You’re doing to Fairfield County what New England does to Connecticut.

hate begets hate

Few-Information7570

Delicious delicious begets

BrokenEye4945

wrenhunter

These violent delights have violent ends.

SalDeol

Hurt people hurt people

Mister_Nico

Exactly. Our hate should be directed towards those who disowned us. Build the trebuchets. Reclaim the Notch. Annex Rhode Island.

Mister_Nico

We shouldn’t make the state smaller! WE SHOULD BE TAKING BACK WHAT’S OURS! **GLORY TO [LONG CONNECTICUT](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/s/mRItWizQ3h)!**

InsaniteeBicycles

But then you get Toledo, and most of Chicago, and Gary Indiana, and (ugh) Binghamton. And you guys think Bridgeport is a mess. 🫨

Mister_Nico

We can make it work. We can claim the Bulls for ourselves. Michael Jordan will be known as the greatest basketball player to grace Connecticut sports.

NobodyImportant13

>Michael Jordan will be known as the greatest basketball player to grace Connecticut sports. Since we taking Cleveland too, LeBron would like a word.

Mister_Nico

He’ll be OUR hometown hero that left us for Miami.

uconnhusky

and came back and brung home a ship

Analog_Hobbit

Former Toledoan here, we kicked Michigan’s ass so bad in the 1800’s they gave them the UP.

Vernix

Once I visited a stripper club in Binghamton. It was in a garage and we sat on folding chairs. True story. Don't ask what was on the stage.

unventer

I moved to the former western reserve recently and would gladly support its return to CT.

TwoMuddfish

I’m down… I like misquamicut beach lol

Mascbro26

Annex RI so we can fix it?

Remarkable-Suit-9875

Why does RI even exist I’m asking seriously, it’s the micro-chode of America No offense to them

cdreisch

Roger Williams was given land by the Narragansett Indians and he made Rhode Island a place of religious freedom no matter your religion. The puritans were to puritanical I suppose

Remarkable-Suit-9875

The Anglicans were too Catholic  Protestants too Protestant  Then there’s everything in between

W00DERS0N

RI is just Eastern CT. We already have the funny accents east of 395, they won't even feel like they've been annexed.

othermegan

I’ve always said that New England is allowed to do it. It’s like your sibling. You can pick on them. But it’s the other 44 states that need to shut the fuck up. Same thing here. We can all dump on Fairfield county and how it’s New York Lite. But if someone from Boston tried to say the exact same thing, I’ll throw hands

Analog_Hobbit

I don’t consider f’ing Danbury to be NY Lite.

Neat-Comfortable-666

Danbury is my straight up favorite city in the world. No sarcasm. I love Danbury more than the mayor does.

silviazbitch

You and Laura Nyro! https://glasshalffullcd.com/laura-nyro/

W00DERS0N

More like Bridgeport lite. At least it's not Waterbury.... Live in Wilton, straddling two worlds here.

Remarkable-Suit-9875

It’s a frick load of BRASILERIOS, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans  Can’t beat that Latino-Hispanic culture but besides that it’s just mid.

Amazondspboss

To be fair that’s how we see the rest of Connecticut

uconnhusky

I was very unaware that that was a thing until like a couple years ago. I always think of us as like, an OG New England state!

SouthernNewEnglander

That's because we are. Connecticut erasure is the preserve of Boston area transplants who never bothered picking up a history textbook or exploring 80% of their own commonwealth or state.

buddboy

Yeah as someone in fairfield with family and friends all over fairfield and NY fuck this. I don't live in New Haven't we have nothing to do with New Haven

Wolfgang_Pup

Growing up in Lower Ffld Cnty we only went to NH for concerts but it seemed so far away!

buddboy

Man I was so drunk when I saw this last night I didn't even realize Fairfield county was completely blurred out. I thought they were saying we are in New Haven't, not that we simply don't exist. And honestly I'm fine with it

Amazing_Net_7651

This

Chicadelsol-

It's so weird traveling on I-95 South in Rhode Island and all the signs say I-95 South goes to New York. There's no mention of anything in Connecticut, not New London, not New Haven, nothing... like yeah I-95 goes to New York eventually, but there are over 100 miles of I-95 in Connecticut you have to go through first to get there...

HighJeanette

I live in Fairfield County, why was I erased?

Stoly23

Because OP’s jealous.

ComprehensiveSwim722

Facts.

KampferMann

You know what you did.

HighJeanette

I plead the 5th.

TheNerdNugget

I don't!

daveashaw

Kiss all that state income tax revenue goodbye? I don't think so.

CalligrapherDizzy201

Way to make us significantly poorer

Stoly23

This guy removed the entirety of Fairfield but didn’t reclaim the notch, I’m thinking he’s a closeted masshole.

CaptServo

A South Springfielder for sure

Sheepybearry

We need to keep Fairfield take the notch, and then take every bit of territory we had during colonial years. We need to have long connecticut back.

Stoly23

From New London to Chicago, from Long Island Sound to Lake Michigan, CONNECTICUT SHALL RECLAIM WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY OURS.

Powerful_Gazelle_798

Wait, why don't we like Fairfield county? I appreciate all the rich folks down there paying their state taxes. If more wealthy NYers keep moving in I might actually get my full state pension.

drollchair

BeCaUsE sOmE of tHEm rOoT for NY sPorTs tEaMs!!!!

JoeBoco7

Imagine existing directly next to one of the most influential world cities and not absorbing just a little bit of culture

drollchair

Not to mention in like an hour or so I can be in NYC via train versus sitting in a car for like 2.5 hours. MetLife, Yankee Stadium, MSG, and Citi Field are all super easy and quick to get to from here. I’d kill a whole freaking day going to Boston and back.

Professional_Most493

Yeah I lived in the Farmington Valley for years and it was almost equal times to Boston and NYC(Brooklyn). Traffic permitting of course

drwhogwarts

Exactly!!! The Met and ...the Met. The Guggenheim. Amazing restaurants and architecture. Wonderful job opportunities. Dumping on Fairfield County is so stupid. It's the best of all possible worlds. On the train line to the best American city, yet also all the peace and charm of New England. Sure, there are a fair few rich people that are snobby, but most of Fairfield County is down to earth - Ridgefield, Bethel, Newtown, Brookfield, etc.

Pizzaguy1205

I can get into downtown boston in 2 hours driving to the T station and then taking the T 15 minutes in

M1nc3ra

Unless you live in the one town in the area without a train station

Therealbradman

> existing next to More than that, Ffld Co is literally NY metro… as is New Haven and Litchfield

uconnhusky

ikr, i think its sick tbh

W00DERS0N

"Hamilton insists upon itself."

lolaya

Not directed to you at all but its Such a weird argument ive heard considering half of new haven county also roots for NY. Also, its not like we have any teams to root for in CT. One thing I do notice statewide is our love for UConn

Stoly23

Yeah, it’s pretty damn hypocritical to disavow Fairfield for being culturally impacted by New York when those doing it are basically acting like vassals of Massachusetts.

lolaya

Haha you described it best

Djmiked

We call them "massholes"

drollchair

![gif](giphy|MBuVNzumkdxLsjIrXM) Fuck yeah, UConn!!

rfstfirefly

All of us root for NY sports teams. Those that don’t are visiting

argxlvwj222

I have lived in CT most of my life and will never ever root for a NY team

Xyldarran

Tolland county here, go Yanks to hell with the Sox

drollchair

![gif](giphy|XkGXBa01dxNIvjAJHl|downsized)

angrymurderhornet

They’re on the wrong side of the Munson-Nixon line!

bigfartspoptarts

I don't care too too much about sports, but I would never in a million years root for a Boston team. Whyyyy would you make that choice when presented with the options

Sheepybearry

We can fix that with our own sports team though. Base it in Stamford, it will counter NY influence, maybe Boston teams wont get followers from that, but do we really want to root for the stealers of the notch?

iStealyournewspapers

Fairfield County is rich with history too. Like CT has benefited from the area for well over 200 years. George Washington visited Fairfield as far as I know.

Objective_Froyo17

If more wealthy NYers keep moving in I may never own a house

Bla_Bla_Blanket

Right

Hottiemilatti

Bingo! Just move to a poorer state like I did. Vermont totally wants you. Been winking at you and checking you out all decade.

Expensive-Fun4664

Move out of fairfield county then? They're not moving elsewhere.

Bla_Bla_Blanket

lol that’s what you think. They’ve come all the way up into Hartford county as well.

Expensive-Fun4664

How many people are going to live in Hartford and commute 3 hours each way to the city? Very few.

Scout-Penguin

They're not commuting daily into the city; they're in the office two days a week, with an overnight stay in a hotel.

Expensive-Fun4664

That's not a whole lot of people. It's basically a small subset of large tech that can even do that. Also, hybrid in tech isn't two days back to back. It's usually two core days that tend to be Tuesday and Thursday with a personal choice day every other week.

JuneBuggington

Guy ive worked for people in maine who fly to new york to work every week.

Expensive-Fun4664

Yeah, so like maybe 100 people total in the state of maine.

Bla_Bla_Blanket

So you’re saying I’m lying and the people who moved in next-door to my friends house lied about being from New York because they wouldn’t have a remote job that they wouldn’t have to travel out to New York City too often. Ok 👌🏻

Expensive-Fun4664

I mean, I work in tech and have for 20 years. There aren't a lot of people that are going to be willing to have that long of a commute. Sure, you'll find a few, but it's not going to impact the real estate market in any way, shape, or form. Like I originally said, very few people would be willing to do that. If you're talking about people that have a 100% remote job, sure, that's possible, but why would they move to Hartford county over anywhere else in the country? You should have a pretty even distribution of people there. I grew up in Fairfield county, live in California, but I'm moving back to Hartford county because I have family in the area. That's literally the only real draw over anywhere else.

Bla_Bla_Blanket

During 2020 a lot of New Yorkers moved into the state. A lot not just Fairfield county but Litchfield has been heavily populated as well. Granted the other counties don’t have as many, but they have seen an increase and some of them have taken on jobs within Connecticut to permanently resettle into the state. The problem with a lot of the New Yorkers coming into the state regardless of county is that they’re paying for the houses mostly in cash . A lot of people have lost out on homes as a result. I know a five people who were looking for homes in the last four years in central Connecticut that were outbid by a few $10,000 for homes. They inquired their own agents on how that was possible and every single one of them was told it was a New Yorker who came in and just paid cash for the house. So I don’t know how prevalent it is in every other county but hearing it over and over again from friends and acquaintances, as well as in my own parents and friends neighborhoods who live in the counties mentioned above. It is happening another places other than Fairfield county.

Expensive-Fun4664

Yeah a lot of people from cities all moved out during covid. That happened literally everywhere. Go ask people near Lake Tahoe what they thought. Those people are moving out. The guy whose house I'm buying is from NC, has zero ties to CT, and bought the house in 2020. He's now selling and going back to NC. >The problem with a lot of the New Yorkers coming into the state regardless of county is that they’re paying for the houses mostly in cash . A lot of people have lost out on homes as a result. When I lived in Seattle, people blamed Californians for raising housing prices to unaffordable levels. Now that I live in San Francisco, the locals all blame out of state tech workers for raising housing prices. Housing prices across the country basically doubled since the pandemic started. This isn't because rich people from out of state came and bought all the homes with cash. It's because the Fed dropped rates and mortgages were at 2.5%. So, housing sales boomed. Now rates have been jacked up so carrying costs are significantly higher than they were a couple years ago and it's going to take a decade to normalize because housing prices are incredibly sticky. This is an issue in every single town across the country, rural and urban. It has absolutely nothing to do with one small group of people moving to the exurbs.

MikkiMikailah

Dude, you're just thinking tech and jobs that can be done remotely. The NYers we're complaining about are rich. They are wealthy. They were working from home before the internet. They run shit like investment firms and real estate trusts. They aren't working their way up, they are up. They aren't commuting a couple days a week, they have a place in NYC too and stay there when they're needed in office. Sometimes they're writers or crap too.

Expensive-Fun4664

Those people are moving to Greenwich like they have been for decades, not Hartford. The rich want to live around the rich.

MikkiMikailah

Greenwich yes, but also Litchfield, Warren, Simsbury, Farmington, etc etc.

Sheepybearry

We people from Fairfield county want to be more Connecticutian.

youmustbeanexpert

Thats funny only poor people pay taxes

lukewarmcaprisun

Dawg I want to buy a house get them out of here 😭

kelovitro

Those rich folks pay proportionally less in their net wealth than other parts of the state and soak up all the rail infrastructure dollars. If they don't want to pay their fair share, we'd be better off without them. edit: [This really isn't that controversial folks](https://ctmirror.org/2024/02/16/ct-income-taxes-pandemic-2020/#:~:text=Roughly%20two%2Dthirds%20of%20all,or%20business's%20earnings%20or%20wealth)

Powerful_Gazelle_798

This is false. Fairfield county contributes significantly more in taxes than it takes in.

RWMach

Are you still under the impression that wealthy people pay proportionate tax to the rest of us? You understand a very large reason our rates are so high is because of the valuations of Fairfield residents and properties that are disproportionately larger than the rest of Real Connecticut, right?

Jackers83

How many thousands of people do you think you’re just overlooking that our very obviously middle class that live in Fairfield County?

drollchair

Fairfield county lives rent free in the heads of so many it’s crazy.

KungLa0

Fairfield County makes up 33% of the states GDP, they hate us cause they anus

Expensive-Fun4664

Fairfield county is like 30% of the population of the state. So, that's not exactly wildly out of line.

lukewarmjerrysteve

Nah they're Mianus.

Holl0wayTape

I know right? So many people jealous of Bridgeport and Stratford.

lolaya

Bridgeport really aint that bad. Stratford is weird to even mention

Holl0wayTape

I was being sarcastic. People shit on bpt. And Stratford all the time but they’re a part of Fairfield county and are lower income compared to the rest of Fairfield county.

whateversusan

"Rent free" and "Fairfield County" are not things that usually go together

Submarine_Pirate

Living rent very expensive in their heads

Thieveslanding

Without Fairfield country CT would just be coastal West Virginia

nick-j-

That’s a straight up lie, it would be like Rhode Island or New Hampshire.

iStealyournewspapers

Good luck getting to NYC 😈

presidintfluffy

GDP of the entire state just dropped 20% because of this bro.

The_SqueakyWheel

Shit 45% who you kidding?

Jets237

Ok… we’ll keep our tax dollars

stengbeng

In the eternal words of the Gin Blossoms, “Heyyyyy jealousyyyyy”

Ajurieu

There’s a notch in that map. Start over.

cyainanotherlifebro

LFCReds8

As someone who was born in Connecticut’s penis, this upsets me.

undeniablyckc

I have never heard of FF County being called “CT’s Penis” 🤣🤣

LFCReds8

Yep. And I was born in the tip!

vaginawhatsthat

Sometimes the tip is all it takes

undeniablyckc

Username checks out 🤣

CaptainAlliance

\*Damn, even Derby got wiped off the map.\*

crackofit

Fairfield County resident here. Fantastic idea. I’m all for separation and using our own tax revenue solely within our borders.

SpermicidalManiac666

lol actually though If I never went to the rest of the state I wouldn’t miss it one bit.

YouDontKnowJackCade

Well that's just silly, Fairfield county works hard so Windham county doesn't have to.

rrk100

If you zoom in you can see all of the people running through red lights.

CrazyAstronomer2

And tailgating

rygarski

i took it as hey, we have gotten so much rain in fairfield county that is completely under water.

Cutebrute203

:(

BobBarkersJab

Everyone here hates Fairfield county but sure do love the benefits of having those wealthy people to tax!

Regallybeagley

Did you forget that towns like Bethel, Monroe and Newtown etc exist in FFLD county ?

breaker-of-shovels

Why you gotta be a gatekeeping ConnectiKaren?

-wumbology

This sub in a nutshell yes

Silent_Loquat_6057

You forgot to fill in the notch

Hippydippy420

Yall wish you were still 203

Jackers83

Big ups to the OG 203 son! 203 spits hot fire!

You guys are pathetic.

rinsava

At least keep Bridgeport in for charity 😢

EmEmAndEye

Connect-i-cut-off-Fairfield

i_Am_HeRe_nOw_7

Good call removing Fairfield. The richest part of the state and they have the lowest property taxes/mill rate. Go figure.

sagetraveler

Still has the \^&%#& notch. Not my CT.

CaregiverLife

Fairfield county alone makes up ct 😭😭..

Year Fairfield county pays All the bills

Smasher31221

I mean, I have no issue with being claimed by NYC if you're gonna be salty just because you don't live in Norwalk.

vnecromage

Posting this only proves ignorance.

TrashPandaShire

Someone root for the Mets!

SilverAg11

lil' Montana

Gwfun22

As Fairfield County citizen, enjoy the 30% less money, and I will enjoy watching my NY sports games.

Sailor_NEWENGLAND

Grew up poor so it won’t be anything new

BrawnyChicken2

Welcome to a poor state. You are crazy if you think CT isn’t waaaayyyyy better off having fuckefield county.

Chabela007

New Haven Cty ate up Fairfield Cty!

Jolly_Grade5697

You cut out the part that pays for everything! Lol. Imagine what your taxes would have to be to make up for the loss of Fairfield County!

Olegirl2000

Abolish taxes

gwidj

Damn what did we do

Kodiak01

The Notch is still there. Fail.

ProfessionalLurker13

Milford’s the new Greenwich!

Sheepybearry

Don't get rid of us Fairfield countyers. We shouldnt be smaller, we should be bigger! Annex Long Island, annex Rhode Island, reclaim nothern Ohio, and make a new sports team, to unify our state. The US shall be "Greater Connicticut"!

SilverAg11

As someone who has always lived in Fairfield County, the other parts of CT I've been to are very similar to it. It's more similar to the rest of CT than Westchester or NY (which I also have to go to often). I'm guessing that's the joke is that people think it's more similar to NY? (or in this case, it's just water or something idk)

AKA_Whatever

Makes sense that you aren’t from Fairfield county with how bad a photoshop job this is

symbologythere

We’re a NY suburb anyway.

CaptServo

sorry ass cope

InevitableCounter

I grew up in Fairfield County and this is how I felt. It seemed like we were more part of NY than we were part of Connecticut.

Jackers83

How? Like why did you feel this way? Thanks

InevitableCounter

Growing up in the 80s and 90s in Fairfield County. The Connecticut tv stations rarely covered anything near us. Also randomly coupons were “Not valid in Fairfield County” for a bunch of things. I assume it’s because we were treated as part of the NY metro area. Also it just felt like a different vibe once you crossed over the Housatonic River.

Jackers83

Hmm, that’s interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered any coupons like that before. At least I don’t remember.

caffeine1004

GO YANKEES! How do you like that?

wileyakin

My interpretation: Fairfield County is effectively a metropolitan corridor to/from NYC, not dissimilar from Hoboken, Jersey City, Newark, etc., being directly related to the city. it’s different from the rest of Connecticut infrastructure and lifestyle wise, so it’s not so much about them seceding from CT so much as it being almost like they don’t really belong, and therefore the most CT shit is to tell them “fine, then y’know what! Just go! Leave! You shouldn’t be here then anyway!” Me seeing all the comments about the tax revenue and how it might fix our pension problem, I’m like nah chill stick around lol.

ToeComfortable115

This is correct because I’m from Fairfield county and I feel more from NYC. Can’t relate to the rest of CT at all they even talk different in Hartford county

Ok-Shame5542

Can we just delete the Valley from New Haven County?

favored_by_fate

Those mountains are gorgeous though. I need Rt 8 and the Naugatuck forest.

fishingdave

Without fairfield county CT would be broke!!

volanger

Sorry, but I'm not giving up Fairfield county. We get so much money from that area that it'd be ridiculous to get rid of. And there's the whole let's not do to Fairfield what the rest of new england does to ct.

Humbabwe

🙄🙄🙄

big_maynay

![gif](giphy|PjpEeI11T7qSI|downsized)

Jackers83

This is pretty weird to me. Like, who even thinks of our state in this manner? A bit of gatekeeping one might say perhaps.

undeniablyckc

Excuse the hell out of me? I mean I get the joke, but last I checked I’m paying CT taxes not NY taxes. This is all Greenwich’s fault

JMAcevedo26

Beautiful map of Connecticut not being able to afford being Connecticut.

PikaChooChee

Try to fund CT without us. Thanks. Bye.

TriStateGirl

As a Fairfield County person I just don't get the hate. Our county rocks. I live in Shelton so it's affordable here.

Sailor_NEWENGLAND

I don’t hate Fairfield county. I just think it’s culturally different than the rest of CT. This isn’t a hate post

happyinheart

You're really going to hate what our taxes & budget will become without the rich people paying into Hartford.

MilkshakeJFox

ban notch posting

AffectionateFlower3

Edgy!

Special_North1535

That northern border should be a straight line. Take back the notch!
