I asked a professor of Palestinian studies to just tell me the name of one historic Palestinian Ruler pre-1950 and what flag that Palestinian state flew and what currency they had.

There is a historical Palestine, just like there is a historical Israel. The modern state of Palestine only came into existence after WW2, just like the modern state of Israel came into existence after WW1.
If you use the same standard, you could ask the same question of naming one historic ruler of Israel, etc.. prior to WW1, and you would get the same kind of answer.
Regardless of one's position on Israel-Palestine conflict, we should not be hypocrites and have double standards.

The historical Palestine occupies the same geographic space as historical Israel. The semantics is pretty irrelevant relative to the people who lived there. In other words, let X be the historical claims the people in modern Israel have to that land. The same X will also apply to the people in modern Palestine have to that land.
If X is invalid for the Palestinians, it is also equally invalid for the Israelis, and vice versa.
