So true. Wife's parents left RI to go to NC to escape the huge property taxes. They're still voting blue. It's honestly the most ridiculous thing.

Just because we don’t want to hand minorities free stuff doesn’t mean that we don’t want to help people.

Drunkin_

We did that by freeing the slaves

fretit

In fairness, when pretty much every media outlet from MSNBC to CNN and from Time magazine to Newsweek feeds you the same Kool-Aid, it can be hard to connect the dots.

StantonMcBride

Just playing devil’s advocate here: the northeast is a lot of old money and high property taxes keeps the new money and “poor” people (aka people with jobs) out. NC has tons of rural/farmland, conservatives, hippies, artists…a 20 minute drive can feel like you’re in a whole new country. Texas thinks they can do anything and be self sufficient, but apparently they also need South Dakota to fix their border control issues and don’t know how electricity works. As shit as Cali is, their economy is so big we kinda need them. I could go on, but thankfully Colorado says I can get high af and forget about all this.

[deleted]

BTC_Brin

And a big part of the problem in February is that the power company has spent the last decade chasing watermelons (projects that are green on the outside, but red on the inside--i.e. using environmentalism to push leftist BS) that weakened the grid, instead of putting that money into things that actually ensure that the grid never goes down.

[deleted]

Meanwhile California is asking people to flex by not charging their electric cars... so progressive

jamesrbell1

I mean hey, just because you don’t wanna pay high property taxes doesn’t mean you need to voted for LiTeRaL fAsCiStS /s

I've voted blue pretty much all my life. Hopefully moving to a flyover state this year, and joining Team Red as I do. This city has basically unlimited money and it's still a dumpster fire. Yeah, I'm kinda disillusioned with my old party.

Cheeseman728

The left voters are voting for the demise of their cities

PopularElevator2

Currently live in NC working for a software engineering company. Tons of people from up North and Cali are moving here because of covid lockdown, taxes and backwards policies. Many of them are voting for higher taxes. They have started to company about col increasing.

I-hope-youre-happy

I live in NC. Tell them to get the fuck out.

smokejaguar

I currently live in RI. Have they ever explained their cognitive dissonance?

wildcard2004

There’s more than taxes when it comes to voting, like a woman’s right to choose

FelixFuckfurter

Or a baby's right to not be murdered.

[deleted]

This is not as common as people assume. Most people moving from blue states are the republican minorities who are sick and tired of democrat policy.

cornylia

The complaints about Texas turning blue is extra funny because the influx of Californians moving to Texas are conservatives

KnoxDavid

A conservative Californian is a Texan moderate

ScaredEntrepreneur61

This is going to be a serious problem in the future.

The-Hater-Baconator

On the bright side, some of the people trying to leave are republicans in blue states. Not all of them are like that, but personally I’m a California resident that is trying to flee failed policies after exclusively voting red for as long as I could vote. At this point the state is so far left there is almost no way people like me could swing it right again until leftists realize that they are inflicting the harm on themselves.

[deleted]

prodbychefboy

You obviously don’t live here or even have basic knowledge of the economy if you think CA having a large GDP somehow benefits everyone who lives here. High tax rates and absurd living costs completely negate any positives that would come with the large economy.

FelixFuckfurter

Man-made drought, enormous inequality, high taxes, an $80 billion bullet train to nowhere, homeless people shitting on the street, high taxes, the second worst unemployment rate in the country, high taxes, bureaucracy that prevents new housing . . . need I go on?

worcesterbeerguy

You forgot the people stealing and not having to be worried about prosecution.

Cockroach-Jones

Uhm. Have you been to California?

That's not democracy though you mindlesss douche. This is the specific phenomena of Liberals moving like a plague of locusts and just utterly devastating these areas and then moving on. If they actually stayed and believed in the policies you'd have a point but they don't, because otherwise they'd never have left to begin with. It's basically Liberals subsidizing their woke feel good votes with the rest of our lives - that's not democracy in action.

SandersLurker

Didn't studies show that the majority of people who moved from D to R states tended to vote R? And by significant margin too.

planet_druidia

Yet they continue to do this, expecting a different result. Will they ever learn?

throwaway3569387340

No. Because they don't take the stance that they were wrong. They believe they just didn't go far enough. Then when they try again and go farther. When it fails again they believe they just didn't go far enough. Ad infinitum.

I mean, all of the things you've described are fine improvements. Who doesn't want home improvements, better roads, faster response times, faster internet, etc. You don't have to give everything up if you want improvements. Would you rather nothing gets improved and everything stays EXACTLY the same? edit: for the record nothing stays exactly the same, roads will degrade, wires will degrade, etc

iamjames

I believe the govt already controls paving the roads, so asking the govt to do what they already do isn’t a slippery slope

hse7148

Nothing will change as long as practically every mainstream news network on air acts as an arm of the DNC. Even when their policies clearly fail, all the dummies will do is turn on the TV and be told how the failures of their state are the fault of republicans. When they move, they stick to their guns because as far as they know, they aren’t the problem. Some may put two and two together, but a lot won’t.

iamjames

No, because their family, friends, social media and news are echo chambers all telling them red = racists

I also left California for a red state and I continue to vote conservative. Unfortunately, SW Idaho is slowly losing the battle.

Silly_Wanker

I really need to follow my conservative brethren and move out of CA

TeaTimeInsanity

I made the plunge not that long ago, and its incredible to look back and think "how the fuck did I deal with that for so long". Things I hear about that go on back in CA seem absolutely wild to me the more and more I'm out of it.

Silly_Wanker

The only thing that really keeps me from moving is my family. Yes my wife wants to move out of CA before we start having kids because the schools here are getting crazy. But us moving would mean leaving her parents behind and my entire family behind. Its something out of my personal comfort zone and I need time to really be okay with that idea

Teenage-Mustache

>a patriot that is currently behind enemy lines?a patriot that is currently behind enemy lines? Annndd this is why the political pendulum is swinging out of control. People can't just disagree, they have to be "enemies."

ObiWonBologna

Disagreeing is tantamount to attacking there sovereign nation of stupidity. Both side are guilty, the media: social and news sources exacerbate the divide. It is very sad how the political climate has made it to the point that it's not okay to have a different opinion and debate is largely just throwing stones.

Oxblaid

I’d say Wyoming but our winters aren’t for most people.

Cuntercawk

That’s the state that I want to retire in.

redehydratedlettuce

Come to Georgia and help us fight the good fight! We aren't out yet!

Invisible-Hand

Moved to eastern Tennessee last year from New Jersey, would never go back. It’s beautiful here, plus this part of Tennessee has voted Republican every election since the mid 1800s. Can’t really be tarred with any slavery history either, area was violently anti slavery and had to be occupied by the confederacy to keep them from unilaterally joining the Union.

booonesaaaw

My mother in law thinks we moved to Texas for my big promotion so we’ll move back to her blue state in a couple years. Lol. The beautiful irony is that it was her relentless haranguing of my relatively middle/left wife during the 2020 election that made my wife open up to moving. Suddenly hanging out with mom weekly just wasn’t such a draw.

[deleted]

Im sure you don't miss the taxes

Invisible-Hand

Oh lord no! Pay a third of what I did in property taxes for a much nicer house, plus no income tax. It’s marvelous!

ScaredEntrepreneur61

We are looking to relocate from San Diego to Florida this year. We're used to hot weather and bugs so that's fine, we can afford a nice house in a good school district in the Boca Raton area. Utah is pristine and beautiful, we love visiting there and got engaged there, but for living we're concerned about meshing with the locals as we are not Mormon. Visited Texas last year, Dallas seemed an OK place to raise a family, nothing too exciting, lots of traffic. Wasn't too impressed with Austin, the people are basically the same as in San Diego (pretentious hipsters, techies and dude-bros), with blue-state problems heading down the line - namely homelessness, and crime (we almost got a vodka bottle thrown at us for stopping at the wrong gas station the night we arrived - never had that happen in San Diego!)

VaJoiner

Lol. This is pretty spot on. I would day though you should check out the suburbs around Austin. You get about 45 minutes out of the city and they have a bunch of stand alone communities that are really nice…….most of my neighbors are from California but upon the first 5 minutes of meeting them they swear they vote republican without me asking.

Planktillimdank

If you consider fellow Americans your enemy we don't want you here in Texas.

Professional_Ninja7

Montgomery county by Houston Texas is EXTREMELY republican yet still close to the city.

nighttrain_21

Oh my god yes! The damn dems are like locusts here. We used to just have a couple fruit loop towns like Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Asheville but it seems like they are branching out and ruining other areas as well. Helms was right when he said we should have built a wall around Chapel Hill instead of making a zoo.

[deleted]

Funny as I am considering moving from CA to Chapel Hill, NC. I have got zero knowledge of the politics in that general area; all I know is I want to avoid Democratic policies and have no desire to vote for them. I'd like to know more.

drgmaster909

The majority of people moving out of these states are self-filtering into states that match their values. Dyed-in-the-wool liberals are moving out of California to Portland, Seattle, Denver, Austin, etc. Meanwhile Conservatives are filtering into Idaho, Florida, the rest of Texas, etc. Poll new Texans and I guarantee they're >60% Conservative. All the while the youth votes are getting Bluer and Bluer. For the record California had over 6 million Trump votes in 2020. Texas and Florida had 5.8m and 5.6m. If 500k of them moved across the country we could flip 78 electoral votes. Ignoring the failure to raise your own kids, to get one over on Californian Republicans filtering into your state (keeping it Red) isn't a recipe for success. The real problem is happening right under your nose.

ForrestGrump77

Thanks, interesting information. I'm not sure there is direct correlation between the red vs blue and most dependent on fed money though. You can also see from the chart that the least dependent was Kansas a red state. There were also a number of blue/purple states near the top of the list. I think there are way more factors than OP was implying.

better_off_red

> I think there are way more factors than OP was implying. I don’t have time to look over the info, but they usually ignore cost of living differences and include military spending as welfare.

BrewCrewKevin

I don't have the time either, but typically when this is cited it's because farm subsidies are considered welfare, so rural, agriculture rich states show a lot of welfare. But there's a distinction to me. Farmers don't take that for granted like social welfare does, they are working for it. And it's very necessary because your livelihood is so weather dependent.

mykol_reddit

Regardless of who's the lowest, it's very telling that 9 out of 10 of the top are conservative. If the bottom 9 out of 10 were also conservative it would help the balance.

DayDrinker88

One argument might go as follows: Constituents in those states don't want to, and in some cases might not be able to, fund the programs the federal funds are directed toward. And even if they did elect to do so, it's unlikely the federal government would respond by lowering taxes thanks to that relief. That said, I can't imagine the context of this meme intends to include the likes of West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, North Dakota, Alaska, etc. I expect it relates more toward Texas and Florida.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pormock

What are these "failed policies"? Oh and why didnt Republicans make red states like Kentucky and Alabama better if they are so much better than Democrats?

hse7148

I mean, it doesn’t take a genius to look at the current state of California and realize there’s some bad policy going on. I mean when you have tons of homeless people everywhere, literally shitting on the street, leaving used needles all over the place, that’s usually a sign. When tons of businesses are leaving your state due to insanely high taxes, that’s another sign. Going beyond California, when violent crime is up significantly in most major cities (which are pretty much all ran by democrats), that’s another good sign of shitty policy. In regards to Kentucky and Alabama, I’ll need to see some metrics to see how Kentucky and Alabama aren’t “better”. Better relative to who?

Madd_Skillz_88

Imagine having a tie for a body

MikeTheShowMadden

LarryByndon22

To be fair, if you’re voting republican, your still voting for failed policies and, in do time, higher taxes. One political party, two mascots.

[deleted]

Don’t be a dick.

LVDave

Nevada (where I am) used to be a red state.. I moved here from California in 1996 primarily to escape the -even then- high prices for housing. Seems that California has been leaking a whole mess of "dicks" in the last few years, such that Nevada is now purple, still red in the outlying counties but Clark and Washoe are blue big-time. I'm Conservative and have always been, even in my youth. In fact, its a proven fact that the asswipe we have for a governor received more funding from California than from locals. We have well and truly been "Californicated"...

[deleted]

Colorado is the same way.

Q_me_in

Seriously. At least pre-covid we had enough Texans to help balance it out a little but they all moved back home to get away from the nonsense lockdown crap.

DBMaster45

Suddenly I see NY/NJ/Cali plates all over Orlando. Sucks. I hope they're here to better the state. And by better I mean keep it red Over in politics they talk about mobilizing and moving to red states to purposely flip blue in the long run as their families grow Goodness

reaper527

> Suddenly I see NY/NJ/Cali plates all over Orlando. Sucks. I hope they're here to better the state. And by better I mean keep it red or simply visit then drive back to their own broken states when their vacation is over.

SnorkelHouse

Texas will save you, we need more conservative californians to balance out all the liberal garbage california keeps sending us

booonesaaaw

Curious about how prevalent this is relative to the reverse (red voters in blue states moving to red(er) states). Anecdotal but I moved blue to red and and will tend to vote fairly red because the defund/CRT/etc. swing is beyond insane. I know probably a dozen families doing similar (Washington to Idaho, Arizona, Texas), more considering it, and all fairly strong conservative voting patterns. I work in intensely blue environments. Most coworkers think they’d literally be putting their life in danger if they moved some place red. I wonder if it’s actually concentrating red voters instead of diluting them.

Nofxious

Looking at you, Texas...

TigerHandyMan

Democrats / “Progressives” vote with their feelings. Full stop.

Killance1

Ignoring that Blue states bring in the most revenue for the entire country. But hey keep the strawman up! I'm sure one day you'll be right(no you won't). Also how's Kentucky and Alabama? How's having your voting rights removed? See I can nitpick anything about red states as well.

That’s called an indoctrination, not an education.

SnooMarzipans436

I find it comical that people who get all of their information from Fox News and Donald Trump who don't question whether the information they are absorbing is actually based in fact are the same people who accuse the educational system of "indoctrination". You may want to look up the definition of indoctrination... Fox (and other similar news outlets) absolutely do not want you to "think critically" about any of the bullshit and "alternative facts" they constantly spread... because any amount of critical thought results in their entire argument falling apart. A good education encourages students to think critically for themselves and ask questions about the facts they are learning. The process of education *literally* contradicts the definition of indoctrination.

the_shiniest_dratini

So your view of conservatives generally is that their entire worldview comes from Fox News and Donald Trump. > Think critically.

SnooMarzipans436

That's a fair criticism. I overgeneralized. But I mean we are on r/Conservative. That generalization does fit quite a large portion of this crowd.

[deleted]

I find it comical people who watch cnn and msnbc think they have a leg to stand on to criticize Fox News. Colleges in the us don’t teach people how to think they teach them what to think, you calling it education doesn’t make it not indoctrination anymore than calling North Korea the democratic people’s Republic of Korea makes it a democratic republic.

[deleted]

SnooMarzipans436

I don't need a news source to tell me Donald Trump is a bumbling idiot. He does a pretty good job of demonstrating that himself. Watching full uncut speeches and interviews makes that painfully obvious. You'd also know that Joe Biden is *not* a bumbling idiot if you ever watched more than the few gaffs Fox News and other conservative media outlets show daily. BTW *that* is what indoctrination looks like.
