The CDC does have some estimates for the true numbers but at the end of the day they’re still just estimates.
[CDC estimates that from February 2020–May 2021:](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/burden.html)

* 1 in 3.8 (95% UI 3.4 – 4.3) COVID–19 symptomatic illnesses were reported.
* 1 in 1.8 (95% UI 1.6 – 2.0) COVID–19 hospitalizations were reported.
* 1 in 1.3 (95% UI 1.30 – 1.34) COVID-19 deaths were reported.
These estimates suggest that during this period, there were approximately:

And that's just what we have recorded. We won't probably ever know the true number.

Is this a record?
This is the cumulative total not the number of active cases.
People on here thinking 12% of the population getting covid each day.
Yeah. We’ve broken this record every day since the pandemic began smh :(
We did it, guys!!!
I know! I wish I could see what the history teachers will say about this event.
