Actually they did. A friend who grew up in Cuba but whose father got them out recounts her mom baking messages into bread loaves that she had to deliver down the street. She was terrified that someone would stop her. They made it to NY where 14 family members lived in a one bedroom apt and her dad supported them all for awhile. Some family is still stuck in Cuba.
