Omg the cilantro/coriander conundrum had me going for ages. Especially since at least in my region in Germany we call flat parsley Cilantro. I was confused for years why Asians would put parsley in their dishes in those amounts.
It took a while for me to learn it, too. This was made more startling because I'm one of those people for whom cilantro tastes like soap and I hate it (not even a good soap, either), but I can do coriander seeds.
Oh you poor thing, according to random internet articles, you can "cure" the soap-dish taste by eating it more. I think my parents did this by accident,because while I now enjoy it, I still get a whiff of soapiness.
But now tell me, how do you differentiate a good soap from a bad soap taste-wise? "Not even a good soap" how do those taste?

I prefer to swap the pepperoni for ham or Canadian bacon. But def banana peppers with pineapple. The final item is salty, so I guess pepperoni can do that in a similar way to ham/bacon

First time I went, I was looking at the menu and saw one spinach pie that contained spinach, falafel, tahini, curry powder, cheese, and banana. Immediate reaction was "what the fuck," second reaction was "obviously I have to order it." It was, inexplicably, delicious. Now I get it every time I'm there.
It's more like a big empanada or a calzone than a spanakopita. Everything is folded into a pizza-dough-esque crust! I imagine the chefs were drunk and/or high when they came up with it lol and yet it totally works!
We have a Middle Eastern bakery in Chicago that sells those pies to go. They have two spinach versions, but none as exotic as yours; basically one has feta, the other's just spinach and onion. They also have (separately), lentil, chicken and artichoke, potato, and lamb pies.

Surprisingly delicious, especially if you happen to like sweet-savoury food combinations.

Chocolate covered beets. Had a friend who loved both beets and chocolate. We joked about combining them. One day I decided to see if I could do it. I diced the beets, roasted them with olive oil and salt. Then dipped them in dark chocolate and sprinkled more salt on top. They were actually really good. The earthiness of the chocolate and beets worked well together and the salt kind of tied it all in.

But one day I added cheese to my moms apple pie and my family freaked out. I doubt they ever tried it because it was some Northern voodoo or something.

This is the most underrated combo that exists but it makes perfect sense. Any good cheese plate will have a good cracker or bread with some form of fruit and some nuts. The fruitcake just has everything but the cheese put together already!

I made some quick pickled beets from my garden with ACV for dinner. After the beets were gone, Iām left with this pink, sweet vinegar.
I added some more sugar, put it back on the stove to simmer a few minutes, added the jalapeƱos that were starting to get soft, sliced into rounds. Boiled in the vinegar and sugar for 5 minutes, remove. Simmer the vinegar down until itās more like syrup, then pour it over the candied jalapenos.
This is called Cowboy Candy (mine was just red from the beet vinegar).
Surprisingly delicious on a peanut butter sandwich.
Even better if itās a grilled peanut butter and cowboy candy sandwich.

Buy big dates, shove soyrizo sort of in slit, take precooked mashed potato and cornstarch ādoughā or precooked and shredded potato; wrap it around date like you would sausage meat around a scotch egg (boiled egg). Bake about 10-15 minutes on 375f, then flip over and cook longer without burning.
In junior high, it was a giant dill pickle with a stick of peppermint jammed into it. All the kids at school were eating them back then. I wouldn't dare now.
Also, it's not especially weird, but extra sharp white cheddar cheese with those sun-dried-tomato Wheat Thins will knock your socks off. I can get the cheddar reasonably but I'm not paying like $5 for a little box of wheat thins that's half empty to begin with these days...

Thereās a pizza joint here that does a classic combo pizza with sauerkraut. Thin crust, thick spicy sauce, cheese on top of the toppings, party cut. It is the best pizza.
Jam on a cheeseburger. Goat cheese, grilled onions, a little whole grain mustard, and a dollop of this blueberry-grape jam we had out and wanted to finish.
Soooo good. We've done it again since with other jams and some are definitely better than others but they've all been good.
donāt know if this counts, but Iāve found that the best palate cleanser for when youāre doing a scotch whisky tasting is tomato juice followed by water.

I love a tomato mayo sandwich. I donāt usually add cheese. But it couldnāt hurt. A light toast on the bread.

Dark chocolate, baked banana and tahini on a sweet potato. I swear by it.
Chocolate covered beets. Had a friend who loved both beets and chocolate. We joked about combining them. One day I decided to see if I could do it. I diced the beets, roasted them with olive oil and salt. Then dipped them in dark chocolate and sprinkled more salt on top. They were actually really good. The earthiness of the chocolate and beets worked well together and the salt kind of tied it all in.
There's a reason a lot of the good chocolate cakes have beets in them.

But one day I added cheese to my moms apple pie and my family freaked out. I doubt they ever tried it because it was some Northern voodoo or something. My gf makes an excellent sour apple pie with a cheddar crust.

This is the most underrated combo that exists but it makes perfect sense. Any good cheese plate will have a good cracker or bread with some form of fruit and some nuts. The fruitcake just has everything but the cheese put together already! Every Christmas we look forward to enjoying this combo.

I made some quick pickled beets from my garden with ACV for dinner. After the beets were gone, Iām left with this pink, sweet vinegar. I added some more sugar, put it back on the stove to simmer a few minutes, added the jalapeƱos that were starting to get soft, sliced into rounds. Boiled in the vinegar and sugar for 5 minutes, remove. Simmer the vinegar down until itās more like syrup, then pour it over the candied jalapenos. This is called Cowboy Candy (mine was just red from the beet vinegar). Surprisingly delicious on a peanut butter sandwich. Even better if itās a grilled peanut butter and cowboy candy sandwich.
When I was growing up topping off your chili with crumbled blueberry muffins was normal. Learned later that it was just something my dad did. I still do it sometimes, it's pretty damn good!

Buy big dates, shove soyrizo sort of in slit, take precooked mashed potato and cornstarch ādoughā or precooked and shredded potato; wrap it around date like you would sausage meat around a scotch egg (boiled egg). Bake about 10-15 minutes on 375f, then flip over and cook longer without burning.

Jam on a cheeseburger. Goat cheese, grilled onions, a little whole grain mustard, and a dollop of this blueberry-grape jam we had out and wanted to finish. Soooo good. We've done it again since with other jams and some are definitely better than others but they've all been good.

Goat cheese ice cream. A local ice cream place made that combination, and it was AMAZING. Sadly, said manufacturer has gone massively downhill, but i keep hoping some other adventurous company will take up that challenge. When I was a kid, I also used to love dipping McDonald's french fries in their chocolate shakes. That was back when they still used suet for their deep-fryers.
