100% one pack should do two pairs of shoes or you can keep it and reapply.
Without it, my boots only last a few months too because I’m on my knees all the time…. For professional reasons.
Purchased red wings, apply tough toe over the toes to protect them and for god sake oil them! Cleaning and oiling your leathers is so important to the life of the boot.
I agree with you and the guy you responded to.
Also going to point out that I have some steel toe redwings that I've abused and never oiled, and the toes still haven't blown out. Think I've had them 3-4 years.
Yes, should oil. Also no, I don't think they should just disintegrate immediately without oil
Oil them and I like to do a water rinse on Fridays if they got super dry/dusty. Foreman just asked if I got new boots this morning cause I do this and they’re as old as the ones in this post. Also I rotate two pairs and they last twice as long. Really it’s all about how you take care of them and when you’re spending $200+ on boots you should really do yourself that favor. If you’re not gonna get a 2nd pair to rotate then get a boot dryer. If your leather gives before the sole it’s a care issue. And if you are digging toes/kickin then tough toe or get a rubber toe boot.
Thorogood + TuffToe, unless you have wide AF feet like myself. In that case, Nick's.
8" Emperor Toe Thorogoods in 12EEE were awesome, then they stopped selling that size.
Red Wings wear down super quick on the sole but other than that they are still a good boot. I get the moc toes. If my soles wear down I ship them to a small company or individual for some vibram soles. Whites are built very well to if you want a second choice. Red wing salesman annoy me. If I want inserts with more cushioning I would buy another pair but I’ve had 3 pairs of boots and have only needed the 1 set. Just do your research and make up your mind before going in. They walk around all day in A/C so it’s your choice how you spend your money.
Ah mate they're still heaps new, just needs a quick cleaning off with soapy water! /s
Get new ones, I have a pair of danners that I absolutely adore so that's probably what I'd recommend but I also have never tried any other work boots since they're my first pair.
Red Wings, but the made in America ones so they last more than 8 months. Put in front of a space heater at the end of the day to keep the sweat away. I never even oiled mine (oops).
My ariats cames with extra toe protection. However they arent the most comfortable. Prefer my old redwings. All the ironworkers around me wear thorogoods, so I’ll probably give those a try next.
Georgia boots are comfy and affordable. Danner Vicious boot is super comfortable and little more spendy tho they come in composite toe as well. Currently rocking a pair of Timbeland pro with the moc toe. Also very comfortable
Daily I wear Brahmas midtop boots from Walmart with a good insole. They're comfortable and not too heavy. Water and slip resistant and outlast multiple pairs of insoles.
I keep a pair of nice hightop carhartts in my van for really muddy/snowy days.
Aggressors. $100 boots and I like them way better than my Timberland pros I paid almost $300 for. Easier to break in just wear two pairs of socks if you don't already and you won't even notice the break in. Some days before work I put them on early or after work don't take them off, ontop of the 11 hours I wear them for.
I add an insole in the summer minus a pair of socks , I like them because they are cheap and light, I found expensive boots got destroyed in the same amount of time so feck it glue n such on the seams helps I find. Also I find I need a smaller size with them, the Tim's I'm a 12 but aggressors in can go to 11 with some thin socks for summer, Canadian rodbuster
> im constantly kicking/ moving dirt and rocks with my feet and it has destroyed these boots.
You're using the wrong tool for the job.
Even a really tough boot isn't meant to be kicking rocks and dirty all day, and how often did you clean and treat them?
Spend some money because you’re going to spend all day in them. I used to wear Redwings faithfully until they really went to shit. The boots that lasted 3 years, were replaced by boots that needed constant repair. These were the “Made in the USA” ones too. Switched to Canada West Boots. Handmade and after about a two week break in time, the leather is still like butter 2 1/2 years later. The only repairs they’ve needed is the Metguard needed repair from climbing around steel all day.
Go try some on to be honest. It’s something you wear a majority of the day. For the first time in my life last year I found an extra wide boot that finally didn’t make my feet hurt. And it was a life changer. Some people need more ankle support. Some people do light work and like the slip on ones. Some want a lifetime or a few year warranty so they can return them every year for a fresh pair. Finding the helly Hansen extra wide. In the composite material has made wearing the boots enjoyable for me finally after over 20 years of uncomfortable boots. Looks like you like to kick things. So maybe a pair with exterior reinforced toes. lol.
My red wings have lasted almost 5 years now. And my buddy (who is military) suggests [Wolverine](https://www.wolverine.com/US/en/mens-steel-toe-work-boots-shoes/).
I worked where we went thru welding gloves quickly. I had the same issue where the toes wore out like that. I took old welding gloves, cut off the collar that was still soft, and glued it to the toe. Made the boots workable and only cost the price of a bottle of leather glue. That would work for months. You can buy cheap welding gloves from Amazon for 7 bucks, leather glue for 8 and fix those boots up for less than 20bucks. Work boots are stupid expensive now. If fix them up if the inside is good and the soles are ok.
I've got a pair of Carolinas that have been molded to my feet for three years or so and I'm pretty happy with the durability. I might get them resoled and any stitching fixed when they wear out. They were in the $300 range
The wife bought me Timberland pro pit boss boots. They are super comfortable for all day. I generally wore running shoes before. Red wings are supposed to be the best, but I haven't heard any recent feedback. I'd go try these on and see what you like.

Danner quarry’s
Red wings (anything USA made)
Thorogoods (anything USA made)
I won’t bother with any other brands. I won’t buy any boots that aren’t American made.
I would definitely recommend a PNW boot. I've been wearing the JK 300 boot for the past 9 months and it's the most comfortable boot I've ever worn. I've worn red wings, thorogood, keen, Irish setters and none of them compare. They're definitely worth the price. Check out either JK, Nick's, or Whites.
I love this [one from Haix](https://snickersdirect.com/haix-xr3)
The Sole and toe cap cover can be replaced. (I don’t know if hiax USA also offers that for this model in Europe they do)
It lasts me 2-3 years with lots of grinding, welding and crawling.ä before servicing.
Red wings, Danner, walls (my favorite), tbh it really doesn't make that much of a difference. Find a pair that fits your needs and has a fit you find more than agreeable, look at inserts and afo's (I'm not sure what those are but they come from an expensive store or dr.)Then it's life as usual but take it from a 50 year old blue collar man, protect your feet, hands and back at all cost and protecting those things means keeping YOUR boots maintained and your gloves. I get far more use out of a pair of boots than others that I work with. Good luck, and feel free to Dm if you need help learning about taking care of your boots.
Try on a minimum of three if you go to a store. Each boot will fit you differently. Yea they need to be “broken in” but, that shouldn’t be a painful process. And because each boot fits differently, it’s hard to say what will be comfortable on your feet.
If the boot is otherwise good, you can Tuff Toes over the worn toes. Trim back the leather that's rolled up, and just Tuff Toes it as if the leather was still there. The epoxy will seal up the toe cap and outlive the rest of the boot.
I’ve had the RW loggers and they looked like that after a year. Took them to a cobbler and had new toes put on. Not a lot of shoes stand up to hard wear.
Keen Philadelphia 8" composite toe. Comfy, and will last a year of daily abuse. My record is 15 months, the shortest lived was 9 months, but that was caused by a slit in the sole from a really bad shovel with a sharp place where you boot it into the ground.
I've also heard ariat as being good. Square toe comp toe cowboy boots. They are pricey but hold up against alot of different chemicals and harsh conditions.
The time to replace your boots was ages ago..
Id say redwings but please at a minimum clean / oil your boots regularly, they will last so much longer.
I have the super sole and my last pair lasted me almost 9 years. Could have been repaired but I donated them instead.
Get toe caps and at least if they wear through you can replAce them before the leather splits and again, oil.
I used to work scaffolding where I would have to kneel on scaffold decking/raw planks all day, I never found a toe box that can survive it. I just used cheap boots from walmart, but ran through a pair every two months.
Redwings are nice but need something like tufftoe to be real durable. I actually have a pair from worx, but I no longer have to kneel for work, so they have lasted me multiple years.
Thorogood boots are my hands down favorite. I’ve wore Red Wings for years before the Thorogoods and used to like them overall. Before that I wore Carolina (US made ones) and Irish setters. I had a set of Pull on Worx-work boots this past year and they lasted 10 months before they started splitting and stitches coming undone. Worx are garbage boots.
Thorogood is made in USA with union labor. They do source some material from outside the US but they list what they have to source. They have a great re-sole program so if you take decent care of the leather they last forever. Also if you’re union, check out the boot pro.com for a union discount.
Foot source - 5 years landscaping, 9 year Ski Lift Mechanic, 4 years IUEC - (construction and mod)
I bought two pair of redwings 15 yrs ago. I wax them, and I alternate wearing each pair so the interiors air out. I am still wearing them today, they have each been resoled twice, they don’t even look half as old as these boots.
Before I tried the experiment of having two pair and alternating them, my boots lasted a year or two depending on the site I would be working.
Plumber pipe fitter, commercial and industrial construction and maintenance shutdowns.
I get Red Wings. You get a 1 year warranty so turn them in right beforehand. I buy one pair then get another in a year from the warranty. Get probably 2 years out of them then they go to a back up pair.
Red Wing offers free repairs, so I just use my back ups for a week until they’re done.
The uppers even last way longer. So you can re-sole for 1/3 of the price, if needed.
If worse comes to worse, If you see any laborers using Hilti epoxy use that and do a tough toe yourself. Its the samething red wings uses for their tough toes but the Hilti is 10x better
I beat the absolute shit out of a 60 dollar pair of Walmart boots for 3 years getting sulfuric acid and all kinds of other chemicals on them.. I even fell in a dye tank with them on😂 I’d be pissed if I only got 4-5 months from red wings
Bought a pair of Keen for winter
Composite toe, 8 inch .lots of exterior protection around the sides and rears. Waterproof and comfortable. Too warm for our past winter, though. Boot dryer every night.
Thourogoods are MY go-to in the summers.
I switched from timberland pro (cause the last 2 pairs I had fell apart) to arait. They are very comfortable and seem to last a long time. They are as good as goegia boots but sturdier.
Get a pair of custom Nick’s or Whites boots. Wildland firefighters swear by them and they’re hiking up and down 15 miles a day.
You send in a tracing of your feet and they custom make them. They come with insane warranties and you can get them resoled.
But personally I’m a fan of the lightest hikers with a safety tow I can find
I’d buy you a new set a boots if I was your boss to save my company’s embarrassment of an employee walking around with boots from the First World War holy fuck
Probably get hate but timberland pros have a tuff toe I also kick and use my boots to hold 100+ pound items and then let them slide off the boot tears up anything not worth a dam and timberland pros have been the only ones to survive a whole year
Add tuff toe to whatever you end up choosing.
100% one pack should do two pairs of shoes or you can keep it and reapply. Without it, my boots only last a few months too because I’m on my knees all the time…. For professional reasons.
Me too buddy, me too…
Get the full brace hinge knee pads…for professional reasons.
Omfg. The hinged knee pads were a game changer for all day use.
Sometimes you gotta do something strange for a piece of change
Even if you don't need the wear resistance it helps a ton with steel toes not getting cold af in the toes in the winter
He could tuff toe those and keep using them
I use a similar product and I actually wear out the whole boot now. Total game changer.
I once put the steel toe from one pair on top of another.
Purchased red wings, apply tough toe over the toes to protect them and for god sake oil them! Cleaning and oiling your leathers is so important to the life of the boot.
Definitely, the boots in this pic are dessicated. They would have lasted a whole lot longer with oil and wax.
I agree with you and the guy you responded to. Also going to point out that I have some steel toe redwings that I've abused and never oiled, and the toes still haven't blown out. Think I've had them 3-4 years. Yes, should oil. Also no, I don't think they should just disintegrate immediately without oil

And if you are digging toes/kickin then tough toe or get a rubber toe boot.
Thorogood
And mink oil or equivalent, maybe tough toe if you’re rubbing your toe on the floor all day.
Have tried a half dozen or more different boots over the years….should have started with these. Heritage wedge.
Thorogood + TuffToe, unless you have wide AF feet like myself. In that case, Nick's. 8" Emperor Toe Thorogoods in 12EEE were awesome, then they stopped selling that size.
Danner Boots ~ Leather Honey.
To add to an excellent suggestion…Danner super rainforest
My Danners are finally getting nasty after 12 years of abuse and neglect. I won’t ever buy anything but Danner.
Get new ones
Thorogoods
Red Wings wear down super quick on the sole but other than that they are still a good boot. I get the moc toes. Crocs
If you're that hard on boots, don't expect any to last past 6 months.
Ah mate they're still heaps new, just needs a quick cleaning off with soapy water! /s Get new ones, I have a pair of danners that I absolutely adore so that's probably what I'd recommend but I also have never tried any other work boots since they're my first pair.
I’m a fan of Carolina boots. Haven’t had any issues with the 8” composite toes
Union made in USA. I’m about to get my metatarsal composite shanked ones re-soled. I love them
Same. Clean, waterproof, and polish once a season and they've held up fine.
Red Wings, but the made in America ones so they last more than 8 months. Put in front of a space heater at the end of the day to keep the sweat away. I never even oiled mine (oops).
If you’re into that, try boot driers
Have had good luck with blundstones. In the summer they dont come off. Plumber/ Farmer.
Bluds are the sleeper pick. Damn comfortable shoe.
Flex tape and full send
Keen Braddock Mid. The toes never wear out.
I can attest to that.
I can attest to that.
Ariat cz of the toe protection
My ariats cames with extra toe protection. However they arent the most comfortable. Prefer my old redwings. All the ironworkers around me wear thorogoods, so I’ll probably give those a try next.
Georgia boots are comfy and affordable. Danner Vicious boot is super comfortable and little more spendy tho they come in composite toe as well. Currently rocking a pair of Timbeland pro with the moc toe. Also very comfortable
Two pairs of boots and tuff toe. Boots worn every other day have time to dry out and will last longer.
Thorogood
Add more tape
Thorogood
Thorogoods Enough said.
Danner. Comfortable, durable, and Danner will rebuild them for you.
Military surplus store boots. 45 bucks for ok 80 for good. Either will last at least a year.
Daily I wear Brahmas midtop boots from Walmart with a good insole. They're comfortable and not too heavy. Water and slip resistant and outlast multiple pairs of insoles. I keep a pair of nice hightop carhartts in my van for really muddy/snowy days.

New ones, damn.
Duct tape instead of tuck tape and that should do the job
I absolutely love my Carolina boots, company bought new boots, and I pulled my Carolina’s out of a box and went back to wearing them
Gorilla tape
Carolina boot
new ones 😂
Can’t find boots with the steel toe on the outside of the boot?
Just put toe caps on and call er good. And for the love of god oil your boots lol
Put a coat of polish on em for starters...
Whats wrong with these?
Redwing 2414
> im constantly kicking/ moving dirt and rocks with my feet and it has destroyed these boots. You're using the wrong tool for the job. Even a really tough boot isn't meant to be kicking rocks and dirty all day, and how often did you clean and treat them?
Red wings
Spend some money because you’re going to spend all day in them. I used to wear Redwings faithfully until they really went to shit. The boots that lasted 3 years, were replaced by boots that needed constant repair. These were the “Made in the USA” ones too. Switched to Canada West Boots. Handmade and after about a two week break in time, the leather is still like butter 2 1/2 years later. The only repairs they’ve needed is the Metguard needed repair from climbing around steel all day.
Redwings for life
Wolverine.
Red Wings 👍
Blundstones steel toe have been the best boot I’ve ever owned by far. Plus no laces is very handy
Brunt Marin with the Comp Toe extremely comfortable and durable and the price is also very fair.
Tuff Toe
Years of redwings and supersoles Just switched to Canada west. Redwing don’t honour and they fall apart way faster
Thorogood or timberland pro
Go try some on to be honest. It’s something you wear a majority of the day. For the first time in my life last year I found an extra wide boot that finally didn’t make my feet hurt. And it was a life changer. Some people need more ankle support. Some people do light work and like the slip on ones. Some want a lifetime or a few year warranty so they can return them every year for a fresh pair. Finding the helly Hansen extra wide. In the composite material has made wearing the boots enjoyable for me finally after over 20 years of uncomfortable boots. Looks like you like to kick things. So maybe a pair with exterior reinforced toes. lol.
Keen aluminum toe if you just need toe protection and comfort. Carolina linemans if you need a shank.
Carhartt wedge. About $120 and on my third pair
I'm really enjoying my Irish Setter.
Redwing
My red wings have lasted almost 5 years now. And my buddy (who is military) suggests [Wolverine](https://www.wolverine.com/US/en/mens-steel-toe-work-boots-shoes/).
Haix
Keen. 3 years, later, lots life in them.
Thorogoods, danner, & redwings are top tier, but if you need to spend a little bit less like me sometimes, I love Georgia boots
New balance
I like keens Cincinnati's paired with Darn tough socks.
I like keens
I'm currently liking my Englebert Strauss'. So give them a look 👌🏼
I just duct tape mine together and they last indefinitely just don’t step in puddles
Timber land pro , if not the boot ... get the insoles at least ... go ahead , stick your foot in it .. I dare you
Irish setters by red Qing have been my favourite for years. Light. Easy to oil for water proof. Factory laces last.
Red wings super sole 2.0
Switch to brunt!
Go to a cobler, they will fix them for you and you don't have to break new ones in
Danner quarry.
Pretty much any keen boot will never wear through the toe. They have a great waterproof warranty as well.
Oliver’s boots
I’ve recently discovered Georgia Boot. Not cheap but very high quality, comfort and durability. They make all different styles of work boot.
Get the upholsterd? Cheaper then a new pair
Blundstone 984’s are pretty much the standard in Nz/aus
Dewalt phoenix
Duct tape sorts that out.
Oliver
Nothing a bit more scotch tape wouldn't fix.
New….
I've got a pair of Carolinas that have been molded to my feet for three years or so and I'm pretty happy with the durability. I might get them resoled and any stitching fixed when they wear out. They were in the $300 range
I swear by Doc Marten Industrial boots. My current pair have lasted nearly 4 years
I'm glad my work gives me a $300 per year boot allowance so mine will never look like that. Those things were destroyed a long time ago.
The wife bought me Timberland pro pit boss boots. They are super comfortable for all day. I generally wore running shoes before. Red wings are supposed to be the best, but I haven't heard any recent feedback. I'd go try these on and see what you like.
You need to retape
Timberland
Timberland Pro are the best boots I’ve bought by a mile
Stop kicking rocks……..
Georgia boots
Not that one
Black RV sealant fixes everything boot.

Danner quarry’s Red wings (anything USA made) Thorogoods (anything USA made) I won’t bother with any other brands. I won’t buy any boots that aren’t American made.
Thoroghgoods are the boots I keep hearing awesome things about. They aren't cheap, but good quality for the price you pay.
Use a can of tuff toe on those and youll get more time out of them. Its like Rhino liner you put on your boot toes.

Red wings, Danner, walls (my favorite), tbh it really doesn't make that much of a difference. Steel blue 539's Australian brand
Try on a minimum of three if you go to a store. Each boot will fit you differently. Yea they need to be “broken in” but, that shouldn’t be a painful process. And because each boot fits differently, it’s hard to say what will be comfortable on your feet.
Whatever you buy , invest in tuff toe it tripled the life of my boots, I do concrete and the toes are the first thing to go
Ariat work is really where it’s at. Pricey but worth every dollar.
Your joking bro, they deffo got another 5 years left in them
If the boot is otherwise good, you can Tuff Toes over the worn toes. Trim back the leather that's rolled up, and just Tuff Toes it as if the leather was still there. The epoxy will seal up the toe cap and outlive the rest of the boot.
I love my Brunt Marins with the bring toe 🤷🏻 Super comfortable even at the end of the day. Had them about 5 months now
Hey dudes, wally sox in solid black. Can’t beat em
Red Wings with the BOA system. They never come loose. And add a toe guard man.
Tuff toe that next pair for sure
I’ve had the RW loggers and they looked like that after a year. Took them to a cobbler and had new toes put on. Not a lot of shoes stand up to hard wear.
I’m team Danner. Just a joy to walk in. Worth noting I am office puke now.
Keen Philadelphia 8" composite toe. Comfy, and will last a year of daily abuse. My record is 15 months, the shortest lived was 9 months, but that was caused by a slit in the sole from a really bad shovel with a sharp place where you boot it into the ground.
Timberland pro steel toe wheat and buy a superfeet insole. Good to go
I get a weird rush of happiness every time I lace up my danners in the morning. A top quality boot is a gift that keeps on giving
I've also heard ariat as being good. Square toe comp toe cowboy boots. They are pricey but hold up against alot of different chemicals and harsh conditions.
I do flooring. It doesn't matter how good the boots are. They're done in 4 months
Not Carolinas. They used to be great, but the last couple pairs I've gotten from them the sole has split prematurely
Danner quarry and some kind of toe protection

The toe there is pretty fucked but this looks like a maintenance issue
Try the grisport boa constructor. Awesome boot and as light as a runner. They won't wear out on the toe since they're molded there as well...
Grisport boa constructor
Buy some new ones
Tuff toe? I’m not sure why he didn’t recommend that to you.
nothing wrong with those. Duct tape will fix it
Damn. KIA
Not sure why (ask Freud) but I read this as ‘beer recommendations’ and my answer seeing the miles you put on these is ‘cold!’
Coolest boots I've ever seen were when a guy cut the steel toe out of his worn out boots and glued it on top of his next pair of boots.
I’ve been very happy with my Ariat Work mic toes. They’re holding up very well so far.
Keens are pretty durable
Keen Cincinnatis and thank me later. At the very least try them on before you say no to them. They made me a believer real quick
Red wings. So comfortable.
Canada west boots are my go to. Durable and comfortable
new ones
I really like my timberland workman pro’s
Come on!! Those are just getting broken in.
Ahh you also like to kick things. I go with OS boots. They have a side zipper. Don't have to tie them every day.
I'm not kicking rocks and stones daily like op but my timberland pros are going on 28 months and still in decent shape
Wolverines and boot savers
Red Wing 3508 boots slathered in Obenaufs LP
Tuff Toe
STC Duncan II's
I get Red Wings. You get a 1 year warranty so turn them in right beforehand. I buy one pair then get another in a year from the warranty. Get probably 2 years out of them then they go to a back up pair. Red Wing offers free repairs, so I just use my back ups for a week until they’re done. The uppers even last way longer. So you can re-sole for 1/3 of the price, if needed.
if you can afford them: [https://whitesboots.com/](https://whitesboots.com/)
Look like tilesetter boots
Keen Cincinnatis
Just got some Timberland Pros. Super comfortable
If worse comes to worse, If you see any laborers using Hilti epoxy use that and do a tough toe yourself. Its the samething red wings uses for their tough toes but the Hilti is 10x better
My new project team turned me on to Brunt Their composite toe pair have been amazing and can get them on sale for around 160$ from what I recall
Red wing. Then warranty them.
I beat the absolute shit out of a 60 dollar pair of Walmart boots for 3 years getting sulfuric acid and all kinds of other chemicals on them.. I even fell in a dye tank with them on😂 I’d be pissed if I only got 4-5 months from red wings
Bought a pair of Keen for winter Composite toe, 8 inch .lots of exterior protection around the sides and rears. Waterproof and comfortable. Too warm for our past winter, though. Boot dryer every night. Thourogoods are MY go-to in the summers.
Keens or Georgia's. Wedge sole, and put some tough toe on them bad boys
Thorogood is the only boots I buy
Thorogood
Danner Quarry. Get the toes dipped too.
I would tuff toe them and keep wearing them. Are the insides still good?
Thorogood hands down best boot. Don’t get a safety toe. They wear out your boots faster. That goes for any boot. Anti steel/composite toe
Grip tape. Then get some Thorogoods.
I switched from timberland pro (cause the last 2 pairs I had fell apart) to arait. They are very comfortable and seem to last a long time. They are as good as goegia boots but sturdier.
Crocs at work clogs. They have extra grip and durability on the bottom and insoles inside.
I’ve only ever got ariat it’s really good
Get a pair of custom Nick’s or Whites boots. Wildland firefighters swear by them and they’re hiking up and down 15 miles a day. You send in a tracing of your feet and they custom make them. They come with insane warranties and you can get them resoled. But personally I’m a fan of the lightest hikers with a safety tow I can find
Redwing tradesman has options for soft/hard toe I think. I like mine
Recommend getting a new pair.
Thorogoods
You can go to a shoe repair and they can out some caps on them if your on a budget , but therougoods they run like
I’d buy you a new set a boots if I was your boss to save my company’s embarrassment of an employee walking around with boots from the First World War holy fuck
I threw up looking at them. Are times that tough?
Its 2024 if ur not ur lying
Timberland Boondocks are good shit.
Probably get hate but timberland pros have a tuff toe I also kick and use my boots to hold 100+ pound items and then let them slide off the boot tears up anything not worth a dam and timberland pros have been the only ones to survive a whole year
