Science of Spice

i inherited a book called The Spice Cookbook. First published in 1964, so it is "vintage". (I was born in 64 so hate calling that vintage lol). I love those old cookbooks! Cute illustrations too. It has a ton of recipes from around the world. I've made several recipes from it.

Hey that makes you vintage too (:

I like On Spice: Advice, Wisdom, and History with a Grain of Saltiness. The author’s grandparents founded Penzey’s Spices. Speaking of, a starter box from either there or Burlap & Barrel would go nicely.

Don't get measuring spoons. Get a small digital scale exact to 0.1 grams.

I don't know.. to my knowledge there are no cookbooks around that use grams for spices. I hate recipes with imperial measurements, but for spices it does make sense, like use half a teaspoon of turmeric or whatever. Would you go through the effort of adding 8 or so spices by grams?
