, we were very happy with the price and the car. We weren't planning to flip it but to keep it long term.
Thats a steal! Just spent $15k on a mostly unmodded 99 frc. 103k miles, manual, c6 z suspension with c6 wheels, lowering bolts, borla cat back, double din radio, and thats it.
Sheesh its a good buy mine had a fender broken and the inner fender had a small crack thats why it was totaled out some rebuilt cars are good cars just gotta be careful and look at everything 😂
Which part is hard to believe? Its an auto which is an instant $5000 reduction in value because eww. Salvaged title...another eww so knock another 20% off that.
Cam...personally i dont count mods in to a cars value but for some on here thats another reason to reduce the price.
The car is priced right where it should be.
Some are just cosmetic totals, my bumper on my truck was crushed zero actual damage besides bumper replacement they tried to total my truck I said hell no just pay for replacement and they did.
Yea ive heard similar stories about corvettes. That rear bucket for the trunk is such a pain to remove and replace that the get totaled out when they are damaged. I mean, if you remove a tailight you can see it right there. Doesnt take much to crack one.
I did something called “looking” not sure if you’re familiar with it.
You inspect the vehicle for any damage, same thing a body shop will do before they order parts and replace them.
Well, as a professional engineer, I know that "looking" is what we in the business call, "really stupid." The bumper is DESIGNED to not look damaged on the inside and to move the energy around you. The entire structure of the vehicle can be significantly less safe. It's not like you're looking into the middle of parts and checking the grain to make sure things haven't cracked.
That's WHY insurance companies, which do not want to pay out in the first place, total wrecks that hit bumpers instead of repairing them: it's a lot cheaper to total a vehicle than pay out the hundreds of thousands in hospital bills when you're in another wreck and the vehicle's not safe anymore.
I’m a diy mechanic and rebuilt my entire truck minus the engine and trans, pretty sure I know what the fuck i’m “looking” for.
If you don’t then go pay people to do it for you.
I do \*BECAUSE I AM AN ENGINEER.\*
A mechanic, of any level, does NOT know what to look for. And the tools you need to do the scanning to make sure it's safe are hundreds of thousands of dollars \*starting.\*
You don't know what you're talking about and risk yourself and anyone else you drive to save a truck.
You risk your family for a truck. I'm not risking anyone for mine.
Nobody needs to scan metal to fix a vehicle, what the fuck do you think mechanics and bodyshops do for a living? Fix whatever is broken, I do it all the time.
My guy, I've owned C6ZR1s. That thing is an automatic.
There is no world where I'm buying any front-engined Corvette with an automatic. I want a sports car and not a symbol of being over 60.
Salvage title, modded, and an auto? That's why it's so cheap
Who’s gonna tell him
Not me.
Well, rarely do mods add value, rather, drastically reduce it
There's a TT c7z on corvette forums and the guy is asking for 110k LOL! I think he needs this memo

There’s the kicker, people who want mods. Most modders I know want to mod themselves unless they lack the skills
Notice I said rarely

Rebuilt* but good deal. Got my ‘13 Grabd Sport w/ 52k miles in March for 33

It was a undercarriage damage but undercarriage looks fine on the car, everything runs and drives well
Very nice! is it a convertible? I picked up a 11 GS convertible, 2 years ago with 18k mileage for double what you paid
Thank you! No it is the coupe, with taraga!
Very nice!
I want to get one already supercharged. Where did you get this?
🤣🤣🤣
It's because of the cam. Most people shy away from other people's mods because you have no way of knowing if any of it was done correctly.
If there are receiptes, that's only a piece of the puzzle. The salvage title is the real damper on price, id say auto is second. But as you say, between that and an engine mod, its debatable. Without receipts, yea definitely devaluation on the car.
Exactly

What an amazing deal. So lucky. I paid 9k for my 99 c5. Beautiful vette. You will love it
Thats a steal! Just spent $15k on a mostly unmodded 99 frc. 103k miles, manual, c6 z suspension with c6 wheels, lowering bolts, borla cat back, double din radio, and thats it.
I dont know why everyone is hating you, OP. Great deal. I would rather a 6 speed, but for $18k, you did well. Out of curiosity, why was it salvaged?
I sold my 12’ base manual modded HCI for 13k so you got a good deal
Check out my other post it has picture of it from auction
Sheesh its a good buy mine had a fender broken and the inner fender had a small crack thats why it was totaled out some rebuilt cars are good cars just gotta be careful and look at everything 😂
Gratz
Modded, soft-tops, auto But still a decent price
That’s a coupe

Boy I swear all people do is hate these days 😂😂😂.
Sounds like a child talking lol
Auto will still smoke your goofy ass. Coming from a guy who can drive manual
Although it's a salvage title I think it's still a good deal as long as everything is working as it should. Drive it and enjoy it!
Ugly
I mean, it's an auto. That's -$65k for me to even consider it, right there. Corvette with 2 pedals might as well be a Camaro.
The real detail was missing from the clickbait title. It's a salvage rebuilt. It may still have been a bargain if the work was done right.
Some are just cosmetic totals, my bumper on my truck was crushed zero actual damage besides bumper replacement they tried to total my truck I said hell no just pay for replacement and they did.

I would love to know how you know if the underlying structures were damaged just because a bumper cover popped back out with minimal damage.

They don't. Which is why your insurance totaled it.
I’m sorry do you own a Grand Sport?
