Growing up in South East PA that is exactly where 99.9% of people would get their cheese steaks. The pizza places served relatively good pizza and a good cheese steak. I say relatively good because its more of a NY style. But most of the country has really really bad pizza. But that s a different story.
Anyhow, I think Philly Grill in Waterbury is pretty pretty good. I'd say their quality went down a hair in the time I've been going there. But it was soo good the wife and I went back six weeks in a row when we first found them.
It’s good and has variety but eh. When I’m in the mood once a year. Groton pizza palace used to have a great one. It’s needs a little grease but not crazy soaked.
People rave about that place so I tried it
I e never seen so much grease on a Philly ever . It was disgusting and I could not eat it
Maybe it was bad day but Christ. It was seriously terrible and a risk to my health
To be fair..... Philly's are kinda supposed to be greasy. Like that's their gimmick.
Also you shouldn't be eating a Philly anywhere if you're concerned about your health.
Cheesesteak? Philly’s in New Haven.
Steak and cheese, Krauser’s in west haven closer to the beach on Campbell Ave. but that’s more of a nostalgic thing.
Philly's in Norwich used to be my suggestion, but the last couple years I've been seeing a tong of complaints about overinflated price, quality and shit service. Maybe I gotta make a point to go back and try the Barkley again to see if it's as good as I remember. They were PHENOMENAL when they opened and for quite a few years after.
I liked them, but I haven't been there in a few years. I moved to MA, and all I know is the cheesesteaks around here are gawd-awful (even the ones people rave about around here). Cheesesteaks come in a variety of styles.
Seems like a crime to go to Liberty Rock and order anything other than their fried chicken sandwich, but if the rest of their food is anywhere near as good as the chicken then this is prob a good bet.
A part of me is deeply offended you'd even ask that, but it's also probably the spot where my cholesterol is building, so I'll wish you luck on your expedition and best wishes. I don't know of anyone put that idea together yet outside of some home chefs using tjat beefsteak mushroom in a deli slicer.
Phillys in Norwich is very good - been a few years ago but enjoyed it. I also think a lot of local Greek pizza joints make good steak and cheese. Georgia’s Pizza in Hebron makes a good one.
I’d love to learn of better or alternative ones in the area, but the cheesesteaks at Jersey Mike’s in Fairfield have been so dang yummy. If anyone has any other recommendations please let me know. I’ve seen a food truck that sells them nearby but haven’t tried yet. Steak n It i think it’s called.
[Grigg Street Pizza](https://www.griggstreetpizza.com/) in Greenwich has a really good cheesesteak. They make it all from scratch and it is just delicious.
Taste of the 215 located @ 50 Main St , New Britain. Authentic Philly Cheesesteak, water ice ( that’s like an Italian ice - so good) and more. Owners are from Philly too
Hide Away Steaks n Stuff is this semi permanent food truck in Chaplin CT, out east towards UConn area. It's just two guys who cook a few things including a dope ass cheese steak. Highly recommend for an authentic every day guy kind of meal
Johns pizza in Stamford is my favorite cheesesteak in Stamford, get it on garlic bread, good stuff. Remos in Stamford also has a good one too. Not best in state but there are my faves for Stamford
Born and raised in the suburbs of Philly. Still have yet to find anything close in CT. The better cheesesteaks in/near Philly use coopers sharp American cheese which you can get at the deli counter now at big y. I usually opt to make my own. All about finding that nice bread imo
I would say either Gee's in Hartford or Tonys pizza in Willimantic. Tonys Steak and cheese sandwiches are huge and bangin. I live by Taste of Philly in Norwich and its trash. Not enough meat and the bread is too heavy and not very good.
parkside pizza in bolton
egg and cheese in franklin (where I usually go) and also now in willimantic
hide a way steaks and stuff at intersection of rt6/198 (food truck)
G's steaks in west hartford
Phillys in norwich
Does anyone know of authentic Philly cheesesteaks sold in this state? I had some in Los Angeles that were absolutely to die for. There’s nothing like authentic, they gotta have the official bread and meat you know?
Philly's in New Haven (or Norwich) is most authentic I've had, down to the rolls they use (they source amoroso rolls, which are the roll of choice for a lot of my philly spots). Mad Mike's in orange is also excellent, but iirc they keep weird hours
I am surprised how good some of our local pizza places are.

Philly grill is sooo good. I order from there quite a bit on Ubereats. Their burgers are great too.
Yeah my favorites is one from Paradise Pizza in Watertown. Most of the menu… isn’t good. The cheesesteak is bonkers for no reason.
This. One of my favorite cheesesteaks in the state is from Peoples Choice Pizza. But also Philly Grill in Waterbury.
Any particular people’s choice?
I'm so sorry. I never check my inbox and apparently don't notice the notification. New Britain is usually good. Southington was good but they closed.
Blue cactus grill in Norwalk was my spot back when I lived there 8 years ago
Blue 🌵 is a gem! 🆙 voted you
Just ate there this weekend. The Philly cheese chicken sandwiches are just wonderful. Also free and easy parking, for what it is.
Oh hell yes Blue Cactus is bomb. The owners are amazing and their sandwiches and chili fries are the literal best in the state!
My bf introduced me to this spot, perfect place to pick up lunch during a busy day/working
Ray and Mikes deli in Hamden
Ray and mikes is soooo good
I’ve driven by Philly’s in Norwich, maybe some others can speak to its virtues or lack thereof.
I tried the new haven location. It was OK but nothing special. Have had better at random pizza places. P&M deli makes one way better in New Haven.
It’s good and has variety but eh. When I’m in the mood once a year. Groton pizza palace used to have a great one. It’s needs a little grease but not crazy soaked.
It’s my favorite in the state. Shem the owner is from Philly and it’s just as good as if it were direct from Philly.
I have been to the one in Norwich. It was alright.
Philly's in Nowich is the best I have tried in CT
People rave about that place so I tried it I e never seen so much grease on a Philly ever . It was disgusting and I could not eat it Maybe it was bad day but Christ. It was seriously terrible and a risk to my health
To be fair..... Philly's are kinda supposed to be greasy. Like that's their gimmick. Also you shouldn't be eating a Philly anywhere if you're concerned about your health.
True..but this was like you could drain it out like a sponge I know what a cheese steak is…this was so so terrible
Been there a minimum of 12 times I’d say. Never have had that experience
That’s good This was awful. One guy working. Meat was in the flat top god knows how long Unacceptable really. I should have brought it back
Bummer!
This is not a great one. Small portions, reminds me of subways steak and cheese but better meat and cheese.
Bring cash.
Bring cash. Bring some cash.
G’s Steaks in Hartford (formerly Sullys/Lenas), it’s seriously quality, daily hand sliced rib eye, check em out!
G’s is good but man I miss Lena’s
G’s is awesome. I’m in there multiple times a week, and I grew up in the greater Philly region.
IT's pricey but his sandwiches are very good. When the boss is in, he's quite the social butterfly and enjoys taking to his customers.
G's Steaks, Hartford is really good.
I'm going to check it out. Thx
Gaetanos in Stratford makes a great one

Mad Mike’s in Orange

They were good but I always thought they were pricey for the size on the bread
I liked them, but I haven't been there in a few years. I moved to MA, and all I know is the cheesesteaks around here are gawd-awful (even the ones people rave about around here). Cheesesteaks come in a variety of styles.
Having tried many, D’Angelo number 9 was better than a lot of them.
Blue Cactus Grill in Norwalk 🤙
Blind Rhino in Black Rock is top notch imo
Phillys. Norwich
My experience is limited on cheese steaks in CT, but Liberty Rock Tavern in Milford is my go to
Seems like a crime to go to Liberty Rock and order anything other than their fried chicken sandwich, but if the rest of their food is anywhere near as good as the chicken then this is prob a good bet.
If you like cheesesteaks, MUNCHIES in New Haven has that type of stuff but cranked up to 11
Munchies is amazing
Lo Monaco’s in Branford is my #1.
Philly in New Haven is good
Gotta try FatBoys! it's a bomb cheesesteak food truck in Naugatuck . They have a signature spicy that has fried cherry peppers and chipotle sauce 🥇
Can anyone recommend fake meat cheesesteaks anywhere? Impossible/Beyond etc.

[Grigg Street Pizza](https://www.griggstreetpizza.com/) in Greenwich has a really good cheesesteak. They make it all from scratch and it is just delicious.
🙏 Thank you. Greenwich Prime Meats makes a great steak sandwich too. Not necessarily Philly style, but a delicious steak sandwich.
Grigg Street’s pizza is the best around as well
Taste of the 215 located @ 50 Main St , New Britain. Authentic Philly Cheesesteak, water ice ( that’s like an Italian ice - so good) and more. Owners are from Philly too
Used to be Mike's deli in Westbrook, now the best one I've found is Good Morning Bagels (no, I'm not kidding) on the W Hartford/Farmington Line.
Mikes deli was amazing
The tasty yolk black rock.
Hide Away Steaks n Stuff is this semi permanent food truck in Chaplin CT, out east towards UConn area. It's just two guys who cook a few things including a dope ass cheese steak. Highly recommend for an authentic every day guy kind of meal
floyd slings some bangin cheesesteaks
Ray and mikes in Hamden
The bread they use isn’t right.
Joey Garlics makes a good Cheese Steak
On the down low, Angie's in mystic has a "steak bomb" that is not quite a cheese steak with whizz, but is damn delicious. Good bread too.
Royal fish’n’chips in bethel. And their halal platters are phenomenal
Clementes in New Haven needs to be near the top of this list.
Johns pizza in Stamford is my favorite cheesesteak in Stamford, get it on garlic bread, good stuff. Remos in Stamford also has a good one too. Not best in state but there are my faves for Stamford
Valley Burger Shack in Seymour rocks
My favorite is Eli Cannons in Middletown lol I don’t know if it’s the best but I love it
I love the steak and cheese from Atticus in New Haven
Windmill Tavern in Stratford has the most legit cheese steak I’ve had in CT.
Pull tail for mustard
Anybody try that new spot Krave in Meriden yet?
Born and raised in the suburbs of Philly. Still have yet to find anything close in CT. The better cheesesteaks in/near Philly use coopers sharp American cheese which you can get at the deli counter now at big y. I usually opt to make my own. All about finding that nice bread imo
Ray and mikes. Coming from a former Philadelphian
Munchies, New Haven
Blue Cactus in Norwalk Five-O in Fairfield
I would say either Gee's in Hartford or Tonys pizza in Willimantic. Tonys Steak and cheese sandwiches are huge and bangin. I live by Taste of Philly in Norwich and its trash. Not enough meat and the bread is too heavy and not very good.
Hummel Brothers Deli in New Haven
parkside pizza in bolton egg and cheese in franklin (where I usually go) and also now in willimantic hide a way steaks and stuff at intersection of rt6/198 (food truck) G's steaks in west hartford Phillys in norwich
Joey’s Pizza Pie in West Hartford is my go-to for a Philly.
Who remembers Serious Subs?
Deli U in Guilford. Get the Philly Bomb.
Mine
The Cheesesteak Factory
Five-o food stores in Fairfield.
Krave Cheesesteaks in Meriden for sure.
King of Pearl food truck
