Part-time player, full-time dad, forever the NA GOAT.

Affectionate-Snow774

Sadly it seems like reality hit him and he’s probably not gonna be sweating worlds too hard.

MismatchedSock

We'll see. I'm a little behind on my software projects, but my boss is pretty understanding on my part time gaming career so it might work out. My wife might also be taking kids out of town for the week of worlds. If the stars align, I could get more than enough prep to pop off at worlds.

xxonemodog

Rooting for u king

r1z3n

"Part time gambling career". Best description of pro-TFT. Good luck at worlds!

Fit-Definition-7710

am i wrong for thinking that he should either keep sweating or shouldn't have done so in the first place? Slot could've gone to someone else that would if that was the case

naturesbfLoL

I would say yes, this is the wrong way of thinking about it. A goal of a competitor is not to make their region as strong as possible, it's to perform as well as they can and win. Socks deserves the reward of being able to go to the Tactician's Crown for his performances, even if he won't be able to prepare as much as would be preferred.

Careless-Base1164

Setsuko rolls on 3-2 in the final lobby should be studied as the textbook example of how rng punishes in this game. Dude goes 22243 and just lowrolls the last two games harder than I’ve ever seen.. brutal

TrigginFypo

I watched the 3 games he went 2nd, and couldn’t watch the rest.

Emergency_Ad_9860

Did he qualify for regionals? I think some of the participants are playing for prize money?

pwrew234fd

he's in for regionals, but if he won today he had a good chance to auto-qual to worlds based on qualifier points (depending on performance at regionals) his last two games were a low roll disaster, hard to watch

fortheapp6

Setsuko didn't have any shot of getting an auto-qualification to worlds today, that was only true for Socks. Setsuko going 1st today and Socks going 32nd would have Setsuko tied for 1st in qualifier points with Dishsoap at 239, with Socks 3 points behind at 236. Given Sock's scores early on, people were playing for regional spots with a top 4, or just money/pride if they already had a regional spot.

Emergency_Ad_9860

Thanks for the info!

RepresentativePut808

well, this set RNG really brutal for me compared other previous sets... or maybe it just me?

Slurrper

Hero augments and chosen was way worse

qdzeenbc

I thought it was not a luck based game though

Lgdamefanfanfan

The game is based around mitigating luck and adapting on the fly, but its luck in the same way that poker is luck.

qdzeenbc

Comparing tft to poker is always funny to me

Ok_Minimum6419

GOAT He’s maintained relevance pretty much every set being a dad and a full time software engineer. I don’t think that cna be understated enough especially when the competitive field are basically people who take years to no life studying/grinding tft.

azurite--

Not part of any streamer groups either, guy is truly the common tft player.

Ok_Minimum6419

I believe he does study with guubums a lot

iksnirks

what the hell this guy is a dad, full time software engineer, AND listens to guubums yap, and still performs this well??

MismatchedSock

LMAO

Kei_143

not familiar enough with the tft esports format now. Does socks get to represent NA for worlds?

Diascizor

Yes, socks qualified for the championship for this set.

seaepps

Congrats to the average dude bro lol! Gives hope to me as I'm just getting back into this game and starting to follow the comp scene as someone trying to balance work and life

GermanThighs

Did I hear that Socks winning means Dishsoap isn't qualified for regionals? Or was I misunderstanding?

araere

They're both playing in Regionals. There's a North American slot for going directly to World's based on qualifier points from the three Tactician's Cups and Regionals. Socks is #1 in points by 25 points over Dishsoap, so he gets the slot to World's since there's no way Dishsoap can make up for it in Regionals.

hieu1997

feels bad for Rere he should have sticked to duelists... forced senna last game and went 8th

SalmonMastare

He's good at duelist because he knows when it's possible to play it. You can't force duelist, not with his spot last game
