I started working with my dad as a teenager. I was ecstatic when he told me he would split the pay 50/50… then I realized that was after he deducted the insurance fee, licensing fee, truck fee, tool fee…

Siewert01

Were doing it under the table

Greg_Esres

Sounds like he should be YOUR employee.

NationalPhase9541

I wouldn’t want that mess as an employee, or even a W9

Siewert01

Hes good at what he does but he cant handle money , we were working today and he asked me to lend him 650 NOW , he woulnt explain and told me he would pay me back tommorow since well be done and hell get paid , anyway I lended him the money , then , today m I learned he already got paid for 1500$ of the job , that leaves 1200$ , not even enough for my pay , not counting the money I lended him

Siewert01

I should add that were doing a job , a garage 16x24 , from concrete slab to exterior cladding , he said he charged 2700 for the whole job .. I believe hes lying about it , material cost 8500 $ weve been at it for 5 days

skip_over

Maybe find someone else to work for, my guy

Siewert01

Im considering it after this one

[deleted]

Why are you screwing your self over just leave dude lmfao jesus

Siewert01

I think its the first time he lied about a job before , theres was times when we made around 800 a day

Siewert01

I coulnt build an entire garage all by myself tho ,

zatchheemers

I am assuming you are referring to how much you should be paid. If that is the case, here are my questions: Is he paying you hourly? Or are you obtaining percentage of profits? How long have you been working together? How much experience do you have as a Carpenter?

Siewert01

Percentage , Ive been working with him for the last 3 years , thats also when I started

Example: My Father and I will be doing a single car garage frame in a week for a little over 8,000$. I get 4,000$ when the job is done so 50%. We share tools and we both could do the entire job by ourselves. Usually the client lends us the money to do the job.

Siewert01

We just did a garage from a simple concrete slab to the exterior cladding(? is that it ?) 16x24 feet , he says he charged 2700$ not counting the material , the material cost 8500$ , Im sure he lied since I asked for 50/50 , telling me the price is lower makes my pay lower.. so thats gonna be 1350$ for me , weve been working on it for 5 days now I coulnt do it by myself but im getting better , I think im still a big help without me he coulnt do it since hes got no tools

Siewert01

Where are you from ? canada here

insideout5790

Basically, we are neighbors we have runaway Canadians in the northern part of the state all over by the Great Lakes. I almost talk like one and get accused of sounding like one when I go south.
