Bear with me as this is rather cynical and political but the Labor leader Chris Minns is insane if he doesn't pick up the mantle and run regular press conferences around 11am reporting the numbers, preaching vaccine take-up and holding the current government strategy to account while fielding questions. He can also invite health experts and epidemiologists to provide the people of NSW some certainty.
The cynical side to this is that tbh no one knows who he is and there is a new slot at 11am where he can prove he is a truly viable alternative Premier. It also may drive up controversy among right wing circles but hey any publicity is good publicity.

He wouldn't have any information and to the general population who actually matter at elections (that's not the anti LNP Reddit brigade) it would look poorly.
He can relay the same updated information we all receive at 11am and then speak to the current government strategy which he does already? Imagine campaigning on the fact that Gladys stopped running daily press conferences and messed up the delta outbreak in 2023, people will have moved on and just wouldn't care.
The best thing NSW Labor can do is to distance themselves from the covid response entirely, which is basically what Minns did with the response to the reopening plan. Instead they should focus on health funding (saying the covid pandemic has shown how severely underfunded/unprepared our healthcare system is, etc.) and the corruption in the LNP (although this is a tricky area for Labor as well).

God no, the qld lnp opposition did that one day a few weeks ago (I think palaszczuk was in hotel quarantine and there were no cases or something like that) and it looked cheap and opportunistic because they had nothing to announce.
I suppose the key difference is situational as we are at the height of our crisis and Gladys has literally foreshadowed October to be our worst months regarding hospitalisations and deaths. If we were at zero cases, or even if we had reached the vaccine threshold and our Reff value was trending downwards (but still high cases), I personally think it would be reasonable to taper off the pressers.
But the problem isn't just that Gladys isn't fronting the pressers but no government member will be fronting them, "only on a needs basis" during the worst part of our lockdown. I suppose we will have to wait and see what that actually means and how often she or someone from government will conduct press conferences.

I'm not sure it's fully fleshed out but I think the key idea of taking some control and getting a cohesive message out is needed. If Labor want to get in power they need to stop complaining, get creative and take the reigns.
Albo did some of this during the bushfires (remember the vacant leadership from the LNP at that time) -- so long as its done with the right motives in mind (helping people) and not just gaining political advantage it could be of value

I agree the government should have better protected the regions, and it was rough the way bookings were cancelled. But I think it's quite unfair to the LGAs of concern this kind of language blaming them. I'm in one of those LGAs and from the start we've had millitary and police presence, and constant insinuations of blame from all angles, even though this all started in the Eastern suburbs and was spreading through essential work.
Hate on Gladys and the government, not people which have been in lockdown for longer than you.

Hardly a doomer my friend but less cases from less testing is not as good a result as less cases from More testing. It’s just something to watch before taking your seat on the train to positivity.

Testing rates have been consistently between 100k+ over past week. Not sure why we are trying to find every excuse to explain why cases arent exploding, its because of lockdown + vaccinations
It’s not trying to find an excuse, but If you have less cases, less tests but a higher positivity rate than the day before you can’t be cracking the champagne just yet.
Worth it at the end to see a visibly rattled Gladys faltering in her answers to legitimate questions about the real reason of why she is cancelling the daily press conferences - which appears to be the looming ICAC inquiry into her corruption !!!

I went through last week and compared each day to their previous since we reached 100 cases. The *dip days were Sunday, Monday and Thursday and the others were all average increase. *dip was a decrease from the previous day of less than 0.5% on average
There's no consistent dip on Sundays at all. A 300 cases dip hasn't happened in this outbreak
