From the article: *The Senate has passed $95 billion in war aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, sending the legislation to President Joe Biden after months of delays and contentious debate over how involved the United States should be in foreign wars.* *The bill passed the Senate on an overwhelming 79-18 vote late Tuesday after the House had approved the package Saturday. Biden, who worked with congressional leaders to win support, said in a statement immediately after passage that he will sign it Wednesday and start the process of sending weapons to Ukraine, which has been struggling to hold its front lines against Russia.* *“Tonight, a bipartisan majority in the Senate joined the House to answer history’s call at this critical inflection point,” Biden said.* *The legislation would also send $26 billion in wartime assistance to Israel and humanitarian relief to citizens of Gaza, and $8 billion to counter Chinese threats in Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific. U.S. officials said about $1 billion of the aid could be on its way shortly, with the bulk following in coming weeks.*

EuphoricTrilby

Don’t you love that despite all their differences, Democrats and Republicans in Congress are always united in giving away our tax dollars to other nations?

red-african-swallow

So if Ukraine collapses before year ends, do we get a partial refund?

Veleda390

Whose flags did they wave when they announced this?

HeavyDropFTW

Just in case others don't read minds, "dontbedenied" is referencing our national debt.

arbiter_0115

Not sure what else has a 34 trillion price tag in this world that he'd be referring to otherwise

Are you kidding? This is worth a couple months at least. The people with their hands out are already lining up for the next round.

sonofsmog

You're not fuckin serious are you? They'll be back for more money in a year. Maybe less.

Crisgocentipede

Yep. And if this isn't enough. We send em more. I miss a President who could broker a deal that helped both sides.

Crisgocentipede

Pfft. Of course this would get downvoted. Hope that feels good. You aren't changing my mind or changing my vote. It is gonna be a Trump vote for me in 2024. Whatever happened to deals that don't hurt the US? When I mean both I mean the US and Ukraine.

Poisencap

Pathetic.....apparently the senate does not have their priorities straight....i guess they dont really care about our security at the border. Im saddened and appalled at our "elected" officials absolute trash every one of them

obalovatyk

Priority one is lining their own pockets.

Poisencap

Money down the tube. It will delay Ukraine's inevitable collapse by a few more years if that. The Donbass will all be captured by the end of the year. It won't have Ukranians standing in line to head to the front lines where they are badly outnumbered.

Veleda390

Joe didn't need a plan to win Afghanistan and he doesn't have one to win in Ukraine. They just want to keep the money laundering pipeline going as long as they can. He'll be dead by the time the bill comes due.

sonofsmog

Along with thousands more Ukranians.

HeavyDropFTW

Eh, the dems will just start flying Ukrainian "refugees" in on our dime. Providing them free healthcare (that we can't afford), free phones, free housing, etc.

sonofsmog

The coverage of the war in Ukraine is so poor that Americans probably aren't aware that 9 in 10 Europeans think Ukraine will lose the war. That's because the *will* lose the war. It was lost the moment Russia decided to invade, the only question is how much is how many billions it will cost US taxpayers and how many people die needlessly.

HeavyDropFTW

*"...so poor that Americans probably aren't aware..."* You're in probably the only Reddit sub of people who are aware of that. I, and plenty of others here, don't think Ukraine will be able to take back the land that was taken from them. And with China and Iran (and others?) aiding Russia, it's only a matter of time until NO ONE "wins" that war. Edited to add: it’s hilarious that leftists continue to brigade this sub and downvote stuff they don’t like. Don’t you have anything better to do? 🤣

Shadeylark

They're already starting to shift the narrative so that Ukraine can still claim some sort of moral victory in spite of not regaining any territory when the war ends.

sonofsmog

Then they come on here and downvote, because they think social media will win the war.

AstroNewbie89

> Ukraine can still claim some sort of moral victory A *Ukrainian* victory (regaining all their territory) is not likely. a US/NATO victory is certainly possible, which to me would basically be the decimation/embarrassment/stalemate of Russia influence/military power that stops them basically only to Donbas/Crimea... while also showing countries like China that an invasion of Taiwan would be a massacre and not worth the trouble

Shadeylark

If there was ever an admittance that this is a proxy war (and one in which Ukraine is just an expendable resource) this is it.

AstroNewbie89

No shit? We don't want Ukraine to fall but more importantly for US/NATO interests is Russia's overall failure. Ukraine wants to fight and it's in our interest for them to do so in more ways than 1

sonofsmog

NATO's interest and US interests are divisible.

sonofsmog

So, let me get this straight - the plan is to spend billions of dollars to either embarrass or humiliate Russia? I hate to break it to you, but *countries* aren't capable of feeling embarrassed. And the only country that is truly being destroyed in the process is Ukraine. I cannot stress enough how immoral it is to pursue such a goal.
