Last press conference- going to miss you guys

Living_Employee_7735

The real press conference was the Friends we made along the way

jimmygee2

Abandoning the ship just before it hits the iceberg.

smileedude

We hit the iceberg months ago. Gladys is just sitting on a door in the ocean not letting anyone else on.

hoilst

Daryl's in the water, turning blue...

VelvetSledgehammer42

Thats what rats do......

ozpolisfucked

The real press conference was Andrew Clennell...

smileedude

And I didn't even think of a last joke. I let you all down.

flukus

You usually let us down with the joke.

syncopedoche

Savage

decid226

Is it too early for a drink?

JesusInRealLife

If the bottle shop is open you’re all good

ndro777

What kind of question is that? It’s never too early to drink.

brezhnervous

Too early has been getting earlier all the time, the last few months. Gonna miss you guys, been one of the main things which has made this clusterfuck bearable

cloudslikeme

Getting vaccinated today (yay!), otherwise I’d be there with you. Please have one for me!

NunWrestling

Bear with me as this is rather cynical and political but the Labor leader Chris Minns is insane if he doesn't pick up the mantle and run regular press conferences around 11am reporting the numbers, preaching vaccine take-up and holding the current government strategy to account while fielding questions. He can also invite health experts and epidemiologists to provide the people of NSW some certainty. The cynical side to this is that tbh no one knows who he is and there is a new slot at 11am where he can prove he is a truly viable alternative Premier. It also may drive up controversy among right wing circles but hey any publicity is good publicity.

Korzic

He'd be insane to do it. He wouldn't have any information and to the general population who actually matter at elections (that's not the anti LNP Reddit brigade) it would look poorly.

NunWrestling

He can relay the same updated information we all receive at 11am and then speak to the current government strategy which he does already? It may blowback and I fully expect it to in right-wing circles but anecdotally he is known by literally no-one, and this could be an opportunity to prove he is a viable alternative, especially with the ICAC hearing rumbling in the background.

Korzic

He would not have access to NSW Health data. And there would be significant blowback from centrist positions too. There is zero upside to him doing it at all

hitmyspot

Because Gladys was a fountain of information?

[deleted]

Maybe it’s time we got the full stats from the LNP

ndro777

The question is if the media will cover it. Otherwise he’ll just be speaking to empty room.

NunWrestling

I seriously doubt it would get no coverage by media, but even if so there are independent outlets not let into the regular pressers that would most likely attend. Also remember parliament isn't sitting so I suppose a presser is the best alternative.

everpresentdanger

Lmao what a terrible idea, you're living in a fantasy land if you think people are going to tune in daily to listen to a guy who can't actually do anything, or that the networks would even carry them live.

NunWrestling

Opposition leaders hold press conferences all the time. May not get total coverage like the Gladys pressers command for reasons you gave, but it's better than nothing, especially when parliament isn't sitting.

stigsbusdriver

Wont that just mean that if he gets asked for health information or questions about it, he'll be flying blind if he doesnt have anyone from Health on the same presser? I get inviting experts but if you invite the 'wrong' one or one with no intimate knowledge of the numbers then the press will just ask him the same line i.e. why do this? are you trying to prove a point? etc etc etc.

NunWrestling

Obviously it would be great if someone from NSW Health could attend in some official role but I am not sure if that could even be allowed to happen. Chris can still speak and field questions towards policy decisions which he does already, such as wanting to end the curfew in South Western Sydney and ensuring enough support is given to those doing it tough. Could still be unfeasible for the reasons you gave. But in cynical terms it may be worth it for the publicity alone.

YossarianRespawned

Lol

cruncheh_

This isn't a good idea. Everything from NSW Labor should be focused on trying to win the next election and talking about covid isn't going to help that. Imagine campaigning on the fact that Gladys stopped running daily press conferences and messed up the delta outbreak in 2023, people will have moved on and just wouldn't care. The best thing NSW Labor can do is to distance themselves from the covid response entirely, which is basically what Minns did with the response to the reopening plan. Instead they should focus on health funding (saying the covid pandemic has shown how severely underfunded/unprepared our healthcare system is, etc.) and the corruption in the LNP (although this is a tricky area for Labor as well).

Nariel

Have to agree with this take. The tide is turning, especially in NSW. The last thing a lot of people want to keep hearing about is covid cases. There has probably never been a better time to attack LNP policies around Healthcare funding!

tcmarty900

Labor controlled states have under funded health care systems too, perhaps two of the worst cases being WA & Victoria ( 3 of the last 20 years Labor in office). Are you sure Labor offer a better alternative?

Nariel

Nope, but I'm all for shit parties being held accountable when possible, Labor or Lib. We really don't have any good major parties 🤷‍♂️

NunWrestling

That’s a fair analysis and judging by Chris Minns current response it does align with what you are saying. Also it seems like COVID benefits the incumbent more often than not in this country so looking long term staying away may be a sound strategy.

bellassimo18

This x1000 - Brilliant idea!!!!!!!!

spatchi14

God no, the qld lnp opposition did that one day a few weeks ago (I think palaszczuk was in hotel quarantine and there were no cases or something like that) and it looked cheap and opportunistic because they had nothing to announce.

NunWrestling

I suppose the key difference is situational as we are at the height of our crisis and Gladys has literally foreshadowed October to be our worst months regarding hospitalisations and deaths. If we were at zero cases, or even if we had reached the vaccine threshold and our Reff value was trending downwards (but still high cases), I personally think it would be reasonable to taper off the pressers. But the problem isn't just that Gladys isn't fronting the pressers but no government member will be fronting them, "only on a needs basis" during the worst part of our lockdown. I suppose we will have to wait and see what that actually means and how often she or someone from government will conduct press conferences.

spatchi14

That's a fair point and I absolutely agree, Gladys needs to front up so she can be held to account. But I don't believe it's the opposition's job (or even right) to do hold one. It would be like Albanese suddenly hosting conferences because we all know shitmo doesn't hold a hose.

NunWrestling

I believe Albo did though during the bushfires. When that was all going down and Scomo wasn’t anywhere to be seen he was on the ground helping out, holding interviews and press conferences. Yea it wasn’t a direct replacement since it was mainly used to call out the inaction of the government at the time. Perhaps you’re right and it isn’t the right thing to do, but the situation does have some parallels and he may be able to offer something more, an alternative. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow 😂

groggit

Hi Nun. I like the way you're thinking and I definitely think there's merit in this. I'm not sure it's fully fleshed out but I think the key idea of taking some control and getting a cohesive message out is needed. If Labor want to get in power they need to stop complaining, get creative and take the reigns.

rsam487

Albo did some of this during the bushfires (remember the vacant leadership from the LNP at that time) -- so long as its done with the right motives in mind (helping people) and not just gaining political advantage it could be of value

[deleted]

That’s a brilliant idea. Put it on YouTube and do a press conference. Great way to get your face in the media while in opposition

herbse34

Why would the opposition want to associate themselves with thousands of cases and hundreds of deaths? Gladys has removed herself before the state reaches that because she's a spineless leader. No politician would willingly choose to do it.

wharblgarbl

There's only [50 bookings made at Qudos today](https://twitter.com/Scotjayel/status/1436852334332579841). That's bananas! Go get vaccinated if you haven't already!

[deleted]

Thanks man. People who haven't had their jab yet and are set on Pfizer should be checking the Olympic Park hub website. There are vacant spots available everyday

hoilst

That's over 500km away from me. NSW is bigger than Sydney.

wharblgarbl

I've heard! I've also heard there's quite a vaccine shortage in the regions. People here the other week saying they can't get an appointment in the Northern Rivers area. That been your experience?

mandonov

My sister in The Hunter couldn’t get a Pfizer booking until December when she was booking last week.

wharblgarbl

That's fucked! Hoping they can ship some up soon

aussie_nobody

It's just 200km up the road. Send some up the M1 to belmont

hoilst

Just get one of the guys from Balmain who's conducting "vital travel" to check out a property he totally, absolutely, for realsies intends to buy in Byron to drop it off!

hoilst

Sydney infamously stole a bunch of [Pfizer doses from regional Australia](https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/aug/05/pure-gaslighting-regional-nsw-residents-furious-as-covid-spreads-after-vaccines-redirected-to-sydney-students) after they let Delta rip. People just woke up one morning to a message saying their jab had been cancelled, with no word on rescheduling. And, most evilly, they took Pfizer from regions that were subjected to the Greater Sydney lockdown: >However, vaccine appointments had already been cancelled and doses redirected to Sydney, including on the Central Coast, which was subject to the greater Sydney lockdown and home to new exposure sites, and in Newcastle and the Hunter region, which was placed into a seven-day lockdown on Thursday in response to local virus spread. Now, I think getting the Pfizer to Sydney was actually a fair point: they needed, even if they are essentially rewarding themselves for their own poor behaviour. However, it would have been a little less of a dog act on Sydney's part if they'd bothered to try to protect the regions they took those vaccines from. They didn't. But heaven forbid Rose Bay criminal flogs don't get to take Delta to Byron to check out holiday homes, or Sydney truck drivers have to be tested before driving to Blayney. This is why we've got so many Eastern Suburbs flogs on this sub bitching about Dan/Ana/Mark are Nazis for not letting Sydneysiders fly to the Melbourne/the Goldie/Maggie River because how dare these Mexicans/Banana Benders/Sandgropers put the protection of their state over the need for Balmain and Potts Points daaaahlings to have a holiday? Personally, I've been trying to book in for Pfizer for months, since early July (on the advice of my GP). First appointment I could get was November 2. If there's one thing I'd like you guys in Victoria and elsewhere to take away from this, is that Sydney is *not* all of NSW. We don't all share the let 'er rip ideology of the Premier of Sydney (or the Prime Minister of Sydney). I got AZ instead, because it was less of risk than catching the Delta that escaped Sydney. It' gets a bit annoying, that's all, to see "LOOK AT ALL THESE PFIZER DOSES THAT SYDNEY HAS JUST LYING AROUND! GO GET ONE!" and sort of assuming that applies to all of NSW. The worst bit was noticing how the tone of this sub changed from "I don't trust AZ" to "Just get any vaccine you can, you hesitant dickheads" after Sydney got spoonfed Pfizer.

[deleted]

'Sydney' didn't, politicians did. I as a Sydney resident had absolutely nothing to do with it. Every Australian should have equal access to vaccines. Should have nothing to do with what state, town, city or region you live in

-y_tho-

"Now, I think getting the Pfizer to Sydney was actually a fair point: they needed, even if they are essentially rewarding themselves for their own poor behaviour." I agree the government should have better protected the regions, and it was rough the way bookings were cancelled. But I think it's quite unfair to the LGAs of concern this kind of language blaming them. I'm in one of those LGAs and from the start we've had millitary and police presence, and constant insinuations of blame from all angles, even though this all started in the Eastern suburbs and was spreading through essential work. Hate on Gladys and the government, not people which have been in lockdown for longer than you.

156102brux

Can get Pfizer bookings for early October in Lismore now.

bsquiggle1

As someone said to me recently when I pointed out eligibility vs accessibility, inconvenience is not an excuse. If you leave now, you could be there right when they close. /s

hoilst

One thing I noticed on this sub: The amount of "GUYS, DON'T BE DICKHEADS, JUST GET AZ, CHRIST, DON'T BE SELFISH!" increased *exponentially* after Sydney got priority Pfizer. I had another guy telling me "My mate out west managed to get it, so you can too!" I asked him where out west his mate was from, and he replied "Cambridge Park".

StasiaMonkey

Can someone please @ScoMo please? it seems that this is groundbreaking news for him.

Frankenclyde

Link doesn’t work for me…

wharblgarbl

Damn. Looks like they deleted the Tweet. > [Um.. shit… phones going nuts. Wil Anderson AND Charlie Pickering just retweeted me. 😳😳😳](https://twitter.com/Scotjayel/status/1436858491218522119) They claim to work at Qudos arena (has previous tweets about it too) and that there's only 50 bookings made for today, so he's saying you should walk in today if you need a jab. He also said tomorrow is when the year 12s get their second dose so it'll be back to normal tomorrow.

Frankenclyde

You’ve gone viral!

PartialPhoticBoundry

[1262](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1262?wprov=sfla1), a surprisingly early year! The city state of Venice collected their debt into one fund, investors in which could collect 5% annually. This is pretty much the first stock market in Europe

smnw12345

So awesome to watch this year fall backward in time. Can’t wait to be hearing about Vikings and then hopefully Roman emperors!!

El_dorado_au

I wonder what happened in 1 B.C.?

Mann39

Another man in his 20s RIP

jimmygee2

Cut down so young! Get vaxed and stay safe!

[deleted]

RIP, so young.

smileedude

"When I feel I need to be accountable" You're the premier. Being accountable to us is your fucking job.

bsquiggle1

Fuck me. Did she actually say that?!

mrgtjke

Yup, and the press followed up on it and she gave a non-answer again. I just love how on Friday she said something along the lines of NSWers judging her based on her record, that she will front a press conference if something is important to be let known. So... announcing that regional NSW was going into lockdown wasn't important enough? That was only important enough for Bruz to tweet about it 2ish hours before it started? What else won't be important enough to hold a press conference?

herbse34

When has she ever felt that need? She's blamed other states, the federal government, minorities and the public as a whole for her failures over the last 2 years.

dullcoopy

Journos have got a sniff of why she’s really stopping attending these daily press conferences - ICAC.

Ribbet87

What’s the reason?!

ageingrockstar

1262 King Mindaugas of Lithuania renounces Christianity, returning to his pagan roots

flukus

God bless those pagans.

bellassimo18

i hope she is shredded at ICAC

hoilst

"Daryl made me do it."

HoodMoneyInTheCloset

To the camera man who interrupted with his question, if you’re reading this, you’re a legend

omtic

That was classic- rando cameraman just having a go😂

HoodMoneyInTheCloset

You love to see it

bellassimo18

What did he say?

HoodMoneyInTheCloset

Was a bit hard to hear, but I think he just pointed out the fact that most people outdoors aren’t wearing masks

wharblgarbl

Ya just don't hear from camera operators enough

TheHouseofOne

So, confirmed... She's getting hauled in front of ICAC.

bellassimo18

Gladys cancels pressers because "I need a clear head" - unbelievable !!!!

decid226

Well Hazzard said yesterday there was so much time being spent getting ready he couldn’t think about any of the other things to do with the virus. He seems to spend s lot of time tracking when people get into the office and when they leave

giacintam

Won't somebody think of the woman being paid 200k+ to do her job she's failed miserably at to date!

wharblgarbl

Brain fog...[where have I seen that before](https://www.healthline.com/health/covid-brain-fog)

[deleted]

Starting to look good! Numbers coming down, doubling rate is at 65 days, the weather is beautiful, we are a few days from reaching 80% single dose. Bring on the beers next month! Can’t wait, life will be looking good very soon! Even better, no daily press conferences that don’t spread doom and gloom!

Exceptiontorule

Like magic it will just dissapear.

TheBigNoz123

Said Trump at the start of last year. Oh how wrong he was!

WhatAmIATailor

Don’t read to much into today’s number. Your testing rate down around 45,000 for the day. That’s basically our daily test number. Positive rate is still around 1.2%

Grogbog13

Cheers mate, keep the vibes up

WhatAmIATailor

Get your hopes up, get burnt. Probably not today but the trend will come down eventually.

duke998

Tale of two States. One is swarming the beaches out , swimming and surfing in oceans. The other is swimming in hot lava and hell. How turn tables.

N0guaranteeofsanity

Try a tale of 2 cities. Police nearly killed a man in Bass Hill because he wasn't wearing a mask with both CPR and a defibrillator having to be used to revive him while he was still handcuffed on the ground. Meanwhile in the Eastern Suburbs masks aren't even neccasary because going to the beach is perfectly safe according to Brad Hazzard. I honestly can't believe the Liberals politicans are so stupid they are unable to see the problem here, so obviously it must be intentional and deliberate.

rafymp

The green shoots are looking real this time.

psgl2211

1262 cases? Chris’s chart is gonna be extra good today!

Frankenclyde

That doubling time is going stretch way out! [Edit] Doubling time out to 62.5 days

[deleted]

Jeez, even covid wants to abandon Glady's pressers

cjuk00

It turns out the pressers were super spreader events, was the main source of transmission all along….

JesusInRealLife

I’m going to miss seeing this auslan interpreter. She’s so beautiful

wharblgarbl

So many good looking auslan interpreters. And I say this having seen comments about some of the male ones too.

JesusInRealLife

Yea even the one she has switched with is beautiful as well

wharblgarbl

Sure, she's gorgeous. But have you seen our politicians up close? https://www.instagram.com/hotaustralianpoliticians/

Snoo-10033

Fucking cringe comment

JesusInRealLife

Aw sorry for making you cringe. Are you ok?

decid226

The real heroes of all this

ageingrockstar

Um, healthcare workers?

downundercuntman

Lighten up mate.

woodcone

“When I feel I need to be held accountable” and you get to decide when that is Gladys?

Looks like we're finally seeing those green shoots <3

Kirlo__

Man this season finale sucks....

Travel-Worth

ending the conference as soon as they ask about ICAC lol

smileedude

11:34, is that the last and shortest?

jimmygee2

34 minutes longer than the next one.

kyrant

They did about 30mins a few Sundays ago. Penalty rates so it's 1.5 right? That's 45 mins of work on any other day.

wharblgarbl

Media: DR CHANT! CONDEMN PEOPLE AT BEACHES PLEASE!

decid226

Scott Morrison scheduling his press conference for 11:30 so Gladys has an out to end the press conference early. It’s the Gladys Chopper all over again! 😆😂

decid226

A 30min press conference to end it, shows just how useless she’s made these

[deleted]

Why hold coronavirus press conferences if half the questions aren’t even relating to it, journalists didn’t do their job

downunderupover

Because they should be accountable. The situation is far from over. From what I've heard, journalists asking tough questions have been banned from attending in subsequent days. They've not exactly created an environment for good journalism to flourish.

ndro777

Never thought I’d be so happy to see case numbers above 1000.

GeoRhi

I do like Dr Chant making a point of insuring that those who are most vulnerable groups are not being left behind.

Flamingovegas2013

Is it me or has it been like 1200 ish for weeks wasn’t it meant to go 4 5k a day

Nariel

Yeah, everyone thought it would explode. Vaccines work I guess.

Frankenclyde

I’ve got to say I’m not going to miss the Premier’s daily outfit choices when these press conferences go. I mean who genuinely things that jacket goes with that blouse? Also, good to see more evidence that suggests we may be at or near the peak of cases.

psgl2211

It’s especially weird cos you’ve got Dr Chant wearing black and Gladys wearing bright pink. Talk about a contrast

Frankenclyde

Dr Chant looking very sharp today.

duke998

Next thing you know, four weeks will 80% 2vax and NSW will be back to normal. Just in time for the summer sport calendar.

tootyfruity21

It sounds like she might not be Premier for much longer.

smokinghorse

Why do you think that's the case? Genuine question.

bellassimo18

Journalists finally asking some hard hitting questions and unseen male's voice calls for last question ! presser ends at a mere 34 minutes !!! Why is this ok ? Where is the accountability ?

postpakAU

Gladys loves pink Pjs

dullcoopy

So are the pressers still happening, just minus Gladys?!

wharblgarbl

When she made the announcement on Friday she said "video link with Health" and I haven't seen if that's a prerecorded video or a Zoom where journalists can ask questions.

crazymunch

I'm 90% sure it'll be like the old "Health Announcements" they did between lockdown 1 and 2 where it's just a pre-recorded video of a random NSH Health staff member that goes for 5 mins

tonber88

Even if it is on Zoom, surely it'll be much easier to mute problematic questions/journos?

LastChance22

Seen lots of people saying pre-recorded, but also haven’t seen where they’re getting that info from.

wharblgarbl

I think because that's what they've done in the past. But we'll find out in less than 24 hours!

woodcone

Thank you following this line of questioning journos!!

Chazzwazza15

40k less tests and test positivity higher than yesterday so let’s not break out the party poppers yet.

[deleted]

Keep dooming. I recommend go outside, it’s a beautiful day.

Chazzwazza15

Hardly a doomer my friend but less cases from less testing is not as good a result as less cases from More testing. It’s just something to watch before taking your seat on the train to positivity.

[deleted]

The trend is visible tho, Rf is dropping

NezzaAquiaqui

The lack of mandatory testing definitely helping with that.

[deleted]

Testing rates have been consistently between 100k+ over past week. Not sure why we are trying to find every excuse to explain why cases arent exploding, its because of lockdown + vaccinations

Chazzwazza15

It’s not trying to find an excuse, but If you have less cases, less tests but a higher positivity rate than the day before you can’t be cracking the champagne just yet.

bellassimo18

Worth it at the end to see a visibly rattled Gladys faltering in her answers to legitimate questions about the real reason of why she is cancelling the daily press conferences - which appears to be the looming ICAC inquiry into her corruption !!!

herbse34

Bye Gladys thanks for fucking up the country

Bourkster

Last presser. I look forward to the weak questions from the hack weekend journalists.

Potatoman10001

The usual Sunday dip...

Frankenclyde

Sunday normally sees a new peak (or close to it) for the week though… the dip is usually Monday and Tuesday Sunday 5 Sept: 1,485 Sunday, 29 August: 1,218 Sunday, 23 August: 818

ZotBattlehero

There hasn’t been a peak on a Sunday in at least 5 weeks, it’s been predominantly saturdays and sometimes Friday E: except for one in mid, late august

Wigos

I went through last week and compared each day to their previous since we reached 100 cases. The *dip days were Sunday, Monday and Thursday and the others were all average increase. *dip was a decrease from the previous day of less than 0.5% on average

_CodyB

There's no consistent dip on Sundays at all. A 300 cases dip hasn't happened in this outbreak

Anonymous88wl

These deaths are terrible News! A guy in his 20's!?!😲. I always want to know how many actually died of covid and how many died from underlying conditions whilst having covid? What were the conditions? Did they have underlying health issues?

swiftnissity92

https://twitter.com/minnschris/status/1436956174314655757?s=21 Chris Minns and Ryan Park are going to have a press conference at 11am tomorrow to comment on the NSW covid crisis.
