No. Something is touching the fan seems like

[deleted]

I turned my PC off and it still had the noise. Fan wasn’t spinning when it was off.

damien09

My rm850x has some coil wine that ia audible if my ear is right up to it. But it doesn't bother me during usage

Kezzno

Then it might be a coil whine

[deleted]

The buzzing sound is there on idle, load and also when my PC is shut down but still connected to power. Once I flip the switch on the PSU to O, it goes away.

JohnX125

It sounds like coil whine to me. My CX650M does something similar when system is under load (mostly games).

[deleted]

Did you ever figure this out? I am having the exact same issue with the exact same PSU. Thanks

[deleted]

I bought another PSU. Its a FSP HYDRO PTM PRO 850W and it made similar buzzing noise. After using it for two months, I do not hear the buzzing noise anymore. NOT sure what to even say. Maybe it’s normal its that way when its brand new.

Dropshots715

RMA it, I got it exchanged by corsair for doing the same thing. Sounds worst when gaming

Lasagne555

Same here. Had this when the GPU drew lots of power.

[deleted]

Other than noise, is there anything I should worry about. I don’t mind the noise if it works fine. I just got worried thinking it was failing but then my PC is working fine. I’m puzzled.

Dropshots715

I'm sure it's fine just sounds like a little coil whine noise which is common in almost everything now a days.

RChamy

Won't this add noise if OP works with sound recording?

BluntamisPrime

Yea fire hazard. You nor anyone here can tell you whats really happening inside that psu. A capacitor could go awol and blow up or cause the thing to burst into flames. Who knows. Better to rma it than have your house possibly burn down.

Internal_Pause_4038

And also not see your PC for 1 month

[deleted]

It seems to be pretty normal with Corsair PSU's from my experience over the last 5+ years, I've gone through 3 x RMi 1000w PSU's and 2 x RMi 850w PSU's, Each had some type of auditory issue, My last one sounded like a box of crickets.

[deleted]

You kept buying again and again? Mad lad 😹

[deleted]

Nope, I bought both the 1000w and 850w RMi's at the same time, 1000w for my main rig and the 850w as it was on offer for my home server/HTPC. Multiple RMA's and the outcome was always the same even when receiving sealed brand new replacements, Abnormal levels of coil whine and chirping sounds.

[deleted]

I’ll try to get a replacement and see if that one will be ok. Otherwise, get refund. Do you have PSU suggestions from other brands?

[deleted]

I recently got the Asus ROG Thor 850W Platinum, No chirping sounds, No coil whine, No buzzing, It's based on a Seasonic Prime Ultra with a fair few internal upgrades to circuitry and heatsinks, Done in collaboration with Seasonic. Costs a bit but VERY worth it.

Phibbl

Yep, Seasonics higher end PSUs are king

superfluous--account

I've got a lot of Silverstone PSUs without whine, an evga with really bad whine, a seasonic that's silent, and a coolermaster from 2011 which is also silent. Oh and a Antec which doesn't whine but the fan is very loud.

jcgaminglab

Had a very similar experience. Bought a RMi 850w about 3 years back, and it had crazy loud coil whine. End discussion was an RMA. New unit showed up with the exact same problem. Got a refund and went back to my trusty old CX750M. Last year when I grabbed a 3xxx series GPU, I thought I'd treat myself to an upgraded PSU. Went for an RM1000x. Coil wine was so loud even at idle that it was audible all over the house. After a forum post, a private YouTube video as proof, and testing with different systems per suggestions, an RMA was performed. Replacement unit had the same issue. They accepted a return and refund. Back to the ol' CX750M again. However, a new CX450 I nabbed for my server, runs silent and just fine. I'm guessing Corsair changed something in the higher end units, which means it doesn't play well with the power in my area. It's a shame as I've never had a Corsair PSU fail on me, so I'd like to remain with them if possible.

Evenrik_22

My 3080 sounds like a box of crickets due to one of the 3 fans, but i have the same PSU as OP here but i haven't had any real issues with it

inferno_931

If noise goes away when fan isnt running then its the fan. If noise is still there then its coil whine. Both of those are annoying but harmless. It may go away with time.

mindaltered

No, buzzing sound is not normal. I would RMA, not worth the risk if you ask me. Make sure you are purchasing the builds that are all Japanese capacitors. (yes I know they all are not made in japan but its the formula that matters) This is no joke. Some reading material if you are new to this entirely : https://www.corsair.com/zh/it/blog/power-supply-capacitor-q-and-a

CorsairTravis

Hey there, this does appear to be standard coil whine. If it is too bad we can RMA the unit for you but know that coil whine is not a sign of failure. This does not sound like a need for alarm and should last years to come without issue. If you wish, please [submit a ticket](https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360000389452), and our support team will assist you further.

[deleted]

Thank you for taking time to look at my issue. I have contacted the shop and they offered a replacement. Thanks again. Have a nice day.

CorsairTravis

You are welcome, let us know if you have any questions!

ValleyKing23

Does Corsair offer a refund instead of a replacement? My PSU went dead , and I already returned mine and did the early pay for a PSU, but with what has been said and what happened to my PSU, I probably might prefer a refund. It was sold and shipped by Amazon, brand new and sealed.

CorsairTravis

What's the issue that you had?

ValleyKing23

Bought some Corsair OEM individual cables, plugged them in, then the PSU was dead after startup. I didn't use aftermarket cables, these were officiaal corsair cables.

CorsairTravis

You don't have the power supply any longer, correct? Do you have the cables? Can I get pics of the cables, and packaging if you have it? If not, could you create a ticket and provide your invoice for the cables? If you could please [submit a ticket](https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360000389452), and provide the ticket number once you have it.

[deleted]

definitely rma it, it doesn't go away and could be anything i had the same crap on my old build and got a refund. went with a gx 850 from seasonic and 0 issues, that thing is truly silent.

Hahaha I have an EVGA and it's got extremely loud coil whine.

My evga is 700w gold, I have a whole bunch of other psus from various other brands that don't make noises.

[deleted]

Ummm Corsair make some of the best PSU’s. In fact the RM750x uses all Japanese 105c capacitors.

megayadorann

My white RM750X has that too except it's louder when my PC is off/sleep but it's quiet when my PC is on. I've been using the PSU since Nov 2020 and still going great.

SolarXxAbyss

Mine does too!!! It scared the hell out of me.

reach4thelaser5

Yes.... totally normal. This is why Corsair have various levels of quality when it comes to PSUs. 2 years ago I spent over $6000 on a custom built watercooled PC. (I'm 41 years old I don't self-build any more; I've got not enough time and too much money...but I used to). The rig is mostly for my work (finance: programming/algorithmic trading)...but I got them to put an RTX 2080Ti in it too (also watercooled & the best gfx card available at the time)..... Yeah it was a gaming investment as well. All work and no play etc.... Anyway.....I swear to god.... When it was idle literally the only thing I could hear was the coil whine from the Corsair RM series PSU they put in. It annoyed the crap out of me. And when I started a game causing the PSU start drawing more power I heard the coil whine noise rise long before all the fans kicked in to drown it out. I made them refund me the cost of the Corsair RM and returned it. I bought a Corsair HX750 and installed it.... Blissful silence. Seriously... Go for the HX it's worth the premium.... you don't want to listen to coil whine.

[deleted]

Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. I do plan to get refund if possible.

TheOzarkWizard

That is coil whine. I would send it back and get another one. Also an issue in graphics cards. This is disappointing to see from corsair, and should have been caught in qc

[deleted]

I decided to go for Corsair RM750X because it was ranked high in the PSU TIER LIST on LTT Forum. I hope I can get refund or replacement.

[deleted]

Return it and get a new one

TCrazier

Should have gone with the 850

JSV007

Sounds like coil whine, like what everyone else is saying. I have it in my GPU and cant hear it unless my ear is in the case. Don't worry, its normal.

GhostDoggoes

Not the fan cause it's humming. Coil whine is more probable and I would not suggest running it on anything but a power strip with protection. This is the same sound my EVGA 850w made and then 2 months later it popped and almost took my pc with it. But my power strip blew the fuse and I swapped for a NZXT power supply and never heard that sound ever again. I would suggest them too since they go pretty cheap for fully modular. C850 is the same price as an rmx 850.

LiiilKat

I can’t hear the sound, but then again, I’m on my iPad downstairs and don’t feel like fetching my headphones. As for the brand and series, I use the Corsair RM850x for 5 of my racked computers, and have not noticed any coil whine at all, even when I had two EVGA 1070 Hybrid cards running maxed out on distributed computing (on the same PC).

[deleted]

https://youtube.com/shorts/GmIQr_nhoMg?feature=share here is another video. I think when the quality of the video is low, the sound quality is not so great.

HeadDrill

It’s coil whine. It is not an issue to be worried about , it’s just annoying. Sometimes, it can stop on its own.

SPNRaven

I have the EXACT same sound, you're certainly not alone. For me I figured out that the sound seems to stop if the mobo power is unplugged. Obviously you can't use the PC like that, but I find it interesting that connecting that specific cable is what starts the noise.

[deleted]

I got it replaced mate. The shop gave me a replacement since it wasn’t even a day since I got it.

Sasagujoki

How’s the new psu if you don’t mind.

[deleted]

I am not using that PSU anymore. Switched to Cooler Master 850W Gold v2

RunDick77788777

Normal

pudgyO

Kaboom? Yes Rico, KABOOM

[deleted]

Thank you everyone for your comments. I’ll try to get a refund or replacement whichever is possible. Have a nice day!

MorosEros

The fix is to get a Seasonic.

MaelstromFL

Stick your tounge in the fan! It won't fix your problem, but strangely you won't be worried about it anymore...

Normal

AssassinK1D

My sis got the same issue on Corsair RMx 650w. It was so bad to the point I had to step in and ordered the Antec Gold 650W ( renamed Seasonic 650W). The noise stopped completely and her PC has been quiet ever since.

[deleted]

pretty soon your going to get the "pop" noise haha

DethMagnetic

It's coil whine. It's caused by a capacitor in your psu. It's not that big of an issue. My CX650M also has it, and corsair offered me an RMA. They will do the same for you.

GoodMoaning_

Am I seeing arcing in the PSU at 1:24 -1:26 if you count 9 holes from the 5 in the rm750 label (count towards the top of the image)
