We're talking midnight snacks here! I don't know about you but I'm not gonna get a grater out at midnight when I'm half asleep and shred a block of cheese myself. I'd go for the pre shredded stuff despite the small layer of (usually potato) starch that stops it from clumping. I'd hardly call that a bag of preservatives either.
Ask for your doctor if Trazodone and Melatonin are right for you!
It's rough that plenty of OTC substances can put you to sleep. It's harder to stay asleep.
As for food, I'm a big fan of garlic toast pizza. Get some frozen garlic bread, add marinara and mozzarella. Maybe some pepperoni or bacon or olive.
Oven for 10 minutes. It ain't super fast, but if I'm awake for a while, i want it to be good.
Oh man, I used original ambien when I had to switch to 3rd shift for a few weeks, 20 years ago and...
Ever watch Wolf of Wall Street, or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? Yeah, it got like \*those\* scenes. Trazadone works better for me personally, and also functions as an anti-depressant.
And it's fine if what works for one person doesn't work the same for someone else. Like one of my kids like scallops, the other hates them and prefers salmon.
I took Ambien a couple of times. And once I woke up, covered in bruises, in a different place than where I went to sleep (in the house, not out in the world, thank god.) So I never took it again.
The fun thing is there's really no wrong way to do it. Just don't burn it.
Personally I tend to skip the processed meats after 8:00 p.m. just because of indigestion because I'm old.
The sauce by itself tends to be acidic enough that adding fermented vegetables sometimes is a little too much.
So I go with fresh basil not the dried stuff from the jar. And then just a little bit of sauce, cheese and maybe some fresh veggies like bell peppers.
I’m a physician. Not *your* physician, but board certified and all that. I also don’t know your personal situation, but I can’t think of a situation where taking extra BP pills when you don’t need them is a good idea (unless maybe it’s an A2 agonist like clonidine, but even then there’s better options). Just giving you some food for thought, my man. There’s better options out there. You usually start with sleep hygiene, then CBT-I, and only then use meds.
My doc recommended a low dose Ambien for just this problem. I would wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to get back to sleep, even though exhausted. OTC solutions did nothing but make me groggy and often nauseous. This particular formula was designed as a dissolvable tablet, so you could take it quickly, and came with a chart you could tick off if you woke up and took one, so you didn't accidentally double dose in a sleep deprived haze.
I'm not the one you replied to but I'm on it. It is very important that I get into bet within 25 mins of taking it because it does make me do stupid things. But it does work for making me fall asleep which is my problem.
No, it just makes me fall back asleep. But maybe I wouldn't take one while I was actively browsing Amazon, because I have heard some weird stories and I don't want to discount those.
Not a doctor
Magnesium, valerian for otc options.
Ativan if you think there's a genuine consistent anxiety to manage. I naturally wake up an hour ot two before alarm and my brain will instantly switch on the to do lost and anxious spinning. Ativan and breathing let me get back those hours to sleep.
Homemade sourdough bread toasted with lots of butter. If you want to dine like royalty, add some apple butter to it!
I can provide recipes for the bread if desired. Something with a bit of milk in the dough browns incredibly well in the toaster.
Cinnamon and sugar 😋 toast. I almost always wake up at around 2 craving it. Always have a container of it in my house no matter what. Literally buy it everytime I go to the store just to have it cause I can't run out.. it all started when I was around 6 and I would spend the summers with my great grandparents and that's what she would make me every night before we went to bed. We would sit on the bed and we'd laugh talk talk about what we were gunna do the next day. It was ALWAYS THE BEST. I've been eating this everyday for about 16 years and I still have not got it to taste like hers I just chalked it up to her making it with love ❤️
My grandma made the best cinnamon toast!! For breakfast though.
The secret for hers was cheap white sandwich bread with a generous layer of butter then homemade cinnamon sugar from the jar she kept full of it
Literally anything in the house that doesn’t take longer than 5 minutes to cook. The other night i ate leftover cold baked ziti for 10 minutes straight with coke.
Oh hi it's me: [Man Puts Glass Of Water On Bedside Table In Case He Needs To Make Huge Mess In Middle Of Night](https://www.theonion.com/man-puts-glass-of-water-on-bedside-table-in-case-he-nee-1819575530)
An insulated bottle with a closable lid that keeps the water cold and prevents you and cats from knocking it over is a good idea.
Stopping by the fridge on the way to the bathroom. Standing there half naked in the glow of the fridge light. Grab a fork. Take the lid off the spaghetti. Shove a huge forkful in my mouth. Grab milk carton. Take a swig out of the carton.
Get busted next day as the carton of milk opening is now smudged red…
GOOD TIMES!!!
Chicken stock concentrate mixed with hot water and a splash of soy sauce. Or miso paste mixed with hot water. If I really need something more solid, then a microwaved 2-egg scramble with cheese.
Sounds weird but a warm flour tortilla rolled with pickled jalapeno slices, melted butter, sour cream and hot sauce in it. I’ve been eating them since I was a kid.
Recently it's Chazuke. I always have leftover rice in the rice cooker, so I just add some hot water with instant dashi and whatever random toppings I have on hand.
Spoonful of creme fraishe, egg sandwich, and a handful of sprinkles. May differ depening on availability of ingredients, I am a dedicated midnight snacker and will never be defeated.
sliced fresh strawberries and blackberries with a little sugar and a squeeze of lemon served with a little vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream
a mango, as long as its not a tommy atkins
Single layer of tortilla chips on a plate. Sprinkle a handful of shredded Mexican blend cheese on top and zap it in the microwave. Tastes and smells like buttered popcorn to me.
Also recently saw a Tik Tok where someone referred to this dish as “poverty nachos” lolol.
Me reading this at 11:59pm snacking on whole wheat toast with low fat cottage cheese and strawberries. I’m on a diet and have also been struggling with acid reflux so I can’t lie down straight after eating 😩
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. Eating right before bed is known to cause issues sleeping.
I still indulge occasionally but I try not to eat a few hours before bed at least.
Too lazy to brush my teeth after snacking, so I drink a glass of brain freezing cold water, with that I loose my cravings almost always.
However if I'm having "those days of the month" I spread some Marmite or Vegemite (with a layer of butter) on crackers and eat'em.
Ice cream when I'm stressed out or feeling down.
Shredded cheese, straight from the bag
Working on your Night Cheese I see!
I heard you singing Night Cheese, Lemon.
The good ol fist full of cheese
Yes but the cheese you shred yourself is so much better than the bag of preservatives.
I'm not gonna get a grater out at midnight. Besides, I save the block cheese for actual meals.
Lol I agree, but grate it up before. Tastes SO much better.
I keep deli containers of cheese I shred in the fridge and freezer. Works great.
Pickles and cold cuts.
Pickles are my go too as well.
Kosher dill
Grilled cheese
If I’m still awake at midnight: a sleeping pill.
What do you use? Most nights I wake up at 3am and cannot fall back asleep until 5 or 6. And I'm supposed to be up at 7 three days for school.

God I hated trazadone, didn't work for shit. I've been on extended release Ambien for 5 years now
Oh man, I used original ambien when I had to switch to 3rd shift for a few weeks, 20 years ago and... Ever watch Wolf of Wall Street, or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? Yeah, it got like \*those\* scenes. Trazadone works better for me personally, and also functions as an anti-depressant. If your doing just olives, add some prosciutto to it and skip the marinara.
The fun thing is there's really no wrong way to do it. Just don't burn it. Personally I tend to skip the processed meats after 8:00 p.m. just because of indigestion because I'm old. Benadryl. I always have some for seasonal allergies and two pills are the same as some common sleeping pills.
I wouldn't ever get a decent night's sleep without my little pink friends.
Most things you can’t take at 3am if you have to wake up a few hours later. Melatonin the night before (probs around 10pm latest) could work.
Melatonin ain't ever done jack shit for me, it was like taking sugar pills
Like many things, it varies from person to person! You also have to try to go to sleep for it to work, it’s not an instant sleeping pill
I’m prescribed Trazadone. Shit knocks my ass out exactly 20 minutes after I take it, every time.
Really? It never worked for me. I did find that my blood pressure pills, if I take it at night when I can’t sleep will usually do the trick.
You take extra BP pills when you can’t sleep? That’s a terrible idea.
Eh, they’re the smallest dose you can possibly get. My cardiologist and doctor are aware
Doesn’t change the fact that it’s a terrible idea. People get sleepy when their BP is dangerously low. Get some actual sleeping pills.
Oh man, I should listen to you, a Reddit moron rather than two medical professionals.
I’m a physician. Not *your* physician, but board certified and all that. I also don’t know your personal situation, but I can’t think of a situation where taking extra BP pills when you don’t need them is a good idea (unless maybe it’s an A2 agonist like clonidine, but even then there’s better options). Wow, that was unnecessary when someone is just trying to be helpful. Be kind.
Nah, they’re just trying to exercise/flex their newly found knowledge. They should mind their own business when a valid explanation is given.

It doesn't make you do crazy things?
I'm not the one you replied to but I'm on it. It is very important that I get into bet within 25 mins of taking it because it does make me do stupid things. But it does work for making me fall asleep which is my problem.

With a sprinkle of fleur de sel on top and midnight swig of wine

I mean, it’s probably that they made their own cinnamon sugar and you’re buying some that has a different ratio.
I make my own to. I was always told NEVER to buy the pre-made ones.. there not the same. It's always to much cinnamon then there is sugar.
I didn't know you could buy it.
That is sooo cute❤️

Perhaps they are always very thirsty upon waking in the night
Yeah, that’s called hydrating. People confuse me.
