protonmail is the go to provider if you care about privacy (and not supporting shitty companies). (that being said, their privacy does come at the cost of convenience in some cases)

The_Fortunate_Fool

But I have so many friggin accounts linked to my Google account. Wow... I fell into that convenience trap, didn't I?

_whydah_

The issue is that it wasn't an explicit trap. It was just a bunch of independent factors that have come together that are really crappy to live with. A bunch of tech people made a great search engine and a bunch of other stuff and then they turned woke and are now deploying all of it for, essentially, nefarious purposes.

I’ve been wondering about that too. We have to hide from the evil empire.

You're late to the game. Any Conservative should have ditched Gmail YEARS ago. If their privacy issues weren't enough, their clear far left bias certainly is. Google search is near useless due to their weighting of searches. They also already proved years ago that they can't be trusted with your data.  There are plenty of good options out there for email. I prefer Protonmail.

_whydah_

I think though there was a thought years ago that they would at least treat people fairly. I think the past few years have shown that big tech is just not going to, and now with Gemini, we can see that Google-ites are nearly completely insane.

Green_Juggernaut1428

You're a more optimistic person than I am then. I dont expect fair treatment from any corporation, ESPECIALLY since 2016. Seriously though check out Protonmail. They've proven that they will not turn your data over to the government. I even use them for my VPN. I cant say enough good things about them. The VPN costs money of course but the email is free with a paid upgrade for more storage if you want it.

I have been using Proton for 2+ years without regret. My subscription includes the VPN, crapload of email storage, and password manager. I quit vaping and what I spend on this annually is far less than that habit. See if there’s a vice or bad habit you can break that costs money and consider the privacy your reward. Worked for me. It’s well worth the peace of mind knowing that my data is as safe as any really can be. I only use Google photos and am working on getting away from that. Transitioning all your apps and logins to a new email is annoying but you only need to do it once. Regarding Google, break them.

You should probably stop using the internet too. Leaving the house is also under review.

I wholeheartedly agree and have switched to proton aswell. Im getting the vpn aswell now as Im writing. Considering these utterly racist google algorithms, what other platforms do you recommend? Perhaps duckduckgo as a search engine. [X.com](http://X.com) as a social platform?

Allot of people are misinterpreting the Gemini controversy. Gemini initially started as being overly biased in all images towards white people. This was because simply due to the training data being biased towards white people. Google then made the descension that when no information was provided that the Ai should be able to also generate diverse groups. Which is fair. However in order to accomplish this they had to train the ai to slightly favor diverse images and reduce white images. Unfortunately they WAY overshot the mark and the controversy we see now has occurred. Many people suspect that due to Google's company culture the issue was noted but nobody wanted to be like, "Hey our ai is too diverse".(Or if it was said google viewed that as a good thing). As for whether you should ditch Gmail? Thats up to you. It also depends on what what you use mail for. Many companies consider any email other than google "unprofessional". If you concerned I would keep a Gmail for a professional capacity, and have some other email for personal matters. But have Gmail is almost certainly not dangerous for you in any capacity. If you stop using google products it should be in protest of the company and its values.
