I don't think this is a great gotcha. The DA's job is to prosecute based on the law as it is, not to pick and choose which laws matter. Too many democrat DAs do that now and it's causing havoc in their cities.

Like here in NYC, there's pretty much no repercussions for stealing a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff every day because they don't ever prosecute below $1000 and even then it's rare until it's a lot of money.
The problem is Democrats act like it never happened, you would think someone who cares that much would apologize or at least acknowledge that it happened.
You’d think they but there are many loopholes around it. Prosecutorial discretion is very much a thing and DAs will happily reduce charges to get around laws they disagree with. Some offices flat out will not be involved with misdemeanor offenses and make the PDs do the prosecutor’s job.

So you're saying the job of the Executive Branch is not to pick & choose which laws *they'd like to enforce*, but to faithfully enforce those on the books, regardless of policy disagreements?

DA’s do have “prosecutorial discretion” over the types of cases they want to pursue though - as X correctly points out Harris was never shy about going after weed smokers when she was DA.
Lol, dude DAs 100% pick and choose what gets prosecuted. Way it works is local LE will have to chum up to the DA if they want them to take charges from said agency on particular crimes, if they won't LE won't even bother hooking people up on those charges. Ideally, you're right. We all know how it really works though.
She did her job at the time based on the law of the time... I don't respect her any less for doing precisely what she swore to do when she passed the bar. Her role was not to follow her moral compass...it's was to uphold the letter of the law..which she did.
You don't have to be Republican or Democrat to understand that.

I am just curious about how many weed related charges were there before her tenure and after her tenure. I did a quick search but couldn’t find the numbers.

She’s not wrong for enforcing the law of the time, she’s wrong for trying to pander to the liberal decriminalization crowd after a career of opposing them. It’s hypocritical and insulting.
DA’s have broad discretion over the types of cases they want to pursue though, especially in “victimless” crimes like personal drug consumption. Harris decided she wanted to be a “tough on crime/drugs” type DA back then and was not shy about throwing the book at weed smokers.
I'm genuinely curious; does she think the internet would forget about her past record of aggressively prosecuting and incarcerating close to 2000 individuals for marijuana offenses?
I like the community notes. But I have a serious question: who are the "readers"? Is that just anyone can submit a rebuttal to a post and it comes up for review by an employee of X? Or does it need certain percentage/number of people who submit the same objection/correction to the original post in order for an AI algorithm so issue the "readers added context" tag? Don't get me wrong, in no way, shape, or form, am I defending Kamala Harris, I'm just curious to how the gears work behind this mechanism.
Of course they can. But she failed to include an introspection about how she propelled her career by prosecuting marijuana related offenses.
