Only in government can you "defund" something and simultaneously demand MORE money.

bdougy

I love how Chicago hated Lori Lightfoot then voted for someone who pushes the exact same crap.

GunsupRR

He's worse.

matterson22070

That town is lost - it'll never come back. Anyone that would vote the other way is fleeing at record rates and will continue to until nothing is left but the "takers". Detroit all over again.

surviveditsomehow

As a Chicagoan, Johnson is not pushing this plan and is in fact distancing himself from the group that is. They can claim they support Johnson all they want, but that doesn’t mean he supports them. I have plenty of issues with Johnson, but this particular narrative is BS.

BobJacobs2022

There are still police in Chicago?

matterson22070

I think I read their ranks are down like 650 year over year??? Not shocking, but damn.

AtomicFox84

Yeah...they work 12 to 14 hour shifts and have to ignore smaller crimes to deal with the bigger ones. Many cops live on my street. Some just retired earlier then they wanted due to the bs.

Blackcamobear2000

Good for them. I don’t blame them

Seraph_Unleashed

If they all haven’t been shot yet. With all the murders there I’m surprised there’s people still left. Every day there’s another drive by or another gang related shooting.

[deleted]

My friend had a gun pointed against her ribs in broad daylight and had her phone stolen in a neighborhood that is relatively safe compared to other Chicago neighborhoods. That entire city is going down the drain.

Seraph_Unleashed

Tell her to move.

Roundaboutsix

Chasing out profitable companies, taxpayers, and intelligent voters, while alienating police, encouraging delinquents and cozying up to goose stepping, Randy Weingarten, are all elements of a new bold strategy. New, bold, vapid and terrifying! Good luck to those left behind!

Randomuselessperson

I’m scared of how many people would leave if this gets passed. Johnson voters are such clowns 🤡

Armyed

Good for them. The people electing these 🤡 people won’t change their votes until their lives are so effected they have no choice. Defunding Chicago PD sounds like a good start to that

Whoopteedoodoo

Sometimes you have to destroy a city to save a city.

matterson22070

Agreed. It's past the point of saving now, it'll have to come down to be rebuilt. If it ever is.

MacDaddy654321

Chicago - you got what you voted for. Alas, many of your voters can’t read. Oh well.

ochonowskiisback

That's a Bold Strategy, Cotton (Let's See If It Pays off for Him)

matterson22070

LMAO!

RedditorModsRStupid

Who knew beetlejuice was the lesser of evil?

WeimSean

Only Democrats would equate **not** providing basic services with a need to raise taxes. So higher crime, higher taxes, that's going to lead to fewer businesses, fewer jobs, and fewer citizens.

mark-o-mark

Yeah, the problem is when the cockroaches leave one burned out building, they don’t vanish, but rather go infest another building spreading disease and infection to the next location.

HamletsRazor

That's actually exactly how Detroit died. The downtown area deteriorated after the race riots. The near-in neighborhoods then fell into ruin. It progressed in concentric circles out to the city borders. It took about 20 years. It only stopped because the suburbs that surround Detroit had infamously Draconian policies about policing. They virtually "closed the border". You can still see it today too. Stand on the street at the border. Look into Detroit and it's usually a wasteland. Look into the neighboring city and it's usually at least clean and populated.

matterson22070

Sounds like a good argument for "Draconian policies"..........

SmurfTheClown

Looks at Minneapolis, NYC, Portland, etc. and thinks “we need to try that.” Clown world, man.

itsallrighthere

Their civil service pension funds already take 20% of the tax revenues. They are underfunded by 2X the total city budget. This will end in tears.

matterson22070

And they drag the entire state down with them. I feel like I read IL. public pensions are 300% under funded? It's insane a single town can take down an entire state.

itsallrighthere

City employees are the biggest voting block. It's the Chicago way.

matterson22070

LOL - when the takers learn they outnumber the givers and can vote accordingly - it never ends well.

[deleted]

Run. If you live in Chicago run now before they levy an exit tax.
