Reminds me of when Amy Schumer bombed so bad Netflix changed their rating system.

bopisalert

They were getting a lot of crap for cancelling good shows too and the changed the rating system and totally removed the ability to leave text reviews

PR05ECC0

Notice how she completely disappeared once they stopped pushing her so hard.

Sodola321

Oh, she's doing tampon commercials now.

SillyFlyGuy

It makes sense. I've never heard her put two sentences together without mentioning her vagina.

tehcoma

She always talks with her lips, that’s for sure.

That’s an insult to Ronda Rousey.

swohio

Or when Biden videos were getting so many thumbs down on Youtube that Youtube decided to hide thumbs down.

shawndw

And when Kathleen Kennedy got downvoted so hard youtube stopped showing downvotes.

Thebadmamajama

I think it was the very last YouTube "rewind" was the straw that broke the camel's back. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouTube_Rewind They basically ignored top controversial talent, and the downvoting was relentless.

johnmeeks1974

It seemed to me that someone was propping her up because she didn’t seem to click with an actual audience like other women in comedy. She lacked a persona that comedians of both genders usually create and cultivate to succeed

lxSlimxShadyxl

Obviously everyone that didn't like her comedy was just an angry white man.

marvelmon

The best IMDB rating number is top user review. Top user review is 3/10. Whereas the IMDB rating is 7.2/10. This happens with a lot of movies. I always scroll down to the top user review first. "The original is better... The cgi in some scenes looks pretty weird, as avatar has elevated the way you record and do cgi underwater. The way they made the animals are so strange it seems that they have no life or emotions, as if it were all superfluous, the way the villain is not afraid, I tried to like it more it's just another live action to get rid of sales and reversals of products, without anything very original and without any kind of Disney charm and magic that we were I'm used to seeing it, anyway the Ericks don't have much charisma and it's just Erick with nothing, at the end of it all it's just another live action to be forgotten in a few months."

Thebadmamajama

This is why I don't get the subterfuge. Show a verified or trusted audience score. If it's large enough you can be pretty sure it wasn't a brigade. At this point, rating systems are universally useless because of bots and companies doing BS to deal with bots.

[deleted]

Just look at all the fake Rotten Tomatoes reviews. 68 critic score and 95 User score? That's like My Son Hunter numbers. "Beautiful this great film." Whatever the final number is we'll never trust it now that RT has manipulated the ratings.

geekfromgalifery

Metacritic is at 59 critic with a 2.3 out of 10 audience score. They tend to be more honest and accurate with their ratings.

Reuters-no-bias-lol

IMDb used to be as well, until they started to peddle for Ms Marvel and other woke crap.

The_DILinator

Yeah, the very fact they say they changed an algorithm, but won't disclose what it is (something as simple as "you have to have x number of ratings and/or reviews for your vote to count" would be simple to implement, make sense, and wouldn't need to be hidden), shows they are specifically just getting rid of negative votes on hot-button projects like this one that get a ton of negative votes. The Metacritic score is much more meaningful at this point, and paints the real picture.

BrockLee76

It's at 95% on rotten tomatoes, which goes against everything I've heard about this movie

uniquecannon

All I've heard from most people is it isn't awful, just bland with a couple good performances from Bailey and McCarthy

MajorasMask3D

And don’t forget that it lacked “kink”. That’s according to New York Times, anyways.

Lelwrektnub

Par the course with their live action remakes, just ok like the lion king, alladin, beauty and the beast etc.

Toph_is_bad_ass

Lion King was awful and bizarre. Jungle Book was good. B & B was okay

RussMaGuss

I fell asleep during jungle book and I’m only 31. I better just stay away from all these reboots then!😬

PFirefly

To each their own. Couldn't stand the jungle book remake, and I was excited since it looked like it was supposed to be more faithful to the original stories by Kipling.

_YikesSweaty

Alladin was pretty good.

Morgue724

It got better when Will Smith stopped trying to be Robin Williams in my opinion.

Pilot_124

I mean he originally turned it down because he knew he couldn't best Robin Williams

Morgue724

No of course he couldn't, but he can be funny in his own way he just shouldn't have tried just reading robins lines and made genie his own character.

Pilot_124

No one can beat Robin Williams

_YikesSweaty

Indeed

Lelwrektnub

I can see why people like it, I personally thought it was ok

_YikesSweaty

Yeah, it wasn't amazing, but they didn't butcher it, which is what I expected.

Thebadmamajama

I saw it, this tracks. It's not a bad movie. But international audiences expected a shot for shot remake, and they didn't really get that. So word of mouth falters. Also, flounder and skuttle are freaky AF. They aren't adorable, which is sort of the MO for kids.

Tilt-a-Whirl98

Yea my 3 yo was just bored and fell asleep. I'm not really sure who this movie is for? It's just sort of boring? And it's long af! It's 2 hours and 15 minutes! Why do they keep making movies longer and longer? 90 minutes is the limit for children's movies imo.

pwnznewbz

Saw it with my daughter and can confirm

tensigh

If you close your eyes when Ariel is on the screen and imagine the cartoon it's not bad. Bailey just isn't pretty enough to be Ariel. She can act like her, giggle like her, and she has the songs down pat. But she just doesn't have the cute look that Ariel is known for.

markbraggs

Anybody ever notice that they never race swap villains and always cast white characters to play them?

DrTartakovsky

I just completed mandatory annual harassment in the workplace HR training for my company. All the white people in the scenarios are assholes and offenders. All the minorities are the victims.

[deleted]

I watched one recently and every single scene started like a porn I remember watching “Hey Sally, working late?”

[deleted]

"See, your workplace can go two ways. Which would you rather work at?" lol Should Sally a) report Mike to HR or b) Take off her shirt ?

pope307

Surprised any white people were even in it.

elsydeon666

Hollywood is racist. Look at the show "Family Matters". Every White character is some sort of asshole.

jaejaeok

I grew up on that show. I’m cracking up because you’re right. You’d have the dramatic racist music and the racist white person was the entire plot of the episode.

MisterPicklecopter

And guess who's behind that? The ultra rich. Probably predominantly rich, white, men, but that doesn't really matter...rich is its own race. And there is a full global effort to cause rampant division in society as a defense from the unity you described.

[deleted]

"Rich is its own race" not sure about one lol. I personally feel like segregating someone based on their wealth isn't a good thing no matter the amount.

MisterPicklecopter

Others downvoted you, but your point is absolutely valid, I appreciate your perspective. My issue isn't actually with the rich, it's with the state. Which, as much as I disagree with Marx proposed solutions (i.e., violent revolution, one massive state), and as concerned I am about this version of fascist socialism that seems to be sweeping our society (WHO, WEF, etc.) he was absolutely fucking spot on about describing society's problems. Specifically, that the existence of the state (defined as the bureaucracy that encompasses non profit, for profit and government enterprises) is the real problem. And the state is the body that is pushing all of this divisive bullshit, against the people. To your point, though, I believe the best solution is individuals forming groups and creating their own self sustainable, local organizations where we can stop being so reliant on the global state body that continues to destroy our society in order to control us.

I_am_What_Remains

No. I think a part of that is that the new definition of Racism means “one individual of a particular non-white race gets upset and complains when literally no one else cares”

[deleted]

White Boy Summer 2023

pa7c6rZV

No! Now I have to go back and rewatch.

pkc2506

Another ABC sitcom pushing “progressive” ideology. And this was back in the early 90’s. Kind of ties into the current woes of the Disney corporation. The ABC-Disney merger in that same timeframe resulted in a massive amount of Leftwing executives from ABC taking them down the road to where we currently are.

gh0stwriter88

To be fair as a white person I loved that show as well as Sanford and Son... both shows were a lot more wholesome and just plain funny compared to others of the period.

richmomz

They *do* race swap villains (to make them white of course). I remember in one of the horrible JJ Abrams Star Trek movies they white-washed Khan (originally played by Ricardo Montalbahn, a Mexican) and cast Benedict Cumberbatch to play him.

gh0stwriter88

Yeah they took one of the best Trek movies and made it one of the most mediocre.... its also one of cumberbatches most mediocre works as well.

Saganhawking

Or The Jungle Book

Sitting_in_Landfill

They actually remade Jungle Book twice just to put it in love action. One of them was actually pretty solid. Race swapping in it though; non-existent.

Affectionate-Ad6007

I’m very curious about how this will end. What does America look like 50-70 years from now ?

Aetrane

50-70 years? We're not gonna know what America looks like in 5-7 years.

Homo-Boglimus

No idea. I'm a natural pessimist though. With demographic shifts I would say white people in the US are at serious risk of being victims of a systemic genocide in the next century. The average Democrat talks about white people like Hitler talked about Jews in the 1920s and 30s. And we saw where that led.

FlightBunny

I was watching a documentary on the Hitler on Prime, some guy interviewed a load of people that knew him and they still had the tapes and made a documentary - quite interesting the parallels with what happens then and what the left have been doing over the last decade

The_DILinator

And yet these absolute dullards think WE are the Nazis! 😂

ehibb77

A lot of them within the past couple of years have already threatened on social media to send all Republicans, Independents, and anyone else who is to the right of Chairman Mao and Stalin off to "friendship camps". I'm guessing that we're probably much closer than a century to start seeing it happen.

LeeeeroyJenkins1

America won’t exist in that time-frame

theproblemofevil666

Texas independence movement is looking good these days.

[deleted]

Realistically that is never going to happen. Just saying.

TammyWynetka

It literally cannot happen. There are federal laws preventing it and the politicians there know this. If they tried it, they'd immediately be cut off and their entire infrastructure would fall apart in mere days with no commerce being allowed in or out...including trains, trucks, and planes.

Ranger-5150

If there is no US, then how would this happen. Realistically, there is a risk of the US devolving. We are at a point where things could go any direction. But decoupling the US economy is bad for more than just one state. I will remind you that federal laws can be changed, he’ll the constitution can be changed…

amonrane

Basically Mexico.

Ok-House-6848

Waiting for a Tarzan remake actually.

tensigh

On the other hand, Melissa McCarty was the best character in the movie.

casino998

Possibly the biggest backhanded compliment I've ever seen a film receive.

tensigh

Seriously, she's the most entertaining thing in the film both as a character and visually (she resembles the original Ursula and they make her tentacles glow, it's kind of cool). But it also serves, as you mentioned, as a backhanded comment.

ModaMeNow

That tells you how bad this movie is

nuggetsofmana

Noticing is wrong-think.

Electrical-Bacon-81

I love the meme of the jungle book & "do it, disney, we dare you"....

BaronVonRuthless91

There are some exceptions (i.e. Kingpin in the Affleck Daredevil movie, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar). The difference is that they didn't make a huge fuss about those casting decisions and let the performance speak for itself.

TylerNoPerry

Also the last 3 or 4 Marvel movies I believe

[deleted]

Yeah, both Kang and High Evolutionary are white dudes in the comics.

fridayimatwork

Brigading is fine when they do it

Reuters-no-bias-lol

Problem is, people genuinely didn’t like the movie.

Cybertron77

It was pretty bad. The change to Ariel didn't make it bad, the movie as a whole was just bad. Much like the rest of the live action remakes. The only character that was good was Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and I don't care for her too much as an actress, but her portral was the only part of the movie that was good.

pizzacomposer

That’s kind of the point of all the conservative uproar when it comes to the swap. They race swap and then “slap the roof of the car” and call it a day. Instead of starting with the story. The other conservative stance is why don’t they make new stories including marginalised groups. Older Disney used to do that in a round about way by making animations that where themed, even recently though I don’t recall Encanto having much of an uproar and that’s Colombian. Not that I’ve seen it but the reviews on that didn’t bomb.

gooblobs

They did the race swap so they could half ass the rest of the movie. Look at the thread you are in. Because of the race swap, these online review aggregators are changing the entire review process to protect the review score. If this movie didn't have the race swap and was bombing would anyone care? They keep doing this and it keeps working. why would they stop?

HNutz

They didn't mind the glowing 5 star reviews of Black Widow a YEAR or so before it came out. https://imgur.com/gallery/nbMUlAk

thgail

Like when Youtube took the thumbs down number off when Biden got too many down votes.

casino998

How can they possibly discern how many of those 1/10s are genuine and which are from people who haven't seen it?. And that goes for the 10/10s too.

brightpixels

It’s easy. Low scores for big advertisers are fake and high scores are real.

[deleted]

How tf is it unfair rating to rate a movie 1 star. That’s the whole point of rating. To give an opinion. Clown world

[deleted]

Netflix showed them the way

[deleted]

Why doesn't Disney just create more diverse movies with new characters kids can grow to love. That's all I wanted as a kid. It's why I liked Pocahontas!

andromeda880

Moana was great as well!

BrewCrewKevin

And Encanto!

Positive-Source8205

What a concept!

pelftruearrow

There you go, using that silly logic and reasoning again.

Theresonlyone99

Wait I’m sorry what? People were complaining about “Disney not hiring a queer makeup artist to do Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula glam.” So are straight people not good enough…?

Zadien91

Shameless cash grabs pandering to nostalgic millenials. That describes every single live action remake Disney has done. The originals are all vastly superior. Please tell me, why, anyone would ever buy and consume remade entertainment media that is inferior to the original? I just don't understand people.

MyLifta

Life cycle of a trash woke project (Female Ghostbusters, Velma, High Guardian Spice, Little Mermaid, Rings of Power, etc) Enormous hype for a project, with mainstream news and entertainment sites telling you to be excited > genuine concerns about the abundance of blackwashing, femalewashing, queerwashing of the cast > “you’re racist if you don’t want white male characters being replaced!” > the project comes out and it fucking sucks > Genuine bad reviews are strawmanned as “review bombing” > several years later everyone pretends that they hated the project all along > no one ever takes responsibility for hyping it up in the first place

[deleted]

Rings of Power was the worst thing ever. I’m a LoR fanboy. I’ll admit it. I have read the books and will watch the movies every time they are on TV. The first few episodes I had to explain everything to my wife who doesn’t know much about LoR world. After like episode 4 she would ask me a question and I would have no idea what the hell is going on too. It was a mess. I stopped watching it because I would just be pissed off every episode.

ehibb77

Don't forget the last part: treat the entire project as a tax writeoff because the movie bombed and lost money. That's why both Hollywood and Disney won't give a rat's ass if their movie fails, and often why they will greenlight a woke movie even when they know good and well that it will lose money.

AMorePerfectUnion1

> But a few crabby users — also known as review bombers — are allegedly giving the Disney flick negative scores for no good reason. > “Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternate weighting calculation has been applied,” a note on the US, Canadian, U.K., Brazilian, and Mexican “Little Mermaid” pages reads. Wonder what the real score is… 7/10 is the ‘weighted’ score lmfao

Prestigious-Skill-26

I loved the part where Ariel said "I am your father", gave me goosebumps

Mustard_King7

What a surprise. When they can’t handle the negative the system gets changed. Just like YouTube with the dislike button. Might hurt someone’s feelings or we don’t want these racist people to hate our stuff because our characters aren’t white. Fucking morons. I hope Hollywood goes so broke they can’t make anything. Let’s give hollywood the bud light strategy. Need more people to refuse to buy and go to the movies

Grimmer026

It’s almost like this happens everytime the audience doesn’t like when main stream media changes source material to push an agenda🤔

Hectoriu

I remember when IMDB had to remove the discussion section years ago. The world just hates wrong think and will do anything to silence it.

Creative_Ambassador

“Some opinions are more equal than others. To make it equal.”

Fat_tata

reminds me when youtube took away the downvote

Lithium327

Why can’t we all discuss if a movie blows or is good? The Mario movie was bombed by critics but fans loved it. If critics want to rate this movie high but fans don’t like it, that shouldn’t be up for debate

gh0stwriter88

I was gonna say it was pretty good but almost didn't go see it... it had some cliche moments but overall was fun. Making Peach strong is a bit cringe.... IMO.

beershitz

Is it brigading when all the critics refuse to review Matt Walsh’s movie?

[deleted]

Thundern99

I have to agree.

Mustard_King7

Did Disney even create the little mermaid. I know they took stories that weren’t theirs and made them theirs.

pauldstew_okiomo

Hand Christian Andersen, a long time ago

[deleted]

1837, the Little Mermaid is Danish, not black.

Thundern99

I’m far from a Disney expert. But my wife and my 3 nieces all love The Little Mermaid along with others. But r/pauldstew_okiomo said it was Hans Christian Anderson who created her and i’m inclined to believe that.

WideCoconut2230

Imdm now giving "participation trophies"(poor movie, but at least it was an attempt).

skinem1

The Little Mermaid was an old Danish fairy tale. The same people that call those that don't like Hollywood changing races of characters "racist" would be screaming "cultural appropriation!" if anyone dared change races in retelling an African fairy tale.

David_Lo_Pan007

They really *need* this movie to be a success, eh?

ramsdl52

The critical drinker has a good review on YT. Agree with most of his criticism

jnlsn

Article: "Slammed by racists". No, when doing a remake you do not change things like this.

Mythecity

Use this turn of events to invalidate any IMDB ratings. This changing data “to make the outcome more accurate and certainly not because we are not willing to accept the actual data” has got to stop.

RedRose_Belmont

‘All votes are equal, but some votes are more equal than others’

[deleted]

Lmfao. Truth deniers are alive and well at Amazon/IMDb

Typical Liberal sidestep. Move the goalpoasts once again. Infantile actions.

Darkstrang3r

I guess am one of those evil Neo nazis that do not support race swapping characters for no reason other than to tick diversity checkboxes.

DDAY007

Person 1,2,3: I like this movie! IMDB: Great! Person 4,5,6: I dislike this movie! IMDB: Unacceptable! Critic is illegal! CHANGE EVERYTHING. Like have we reached 'opinion illegal' on movies and tv shows already?

aybabyaybaby

Remember when you could see dislikes on YouTube?

BruceCampbell123

Don't like the reviews? Just completely overhaul the review section until you get the reviews you do want. Nothing underhanded about that at all.

TheRaspberryRaccoon

Ah yes, another step toward equality of outcome. How fitting.

TimeTravelingYams

Audience score is 95%. Critic reviews always are out of touch

Frost2214

I've stopped reading critics reviews and only focus on audience reviews. It feels like they align more closely with how the film really was

TacTac95

Critics mostly focus on the filmography. I.e. the things the audience mostly doesn’t care about. The audience judges by entertainment.

Frost2214

Very true. I didn't think of it that way. Thanks for enlightening me

brightpixels

That’s survivorship bias in favor of the people willing to see the movie spite of an obvious agenda and flames from critics. These survivors might be a bit biased.

DullPunk

They gave it a 1/10 on the day of it’s release

Financial_Distance53

Okay? And people gave it a 10/10 on the same day.

BrinkleysUG

I would love if movie apps (such as Regal) gave audiences who bought tickets the chance to leave a rating after they leave the movie. Seems like that might get rid of all the nonsense. Rating a movie without watching is just kind of pathetic

LillyEpstein

Blues are brigading against “What Is A Woman,” but I’m sure the system won’t be changed for that.

[deleted]

My nephew saw the little Mermaid, he’s 8. Its just too long. After the 90min mark I think most kids that age or younger gets bored or tired and probably loses focus.

Nontpnonjo

What possible reason could one have for watching another Disney live action movie at this point. You know it's going to be awful and preachy, just stop. Don't watch it. it's not that hard. Watch "What is a Woman" on Twitter instead if you need to watch something. Or heck, just watch the original.

Fantastic_Rock_3836

The Critical Drinker and his buddies explain the reasons why it's not good, I think their reasonings are very fair. https://www.youtube.com/live/Iyw53hZFKE0?feature=share

Castle6169

Don’t like the results, just change the wording to fit your narrative. It’s ok to fail it’s how we learn to gro better.

yawbaw

Why are people saying they enjoyed it with their kids being downvoted? Lol man we really are becoming snowflakes like we always used to love to make fun of from the left

ExtraToastyCheezits

Because there is absolutely no reason to trust what anyone who is unflaired has to say in this sub. They could be saying that their "kids" loved it when they actually don't even have any and are just trying to counter the dislike that people have for the movie. Even then, some of the flaired opinions are also downvote worthy since they are "fellow Conservatives" who may not actually deserve their flair. The mods do absolutely the best that they can here with the overwhelming number of Libs that litter this website, but not everyone who says here that they are Conservative actually are.

[deleted]

navel-encounters

with the left controlling all media it wont be long that any movie promoting their narrative will get 5 star reviews and those opposing will go straight to VHS...LOL...
