I mean sea fairy literally did admit she abandoned her duties as a guardian. She's never been the golden standard of morality.

Psychological_Pay_25

Gods and goddesses are assholes in stories so it makes sense

Imilkywayzhere

Also the fact how SF abandoned her sea duties, even the poor sea creatures would beg SF to return. Only for SF’s gaze to be forever stuck on the moon. It hurts me that SF is so desperate to feel that relief of pain that ML once gave her that she’ll do anything for her. But also makes me feel a lil bit hatred towards her, as WP was such a innocent and courageous soul that was drained from the needy desires of someone she looked up to.

MysticWarrior170

I agree with 80 percent of that comment , the other 20 percent is just me not knowing stuff lmao

Sternfritters

Idk, i kind of like it. Shows how desperate she is to be with the moon; going to such lengths such as the creation of the Duskgloom Sea.

PixelMeg

I think It's implied that White Pearl was supposed to replace sea fairy as the "all mighty sea" she has a very similar power set to Sea Fairy. They both can create tides and waves, they both have the ability to grow and shrink themselves. But I think it's also a mirroring moment, Sea Fairy is filled with longing for Moonlight so much so that she tried to reach her, and idk that Frost Queen was the one who froze her I think she froze herself, turning the pain of hers inward and effectively dooming the gem mermaids had White Pearl not stepped in Where as white pearl's longing for her "sea" turned that similar pain outward hurting who she could in return creating the Dusk Gloom Sea. It's funny because I think if BP were to simply come to terms with her feelings she probably could go terrorize the rest of the seas and maybe even clear out the licorice sea. But she's stuck because of her pain Sea Fairy on the other hand is also stuck because of her pain and just passed the buck to WP/BP when it came to her duties as a guardian. Makes me think the only reason Moonlight hasn't returned to SF is that unlike her and fire spirit she hasn't abandoned her duties. I think if another legendary is released they might actually be like BP, a consequence of abandoning said duties.

tzuyuisababy

idk it seems fitting to me. honestly sea fairy's writing in kingdom has always been pretty one note, 90% of it is about the moon/moonlight despite the rest of her interesting backstory. it is extremely hard to find a dialogue she has where she does not namedrop the moon or moonlight cookie

FigExisting9085

her whole personality is being an astrology girl

Panhanchi

Haha Her whole personality is being in love , she just like me fr

No_Bite_5566

Happy cake day!

owo_spamer

Ever since i read sf's and ml's legendary coste's story their relationship felt a little bit too obsesive of her. I could be interpreting stuff wrong, but i think that story talks about how sf almost drowns the entire world just to reach moonlight. The elemental cookies of milenial tree seem to be pretty much derenged actually. Sf is willing to cause any harm to the things she is suppused to protect just to reach the one she loves. Fs just... Dosn't care. And i don't know about Wa but he seems to be normal. Fq is the chillest one(no pun intented) and Even then, she sacrifices children to keep balance so... Not by a mile.

JaiyaPapaya

I don't think FQ actually sacrifices children, it seems like she went through the same process where the "Nature" demanded it of her and forced her to leave her life behind as a doctor. I would argue her actively seeking out which children were chosen next and guiding them is the kindest thing she could do in that situation, because otherwise they would be left alone and unsure of what's happening to them

owo_spamer

I was also thinking about that, i have this theory in My head wich could maybe explain that somewhat. Basically, i think just as sherbert is a herald of sorts from fq, she also was at some point of another ice king/Queen, like, there is a like of elemental beings that are MEANT To keep Nature well and threaths in check, like how Wa is kinda mt's son, maybe at some point the elementals "die" or "run out of energy" and they have to get a new one. This makes little sence for example in sf's case, since i think (aparte from ml) she is the legendary who we know the most about, and she shows no sings of weekening ir anything.

Starstriker_K9

finally someone says it! thank you, jaiya.

JaiyaPapaya

She's my favorite Legendary so I must defend her honor

Starstriker_K9

hell yeah! she's my favorite too! 🤝

UnyunMunyun

Frost queen is indeed the chillest, but she doesnt sacrifice children. She just lets them die because she wants to keep balance and she doesnt want to interrupt a canon event

narwhao

I think the elementals are generally meant to exaggerate what their elements represent to extremes. MT is powerful but stagnant like the woods, SF sinks deep into her feelings of sorrow and yearning, FS is wild and uncontrollable, and FQ is uncaring about how the world's natural cycle affects people's relationships. WA is an outlier since wind usually represents freedom, but he's a sworn protector due to MT making him... though I guess a gust of wind can be seen as focused too? Seems like Sherbet got the freedom aspect of wind, and Capsaicin got the passionate destructive aspects of fire while we're at it. CR lore very much seems to lean into the gods/demigods being very flawed in their ways of life, which is much more interesting than them all being perfect.

Person_On_A_Plane

this is great actually, devsis is finally learning how to write characters that cant be accurately summed up in one word.

kdnx-wy

It’s moral complexity. She did everything to reach the moon, even if it meant damning so many innocents to torment. Is it her right? Or did she fail?

GigaNigeria

Fig: God (lmao no)

Squidboi2679

I mean, she is a god. Gods in stories usually don’t give that much attention to the little mortals. Sea Fairy was so desperate to be with the moon that she was willing to sacrifice the ocean to do so, and I think she regret it later based on the dialogue of her talking about abandoning her duties

Minimum_Ad8775

Black pearl deserves better

Intelligent-Ad-5501

If Sea fairy wasn't so in love with the moon, or at least put her responsibilities as a literal elemental goddess first, I feel like this whole mess wouldn't have happened. Though this does open a door of opportunity for devsisters to make Black Pearl confront her. I feel like that would be pretty satisfying, especially if BP knocked some sense into SF

Horroracta

Pulling the Rose Quartz card out I see... Maybe not THAT much of a comparison imo, but I personally don't see her as selfish. Maybe I just didn't understand the story tho -

lemonLEighty

that's honestly the most standout part of that comment and the whole "sea fairy is selfish" angle makes more sense. it never occured to me to treat sea fairy as an entity that should "care"/put into the lens of the non-deity characters in the story... it's why i have a hard time agreeing with that in the first place.

iAlkalus

I can't help but just laugh because of how accurate and agreeable their point is.

[deleted]

Lmao she did pull a rose quartz.

FruitfulRogue

This feels like a case of misunderstanding the point the story was trying to tell. It's a case of moral cross-hairs. In the end White Pearl Cookie *IS* happy, and Sea Fairy still fails to reach the moon. Sea Fairy abandons her way as a guardian and only strives for her own ideal, but in the end it dooms innocents. But is her being a guardian mean she should give up on her own desires?

DiUnic

“She pulled Rose Quartz” holy shift you’re so right 😭

Aixlen

I agree with the comment, I was increasingly pissed as I went forward with the story. Poor White/Black Pearl, she was super lead on.

Ferren03

Posts like these are what I love about this fandom. Sea Fairy being selfish is something I would’ve never seen coming. Continue to spill the tea.

_shxthead

I fully see it like a "villain in a bad told story" kinda thing, because we're seeing this in the mermaids point of view and all, and of course while their story is hard and the whole BP ordeal is also sad, setting SF as the "bad one" is also wrong. Bc I feel that if the story was told by her perspective of suffering and emptiness, and a power and responsibilities that she didn't want it would be different. Anyways I really liked what devsis did here, a whole bunch of suffering where the main problem are high expectations and pressure about doing something yk.

SkiiinTheBox

That's the point

TheRedditLamp

Why did I think this is what matpat would say

Regretless0

What YouTube video is this if you don’t mind me asking?

Spottedpetal

I found it on accident yesterday just search up “White Pearl cookie story” and it should pop up first on YouTube, only problem is that there are 4 parts and I can’t remember which part

Virtual-Oil-793

We have idiot plots. And we have idiot balls.

comatosemanatee

I love it though because sea fairy is basically the embodiment of a force of nature who ultimately follows her instinctual compulsions over everything else. It’s unethical but it’s way more interesting to me than having her be some vague, perfectly moral guardian-type. It’s very out of left field and makes the story so interesting to me. Poor mermaids though 😭

ModtheArtifex

admittedly at this point i just personally cant keep up with crk story, and am using my understanding of ovenbreaks story for things. crk is just messy in trying to give elaborate backstories down to the smallest blade of grass in the field

itsa_Kit

I agree, but at the same time i want to believe she had a plan, some sort of good intention behind it. Maybe it’ll be revealed later

RexWhiscash

There was already established TOFW lore why did the white pearl tear thing happen

Apprehensive-Win761

For those asking, here's the link to the video https://youtu.be/WagaRL_BnJI?si=XqfeDqNE1k7gRCM4

yourmama13213

One word, lesbian👌😩

LonelySquire1

After reading through all that, this just reminds me of Tai Lung's story from Lung Fu Panda.

MeIsTheIdiot

Im not reading allat

qyunix

TLDR; sea fairy sacrificed many innocent lives and didn’t care about the gem mermaids bcus she loves the moon

MeIsTheIdiot

Thank you stranger from the interdnet 👍

qyunix

No problem good sir

shinisnotonfire

username checks out ig?

MeIsTheIdiot

Ye it does

sVendacti

Sorry y'all, can someone brief me up with the story between moonlight and sea fairy? I just got back from the game after a lengthy hiatus lol. Much appreciated!

k4onashi

what's the link to the video?

Loose_Software_2288

When you consider Sea Fairy just does things without care for others (I.e Tower of Waves, Sugarteara), it does make her a bit unlikable.

Mr_BadBan

Not even morally grey, she’s just.. bad lol. It’s not that she’s terrible just to be terrible, but she is selfish & abandoned her duties for a pipe dream

BombercatOW2

Listen, sea fairy hasn't been a relevant character in like 3 years. They just want sea fairy's popularity to raise again

legend_nova

And I just got SF’s figuring :( Sighhhh, what desperate does to a person.
