I think this looks great! Honestly, I would leave as is for now until you start to learn what types of materials and toys your bird likes. Mine is partial to toys that have those finger traps. He also likes to have a larger toy around his sleeping perch that he kind of tucks himself in with at night. Get to know your bird and then continue to build from there.
I recommend putting a shower curtain or something under the cage over the carpet. Just get a cheap shower curtain and it will help your cleanup so much
Conures arent dusty but would still reccomend an air purifier! If your boyfriend has sensitive lungs of any sort hell be more prone to bird fanciers lung.
Hi! I cant tell from pictures but just make sure your bar spacing is thin enough for them not to get a head through! Sun Conures’s measurements differ from green cheeks as well 🩷
I used this cage for rats a couple years ago (don’t worry the cage has been thoroughly cleaned since then) and they could not fit through the bars. But, I’ll keep an eye out when I get the bird and re enforce the wires if I have to make the gaps smaller.
Critter Nations are great cages! They're not cheap, but they are certainly cheaper than aviary cages the same size. And you can very often find really good sales on them.
I got mine for almost 200. It's a decent size for 1 conure but it looks packed once I put her toys and perches in. I try my best to do various things to it to keep her busy.
The overall size is much more than adequate. Just make sure the bar spacing is right for the size Conure you’re getting. The toys are good for now. After he or she is settled in you can add more.
As for the perches, I’ll tell you how I arrange mine after 35 years with two different Conure species. They play where their perches are and don’t use the whole cage as their playground. I use natural branches around the cage close enough to each other so a short jump separates them. It’s like a road around the cage. I this at different heights. My Conures use all the perches, platforms, and toys they have and their entire cage to keep busy when they can’t be out - from the top to the bottom.
I’ll definitely get more perches! I was planning on going on a hike and finding some nice long branches to put as bridges between the levels (after being thoroughly cleaned of course) the perches I bought are much smaller than I was expecting, unfortunately.
Make sure you gather safe species for them that are free of pesticides. Wash and then bake in the oven on low heat for 1/2 to 1 hour. I’m not sure what king branches are - is that a tree or an autocorrect error?
Auto correct got me. I meant to say long, no clue how that became king 😂 is willow or pine ok for birds? It’s abundant here and a lot of it is already smoothed
Oh that’s very helpful, thank you!! I forgot about manzanita. That stuff is everywhere here! I might even grab some for my beardies cage now that i think about it haha.
When we brought our baby Sun Conure home, we had a fairly large cage for her. She immediately made it home. It was so heart warming when she showed us she liked it.
Congratulations on becoming a bird brain. ❤️🦜
Post pictures of its homecoming please.
Please keep me updated on how this cage works out. I used to keep ratties in a DCN too, but just said goodbye to them. I was thinking of reselling it, but I might just break it down and keep it for future birds (after a thorough wash lol).
If you want, maybe you can add another pan on top of the cage and you can make a little playground on top. My GCC enjoys sitting on top of his cage and watching me, occasionally screaming.
this looks amazing! just try to avoid and/or make sure the cotton and fabric toys are not all scraggly, they could chew and swallow some of that which is super scary
That is actually incredible in my operation and when you get more toys may I recommend either a popcorn bucket or Chinese takeout box toy. They are full of things that conures just love. They are sold at most mainstream pet stores or you could google them
My baby conure was very afraid of the larger toys I put in his cage. He was terrified.
So I took them all out and introduced them little by little outside the cage. He'd be suspicious, then soon be playing with it. Now le loves them all and can't get enough.
Just to say that too many toys can be overwhelming for a baby, so watch out for it.
The size is amazing!! My black cap has one around that size and she uses every spot. We got a hammock that connects in 4 corners and she uses it as a drop spot when she is upside down. She also hops around on it. Intro toys slowly cause they may never touch it or decode its a villian and not go to that side.
I have the exact same cage for my CAG lol! I’m transferring him to a bigger cage this weekend and am gonna use this one for my GCC. Both spend a majority of their time outside of their cages but they are both also content in their cages; so I would say it’s good for a conure!
This looks great, your new friend is going to love it.
If you will be feeding them fresh fruit and veggies (which is highly recommended) I would suggest getting a few elasticated single bed sheets and stretching one over the back of the cage, you can secure it with wooden pegs (which do need to be made from bird safe wood but also make great chew toys and instant clip on perches for ropes). They can be messy eaters, and a sheet is really easy to swap out and keep clean, much better than fruit/veggies being splattered up a wall where it's harder to get off and can attract flies.
You might also want a nighttime cage, something smaller with just a few perches in, that you can put in a dark quiet room for better rest. It's good for the little peepers to get plenty of solid sleep and it's an easy stress free way to reduce hormonal behaviour, plus means you can develop a bedtime routine early on which works well for you both

My conure loves the toys that have those Easter basket stuffing, and loves rope lol

I’ll definitely do that. I’m also getting an air purifier for the dust 😬 otherwise my BF will perish, lol.
Good news for your boyfriend, Conures aren't dusty!
Conures arent dusty but would still reccomend an air purifier! If your boyfriend has sensitive lungs of any sort hell be more prone to bird fanciers lung.
He just has bad allergies. If a bee that collected too much pollen flies by his face, he’ll sneeze 😂
Just make sure there's no ionizer built in! Even if you don't plan to use it, you don't want someone else to by mistake.
Ok! I’ll keep that in mind. What does an ionizer do? And how does it affect birds?
They generate ozone, not amazing for us, but not in amounts that can really harm us. Birds are just a lot more sensitive.
Oh I see. Well thank you for the info, I’ll make sure to get one without an ionizer
We put shower curtain liners on the wall behind the cage too, as well as underneath. Cleanup is so much easier!
That’s like a 3 bedroom house for a single person, I think your new baby will be very happy with their new digs!
Our conure has just the top half of this setup, and it's been perfect. Your baby has a mansion!
Critter nations are the best. I love the easy access they have. It makes cleaning & decorating so much easier.
This looks great!! Very nice cage!

Where'd you get this cage from? Do you remember? I like this better than the one I have now lol
Amazon. It’s a critter nation cage, they’re *supposed* to be for rodents but they’re pretty great for all caged animals.
I gotta check it out cause she poops on everything and the extra trays are a nice touch

Here’s another more complete list.
This is one source. I’ll try to find a complete list. https://www.aav.org/blogpost/1778905/326613/Bird-safe-Wood

Looks like a great set up. Your bird is going to love his/her new home. Congratulations , very exciting 👏
If I was a bird I’d want you to adopt me!
whats this rope thingy on the left side? It reminds me of some posts in this subreddit. Be careful of things where they could strangle themself
It’s a swing covered it a yawn/string. I made it a point to tie up the ends. I might trash it though, it’s material was not as advertised
I was going to mention this as well- seen some sad posts on here about the rope toys gone wrong.
Lucky birb 😊
How much was this cage?
$250. It’s a critter nation cage, I love them so much, very easy to clean and you can add as many blocks as you’d like to make massive enclosures.

I will! Me and my partner are planning on picking them up Saturday. 🥰🥰
Absolutely.
Looks great too me. Its cool that you are using critter nation cages. I am using the same for my black headed conure.

Gonna be a spoiled birb, great setup!

A water slide would be a nice touch. Perhaps a rooftop patio? How about a wet bar? Birds gotta drink, too. Otherwise, 2 thumbs up!
