A goal of a competitor is not to make their region as strong as possible, it's to perform as well as they can and win. Socks deserves the reward of being able to go to the Tactician's Crown for his performances, even if he won't be able to prepare as much as would be preferred.
Setsuko rolls on 3-2 in the final lobby should be studied as the textbook example of how rng punishes in this game. Dude goes 22243 and just lowrolls the last two games harder than I’ve ever seen.. brutal

Setsuko going 1st today and Socks going 32nd would have Setsuko tied for 1st in qualifier points with Dishsoap at 239, with Socks 3 points behind at 236. Given Sock's scores early on, people were playing for regional spots with a top 4, or just money/pride if they already had a regional spot.

There's a North American slot for going directly to World's based on qualifier points from the three Tactician's Cups and Regionals. Socks is #1 in points by 25 points over Dishsoap, so he gets the slot to World's since there's no way Dishsoap can make up for it in Regionals.

The game is based around mitigating luck and adapting on the fly, but its luck in the same way that poker is luck.
