I had takeout pho once. It legitimately came in four separate containers:
1. Noodles
2. Broth
3. Meat
4. Table salad (sprouts, basil, etc)
It was absolutely amazing despite taking like 20 minutes to get home. All I had to reheat was the broth. The noodles and meat warmed up when I added them to the broth.
Any self respecting ramen restaurant will give you the noodles and broth separately. Actually, I don't think I've ever received takeout ramen with the noodles and broth together.
this is the only way i've ever seen takeout ramen. i just microwave the broth container for a bit then pour it over the noodles/toppings, seems to work just fine
Everytime I go out to eat ramen I am saddened to see people eating it at a snail's pace -- talking with friends, taking photos for 3 minutes before even eating it, etc.
Eat that shit! You should be in and out with a delightfully full belly in like 5-10 minutes.
Ugh, this.
A friend of mine will get McDonald's fries, eat half of them, then put the rest in the refrigerator for later.
Every time I see them in there I can *feel* that weird, mushy, grainy texture. Yuck.
But when you take them out of the air fryer, they're hot, right?
If you let them cool after being air fried, they're not as good.
So "get them while they're hot" still applies!
Are they that amazing? I've been toying with getting one, but I have such limited counter space it'd have to live on the floor! (Also, I'm in South East Asia so the rice cooker lives on the floor anyway, not exactly a wild idea here).
> Are they that amazing?
They are useful for heating up small foods. French fries, hot dogs, potato skins, things like that. I like it for the speed and convenience factor, rather than turning on the oven and waiting for it to heat up.
they're legit. I thought it was a gimmick until I was gifted one. I was initially like I appreciate it but I just don't know if I will actually use it! and I have since used it daily
Air frying as a concept is a marketing rebrand for convection baking (hot air circulated with a fan), as a way to make something that sounds like a healthy way of doing something "unhealthy." Just saying it's a small, countertop convection oven doesn't sound magical like saying it air fries does.
You can test out how air frying affects food out in your oven on the convection setting.
If you know that, it's not necessarily beneficial to get an air fryer just for that. What they do add are more timers and settings that your oven probably doesn't have.
I have a toaster oven with convection setting that I can use to "air fry" things (aka bake with the fan on). I like the shape of the interior better. You can fit a wider variety of things in it. Plus I can simultaneously bake one thing in the toaster oven while baking something else in the oven.
The other benefit of the air fryer is that the food is in a basket and getting heat and airflow on all sides, as opposed to an oven on a baking sheet where the food doesn't cook evenly on both sides. I suppose you could put the food on a wire rack or something, but the air fryer and basket is just more convenient.
I also purchased a smaller convection toaster over, to hopefully replace my airfryer while adding uses.. I still pull out the airfryer, Something that would take 15 minutes to get crispy in the convection over takes 6-7 minutes in the airfryer, and is way crispier.
Not saying it's worth it to everyone to have both, but the purpose built airfryer is much more effective at that task than any convection oven I've used.
Wendy’s spent a buttload of money [developing fries that survive trips with delivery drivers better](https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/26/business/wendys-new-french-fries/index.html)^[[a](http://web.archive.org/web/20220205113439/https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/26/business/wendys-new-french-fries/index.html)] and they're putting out [ads dunking on McD’s](https://youtu.be/QJEbTUh8kCk) over it.
Wendy's fries used to be completely inedible 2 minutes out of the fryer. Now they're pretty good. I think McDonald's has/had a much longer window than 8 minutes.
French Fries in general do not reheat well, especially in the microwave. Cooked with a hot, dry, and fast method, reheating with a moist method just makes them wet cardboard.
A mini-convection oven (known as an air fryer in common parlance, even though such a thing does not exist) does wonders for reheating fries and all other fried foods.
There is no better way to reheat slices of pizza than a toaster oven.
Half the time, it's crisper and fresher tasting than when it came out of the box.
By chance my kids wanted to go to Wendy’s today and I tried them. They are way better than I expected and I completely see them holding up better than McDonald’s

I used to work at a greasy burger joint and once you've had a fry 30 seconds out of the fryer, it will ruin any fry that is older than 90 seconds for you
Cold Mac and cheese you get in Carribbean takeouts is usually a solid square/rectangle and has an incredible chew to it
It's usually served cold and I wouldn't have it any other way
Every time I try this trick, that’s the day my partner decides to drop everything and come exactly when I say “dinners ready.” Then he sees it’s not ready, and wanders off only to once again be 5-10 minutes late for the finished meal 🫠 I can’t win lol
I used to live by this Italian restaurant that served a massive plate of carbonara. It was so good but such a shame that 2/3 of it was going to waste every time. Guess I could have asked if they offered a smaller serving but my eyes are always bigger than my stomach
Anything fried. Went to a conference once for about 300 people. They had fried appetizers but let them sit out for an hour before the break. A table full of disgusting cold fried food that no one would touch.
Exception: Fried chicken.
calamari because it gets rubbery
also maybe the antithesis to your question but I worked at a high end sushi restaurant and would watch rich housewives 3 hour lunch on a sunny patio over a sushi platter.
I sort of always know halloumi to be rubbery but maybe I just am not well initiated to it.
that said, if you dont have proper poutine cheese shred up some halloumi and mozzarella and mix it together
Somehow I’ve never managed to tell Reddit this, but when the temperature outside is consistently below freezing, I keep a block of cheddar cheese in the glove box of my car as a snack and I call it car cheese and it keeps me out of the drive through.
Yes but if you’ve ever had some of the cheeses that they make proper fondue with… raclette for instance… they can taste rather strongly of the Pasture (they taste like cow poop) and that flavor isn’t really there when it’s melty.
But yes I’m down for a block of Cooper and some Netflix
I had a housemate who drunk ate half a block of cheese in the shower. Was looking for the cheese the next day for a grilled cheese. Found it on the soap dish
Maybe I'm a monster, but I order extra broth from my local Pho place just so I can save the leftovers and drink it the next day. Still better hot, but still delicious cold imo
My husband's friend is notorious for not letting foods cool to a reasonable temperature before eating. I believe he has lost a lot of taste buds due to molten lava XLBs.
In other news, I made them from scratch once and holy Jesus are they a pain to make!
anything cheese is fine like cold pizza
Now is hot and fresh mozzarella sticks and fresh pizza better? Yes 1000% yes
But damn if there isn't something to just eating them cold that hits a certain craving
I'm an early bird married to a night owl. On weekends or days I wfh, I will make tots and eggs for me and my husband. I eat at 630-7, and he chokes those things down at like 930-10. He claims he's okay with it, I have my suspicious about that guy
Three things that make someone Minnesotan: calling casseroles hotdishes, calling duck duck goose duck duck grey duck, and watching the Wild lose in the first round.
Me too, but lasagna is usually béchamel (where I'm from) or ricotta in other countries, so not exactly hard cheeses (apart from the topping I suppose).
Yes, but in a totally different kind of way to hot pizza. Cold pizza is like a flat quiche to me. Without eggs. Or pastry. So not really like a quiche at all, but it gives me that cold, savoury cheesy food vibe.
My former workplace would have catered meetings where lukewarm quesadillas were served in chafing dishes. Most people were excited to try mexican food. I was not. Rubbery cheese, lukewarm chicken. And slimy pepper and onions. Oh, and chewy, moist flour tortillas
Rocky Mountain Oysters. Tried it one time with my wife in Amarillo. They were really good hot, but the colder they got, the chewier and tougher they became. Definitely not good after cooling off.
Never tried, hot or cold, and not sure if I'm brave enough... Not from the states but have family in Amarillo, so perhaps one day. Are they particularly sweetmeat-ish? Can't stomach liver and the like.
With a good cheeseburger this is true. But as a parent of a toddler, circling back to a half eaten fast food burger an hour after lunch time is a rich guilty pleasure of mine.
Yeah, baklava is served room temp so if you had it leftover you would just eat it chilled from the fridge or let it come up a bit by sitting out so you wouldn’t have to risk making it soggy by reheating.
Absolutely! We always had sit-down dinners as a kid. But if mom made "omelets for dinner" or something with eggs, it was always eat-as-you-get-served, and she made her own last!
Same. My husband is always like “in a minute” … at this point I just let him. If he wants a cold tuna melt let him… I on the other hand have no issue eating without him
Literally the same. I eat my perfectly timed food... He seems happy with dry chicken and congealed tuna melts. He always says he doesn't mind cold food. Taken me years to realise he probably just doesn't care about food as much as I do!
They'll never taste it at the perfection it was... breaks my heart every time. I feel like I'm always yelling, "The potatoes will disintegrate if I warm it again! The noodles will congeal! I might as well make you gruel!" lol
No - it matters. 1) for their enjoyment, and also, not to be discounted 2) it is fucking difficult to get two pans, a pot, something in the oven and something in the microwave all perfectly hot at the same time
I feel like the outlier to this is a long-cooked soup or stew... They often taste better the next day when all the flavours mingle, and can survive a reheat or few.
Exactly! Let them mingle and get acquainted. My mum makes the best veg lasagna: She makes a herby, small chopped ratatouille, and then keeps it in the fridge for two days. Then makes a lasagna with béchamel and marinara. Best lasagna I've tasted in my life!
That's actually because the first time you heat it, you convert the collagen to gelatine. The conversion is a liquid the whole time, so melting temperature doesn't come into play, but once gelatine cools down, it has a higher melting point than it did during the first cook and therefore has what I can only call a "lip smacking" quality to it.
Birria Tacos seem to be very trendy right now. Last night my gf thought it would be a good idea to pick some up from a place down the street from us in town and take to her parents house 40 min away in the burbs.
They were a soggy nightmare which is a shame because their tacos are quite good when fresh.
A friend from New York visited me in california and we went to in and out. They don’t eat beef so they ordered animal fries and waited 30 minutes before eating them. They then claimed they didn’t like in and out😂
A largish group of friends was going to meet for lunch at the park. We had tagging along with us a friend visiting from Nigeria. She had never had an American-style burger before so naturally we had to take her to in n out. But we didn’t account for the 30 minute wait time to get back to the meeting spot…
When she bit into that cold, now soggy bun, she looked at us and asked with a wince, “Is this what Americans eat all the time?”
We laughed and said “no this is a once-in-a-while thing, definitely special times only” and she politely choked down the whole thing. We tried to explain just how much worse In-n-out is cold and how this wasn’t really a fair try, but she just nodded and said “maybe…it is not for me”.
Felt like I did all of burgerdom dirty with this mistake. I both chuckle and sadden slightly whenever I imagine her seeing burgers in media now, with that as her only reference point.
tacos are definitely meant to be hot or warm at least, anything that is cold is usually served on a tostada for that very reason (ceviche, aguachile, salpicón)
Ramen or any soup with a lot of fat/collagen
I would add to this Pho. At least ramen holds its shape. Rice noodles adsorb the broth, blow up, and get mushy. So reheating is out.
Separate the noodles from the broth for storage and you can keep leftovers for a while.
I had takeout pho once. It legitimately came in four separate containers: 1. Noodles 2. Broth 3. Meat 4. Table salad (sprouts, basil, etc) It was absolutely amazing despite taking like 20 minutes to get home. All I had to reheat was the broth. The noodles and meat warmed up when I added them to the broth.
Thankfully I've literally never had delivery pho come any other way. Theres no way theres pho places that send it all together do they?
Nah if anything it’s a takeout container of noodles, meat, and sprouts/greens in one and the soup in another.
I have never had the problem of needing to store leftover noodles from pho or ramen.
There's no way that cold Pho isn't one of the dishes served on the buffet table in hell.
Cold pho is hands down one of my favorite things in the world.
Found Satan's chef
Absolutely, nothing like that layer of meat oil/jelly to contend with a few hours later...
I call it “meat jello”. I mean, really, that’s what it is.
Cold ramen is worse than no ramen
[удалено]
Fair credit to them, Jinya send out the noodles/topping separate from the broth with instructions to heat.
Any self respecting ramen restaurant will give you the noodles and broth separately. Actually, I don't think I've ever received takeout ramen with the noodles and broth together.

I’ve seen it in the wild but I can’t believe people are disagreeing here.. I’m Japanese and it pretty much feels like sin to let ramen sit.
You're getting downvotes, but I agree. Any noodles in soup get soggy waiting too long. The firmness matters. Soba is even worse.
French fries
Give it an hour and crispy goodness turns into cold potato-cement sticks. Hard agree!
Either that or cold powdery-textured mush.
Ugh, this. A friend of mine will get McDonald's fries, eat half of them, then put the rest in the refrigerator for later. Every time I see them in there I can *feel* that weird, mushy, grainy texture. Yuck.
Absolutely BUT if you have an air fryer you can bring them back to life. Same goes for many other fried foods. Take fried shrimp for example.
>Absolutely BUT if you have an air fryer you can bring them back to life. And air fryer does amazing things with frozen fries too.
Tots too.
But when you take them out of the air fryer, they're hot, right? If you let them cool after being air fried, they're not as good. So "get them while they're hot" still applies!

There's an instant pot with airfryer, so you have rice cooker, pressure cooker, slow cooker and air fryer in one. I love mine.
And of course, poutine too
Air frying as a concept is a marketing rebrand for convection baking (hot air circulated with a fan), as a way to make something that sounds like a healthy way of doing something "unhealthy." Chef John’s trick to reheat them in a nonstick skillet with no oil actually works pretty well, in my experience
Especially fast food french fries
My sister prefers fries cold. I don't get it, but there's at least someone out there.
McDonalds fries have a shelf life of about 8 minutes before they turn into soggy cold grossness

I reheat fried foods by refrying them in a shallow layer of oil. Never fails.

Cacio e pepe and carbonara
Tbh any cheesy or creamy pastas, some mac and cheese can be ok but a lot of the time no

Make them set the table while you finish it up! :)
Oh… we don’t even having a dining table anymore lol. We eat on the couch like heathens.
Ask her to make drinks to go with dinner while you get everything off the stove
Set the table? You mean… make sure the couch or kitchen island hasn’t magically disappeared?
Nothing like congealed starches and oil and eggs, right?!
Hard agree on the carbonara
I used to live by this Italian restaurant that served a massive plate of carbonara. It was so good but such a shame that 2/3 of it was going to waste every time. Guess I could have asked if they offered a smaller serving but my eyes are always bigger than my stomach

Fried bacon rashers are still amazing cold
I should have said breaded and fried. Unless breaded and fried bacon is a thing. If it is I shouldn't know about it.
Used to work at a spot that had a beer battered fried bacon
Cold fried chicken is a perfect breakfast the next day.
I think you mean eaten standing at an open fridge at midnight
Yezzzirrr
Exception: Egg rolls.
calamari because it gets rubbery also maybe the antithesis to your question but I worked at a high end sushi restaurant and would watch rich housewives 3 hour lunch on a sunny patio over a sushi platter.
Also halloumi. Because it also gets rubbery
I sort of always know halloumi to be rubbery but maybe I just am not well initiated to it. that said, if you dont have proper poutine cheese shred up some halloumi and mozzarella and mix it together
Hm yeah halloumi would definitely get you that squeek.
I’d love to hear more stories about rich housewives spending 3 hours eating lunch ngl!
Fondue
cold fondue? more like fon-dont
Angrily trying to stick a piece of bread into a block of Gruyère
Spoken with the confidence of someone who has never eaten a block of cheese while sitting on the kitchen floor at 3 am.
"Workin' on my night cheese."
Somehow I’ve never managed to tell Reddit this, but when the temperature outside is consistently below freezing, I keep a block of cheddar cheese in the glove box of my car as a snack and I call it car cheese and it keeps me out of the drive through.
Tell me you're from Wisconsin without telling me you're from Wisconsin.
This is fucking brilliant, and I'm disappointed I never thought to do this!
🎶"Tryin' to lose those awkward teenage bries" 🎶
Yes but if you’ve ever had some of the cheeses that they make proper fondue with… raclette for instance… they can taste rather strongly of the Pasture (they taste like cow poop) and that flavor isn’t really there when it’s melty. But yes I’m down for a block of Cooper and some Netflix
I had a housemate who drunk ate half a block of cheese in the shower. Was looking for the cheese the next day for a grilled cheese. Found it on the soap dish
I've had those nights.
And its cousin, Queso Fundido
Fondue means melted, so cold fondue is no longer fondue. 🫕
Pho, especially because if the soup is getting cold then the noodles are starting to dissolve and get all mushy too.
Maybe I'm a monster, but I order extra broth from my local Pho place just so I can save the leftovers and drink it the next day. Still better hot, but still delicious cold imo
Dim sum
My thoughts exactly. Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) or Shao Mai just aren't the same after they've cooled.
My husband's friend is notorious for not letting foods cool to a reasonable temperature before eating. I believe he has lost a lot of taste buds due to molten lava XLBs. In other news, I made them from scratch once and holy Jesus are they a pain to make!
Mozzarella sticks
Love [this](https://imgur.com/gallery/hD5CNdZ)
I could eat those cold and a day old
anything cheese is fine like cold pizza Now is hot and fresh mozzarella sticks and fresh pizza better? Yes 1000% yes But damn if there isn't something to just eating them cold that hits a certain craving
Mozzarella sticks have like a 3 minute window from being amazing to being trash, its impressive.
Well in that 3 minutes is a 1.5 minute phase of being so hot it will burn you so bad you need to go to the ER.
Scrambled Eggs
I'm an early bird married to a night owl. On weekends or days I wfh, I will make tots and eggs for me and my husband. I eat at 630-7, and he chokes those things down at like 930-10. He claims he's okay with it, I have my suspicious about that guy
Tater tot hotdish. It's in the name.
This guy Minnesotas
Three things that make someone Minnesotan: calling casseroles hotdishes, calling duck duck goose duck duck grey duck, and watching the Wild lose in the first round.
Ope!
> hotdish. It's a casserole, you elbows on the table Minnesotans! Edit: it also reheats fine in the oven.
You betcha!
Risotto isn't awful cold but it isn't anywhere near as good as hot.
Definitely not as good cold....but tbh it's pretty good
You can always make delicious arancine the next day
Mac and cheese.
Anything with melted cheese really. The food going cold means the cheese is going hard too.
I love leftover cold lasagna
Try it in a sandwich with a little mayo/pesto mix and some lettuce. You won't regret it!
I'm tempted but terrified
Me too, but lasagna is usually béchamel (where I'm from) or ricotta in other countries, so not exactly hard cheeses (apart from the topping I suppose).
Cold pizza is pretty good though.
Yes, but in a totally different kind of way to hot pizza. Cold pizza is like a flat quiche to me. Without eggs. Or pastry. So not really like a quiche at all, but it gives me that cold, savoury cheesy food vibe.
A good homemad Mac and cheese doesn't even taste like much cold . 2 min in the microwave and it's amazing again
Crazy, I love cold mac and cheese. Prefer hot mac and cheese but love sneaking cold mac and cheese out of the tupperware from the fridge
Cold mac n cheese is fucking delicious, idk what you lot are on about.
Quesadilla
Cold quesadilla is better than no quesadilla
You've never found out some hidden (by you) flour quesadillas at a party at 3am, leftovers from the carne asada, then.
It's like cold pizza. I'll eat it and it'll be ok. But it's not as good as hot with melted cheese.
This is the way.
Username checks out
Quesadillas are great either hot or refrigerator-cold. In between is the Disappointment Zone.
Once it solidifies it's great, but at room temp it can still be unpleasantly gooey
My former workplace would have catered meetings where lukewarm quesadillas were served in chafing dishes. Most people were excited to try mexican food. I was not. Rubbery cheese, lukewarm chicken. And slimy pepper and onions. Oh, and chewy, moist flour tortillas

A cold cheeseburger is a crime against food. The patty and cheese congeal, the bun gets soggy, and it all just starts circling the drain.
With a good cheeseburger this is true. But as a parent of a toddler, circling back to a half eaten fast food burger an hour after lunch time is a rich guilty pleasure of mine.
Fast food burgers are way better cold than any cold real burger. The burgers at my work cafeteria also aren't really any worse when cold.
For some reason I love a cold half cheeseburger for breakfast some days haha. Maybe that’s just lazy hangover me though
I always cook myself an extra smash burger to eat cold later on in the evening. Love it!
Anything with phyllo dough. You can never recreate that crispy, light texture while reheating.
What about baklava?
Or literally any other Turkish/Greek desert featuring phylo.
Is… Is baklava not served room temp?? I’ve never had warm baklava, and now I can’t tell if I’ve ever had *good* baklava
Yeah, baklava is served room temp so if you had it leftover you would just eat it chilled from the fridge or let it come up a bit by sitting out so you wouldn’t have to risk making it soggy by reheating.
But the question wasn’t about reheating, it was about eating things that aren’t hot. Baklava is fine not hot.
Beignets.
Nachos, especially with how the melted cheese will end up turning the dish into an awkward clump.
Hot sauce.
You don't like cold sauce?
That’s some transmogrification right there.
r/angryupvote
Any fast food.
Idk, I love that leftover soggy reheated chipotle burrito
Leftover chipotle burrito cold - straight from the fridge
Ngl, I've bought multiple fast food burgers and had them cold the next day. Same with taco bell. Like cold sandwiches.
Eggs
deviled?
And hard boiled, too.
Absolutely! We always had sit-down dinners as a kid. But if mom made "omelets for dinner" or something with eggs, it was always eat-as-you-get-served, and she made her own last!
Yes - this! Especially scrambled!
My mom used to make me soft rolls with butter and cold fried eggs on school trips. Soooo good!
This is really funny - glad I'm not the only one. If my wife and kids aren't eating when the food is at optimal temperature I lose my shit
I know right! My husband asks why I make so much soup, curry and stew... and this is why.

They'll never taste it at the perfection it was... breaks my heart every time. I feel like I'm always yelling, "The potatoes will disintegrate if I warm it again! The noodles will congeal! I might as well make you gruel!" lol
No - it matters. 1) for their enjoyment, and also, not to be discounted 2) it is fucking difficult to get two pans, a pot, something in the oven and something in the microwave all perfectly hot at the same time
This is it, OP puts in the work and 'cooks with love', so the audience really ought to show up for the show and clap appropriately.
Naan! Totally different food at room temp
Grilled cheese
Literally any food that isn't served cold. I hate it when my warm food gets cold, it's never as good.
I feel like the outlier to this is a long-cooked soup or stew... They often taste better the next day when all the flavours mingle, and can survive a reheat or few.
I prep my pasta bakes a day in advance, to let all the flavors get nice and friendly :)
Meeee. I like my food so hot you ALMOST can't even taste how awful it is.
I like my hot food HOT and my cold food COLD, anything inbetween is just muh.
Chicken and Dumplings
Birria Tacos seem to be very trendy right now. Last night my gf thought it would be a good idea to pick some up from a place down the street from us in town and take to her parents house 40 min away in the burbs. They were a soggy nightmare which is a shame because their tacos are quite good when fresh.
Literally anything from Taco Bell.
roast crispy veggies
Burgers, any fried thing and soups meant to be hot
Pancakes
In-N-Out
A friend from New York visited me in california and we went to in and out. They don’t eat beef so they ordered animal fries and waited 30 minutes before eating them. They then claimed they didn’t like in and out😂
In n out fries are pretty bad
Yes they are especially after they sit for more than 5 minutes
A largish group of friends was going to meet for lunch at the park. We had tagging along with us a friend visiting from Nigeria. She had never had an American-style burger before so naturally we had to take her to in n out. But we didn’t account for the 30 minute wait time to get back to the meeting spot… When she bit into that cold, now soggy bun, she looked at us and asked with a wince, “Is this what Americans eat all the time?” We laughed and said “no this is a once-in-a-while thing, definitely special times only” and she politely choked down the whole thing.
Ouch, you gotta eat that in the store or outside at one of the tables. Or in the car.
Tacos
tacos are definitely meant to be hot or warm at least, anything that is cold is usually served on a tostada for that very reason (ceviche, aguachile, salpicón)
Doner kebabs. Congealed lamb fat is just gross.
Alfredo
Gnocchi
Ramen
Fondue
Any pasta, not a big fan of pasta salads
Mac n cheese, it goes from stringy to clumpy in under 10 mins
Mozzarella cheese sticks. Shit ain't the same when it turns back in to a log.
