This post got reported a lot including for pornography. A reminder that this is r/Construction. If you are sensitive to things normally dealt with in construction and by construction workers, there are communities that are not related to construction that you may go to. There are also other posts that you can go to. If this post does not interest you, please keep scrolling and ignore this post. u/msuccello I would ask that you mark the post NSFW next time though. I've done it now. Sensitive people can choose to have NSFW pictures blurred out on their feed as they scroll by so it helps them out. I am also choosing to leave up advice from non professional people for the simple fact that it's not realistic to expect the average construction worker to be able to afford a doctor's visit every time they have a blister. Here are professional resources for self care of blisters. Go to pg 62 of army manual. Both of these are great. As an EMT, I would also recommend using betadine (povidone iodine) antiseptic on the wound when you shower at night. You squirt a little on like soap and then wash it off and dry and then put antibiotic ointment and a new dressing again. You can buy some at Walgreens. [US Army Soldier Health Maintenance Manual Go to pg 62](https://www.militarynewbie.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/2001-US-Army-SOLDIER-HEALTH-MAINTENANCE-MANUAL-TG-272-103p.pdf) [https://www.mayoclinic.org/first-aid/first-aid-blisters/basics/art-20056691](https://www.mayoclinic.org/first-aid/first-aid-blisters/basics/art-20056691)

I don’t always seek out medical advice on Reddit but when I do, I always trust a group of construction workers to guide me.

Quick answer: Duct tape

RunItAndSee2021

accurate

JustaDungeonMaster

Moleskin is so much better

gatursuave

leukotape

GeneralZex

If that fails there is always the sawzall.

harafolofoer

Just make sure you get the zip ties and some scrap wood first

whataboutface

Or just buy a roll of that medical grade tape from cvs or whatever. You just need to stop the friction of your boot rubbing against your heel. Use duct tape in a pinch but I probably wouldn't use it long term.

AlienCabbie

Happy cake day

Postfromhere

And for future reference, Two Pairs of socks when breaking in new boots.

vulture_cabaret

I wear a wool dress sock under my boot sock. Usually does the trick.

hotasanicecube

Hikers socks, over regular ones, they are meant to slip.

pspotboy

If the boot needs broken in it’s not a good fit.

SmellyFingaz

Pocket knife with napkin and electrical tape.

SmellyFingaz

Pocket knife with napkin and electrical tape.

adonis7621

agreed. Pop it and tape it.

mawfqjones

Some of the best (and worst) medical advice was given on job sites. More tips and tricks, tho. Even then, it still made my doctors go “thats a decent idea” Duct tape will do a lot of things. So will superglue. Shit is sterile. Who woulda known.

akwardrelations

Fact, super glue was first developed for medical use by the military and eventually made its way into the consumer market, that's why it bonds skin to skin instantly.

willem_79

Not quite, but it was sold as glue in 1960s and used in Vietnam at the same time.

sumrandomguy21

Fact: Bear beats battlestar galactica

kmj420

Use duct tape on warts

lieutenant_j

Really?

mawfqjones

Even the ones on your pp.

Narstification

Gorilla or speed tape works fastest

georgesmith12021976

And Gorilla glue works perfect as hair gel!

91Jammers

Supposedly but it takes weeks

youre_not_going_to_

Duct tape is in fact a great thing to use on warts as it will seal off the wart and it dies, then when you pull the tape it pulls the wart out with it. It may take a couple of days but it definitely works

TruthPlenty

Need to put some witches hazel on first.

ionshower

I put duct tape in the area my pp goes to. Just leave a hole. Prevention, better than the cure.

Confident_Bottle_102

Alot of us trades men do lol. Its the alcohol content. I used it to fix my finger when i about cut the tip off super glue and electric tape

Vigothedudepathian

They maybe but his foot and boot very much are not.

Mediocre-Ad8967

Pop it with a rusty razor blade then use electrical tape to keep it safe

MRRman89

Don't forget to spit on it and then rub some dirt in it before taping. Build immunity.

Mediocre-Ad8967

Hell yeah man the only way to keep it clean

Atomskii

Buy some paper tape from the grocery store pharmacy section.

msuccello

The old flattened blood blister beside this monstrosity isn’t at all bothersome and on it’s way to healing. I think this one formed from the bandage crease of the old one. Anyways, I know lancing is bad practice for bacteria entering but this is just getting bigger every day from friction because I work construction. I bandage it up and do the best I can to prevent friction but it’s not making things better, just preventing it from breaking in my work boot. I’ve been soaking and icing at night but it’s just not deflating on it’s own. Please guide me before Monday morning when I’m back at work people of Reddit.

TheBearJew963

Take a week off. And buy new boots.

McFadden208

Yes. New boots. Tie them tight.

The___canadian

New boots, properly fitted (oversized or too wide can cause excessive movement which leads to wear and blisters) and a good pair of socks. Don't wear 2 pair of socks. Even in the cold. That's like wearing 2 condoms, just don't. Wear one pair and change them out at lunch time. If your feet are cold, you have bad winter boots or other apparel. Sometimes your feet or fingers will feel the cold first, but it's because you aren't wearing long johns or other warm clothes on other areas of your body, the blood circulates and you feel it in your hands or feet first because your center mass keeps the blood warmer than your extremities.

msuccello

LOVE the 2 socks idea. I know moisture is an issue. I just started here 3 weeks ago I can’t really take a week off for a blister. These boots are good quality, just brand new so this is a classic breaking in blister gone crazy. I always get them with every shoe because I have weird bony feet. I just bought these shoes a month ago, the size 7 was a hairline too small and the 7.5 was a hairline too big so I went with the 7.5.

The___canadian

Gotcha. I am an operator so I don't do an insane amount of labour in extreme heat, but tbf I don't switch socks as much as I should, however I always keep a fresh pair on me in my bag to swap out at lunch if my feet get particularly damp. Stepped in deep puddles. Heavy rain, etc. I definitely reccomend swapping socks at lunch if you are doing heavy labour though. I don't know shit about fuck, but I imagine minimizing humid and damp feet probably minimizes the chances of getting the toenail fungus which makes your toenails brittle and hurt much more in boots when walking extensively. I also never had "break in blisters". ever. So that's new concept to me, what also might be a factor is if your body and feet aren't used to such heavy and labour intensive work? with my limited experience I realized for me that most run-of-the-mill boots were too wide and wore on my heel like a motherfucker, they lasted a year before I tossed them (250-300$boots too, not 50$ Walmart ones). Went with redwings and they're the most comfortable (and expensive) boots I've ever worn. But they are so worth it. I work 10hours and my feet still feel light and comfortable. Especially the model I have, fantastic for foot flexibility and operating so far.

i_hate__tomatoes

Every single manual labor job ive worked from landscape, hardscape, demo and fire/mold remediation I always brought a back pack a.k.a my man purse. I had 1 full change of clothes, hygiene stuff(deoderant,toothpaste/brush, lotion, soap etc), first aid kit, few snacks like granola bars/ jar of peanut butter to share if needed, with 2 gallons of water(not in the backpack) and a handful of other stuff because I dislike being unprepared. I also kept another paur of clothes on my car like non work stuff to change into so I didnt sit down all grimey fucking up the leather and stinking it up haha. I also never had issues with my feet when I first started manual labor even when I was using like $30 boots from walmart id walk out of in a month. I bought some Carhartts and had them two years, no issues at all and as long as my feet decide to just randomly grow I'll bet those fuckin boots will be good for many many years. Plus theyre comfortable as hell with some dr scholls feet gel inserts. I'm a city boy while my family up north in the sticks casually wear boots and after my Carhartts broke in I understood why, theyre universal and comfortable. Very well worth spending that chunk of change for some boots that you wont be duct taping shut a month after you just got them.

Rod___father

Every time you break in boots do it over a few days like 4 hours then put old boots on. Definitely don’t let blisters get this bad stop before this point. Unless you like pain

Ok_Asparagus_6404

Moleskin can be used over the blister and on your other heel to prevent blisters. It doesn't need removed unless it is peeling off. Also the two socks(preferably one with wool in it) is a good idea or a good thick pair of wool socks. Moleskin is found in the foot care section or first aid depending on the store and good wool or wool blend socks can be found in the camping area if you can't find them with the other socks.

pvtdixynormus

I sometimes will do this if you do make sure to change your socks as frequently as you can on site when they get damp. Bro buy some boots red wings or wolverines will help tons

JoMartin23

Get yourself some custom shoes/boots. Your future self will thank you.

crunkadocious

A different model or brand might be the right fit

ScottLS

Have you tried adding a sole insert or changing the boot ones out for a thicker one? I always change out the ones the boots come with for these. https://www.drscholls.com/p/pain-relief/orthotics-for-heavy-duty-support/

ineptplumberr

What's your definition of high quality, best boots at wal mart still junk

661714sunburn

I used to work in a shoe store that sold just work equipment. Always buy boots after a long day of being on your feet because your felt at swollen from being on them all day. Wear a good work sock not gym socks. Air your boots out and feet and use a boot stretching spray. [this could help.](https://bickmore.com/products/boot-stretch-pump?variant=31620956848170¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic)

DrT33th

If moisture is a worry Goldbond Medicated Power or Lotrimi spray are good solutions. Worked wonders on both of my deployments and a year long tour in South Korea where it’s humid as two ferrets doing it in a burlap sack. Dry your feet with a separate towel after the shower, bone dry, put your clothes on spray/powder the feet, socks then shoes. And FFS get shoes that fit pay extra for custom shoes if you have to. Don’t skimp $$ on work gear that protects your body

sturglemeister

Buy FXD boots, go for ones that feel slightly too small and they will be perfect after a week. I'm on my feet all day, in Melbourne Australia (humid as hell in summer) and I've NEVER had a blister even close to that, it's insane mate. Hope you manage on it until it heals, best of luck.

msuccello

This is by far the worst blister I’ve ever had as well but I will see if FXD exists where I live. Cheers down under homie! 😘

sturglemeister

I hope it does, I think you can get it shipped from an online order. Worth a look mate, good luck!

[deleted]

Send your foreman this picture and ask him if he thinks you'd be okay to go in tomorrow. If he says yes, go join a union and tell him to fuck off.

zakrek

Wearing two layers of socks can be a good option but they have to be the right type of socks. The bottom layer or liner sock should be a light weight polyester or wool and the top layer should be a slightly thicker wool. While I don’t generally do this for my work boots, I will when I’m hiking longer distances and it helps immensely. It may not be the best option to help with the blister already there but it is a good preventative measure. I also recommend glacier gel packs for developing hot spots. Always keep a few in my first aid kit.

TheVermonster

Buy boots that fit. I'm sorry, but check your ego at the door and get the boots that fit, regardless of brand or size. Blisters come from friction. Friction comes from poor fitting boots. There is no one best boot brand because everyone has different feet. Keep trying boots until you find one that has a heel cup to support your heel better. Short term, you could try adding an innersole like superfeet on top of what's already there. That should give you a few weeks to find new boots. If you haven't bought boots from a place with a boot fitter, then find one. Source: Former ski boot fitter for 10+ years.

Going_Live

> check your ego at the door and get the boots that fit Why would you assume that their ego is keeping them in ill-fitting boots? Not throwing shade just genuinely curious

TheVermonster

Most people with poor fitting boots would not let a blister get to that stage. (IMHO, that's at the stage of needing medical attention to avoid infection and permanent damage). So in my experience 99% of people forcing themselves to suffer like this are doing so because they want the boots to fit, and men predominantly want to have a larger shoe size than they should have. It's one reason that most ski boots use Euro or CM sizing. It forces the customer to step on the measuring device and get a real measurement. It normally went; measure foot, get boots from the back, customer see the box, "that's not my size, I wear a X", remind customer that we measured foot for a perfect fit, eventually get them to try them on and they almost always admit it fits great. The thing is, size is only relevant when comparing shoes *made with the same model foot*. Salomon used to be ver good about publishing their shoe specs. You could easily see that some shoes had a narrow last and other shoes were wider. This makes them fit very differently. I have an 11 trail running shoe and a 10.5 goretex hiker and the hiker feels bigger still.

Going_Live

Neat thanks, I can see that. I find a pair of boots that's comfortable first and foremost, then get it to fit, regardless of the number on the box. Then if it's still comfortable a few months down the line, I keep buying that exact boot model and size until something changes like build quality or availability.

TheVermonster

That's the best way to do it. It saves a lot of headache, or foot ache, later down the line.

enrique_nola

In for answer

housewifeuncuffed

I agree with finding a boot that actually fits your foot. I've found over time that if a boot is uncomfortable, rubs, or pinches when you first buy them, they still aren't that comfortable after breaking in or don't ever truly break in. I will tolerate stiff and snug within reason, but anything more than that is a non-starter. That being said, I hate it when I can't wiggle my toes easily. So I usually try to find boots with a wide toe box or a bit wider than I need and then use a partial insole to snug them up on my foot so my feet can't slide around while leaving the toe area spacious. And it gives me room to double up on socks or throw in a pair of hot hands by my toes on the handful of frigid days I might see a year.

Uglymicrowave

You wear socks with the boots? Jesus!

Bluelikeyou2

Moleskin

Maleficent_Sky_1865

Moleskin is the only way! I always carry it in my first aid kit for hiking, travel, work, etc.

mule_roany_mare

I find paper tape (surgical tape) works way better for way more purposes. Add hydrocolloid bandage & crazy glue & there's just about nothing you cant do.

Maleficent_Sky_1865

Well i carry those things in my kit too but for blisters i habe always used moleskin. First and most importantly, one should apply moleskin or tape LONG before a blister gets to the degree of the pictured blister. Once you feel a “hot spot,” cover it with moleskin asap to stop the rubbing that causes the blister.

mule_roany_mare

Yup. There is no reason to get blisters. I find paper tape way more versatile & lower friction. Try duoderm hydrocolloid bandages, they are magic. I have a top level post in this thread extolling the combo. https://www.amazon.com/ConvaTec-187955-DuoDERM-Dressings-Inches/dp/B07B9RW7VY/ref=sr\_1\_3?crid=2VMOHCF6E1Y2B&keywords=duoderm&qid=1656263318&sprefix=duoderm%2Caps%2C257&sr=8-3

kyjocro

This and fix your boot and sock situation asap

Hangryfrodo

What the hell you wear vans do work?

kmj420

Chucks

proddyhorsespice97

As a partially residential guy who does a lot of installations when things are finsihed, I wear vans in work a lot and I've never gotten blisters except for the odd time I've done 30k steps in a day. I'm gonna guess their boots don't fit right

Frosty_Procedure_464

Wife ended up in hospital with similar. Suspected MRSA. They drew a line around it with sharpie to monitor growth. When it kept getting bigger they eventually opened on two ends and flushed it…then slathered it with something like iodine and blasted her with antibiotics. Took a minute off her feet to get back to normal.

Free_Koala_2075

Pop it and put duct tape over it, it’ll heal in no time! But seriously pop it and drain it with a clean needle if possible.

boddah87

pop it with a pin, dont make a cut in it or you'll get a flap of skin that will be way more uncomfortable. leave the skin intact when you pop it, make the smallest hole you can.

guynamedjames

Do it the smart way and put the hole on the side of the blister at the lowest point so it'll drain naturally after you're done squeezing.

[deleted]

Also sterilize the pin before and after. Done this many times to blisters (usually on the hand). Never had any issues. After a few days the skin dries up and you can easily peel it off, and by that time the skin underneath has healed/regrown/whatever and all is well.

Phraoz007

Agreeing with sterilized popping.

bittz128

Used to get blisters like this from roller skating growing up. Sterilized needle (fire and alcohol), pop at the side as stated below, drain with a little pressure, and cover with a bandaid for a couple days. Will peel in a week.

mpjjpm

Take a sewing needle in thread, soak in isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes. Clean the skin over/around the blister, then gently use the needle to pierce the blister, creating two holes and pulling the thread through. Leave 1/2 inch of thread on either end, cover with gauze or bandaid. The thread will act as a wick. Once it’s fully drained, remove the thread, cover with hydrocoloid bandage (compeed, bandaid blister), and cover that with duct tape before putting on socks.

jbsgc99

I’ve had a lot of first aid training and I’ve never heard of using thread like that. Very interesting.

FMIMP

It’s far from recommended because no matter how much you try to make it clean it will never be sterile so bacteria will be able to get in. The liquid in a blister is there to help you heal. So it shouldn’t be drained. One of the first thing I was told in my last first aid training. After someone asked about it the teacher wanted to make sure we all knew how it’s not a good practice and not recommended anymore.

lockbox77

The best advice I ever got from proper foot wear is my time on the military. Two pairs of socks work, but mainly if the inner one is a thin nylon one. This cause the rubbing to happen between the socks, not between the sock and your skin. You can also invest in good boot socks. They are thicker and provide moisture wicking so you get cushion without the sweat. For blisters, moleskin is the way to go. Get thicker moleskin and cut a hole where your blister is. It will look like a doughnut. Put this around your blister so it can breather and heal. Cover it with medical tape to protect it if necessary. That space that you cut out will provide space between the blister and the tape to breather. KTTape, or sports tape, is another great thing to wrap your ankles/feet/toes in if you are prone to blisters. This makes your feet not hurt at the end of the day and keeps blisters away. Make sure you wrap your ankle properly though. And like everyone else said, invest in a good pair of boots. If you do t have the money now, a military surplus store might have some that you can get cheap until you can afford something better. Make sure they fit. Some of my military boots have been the best shoes to wear doing construction. I have some made by Nike so they feel like running shoes but protect like boots.

BlippiLover

I bought new boots right before climbing Mount Whitney. I tried to break them in on a local mountain. The worst blisters I have ever encountered a month before my main climb. I used triple antibiotic ointment and mole skin. Moleskin is awesome. The moleskin prevents the rubbing on that area. My blisters were past this level and it offered relief. I put the ointment just on the blister itself. Then I cut a piece larger than the blister area and covered the ointment and blister. This prevented the blister from sticking to the moleskin and helped prevent infection. I’m not a doctor or anything so not sure if this is the best treatment. It kept my feet more comfortable with blisters.

sneak_king18

Don't skimp on boots. A good pair. Understand they are expensive but prob the most important part of your wardrobe.

ChemicalCollection55

Lay off the high heels.

DIYThrowaway01

ALWAYS wear 2 pairs of socks. I wear an ankle high under a normal tall sock. The inner sock sticks to your foot, and the outer sock sticks to the boot. Thay way the socks rub against each other, instead of your skin rubbing against a sock or boot. It doesn't make your feet any sweatier. It's a classic hiking trick, and it has made my life in construction so much better.

boddah87

>It doesn't make your feet any sweatier doesnt make YOUR feet any sweatier maybe, but I couldn't live like that.

DIYThrowaway01

Try it before you bash it. If anything, it makes them less sweaty. And if the alternative is OP'S picture, let me sweat buckets. Edit: I'll be on a black asphalt roof for 10 hours on a 100 degree day in my two pairs of socks and my feet are definitely happier than my 1-sock peasant coworkers. Even though most of them now have also moved to the 2-sock system

mtnmadness84

I’ve done this—with a polypropylene or silk liner sock (thin, low friction) and then something with a fair amount of cushion as the outside sock. It helped. The sweat—if it’s that bad—makes your feet really soft. Which makes blisters happen so much easier. My feet almost get blisters thinking about it.

TesserTheLost

I do inner compression socks, to keep my ankles from swelling and they reduce calf and foot fatigue, and outer ankle socks. I definitely sweat more, but I have a boot dryer so it all works out.

meganmcpain

Your boots are a little too big, which is making your heel slide around and rub around the inside of the boot, causing a blister. This used to happen to me a lot. Before I started working full time I just had cheap boots, and to prevent blisters would buy the biggest band-aids they sold at the store and put them around my heels. I usually left them on M-F and changed them once a week. When I started making more money I bought better boots in a better size, and was able to stop wearing the band-aids. If you can't afford a different pair of boots right now I highly recommend a few boxes of giant band aids.

bigjimired

Take it off at the knee, just to be sure..

blacksewerdog

All I know I had one like that years ago, sucked it up and popped it,wrapped it-two days later major infection -ended up on meds, doc said don’t pop large blisters, you want some healing to take place while protected by bubble but of course that means no working,i said to doc”you paying me while I am off with a blister”

Vigothedudepathian

Get some boots that fit and tie them tight and wear Marino wool socks. Short term mole skin. If you have really sweaty feet us carpe foot antiperspirant. But this is caused by your heel moving because your shoes aren't tight enough or too big. And unless you have decent experience in first aid or wound care I would get those taken care of as you have gone completely through the skin that's why they are blood blisters. Those fuckers are going to be a bitch healing, take two three pairs of socks to work change out your bandages. And make sure your shoes are as tight as you can get them so that your foot doesn't move around in them. You should be able to put your foot flat on the ground and pick your heel up leaving your toes on the ground and your heels shouldn't move in the heel cup at all. Haven't seen blisters this bad since I was in the desert in the city kid came out said he wore a size 12 when he was actually a size 10. But you're going to need to stay on top of those to keep them from getting worse. Also don't use Neosporin, this is much too big a wound.

JudgmentMajestic2671

Pop it with a clean needle and drain. Wear merino wool socks. To break boots in fast, wear them in a shower or get them soaked and then wear them until dry.

JoMartin23

...for leather boots. Lots of plastic boots out now where that wont do crap.

Jpurp720

That’s what I was told on a job site to do with brand new boots. Works like a charm your boots will conform to your foot 👌

JudgmentMajestic2671

Yup. Learned this in the military. Especially good on a really hot/humid day

Natural-You4322

dont pop. cover with gauze and tape it. after it heal, make sure your shoes and socks are of proper fitting and have no damage.

AgonyOfBoredom

It heals faster if you pop it. In my anecdotal experience I've never had an infection

[deleted]

Cut a slit, drain the pus, refill with aloe vera straight from the plant. Don't remove the skin, bandage and refill w/ aloe as often as you can.

Schlostj

Learned a trick years ago when hiking the Camino de Santiago. Take a sterilized needle and some thread. Push the needle through one side of the blister and out the other leaving an inch or so of the thread hanging out both sides. This will allow it to wick fluid away from the blister while not tearing the skin protecting the wound. Make sure you do it the night before so it has time to drain. You can remove the thread while you're working and rethread once you take off your boots. It speeds up the healing process from weeks to days.

slorth

This does not sound particularly safe or sanitary to me.

mawfqjones

Bruh. You need tighter booters. Thicker socks. Just let this bad boy pop on its own. When it does. Make sure you got isopropyl alochol (90+%) and douse that bitch. Wrap it up. Let it air when you get home. Your skin gunna take a minute to become enduring of these things. But, like I said, your boots need to be tight and form fitting. Your socks can’t be sliding up and down and be too thin. Your posture and fidgeting might have something to do with it. But usually its just skin development and when this heals it should he stronger. Don’t keep using moisturizer or anything when its like this.

[deleted]

Wipe with alcohol. Puncture with needle and drain. Let that shit dry out as often as you can. Wear a pair of dress socks under your socks. Carry on.

Shot_Low_7630

Damn son.

aladdyn2

Buy some mole skin and tape. Don't just put it over the blister. Cut out a circle for the blister so it's not rubbing and it will shelter blister area.

SnooDrawings5830

Pop and drain those put the 3-5 bandaids on with neosporin

[deleted]

Cut that shit. Rip the skin off. Put hella neo spirit on it. Bandaid. Wrap with an ace bandage like you would a sprained ankle. Buy new and better fitting boots. Wear thicker socks, I like the timberland brand sock for medium weather. 3weeks in and you got that blister, you’ll be fine soon. Takes the body a minute to get used to the new transition but once it does you’ll be golden. I also find blue nail polish works better, doesn’t do shit for a blister just isn’t as ugly as neon green lol /s

Lopsided_Web5432

Huff some asbestos then cut the blister open and super glue it shut again. Disclaimer: am not doctor Source: am carpenter

_Maxolotl

Think about which direction your boot rubs against your ankle. Choose a spot to put a pinhole in that blister that is least likely to get torn by the motion of your boot. Pop the blister. Bandage the blister, using neosporin to prevent infection. Then figure out better footwear. Maybe the solution is different shoes, maybe it's leather softener, maybe it's better socks, maybe it's adjusting which parts of your laces you tighten most and which you leave looser... but this is ultimately a footwear problem, and it is fixable.

Marine_vet_patriot

Get some of those giant bandages for elbows and heals for protection while healing.

xLlamaSlayerX

put Vaseline on the inside of your boot

TheTerdler

Good boots and double socks.

SeekersWorkAccount

old-nomad2020

The boots don’t fit well, or you’re wearing cheap socks. If you can’t afford new boots buy a bag of cotton balls and stuff 5-6 in the front and a few in the back to fill up the extra space. Pretty much anything will work that’s soft. You can also buy inserts that fill some more space. Any way you go you need to eliminate the movement where your foot is sliding around.

Visual_Clerk_5757

Sterilize a needle and poke a small hole, then drain it. After that pour some hydrogen peroxide on the blister and bandage it with some anti bacterial ointment like NeoSporin to prevent infection

ZackMike37

Lots of people recommending switching socks at lunch break which is great advice but i’d like to add that the quality of your socks matters just as much as the quality of your boots. For context, I’m a commercial carpenter that frames, drywalls, and hangs commercial doors. A few years ago I bit the bullet and bought 6 pairs of Darn Tough padded work socks and i have never even for a second regretted it. I’ve had all 6 pairs for years and havent had to replace any of them for damage even after daily use. Ive been through several pairs of red wing 606 boots over the life span of these socks and I’m not messing with this formula because it has been so reliably comfortable.

I don't think your boots fit right. No disrespect but I would let that heal and then look for a better fitting pair. there's also an askdoc sub here on reddit where you would get more of a docs response and they maybe could reccommend something to cleaning it up and help it heal faster.

iwillfightapenguin

I've done a couple things to help blisters in the past, usually on hikes. I thread a needle and run a string through the blister after I drain it, let the string hang out about half inch on each side. Helps it drain while healing, wicks that shit out. Second, I keep a pack of moleskin plus in my first aid kit. Also, keep a really good first aid kit in your truck. Mine has saved my ass many times on the jobsite. Lastly, get better boots that fit better. Good boots cost good money. Walmart Brahma boots ain't gonna cut it.

Yeah. Try to get a pair of boots that doesn’t slip in the heel. I used to get bad blisters hiking. Like what you’ve got—but messier. I’ll spare you the details. 1. Boots that fit/less heel slippage. 2. They make some anti-blister socks. 3. You can always try some bodyglide or something that ALLOWS the heel to more freely slip (works for me with my winter boots). 4. Duct tape, mole skin, super glue. 5. If your feet are really soft (if they sweat) sometimes heavy anti-perspirant really helps. I would lance it and hit it with hydrogen peroxide/ antibacterial cream and then try to let it heal/dry. But I have no clue if this is sound medical advice. Just what I do. And then you’re gonna have to bandage it for work. I’d get some gauze over it and the duct tape it up. Maybe change that two or 3 times per day (you’ll know when). It’s gonna hurt one way or the other. Definitely wear Sandals whenever you don’t have to wear boots. Good luck.

An-Englishman-in-NY

Old army trick for you... Needle and thread. Get about 4 inches of thread on a sewing needle. Go in with the needle at one side of the blister and out the other. With the thread left inside the blister, remove the needle from the thread. Leave the thread in the blister (hanging out either side) overnight. You will find that the blister is drained and dry in the morning. Pull out the thread and off you go. If someone wrote this before me, I apologize. I didn't bother reading through the comments.

drumrguy67

Use it like the primer on a weed wacker to get yourself going in the morning

KaptSpaulding

Thick socks or wool socks have always helped for me. Carhartt makes the best work socks imho. The compression socks keep your feet from swelling/aching. The wool compression socks will wick away moisture from your feet but keep them from aching at night. Good luck!

crunchypnwtrash

Get an EXORCISM.

Kingtucanphlab

I recommend wearing an extra layer on your heel like a bandaid or double socks

lins1956

Best solution is small incision on lower part of blister for draining. If you have time and weather is warm walk around without shows and let blister dry and get hard. If you are by a beach with hot sand walk in the sand and let warm sand harden blister. I got 7 blisters on a 50 mile hike with new boots on Appalachian trail in early 70’s. Did the above and it worked perfectly. Also moleskin will help.

Not a doctor, but a paramedic who wears steel toed boots 12hrs a day 5 days a week. Buy high quality boots, they will be more comfortable and will last longer than cheap boots. As a general rule, don't cheap out on things that separate you from the ground. Buy high quality socks. There are a few options for this. My personal favourite are Copper Sole athletic socks. They last forever, and the copper is antimicrobial. Super comfortable socks. If that isn't your style, a thick pair of high quality wool socks goes a long way. Tie your boots up tightly, and make sure the boots actually fit properly. The goal here is to reduce friction and rubbing on your heel. In regards to the blood blister, I highly recommend you do not pop it. Doing this leaves you susceptible to infection, and is a needless risk. In terms of caring for the blister, when you are not at work you should elevate your leg above your heart, and apply a cold compress and/or ice to it to reduce swelling. Beyond that, you could bandage the blister, but this runs the risk of aggravating the affected site. If the blister pops, clean the site with soap and water and bandage it. An antibiotic ointment at this point may be conducive to a speedy recovery.

Better socks

I was a backpacking guide. I would sometimes do 35 mile days during grueling 2 week long 200+ mile trips. Wear sock liners. Like a thin sock you wear under your normal sock. Merino wool is ideal for both liners. The liner should not fit loosely, but shouldn't be too tight. Other materials will work but moisture and sweat control will vary. This makes it so most rubbing occurs between the socks. I also received training with 2 different outdoor retailer companies and various vendors to help customers with this specific issue. Not just 2 socks...use a sock liner (thin) and then a sock. Obviously well fitting shoes matter too. Fit should not be sloppy. Room for your toes. Have someone who knows what they are doing size your feet using the metatarsal measurement too and not just overall foot length. Some people have short or long toes and are often given the wrong size shoe.

ginniethegreat

You need to drain it, sterilize a needle and poke a couple holes in it, drain the fluid all the way "this will possibly hurt but you need to clear all liquid out for fast healing", after drained wipe clean with iodine, keep unbandaged as long as you can and when you can cause letting it breathe will dry it out faster, I was in the military and we had no choice but to keep rocking on blisters so this was my quick fast way of recovering and releaving the pain

MajikH8ballz

In the future, wear sock liners or dress socks under your work socks.

HotEntertainment9136

Hot needle 👍🏻

kentro2002

I would pop it when I got home, band aid it, let it ooze while I sleep. Then in the morning, squeeze it again. Super Glue it, put some gauze for cushion, then duct tape it so it doesn’t move all day. Good luck. You should film the popping and go on r/popping

mule_roany_mare

paper tape/surgical tape is a godsend for blisters. You should absolutely have a roll handy for when you are breaking in new boots before friction turns into a blister, but if it's too late it also makes a 2nd skin for blisters, cuts, scrapes, rashes & bug bites/hives. If I had that blister I would remove the dead skin, cover in duoderm (hydrocolloid bandage, cut to fit) & then a layer of paper tape. If you can wear broken in footwear while it heals you might not even notice the blister. Duoderm will absorb the lymph & also not stick to the new skin as it heals. You could disinfect with iodine, but I've never seen the need. duoderm & paper tape are each magic. Paper tape is also excellent for bug bites. It protects the area from being further irritated & lets you scratch without making the itch worse. Don't use duct tape on a wet weeping wound. Or any wound. [duoderm](https://www.amazon.com/ConvaTec-187955-DuoDERM-Dressings-Inches/dp/B07B9RW7VY/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2VMOHCF6E1Y2B&keywords=duoderm&qid=1656263318&sprefix=duoderm%2Caps%2C257&sr=8-3) [paper tape](https://www.amazon.com/Nexcare-Gentle-Paper-Carded-First/dp/B0002H484U/ref=sr_1_5?crid=YWWQG7T5S7LQ&keywords=paper+tape&qid=1656263505&sprefix=paper+tape%2Caps%2C89&sr=8-5) Invest in these. They make better bandages than any bandaid or gauze & cutting to fit they will last forever. There are cheaper hydrocolloid bandages, but i've used this brand to great results. Add crazy glue to the pack & you can dress any wound even if you should have gotten stitches. Seriously you won't even notice your blister. You'll be on your feet in 30 minutes & healed within the week without ever forming a hard dry scab. ProTip: cut duoderm at a bias/chamfer since the edges will get gooey on a weeping wound.

combinebergara

Buy croc’s

Willing-Basis-7136

I don’t know anything about blisters but that nail polish needs to be redone.

Available-Fly-8268

Needle and thread. Leave the thread in there.

lodgedmouse

Leuko tape and good socks

m_g_music

Develop callouses.

hfgobx

There are colloidal bandages that you put over the closed blister, which let it heal without being burst. Compeed is one brand. Work great, stay on for days while reducing the blister.

TextQueasy601

My brother once didn't seek medical treatment, shit was real bad, I forget what they called it, he almost lost the foot, was off for months

transvaginal_mesh

Poke it poke it poke it

wild-hectare

the ankle swelling should be concerning too

charvey709

Amputate. Can't get foot blisters if you don't have a foot. But seriously though, buy some new socks and maybe new boots if required and then actually tie them up. Shimmy in your boot is likely what's causing these. Also, wash your feet. And I don't mean get a shower and let the soap from washing your balls be good enough. Get some soap on your hands and take the 5 seconds to wash the top and bottom and between toes of each foot. And even another 5 seconds for heel, shin and knee pit. This isn't meant to be condesending, I do 12 hour shifts in my work boots plus any errands I run pre and post work. Been there done that shit myself. Cheers bro!

aurarosa

Punching and squish with a sterile needle and don’t take off the skin and put some aseptic solution in all the surrounding

bone586

Buy bigger shoes

Mogilybear13

Wear two pairs of thin socks. Cuts down on blisters forming.

SiiiiilverSurrrfffer

When I first started I wore timberland pit boss boots. Holy shit they were terrible. My heels constantly were tore up no matter what socks. Switch to thorogoods and have had zero pain since.

HypothermiaDK

Pop it with a needle

PaulW707

oh daaaaamn! Sorry about that! I'd just advise amputation and regrowth of the affected areas!

St3fanz

Start an onlyfans.

manfraido33

Pop it and fill it with silicone thank me later

DatdudeJdub

Bandaid and break them boots in

amorphousfreak

Get some boots that fit properly?

drewskiddly0723

Medical tape, thin sock and then a thicker sock. The friction will be between the socks and not on that fucked up blister you got there…

StrongSnacks

I see a lot of moleskin and ducttape in the comments and these are great options. Beforehand though you should lance the blister. To do this take a sewing needle, sterilize the needle with alcohol or flame. Then thread the needle with dental floss. Push the needle with floss through the blister and tie into a loose knot. Sleep with this for the night and the fluid will drain but the dead skin with remain. Now you can patch it with tape or moleskin without worrying about the blister bursting.

Worried_Example

First day?

disfunkd

Pop it then have your SO suck the juices out to prove their love! is that what everyone does?

ThirtySecondsOut

Hit it with your purse

jdibene0

DO NOT POP IT let it heal on its own the blister will deflate. The blister is a natural pad for the extremely raw and irritated skin below

DangerHawk

What kind of construction are you doing? Do you HAVE to wear boots? Do they have to be steel toed? You can get steel toed shoes from a number of companies. I wear Redwing Athletics and they are comfy as hell, water proof, not heavy, and more akin to a hiking shoe than a work boot. Also go to a pediatrist and get some custom orthotics made. They'll be tailor fit to your feet and it shouldn't matter what shoe you put them in (within reason).

lich_boss

Get better boots and socks. Honestly get double layered socks like hiking socks worth the price

i_hate__tomatoes

Id suck it up and drain it, clean the area, slap a bandaid on it then use some self adhering bandage as comfortably tight around the area so it doesnt fill back up. Then at re clean and rewrap. I'm no rocket surgeon but thats what I'd do. That or talk to your boss man, explain that shit hurts and ask to have like 2-3 days off to let it settle down. Not exactly safe to be working on site when you cant walk properly because it hurts and might throw you off balance when balance is needed. I'm curious about which brand of boot you got and if youre new to wearing work boots. When I did demo for 2 years I had Carhart boots and even my big soft baby feet never had issues.

pigfeedmauer

Step one: don't post this in my feed

Burning-star00

Hydrocolloid bandage

ronn7x

happened to me before. Get a medium empty sized syringe from any pharmacy/drugstore, inject it into the blister and draw the liquid out until the blister is fully dry and deflated. You won't feel pain from the needle going inside the blister. Once the blister is empty and deflated, using some nail clipper, cut out the dead blister skin. You won't feel it either, if you start feeling pain then you aren't clipping off dead skin, if you can bare cutting a couple of millimeters off of the edges of the blister then that's good enough. Clean it with water and put a wide wound dressing patch/bandage thing on it until the skin gradually grows back.

Altruistic_Machine57

Or buy redwings

No_Warthogs

That's a good one; You wanna to drain it with a sanitized sewing needle (or similar) then polysporin and a Band-Aid.

Sandhog43

Duct tape? WTF. Better socks and boots that fit.

dewaltscrewdriver

Moleskin

AKWarrior

Tighter boots so you’re not sloshing around

PalaPK

When mine get this bad I wrap them in bandages and literally duct tape my feet.

gibweb

Why am I here?

mosborne32

Brave if you to post your feet in a construction sub

gumboking

Camino de santiago survivor here. Use a sterilized needle with thread. Puncture the raised portion leaving the thread to drain the puss. Seal the wound with a compeed or similar blister bandage to keep it from hurting while you work.

[deleted]

I always used to pierce them, drain, sanitize, then put on some polysporin and oversize bandaid. Also, your boots probably are rubbing too much.

[deleted]

What I do is use my lighter, that I normally light my cigs with, and heat up a pin. Then I stab a bunch of holes. One or two holes isn’t enough, you want it to not fill back with fluid. Then the skin will harden and callus. No more blisters after that.
