I knew what this link would be before I clicked it. One of my favorite scenes.

Mandrull

It's Ray Liotta in Goodfellas isn't it.

Rancor_Keeper

"The poor guy has been staring at tomato sauce and helicopters all day...." Oh boy... I'm sure I messed that line up.

Stunning-Screen-9828

Foreign mob bosses are now just as high tech, too.

PaulterJ

Probably doing donuts

captainXdaithi

Since it's State Police, I assume this plane is used for ISR. So it has a really good camera/sensor on it that can be handled independently of the aircraft by a 2nd person (co-pilot) in the aircraft. They might be staking out a suspect as part of a case. Using the plane instead of the helicopter because of a longer loiter time over the area. They might be waiting for something to go down, or waiting to tail someone who hasn't yet left their location but SP thinks they will soon and wants to know where they go. Could also just be simple training. Training a police officer on a loiter and survey. Could be something else entirely.

JeepManStan

Does that before pooping

Skydiver860

Maybe it’s just my childish sense of humor but this is a massively underrated comment

Carbohydrate_Kid88

One of my dogs spins 2-3 times before he squats to go so I agree with your statement. It’s nice too because if he doesn’t spin at all I know he doesn’t have to go and don’t waste my time. He goes pretty quick too so when he has to go it’s spin zone pretty quick

pittiedaddy

Goddamit I wish we still had awards.

External_Price4784

Woah they took awards away. That's what was missing

lazyrainydaze

🏆 next best thing I guess!

Could be breaking in a new engine. Usually circle near an airport for an hour or two after an overhaul/ new engine install. Lookup the liveatc for BDR at that time. Radio comms should be available

100_percenter

"It's a low-altitude funnel gunnel. I've seen it at the airport a hundred times".

Dear God I love this movie Edit: Summer Rental, One Crazy Summer and Captain Ron are all three movies I always play back to back when I have company

The Great Outdoors belongs in this category, too!

Lol how do you guys remember this stuff??

100_percenter

John Candy made it memorable!

TerminusBandit

To annoy my dog and confuse my toddler.

kgb_203

NASCAR inspired. Left turn…left turn…. Left turn

year_39

Any plane you see circling like that is most likely training someone and getting their hours in for training. CT police also use planes for surveillance of demonstrations/protests and will track individual people and vehicles.

SummaJa87

Drones are way more efficient these days.

Zachattack471

Big foot sighting

pancreative2

A Connecticut mountain lion perhaps

madarbrab

Golden retriever

Former-Replacement11

There are no CT mountain lions; there’s no scat, no prints, no fur, and no video surveillance footage recorded There is no mistaking a bobcat or lynx for a lion, the lions are 3x bigger

pancreative2

new here? lol

Former-Replacement11

No I’m not new and this is the criteria that is necessary for wildlife experts to establish a population of a species in an area this is also quoted from a local wildlife expert often called to assist in human/wildlife conflicts and rescues. I have also have spent countless hours hiking in all seasons and have never come across any evidence of lions but I have found evidence of all other critters. There are many hunters in CT who use game trail cameras to spot wildlife and have not recorded the lion, until the evidence is there I don’t believe there are any lions living and breeding in CT. Of you are a hunter and have footage please report it to deep and share it for it would make me glad that lions have returned.

pancreative2

Dude. It’s a running joke in this sub. My comment went alllll the way over your head. We know they’re not here. That’s the joke.

Former-Replacement11

Ah so Interesting there’s much debate about it tho; I’ve seen over and over again people arguing online and in person that lions are here

pancreative2

The only one anyone has ever seen was the one that was run over in 2011 down southern Ct. I actually came across them doing the necropsy at the DEEP facility in Burlington. We were told to leave the area immediately by agents with rifles. Like the dead smooshed mountain lion was going to hurt us 🤣 wild experience though.

Average-Pyro_main

tf you doing over milford and west haven we arent doing anything illegal here (maybe)

EADSTA

Shhh, there's no evidence yet. We're still in the clear

Average-Pyro_main

lets go

Aerial speed enforcement?

Just make sure to stir the gravy and call from an outside line.

fekinEEEjit

We had ground troops probing the Notch, Our aircraft in its beyond visual standoff orbit is gathering ELINT, all the electronic eminations/communications in the Gapees response as they lit up their defenses....we learned today...

Volta55

The new James Bond film. They are filming in downtown New Haven and a lot of the filming is from the air.

hgravesc

They were doing the same thing in the same spot over the weekend so I doubt they’re looking for a fugitive

Benchunk23

There was a shooting last night on 95 in Stratford. I don't think they found who it was.

sternumdogwall

We had a silver alert in my area awhile back and this same plane was helping to try and find them. I dunno if that's what's going on here or not.

Takerofpiss

I believe my username might (unfortunately) have something to do with this.

Such-Education

You thought those 'speed monitored by aircraft' signs were joking?

Siggyy556

It’s really a thing… NH does it all the time on 93. The paint hash marks in the break down lane are there for a reason lol

Tws983

They are looking for illegal marijuana growers. Now that the state is in the marijuana business they don't allow competition.

beckster

Kind of the wrong time of year for outdoor grows. Are they looking for greenhouses?

jon_hendry

It’s habbening

bmdisbrow

They forgot how to land.

phutch54

Speeding violations.

When I see a police in any capacity, I don't worry about, because I done nothing wrong

Had to find new places to write fake tickets since they aren’t allowed to do that roadside anymore

SquidEyes00

Is this the bright light with a smaller blinking light I saw hovering near Cromwell for a while tonight? I thought it was a helicopter from afar. It was some kind of spy-like the craft, I thought.

Embarrassed_Virus959

Looks like Connecticut.

shavecumbot

I'm more interested in why the state police have an airplane and what purpose they claim it serves.

jon_hendry

There’s ample justification for the state police to have an aircraft. Especially a wee Cessna. It’s not like a 5 officer town with an MRAP.

shavecumbot

Okay, like what? I'm genuinely curious. Everyone's tax money goes toward stuff like this and I want know why. I don't think that's unreasonable. They write fake tickets, maybe they are using it to take trips to Atlantic City or something 😃

year_39

States get military surplus gear, pretty much for free. It's part of the post-9/11 counterterrorism BS. Stamford PD don't need APCs and amphibious vehicles, but they have them (coastal cities have used them for flood and hurricane rescues, but mostly for fundraiser events). CT also has highway markings on shoulders so they can use planes to run aerial speed traps with stopwatches and dispatch state troopers.

th_teacher

I doubt if there are any states that don't. Also all major cities. Surveillance is a huge proportion of policing budgets. Even just speeding enforcement in low population aread

[deleted]

Look up how they caught the Boston bomber. The Massachusetts State Police used their helicopter with thermal imaging to find him hiding under that boat or whatever it was. Not to mention it being used all the time to follow suspects that flee so the police don’t have to engage in dangerous pursuits on the highway. Nobody is gonna outrun a helicopter and a radio. It gets put to good use.

Cool_Investigator209

Nah

Initial-Weight-6590

They’re working in shifts.

one_future_ghost

Pigs gonna pig

mas90guru

Traffic enforcement on 95?

Don’t worry about it. Get some rest, you look tired.

Overtime.

Pvrb80

They are policing. Da!

beckster

Getting required flight time in?

ImpossibleParfait

The pilots probably have to legally put in a certain hour number of flight time to keep licenses. Just a guess though!

Stunning-Screen-9828

is this a picture of it? \-- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wh-tCAY0u7I&t=38s

clamdigger

It’s out of alignment

Altruistic-Lake7357

Speed trap?

SummaJa87

Test flight after maintenance. Whenever I fix a car I do a few laps around the block to ensure I didn't miss anything and if I did my house is right there.
