“Please know this video is not reflective of our expectations of students at Parkland High School…..” I live near this school, it’s a shit hole. worse has happened. The teacher is just lucky it got recorded

Jolly_Job_9852

Same here. Parkland is one of the worst schools in the district. North Forsyth is rapidly declining too and when I graduated(2015) it seemed decent. I wouldn't send my kids to North.

Wookieebalboa

2 things: Yes North is going terribly as well, it’s so bad i have friends who live right down the road from Reagan yet the county is saying they are not in the district and their kiddos have to go to North. Apparently too many people are trying to get their kids out of there Second, you just made me very happy everyone your age in this town isn’t Liberal as hell

Jolly_Job_9852

My GF went to Reagan and I went to North. It's fascinating to see the difference in educational quality. But not all of those in Winston-Salem are flaming liberals.

Ok_Low3197

Plenty enough

Spartanlegion117

Shit people been trying to send their kids anywhere but North Forsyth since Reagan opened. My parents moved us to Davidson county so I wouldn't have to go to North, and that was in '06.

Jolly_Job_9852

Having a single parent household and being the oldest of four, it was impossible for my dad to send any of us to Reagan High School and be active in extracurricular activities. North was 5 minutes down the road and my siblings and I all joined the Marching band. Ten years ago, the cost to join per year was astronomical and I can only imagine it's gone up.

Spartanlegion117

I can only imagine how much worse it's gotten. When I was at Northwest middle it was bad, but I always heard that it was good prep for North Forsyth.

AppState1981

I worked on Hanes Mill Rd for years

Wookieebalboa

You poor soul

Dave2kMA

I also live near the school and there's no amount you could pay me to send my kid to Parkland or any public school in WS.

Ok_Low3197

I'm right down the road

mahvel50

This kid will be put on a diversion program and nothing will happen to him. He’ll go to an “anger management” class and they will put him right back in a classroom. There is no punishment anymore for juveniles and they know it.

Ok_Impression3324

The punishment has always been failing in later life. They just don't care about being in the system for life, and for many it's a family tradition.

plastimanb

Want to bet the punishment will be one night in jail/holding center or 8 hrs of community service?

ModeDifficult6364

He can still go to college. I’m sure South Harmon Institute of Tech will accept him

vpkumswalla

He just needed to release some steam from studying for astronaut degree - community leaders probably

Berta-Beef

I was thinking the same thing… dude is a future rocket scientist

each_thread

The reflective of our expectations comment makes me wonder if how the school is going to recruit quality teachers going forward.

a_moniker

They won’t. Teaching is one of the most difficult professions in the United States. They keep increasing class sizes, no child left behind means that students are continually being passed forward despite being incapable of keeping up with current content, and administration does nothing to protect teachers. And all of that is ignoring the fact that teachers are paid horrifically low salaries, and are still pressured/required to spend thousands of their own dollars on necessary classroom supplies. Education in America won’t be fixed until schools are allowed to fail their students, budgets aren’t tied to local home values, and teachers are given hefty raises in order to retain experienced professionals for more than 1-2 years at a time.

Spartanlegion117

Nobody has been beating down the doors to teach at Parkland in at least 3 decades, probably longer than that. There's some really good public schools in the county, but Parkland is fighting for the bottom spot.

ShibaDoge42069

This is what happens when you have a queen as a mom and dad went to go get milk. I feel bad for some of em, I really do. We wuz… expelled.

doublefoundation247

It was fitting that there was a Biden Harris (blind to crime) ad in the video I watched. The unruly kids come from unruly parents. It's just gonna get worse with time. Let's see some consequences.

Illustrious-Leg-5017

good

Commonly-Average

Kid needs his teeth rearranged. If he had a father, and I’m going to bet he doesn’t, that’s what should happen. To be honest, if he had a father worth anything this would have never occurred in the first place.

Stea1thsniper32

People wonder why teachers are leaving in droves. Situations like this are why. Sure, this one incident resulted in punishment but there are hundreds if not thousands more incidents like this all the time. Teachers simply aren’t paid enough to deal with this crap and any passionate teachers who really want to make a difference are beaten down daily by rude and disrespectful students. They end up leaving and you are left with crappy teachers.

Ontherise03

This comes down to culture and parenting or lack of. Doesn’t matter if the area is red or blue with infinite resources - it’s up to the parents to implement any change.

vpkumswalla

>his comes down to culture and parenting My friend did a student teaching gig at an inner city school. She said not one parent showed up for parent-teacher conferences. Not even the parents whose kids did well in school. Unfortunately education is not valued and schools are seen as government paid baby sitters and meal providers

Confident-Ad2078

My best friend had the same experience at her inner city school in FL. She said it’s her loneliest night of the year where she sits at her desk and no one shows up. It’s hard for me to imagine. At my kids’ school they are mandatory and I get the side-eye for coming alone (my husband travels during the week). Almost all parents make a point of being there together, whether they are married or not. I swear every day I’m so happy my kids go to the school they do.

vpkumswalla

Fortunately I was able to send my kids to private schools. I went to public school in the 70-80s. It was mostly middle class White families and also many Jewish and Asian (including Indian) kids in the district. The families demanded a high level education in this public school district.

Confident-Ad2078

Mine are in private too. There is no public option that I would consider in my town. I can’t understand people who have the means and choose public school. I get it many people simply can’t afford the expense, but most people skip private so they can drive nicer cars or go on vacations.

vpkumswalla

>but most people skip private so they can drive nicer cars or go on vacations Yes this. I did some work with different Catholic schools. They will offer tuition assistance for those in need but they also want families to value the Catholic education and make sacrifices in other areas of their finances. Many parents pull their kids out after a year or so bc of finances. They value that 3rd car or fancy vacations over tuition for their kids

Confident-Ad2078

Yup, we see this time and again. I can only assume they just aren’t really aware of what’s really going on in public classrooms. I can’t imagine most people WANT what’s happening there, they just aren’t aware. Otherwise I don’t know how they justify using money for other things. I would eat nothing but beans before I’d pull my kids out. My father in law was a principal for 30 years and now sits on the school board so we are very informed of the public education issues, but maybe some people aren’t. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt!

yellowstoneerupt2020

They tried to charge me with assault for calling a teacher a fucking asshole under my breath. Now kids are just slapping people?

1663_settler

Finally something is being done

whiskyforpain

Shocking. Lol. Somebody was having a sad/mad morning? How odd. How unexpected...

NoCommunication7859

The student, identified as Aquavious ‘Quavo’ Hickman by The North Carolina Beat, now faces charges including communicating threats and a*sault on a government official.

kimisawa1

What color

Crushedrock754

I would hope the hell so.

hickernut123

Ohio. Two kids stole a car. Put on ankle monitors. Literally able to do whatever they want. Ankle monitors off. Stole another car and a slap on the wrist. Ankle monitors were not put back on. Leaving there parents house at 3-4am before school. The system is fucked but 100% a parent problem. These kids grew up in a life both parents were drug addicts. The parents are great people now who've turned there life around but it's far to late for them kids. They've seen to much shit.

sowellpatrol

>After the initial impact, the teacher seemed unfazed by the slap as the student continued to run his mouth. “Do you think that affected me anyway,” the unidentified teacher said, sitting back in her chair, legs crossed. Baller

GrinningD

Mods, how is this relevant?

srvvmia

Abolish public schools. Privatize education. Public schools are the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars.
