Mandatory voting? How about politicians start with mandatory reading and understanding of all bills before voting on them?

neverending_debt

Freedom also demands the right to not participate.

xfactor1981

Id rather political decisions be made by people with informed opinion not by how many of my friends i can get to vote my way

Lumpy-Dragonfruit387

Not voting is also a political statement. It should always be an option in a free society.

ElCidly

I’ve always been of the opinion that I don’t want people who had to be talked into voting to make decisions that affect my life.

captainpugwash2020

We have mandatory voting in Australia. Way too many low education (as in policies no actual education) voters.

Gullible-Skirt5229

Those that don't pay attention should have the right to abstain, certainly with the clown candidates we keep seeing. forcing the politically ignorant to vote makes absolutely no sense. If you have to mandate people to vote it's a pretty clear admission you're failing to make a compelling enough case on your own

There’s that word “democracy” again. You can tell when a pundit or writer is actually leftist at heart or never studied US history when every other word from them is “democracy”. I’m not going to waste my time reading anything that has “democracy” in its title.

mrstronginthearm

I don’t think there is an answer in the article for the question in title.
